Left out part about company employing felons. Can anybody verify this one for me. .
.
"Three of the largest voting machine vendors in the United States have convicted criminals in high positions, according to Mercuri. "Sequoia, ES&S, and Shoup all have top people that been convicted for bribery of election officials or insider trading," Mercuri told AFP, adding, "How can it not be a criminal enterprise?" From this story.
I've looked around for the original interview, but was unable to find it. Jeff Rense runs a cool site, but he publishes everything, so it's definitely Caveat Lector in those waters.
Anybody?

Physical Indicia Don't Map 1-to-1 With Fraud
Just what we need: more reasons to suspect people, detain them, interrogate them, and to finally fine and prosecute them.
I know of a friend who was raided by a police team in Allentown PA on the basis of the smell of cat piss and a chronically overzealous prosecutor. It happens, but it never should.
How much longer are we going to tolerate the use of any old physical indicator to assault the common citizen? How many more grandmothers have to be jacked up at an airport before people understand that that has nothing to do with finding that stolen Angolan 727 (which could be winging its way towards an American embassy as we speak)? What will "seat squirm" indicate to us, when all you can do is look at the person and then proceed to bother them with accusatory questions based upon an entirely false confidence in technology?
The next thing that the FBI can come up with is a magic marker (just like finding a bad $20 bill) that you swipe across a person's skin; if the wrong color comes up, he's a fscking terrorist! -
Re:Matrix Gets Egyptian Ban For Explicit Religion
I'm suppose to accept this argument from you right ?
Have you ever met an Egyptian person before? ...ever been in Egypt before? We are very modern technically and the Egyptian community tends to be liberal, we have satellites, the Internet, heck even the DSL adaptation rate is higher in Egypt than the US, I'm an Egyptian engineer, I speak your language do you speak mine? Nope..
I read your media do you read mine ? hell no...
I know and understand your community, values and culture very well what about you ? .. maybe in another life time
So please spare us your insightful farts made from the comfort of your home
Egypt gets more aid from the US than Israel does.
I don't know how did you pull that one outta of your ass are you a relative of the goatse guy ?...here wipe it out with this web page.
For all these benefits Israel provides, it receives $2.2 billion dollars in financial aid each year, according to the U.S. Department of State Affairs. The next highest receiver of financial aid is Egypt . -
The 14 Defining Characteristics Of Fascism
Number 2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights - Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.
Number 12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

