Not as bad as Time Cube

Has anyone written a program to identify egomaniac crackpots solely by the linguistic patterns they use? Read this post, read Timecube, and go dig up your favorite physics crackpot. There is something distinctive about the word usage and arrangement (beyond a Fondness for Capitalizing Words to make them seem More Important).

I would put it to anyone to find more than 5 people in the entire world that *seriously* believe any of those theories, and not merely claim to as a response to somehow satirize or ridicule another person or group of people's sincere beliefs.

Don't be so hasty, you can make a very rational and scientific sounding case for "Intelligent Falling" such as Uncaused Force. It sounds every bit serious and believable as any Intelligent Design piece, and I'm sure you could find plenty of people in the US who, presented with the article, would more than happily sign on for Uncaused Force and the belief that gravity is a lie.

Equally you could look at something like Time Cube which looks like a load of crap, but then there are people like this guy who seriously believe it, and try to make arguments as to why -1 * -1 = 1 is stupid and evil.

Here's what I liked to ask the Intelligent Designer "theorists": would it be OK to teach the kids that we are all part of The Matrix? And would it be OK to teach Matrix Theory instead of Intelligent Designer Theory?

Logic has no effect on ID'ers. So when they say that God did it, just turn around and say "No, you're wrong, it's the Matrix. (Version 6, according to the movies)". Then, when they start to dispute the theory, just counter with whatever response they would give to the question.

The big problem is the origin of those studies. The second book I mentioned in my previous post does a great job of showing the lengths industries will go through to essentially purchase study results that are favorable to them. Flat-out payoffs, shoddy statistics, very carefully selecting samples that don't exhibit undesired results... it's all an incredible scam.

The rest of us are left with the impression that there is some kind of scientifically legitimate disagreement. There's a difference between valid science and junk science, certainly, but a lot of the junk seems to come from corporate sponsors with a lot of money to lose.

Of course, there's always these guys...

How are they doing this you ask? Most people learn about alternate operating systems through sites such as this one, where Lunatix users spread disinformation. As a result, their expectations are boosted to delusional levels (Linux will make me a kewl leet dood! All my computer problems will be solved! I'll be able to have sex with anyone I want, every night!) instead of more realistic ones. (Half of my hardware will not work. The software will be incomprehensible. I'll probably end up back on Windows.) As a result, when these people finally try Linux, their expectations will be painfully shattered instead of barely met. They will rightly feel that they have been lied to and cheated. Therefore a deep-seeded hatred will develop against Linux and anyone that has anything to do with it. The Linux users' very idiocy is sucking the life out of Linux and other failed but noble projects like it.

The most efficient method for exposing these people for the total nut jobs that they are is trolling. When these people sincerely state that "installing Linux needs a 5-year plan where you eat steak, like in Soviet Russia" or "Linux is more secure cuz of its 'design'" or "what do you mean Linux is no good for a Fortune 500 company, it runs fine in my basement" it immediately creates no doubt as to their level of their intelligence. Providing enough rope to hang themselves with is the most effective way of flushing them out.

This is why I propose that a new cabinet under the Department of Homeland Security be created. This cabinet will be called the Troll Taskforce and its primary motto will be "Trolling for Truth!" I nominate the distinguished Rep. Senator Bill Gates (Redmond) to head up this cabinet. His exceptional leadership skills have been more than proven.

Agreed. Anyone remember Dr. Timecube (Gene Ray)? His theory is that:
(a) he is the wisest man in the world
(b) anyone who doesn't believe him is evil (belief would require understanding, which in and of itself is a challenging goal... try reading his website sometime http://www.timecube.com/)
(c) logical inconsistenscies are perfectly acceptable, so long as he is the proponent (after all, he _is_ the wisest man in the world).

If you want to swallow mathematically unjustified drivel, I highly reccomend Gene Ray and Time Cube. I think Mr. Ray is at the pinnacle of meaningless drivel, and your paltry example doesn't even come close.

Alternatively you could actually do the math - Here's a nice textbook you can start with, or just search Amazon for "differential geometry".

Until the conspiracy between the US gov't and other world powers that prevents usage of zero point energy to give unlimited free energy for things like charging my cell phone, I won't be happy.
