Re:...and suddenly
Well, there is a before picture, and a image search for "martha stewart jail cell" brings up some amusing photo shops.

So I guess ...
.... this guy is going to have to find work in the private sector. Looks like management material to me. -
1st step
First things first. I propose that the U.S. government tap the creative forces of the 4chan, worth1000 and Fark Photoshop communities for a cost-effective and highly creative solution to replace the godawful uninspiring motivational posters being distributed by the United States Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Office of the National Counterintelligence Executive
:
Check 'em out here: http://www.ncix.gov/publications/posters/index.html
"ONCIX does not provide printed copies of our posters. These materials are NOT copyrighted, and you are welcome to download, print, and disseminate our posters freely to promote greater counterintelligence awareness." -
Re:So Good It's a Tradition
Meh. If you're going to refer to a site that heightens photoshop to an art form, you should link to worth1000.
Most of Something Awful's Photoshop Phriday is a kindergartner scribbling in the margins compared to what is regularly posted by top competitors on worth1000. -
This happened to my barbershop quartet
This has happened to me, too! Most often to my quartet. I was quite surprised to see this photo of the Beatles as a barbershop quartet. Someone hijacked this photo of my quartet, and changed the faces. Steven Colbert also used our photo on his show (with the original faces). Do I mind? HECK NO -- all PR is good PR!

Re:My eyes, they burn!
Its actually more of a personal bias. I much prefer the shop contests over at Worth1000.

Re:100x colder than space?
I might be wrong but isn't the temperature of space absolut zero. How can you get colder than absolut zero? Can someone with knowledge of the subject matter be so kind to explain?
Absolut Zero you say? Mmmmmm, Absolut Zero...

You're too late.
I've already uncovered the identity of this mysterious blogger, and caught him with his hand in the cookie jar. Here's the evidence:

Looks like he isn't going down without a fight, though...

Re:Plan 9?
Yep, that's what the OS is named after. I think this would have been a much cooler mascot though.

SpoilersMy predictions:
- Xbox 360 bundle with Halo 3 in December...
- With $50 cut in price
- 4 player co-op
- We see Master Chief's face
Actually even just one of those coming true would be pretty sweet. Except for maybe the last...

It had support!
You would've thought with all of the http://www.worth1000.com/cache/contest/contestcac
h e.asp?contest_id=11570&start=1&end=10&display=phot oshop to keep it a planet, it wouldn't have been demoted. -
Re:auto generated crop circle...
Check this worth1000 contest, a few entries are oustanding. Mid-to-high level Photoshoppery, but not outstandingly hard stuff.

Is Reuters complicit? The photo was so obviously manipulated as to be laughable. ANYONE who's ever used the Clone Brush tool would immediately recognize it as having been manipulated, and anyone who's completely unfamiliar with digital photography would still question the regularity of the blobs of smoke.
Sure, this photographer is at fault, and you can make assumptions about his political motives for photoshopping this image. But what's worse is how did Reuters let such a piece of crap into the system? The guys on SomethingAwful or Worth 1000 all do a much better job, and that's just for the glory of the contest. They're not trying to pass their stuff off as "news." Even the guys at Fark aren't this bad (not even Heamer
:-) No, this photoshop was of "The Daily Show" quality -- comically bad.The only conclusion I can come up with is that Reuters isn't actually looking at the images that come in the door. Even if someone at Reuters had the same political agenda as the photographer, he should have had the good sense to deny that picture because the photoshopping was so obvious. Actually, neither conclusion is good news for Reuters at all.

on the heals of...Games that never got made
How about the "Worth 1000: Beta Busts 5" Games that never got made, photoshop games box competition... This one had me laughing so hard I was crying... Check out the "World Cup Hooligans" entry or "Halo Kitty".

Big deal, given the seed size of this thing, I could to it, too.

Re:This crap again?
Here's a picture of one such technology you can buy today - it doesn't consume ANY energy to view the text OR pictures (ambient lighting) and it only requires energy to change the display. Its so energy-efficient it doesn't have an "OFF" switch.
Oh, c'mon, that thing requires TONS of power to change the display. I have something that can have its display changed to the next page with only a flick of the hand.

Re:This crap again?
How many freakin articles about this do we have to read before it's actually in production? Wake me up when it's ready.

Re:Dumb Question?
The quickest way to learn Photoshop is to participate in competitions at sites which include forums. If you like an effect in an image, you can ask how things were done. http://photoshopcontest.com/ is one with a strong forum section, while http://www.fark.com/ and http://www.worth1000.com/ have some pretty cool comps as well.
Many of the experienced people in the competitions are generous about sharing tips and techniques. Some can be real pricks though, so develop a thick skin... -
Re:Where to get decent photo editing done [a bit O
Worth 1000 has what you're looking for.
It's famous for it's high quality photoshop contests, but you can also sponsor a corporate contest: http://www.worth1000.com/popup.asp?faq=265. You'd upload your photos, set the prize price, and then let the competition begin. If you look around the site, you'll see that there's a lot of talent. -

Worth1000 isn't bad either. Some seriously twisted individuals.

So did I! Here's a proof of that crash!
See it on Worth1000. Wow! [grin]

Re:I don't like this...
This isn't a competitor to Gimp.
It's more of a competitor to Inkscape.
Gimp is a competitor to MSPaint, Photoshop, Corel PhotoPaint, JASC Paintshop Pro.
Xara is like Acrylic, Illustrator, Inkscape and even Macromedia Flash.
Flash adds a timeline with animation but it is vector based.
Gimp is a raster editor. If your canvas is 640 pixels across and 480 pixels down, you have 640 pixels times 480 pixels of resolution to edit in. Scalable with software help. Quality varies with size.
Xara is a vector based program. Your canvas size has no limit. 100% scalable.
Artists use vector programs to 'create' in. It's what is used to create icons that we sometimes take for granted but the reality is that someone had to create it. (like fonts)
Raster programs are used to edit existing content to produce a final result. Think http://www.worth1000.com/ -
SIOX and Photoshop Contests
Use of SIOX will most likely increase Fark and Worth 1000 entries. No comment on if this is a good or bad thing...

Not Quite a contest: Submit Your OwnIn the section on "Lightsabre Uses Around the Home" (here and here) they have photos of people using a lightsabre to trim hedges, reheat coffee, etc. Kind of amusing. They also have an open offer to anyone to submit their own photos or ideas to unlisted at stuffo dot com
If you're looking for lightsabre photshop tutorials, there's tons of them out thre. Start here or here.

Re:Fark.
Realistically, at the end of the day both Fark and SomethingAwful are jokey / fun type websites.
As far as pure P'Shop Quality goes, the people at Worth1000 could kick the shit out of both of them. -
I just had to post this again...