Re:A related thought re:9/11
What proof do you have that the UAL 93 passengers overpowered their hijackers? The only people who have heard the cockpit voice recorders are federal employees, who needed clearances to work on the project, and family members. I don't trust either group: the first has something to hide, and the other wants their loved ones to be remembered as heroes.
Since 9/11 I've always thought UAL 93 was shot down by the military. There has never been publically available primary source material to prove it wasn't. -
The 14 Defining Characteristics Of FascismFree Inquiry published a list of the the 14 defining characteristics of fascism a few months ago. In case the site gets slashdotted, a quick summary is:
- Powerful and continuing nationalism. Hitler had the Nuremberg Rallies, we will have the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York City just blocks from "ground zero," and just 10 days before the third anniversity. This is the latest nominating convention in history. (Hopefully it will not also be the "last" one.)
- Distain for the recognition of human rights. Forget Guatmo, look at who's on the "no fly" list. When was the last time you heard of a Quaker activist committing violent acts?
- Identication of enemies/scapegoats as a unifying cause. All Muslims are terrorists. All "liberals" and "moderates" support terrorism.
- Supremacy of the military. This is a weird split - this administration has treated soldiers, ex-soldiers, and their families contemptously. But at the same time, there's no question that these are rich years to be a preferred military contractor.
- Rampant sexism. "Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution." No comment necessary.
- Controlled mass media. "Sometimes directly controlled by the government, sometimes indirectly controlled by government media, sympathetic media and executives." FCC decision last week, Fox News. No comment necessary.
- Obsession with national security. Post 9/11, a lot of this is justified. But the actions don't match the words - Bush talks national security, but has repeatedly ignored pressing matters to focus on things of relatively little importance. The Afghanistan countryside is important. North Korea, with an active nuclear program and proven missiles and located so close to the industrial centers of South Korea and Japan (and potentially able to reach the US within a few years) is important. Iraq, as the professional intelligence corp knew and events have proven, was not.
- Religion and government are intertwined. "Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders." Besides the language, Bush always drops into a "Hellfire sermon" cadence when he's trying to emphasize a point.
- Corporate power is protected. No comment necessary.
- Labor power is suppressed. No comment necessary.
- Distain for intellectuals and the arts. Besides the historic contempt for "liberal professors" and any artist willing to speak her mind (Dixie Chicks), I see a lot of anti-intellectualism in anti-tech attitudes. Are so many jobs going overseas (or to H1B workers) here because of economics alone, or because we tend to be highly curious and open to discussing ideas?
- Obsession with Crime and Punishment. Ashcroft. No other comment necessary.
- Rampant cronyism and corruption. Halliburton and Vice President Cheney. Michael Powell (FCC) and Colin Powell (Sec. of State). The Bush crowd - a group with a history that makes the Kennedys look like choir boys (if you can find any media gutsy enough to cover the story).
- Fradulent elections. Florida - governored by the brother of one of the candidates (see above). The strange obsession with replacing paper ballots with unauditable electronic voting machines. The connection between those manufacturers and key Republican backers... and the Russian Mafia.
If you accept the premise of the article, I don't think there's any doubt that we're close to fascism today. It's still early and we could reverse course in less than 18 months. But I think there's little doubt that history will observe that the US came close to losing WW-II 60 years after the fact.
I'm also sure that many of these people have no idea that they're fascist. Hitler was not Satan incarnate, Nazi Germany did not come into existence overnight, and we must always be on guard against history repeating.
As for the OP's uninformed comments, the proper description for the countries he described as "socialist" is "authoritarian" -- and there's no doubt that this country is shifting towards authoritarism in addition to fascism.

Hello !
I am for the arab world, whatever happend on 911 was certainly not the official story, now I'm not saying that Dubya made it happen he is simply too stupid for that, but there is something FISHY about it, click over and read:

2.The Israeli "arts" students cheering and photographing the collapse of the WTC?
3.The WTC buildings were designed to withstand a jet impact

Re:scenario 3Sorry for taking so long to reply - had other things to do.
I found three links in a row on the Rense website referring to the possibility of SARS being a man-made bioweapon. A lot of the information from the three links is the same, but each does contain additional information.
one
two
three
I don't have time to research all of the claims made in those links, but some things did stick out to me:
They keep quoting Nikolai Filatov as saying he thinks the virus is man-made because "there is no vaccine for this virus, its make-up is unclear, it has not been very widespread and the population is not immune to it." with no further explanation. That quote raises a few points for me.
- Why does the lack of a vaccine indicate it is man-made? Before we (humans) created the first vaccine, there were no vaccines at all - I certainly don't think that implies all viruses that existed before that point in time were man-made.
- How does an "unclear makeup" indicate it is man-made? If the virus contains DNA that isn't similar to anything else ever sequenced (if that is what is meant), I don't see how that would indicate it necessarily being man-made (I'm not saying it isn't possible, just that I don't see how it is proof).
- I'm also not clear how the population not being immune to it indicates it is man-made. Unfortunately, I'm not an epidemiologist (IANAE?), so it is hard for me to comment on this.
I also would like more information about why the virus being a supposed "cocktail of measles and mumps" could never occur in nature. Again, I'm not saying what he says isn't possible, I just what to know on what basis this claim is made.
I'm not saying that what they are claiming isn't true. I don't know. I do know that if I was hearing a lot of other scientists agreeing with this, I would probably pay a lot more attention to it. It would be nice to have a rebuttal (or confirmation) from a respected virologist, instead of just information provided by a site (rense.com) that also includes stories about Ernst Zundel (holocaust denier) and UFOs. - Why does the lack of a vaccine indicate it is man-made? Re:Responsibility
If I had an agenda, I would have gone with the higher estimate: 500,000
I guess revisionist history really depends on who you are inclined to believe. When I was looking for a number, I picked one from a site that seemed halfway credible. I saw one sight where the guy said the entire holocaust was two Jewish guys and a Schnauzer killed in a car accident and the bombing of Dresden was a myth propogated by the Communists. You gotta go with something!

manhattan institute= nazis
The manhattan institute is a front organization, one of many, and think tank for the globalists, those new world order advocates who want a global two class society, masters and serfs. I term them as being technofuedalists. You can use google to find out more about them, here is one url with some background as to the founding of the place, who's involved with them, and some of their other beliefs. There are many more, this one has some decent background though. More or less they engage in sophisticated psyops to promote their agendas of global governance and dominance.
Manhattan Institute think tank background, it's not pretty
As to "government not using technology" in an illegal manner, gimme a break, they do it constantly, daily, here's an interesting breaking story today:
Government being forced to come clean on TWA 800 attack, it was NOT an accident
If anyone cares to check out the elaborate misues of federal police agencies, judges, investigators, intelligence agencies with witness intimidation, false arrest, coercion, then using completely falsified "science" to "prove" on television what they said happened to the people on flight TWA 800 . Initially government with all sorts of junk voodoo science "proved" that twa 800 had a center fuel tank explosion then they at first claimed that it automagically lost it's forward part of the fuselage then climbed 3000 feet, and etc, lie, etc. Elaborate staged dog and pony show. Well, the court cases now are going forward, government is basically pleading nolo to massive fraud and deceit and covering up a delibarate attack on the plane. The full details aren't in yet, but they almost got away with it, even to the point of throwing journalists in jail over it.
Lying scumbags. Same as they are elaborately lying over the 9-11 attacks.
There's a CONSTANT assault on freedoms and the truth out there, it's being done by these globalists and their minion government drones and places like these "think tanks". Wheels within wheels. It's not a conspiracy "theory" once it's proven to exist, after that, it's a matter of finding out how extensive it is, and working to counteract what they do, even as simple a thing as like me dropping this post here. These globalists are some dangerous and foul people. Heinous really. A good rule of thumb is to assume the exact opposite of what this person at the manhattan institute says. Governments-the US or anyone's - will use ALL technology they can get their hands on to collect files and data on everything they can, to frame people, to cover up crimes they have committed, to commit any other crimes they feel like, to manipulate people and events, etc, right up to globally in scale. And another good rule of thumb is to just acknowledge that "laws" only apply to the serfs, the master race globalists have little of any laws that apply to them, that's how they think and operate. They are neoroyalty, technofuedalists. They have been, are, and will contintue to, accumulate as much data on "you" as they can get, to be used for their purposes of command and control. And yes, you should be very afraid of what they will do with that data.

Please, help STOP the WAR :(
War is not a game. Bush and Saddam are happyly sitting in their sofa watching TV, while Civilians keep dying

Soldiers and civillians suffer

And children are the most affected.

USAF is #1!Wouldn't the firebombing of Dresen be the largest single loss of life?
"The death toll was staggering. The full extent of the Dresden Holocaust can be more readily grasped if one considers that well over 250,000 -- possibly as many as a half a million -- persons died within a 14-hour period"
And technically, it isn't terrorism when the government does it. Right?

Re:Prediction
The Eric Schlosser interview you're talking about is probably the one in the Dec 2000 Atlantic Unbound: Unhappy Meals.
There's also an article by Schlosser entitled "Why McDonald's Fries Taste So Good" was published in the Jan 2001 issue of the Atlantic Monthly that goes into some depth on the whole 'taste' industry. It's no longer online at theatlantic.com for some reason, but a Google search for the title will turn it up at all kinds of places (like here for example).
Definitely a fascinating and eye opening read.

Interesting choice in misleading links.
The Amnesty "illegally imprisoned" link reguards a pare-military group as common burgulars, the Rense.com link invents another class. Both have been addressed by the US courts and neither is addressed in Kevin Poulsen's article.
All that aside, hell no a non-violent criminal should not be locked up. Some other punishment is much more appropriate, like restitution of *real* losses (no making the defendant buy a new security team) and community service, etc.
Jail *should* be for the people that are a physical threat to society, not a theoretical or financial one.
Before the thread runs off the topic, see my website for my position on the death penalty before assigning one to me. -
Re:what the hell's the big deal? The big deal is the use of multiple images and intelligent image processing (as distinct from the image processing that's favoured by the kind of people who see alien choirs on roofs and "rods" all over the place...) to turn a sequence of low-res, low-dynamic-range images into a quite spectacular final image, which simply couldn't have been captured with any single-exposure imaging system connected to the same optics, or even to a much more expensive telescope.
People who find this subject intriguing should check out AstroStack.

- crimp on the top

Good point, but...
I've just spent 3 years with Auburn University designing an experiment for the ISS which could allow certain heavy industries to cut losses from $10 billion PER YEAR to less than $5 billion per year
Don't account your chickens before they hatch. `Could save' and `does save' are not synonymous.
That said, I believe that Fred could have got this far for a small fraction of the cost, but even at $40G is almost certainly worthwhile. If you could account for the value of all of the tech spinoffs, they alone would probably pay for it.
The other question is: would we have been better of spending a trillion (ie 25x as much) and whacking together an L5 colony? Certainly, the $200G earmarked for razing Iraq after the S&M experts have finished playing with it would be better directed towards such an enterprise. There are much cheaper, more permanent and more effective ways of defanging Iraq, none of them involving explosives, poisons or bioweapons. -
Oh, here's the link for the SP fiber project

Gotta love google.
It's strange that they won't offer cable internet connections in many rural towns, but the government would want to run a fiber line to the south pole. -

NSA did NOTHING pre-911!
As if it's not on the tip of everyone's tongue, we all know one thing: the 9/11 attacks, like every war catalyst for the past century, were allowed to happen.
9/11 is in the same category as the sinking of the Maine, the Lusitania, Pearl Harbor, and the Gulf of Tonkin: the government either conspired to create or simply let happen the catastrophe to spur the public into war.
Why? Because America needs war to sustain its multinational corporations, and the Bush administration has an agenda of tyranny. We are trying to secure the next 50 years of energy through securing the middle east and central asia with dictators who represent our corporate interests, and we're losing our rights every day to Bush's schemes.
The NSA may have changed their ways, but the senior leadership obviously knew of the plot and let it happen -- the workers there were simply blindfolded to what was truly going on. The entire pdf file is full of lies, deceit, and spin to cover up what really went on at the NSA.
There are a myriad of questions that have been raised (see links below), and we may never know the answers to them.

What!? Some people are not entirely miserable?!Well, who fell asleep at that switch! We should ship him/her to the South to be put down like the dogs they are! (And make up for all the lost 'misery revenue').
Seriously. . . I've read today more childish arguments from people who are basically saying, "Well, if I have to pay tax, then so should everybody!" --Which stems in part from the barely legitimate fear of losing the precarious toe-hold on their own income through a Bricks & Mortar business, which won't happen unless they are nincompoops who don't know how to run a business in the first place, (Why not set up your own internet order department and get one of your clerks to manage it? DUH!), and from a rabid sense of unfairness which has precisely nothing to do with what is good for the nation and everything about, "MOMMM! BILLY GOT MORE ICE CREAM THAN ME!!!"
As for more new & wonderful taxes. . .
Bullshit. Greed and nothing else. For one thing, the economy is mostly a make-believe game anyway, and for another, if you want to live in the 'good little consumer' head-space and play the make-believe 3rd edition rules to the letter, well then if the government would just, say, tax Microsoft properly, punish corporate criminals, (like Bush), and stop plans to drop a billion dollars worth of bombs on Iraq every week, then MAYBE we could dispense with all this other nonsense.
Internet Tax? Fuck off. When the net is taxed, it'll also be so tightly controled that a pipsqueek like me won't be able to speak his mind. And wouldn't that just make for a bad day?

autism and vaccinations--if you are really interested in this subject, here's a link to a listing of links about childhood vaccinations and some side effects. There's a TON of good information that definetly points to autism increases being caused by government mandated vaccinations. Everything from mercury contamination to even worse stuff.
A paste from that page, there's more news articles grouped there, well worth the loook before you (anyone you) dismiss it out of hand. There's billions of dollarts at stake, maybe trillions if you count the lawsuit potential. There's been cases so blatant-kid gets shot, gets immediately sick, doesn't recover- that it can't be dismissed out of hand. the newspaper article is repeating the mantra of mega pharmco profits="good", nothing to see here move along now. Phooie. This info is being ignored in favor of "profits". And before anyone wants to debate vaccinations good/bad, read the links first, there's hour's worth.

However, this will only matter for a very small amount of time, since South Africa will most likely expel/persecute its whites within a decade much like Zimbabwe is doing now. Whites make up 97% of all internet users in the country, and they're being murdered or fleeing murder by the thousands.
However, for the ones who stay, the internet will be the only gateway to the outside world, as they will be secured away in fortresses from the murdering masses. This fine might be somehow mutated to persecute them from inside their houses by the racist ruling ANC.
In 2050, it will happen to America when whites become a minority here, along with Britain and France in 2060.

Real Security
I can't believe that Secret Service agents are being used for this when our southern border is being completely overrun!
This is total government waste, and it makes me sick. The government's job is to protect our borders, and the corporations should be in charge of securing their own networks and hiring their own wardrivers, not making joe taxpayer foot the bill. -
Re:My plan...Maybe as a "privacy advocate" you find the idea of someone knowing your salary frightening, but I sure don't. If you ask me, I'll tell you. Maybe you don't want anyone to know how much you weigh or what your favorite softdrink is. I really don't care who knows this.
Do you mind if people know the general tone of your Slashdot posts? Or what you eat for dinner? Or what sort of news articles you read?
How do you feel about someone compiling all of that data, and using it to create a psychological profile? How about if they sell that profile to employers, land lords, insurance companies, lawyers, law enforcement, or anyone else who wants to make a decision about you?

Re:Typical Liberal TacticsSavage is an embarrassment to conservatism.
He's neoconservative Israel-firster whose real name is Michael Weiner, which explains a great deal.
Anyone who thinks most "right-wing" talk radio is "alternative" is seriously deluded. It's all party-line for the neocons. About the only show I'll listen to on my AM dial is Jeff Rense...what few other shows are worthwhile are scattered among shortwave and Internet streaming audio.
I'm a paleo-libertarian, yet I still enjoy listening to Pacifica now and then...how's that for diversity?

You're probably thinking of the time machine, not the scramjet. Don't worry, though. I get the two confused all the time.

How about...
I saw that site about a month back, and while I'd never fork over the dough to buy one of the guy's sabers, it'd be damn cool to have one of them.
But I agree that they need to be made functional. Maybe, for the avid fans who might be willing to spend a little more, the sabers could be made out of that nifty new transparent aluminum? -
Roman Catholics
In the beginning of this year I read that the chief astronomer of the Vatican's Observatory said, that it would be stupid to say, that there is no alien life.
Doing a Google-search on this, I found this.
My personal point of view as a Roman Catholic: We do not know whether there is extraterrestrial life, and we need neither the existence nor the absence of it for our believe system, so we should leave it open. Especially this keeps us away from those ugly things that happened to Bruno and Galilei. But we admitted (although 500 years to late) that they were right.

Haplogroup XMilwaukee Journal Sentinel on March 4, 2002 published a story titled Wisconsin Dig Points To Europe As Origin Of First Americans saying:
The first of the Europe-to-North America treks probably took place at the height of the last Ice Age more than 18,000 years ago, said Dennis Stanford, curator of archaeology at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History, and Milwaukee native Bruce Bradley, an independent archaeological consultant and research associate of the Carnegie Museum.
...
Stanford and Bradley also point to recent DNA analysis involving a particular genetic marker known as haplogroup X. The marker is found in a minority of American Indians, including some in the Great Lakes region, and Europeans, but is not found in Asians, suggesting an ancestral link between Europe and North America. -
