I am speechless with your last references! I thought that it was a common approach in almost any country to legally force everyone to help others in danger. In my country (Spain), this obligation seems (info from a quick internet research) to be divided into 4 sub-categories which can be roughly translated to: not helping someone in danger (3-12 months in jail); not asking for help when you are not in a position to help someone in danger (3-12 months in jail); not helping someone in a traffic accident which you provoked (6-18 months in jail), what doesn't compensate your responsibility for having provoked that accident; medical staff obligated to help someone and not doing so might be charged for up to negligent homicide.

I personally don't care too much about legislation forcing me to do what is right, because I would do it anyway. On the other hand, legal/governmental bodies are precisely meant to set ground rules ensuring everyone's actions to respect the common good; and helping someone in danger seems pretty basic stuff on this front. Some weeks ago, I saw this shocking video (and I am not precisely an easily-shockable person) about a woman being run over twice without anyone helping her! After seeing it, the first idea coming to my mind was precisely "how can all these people not do anything even just to avoid going to jail?"; I couldn't believe that a legal system (not even in China!) might not have regulations of this kind.

The only "hysteria" is everyone laughing, because Trump IS hysterical. I've heard of sore losers, but sore winners? He's already channeling Nixon, who said "I have never profited from public service, I did not obstruct justice, and I am not a crook." And he's already saying he can pardon himself, a step even Nixon never dared take.

There's a reason why it only took Trump 6 months to drop to the same level of popularity as it took 6 years for Nixon.

Since neither party cared for the average citizen, they both deserve what's coming to them. Trump is like the Titanic - a warning to those who follow. Hopefully it will be heeded. If people really wanted to see movies in theaters, theaters would have no problem competing when movies are released simultaneously on streaming and in theaters. If this is an untenable model for theaters, and the only way they can survive is by prohibiting competition for 90 days, then he's admitting that theaters are obsolete and should be allowed to wither and die. The problem is the theaters, not Netflix.

Anyhow, I stream Netflix to my projector which throws the image onto a 150" screen. It's a 1080p projector right now, but as soon as 4k projector prices come down it's being upgraded. Sound is a mid-high end 7.1 speaker system played through a Yamaha DTS receiver whose sound field I've calibrated with the included microphone placed in the middle of the seating area. I play the chariot race scene from Ben Hur on it as a demo (very few people alive who got to see that in theaters), and people are just blown away by the visuals and sound. And the lack of screaming kids and annoying hecklers and sticky floors.

You would probably find that you are unhappy with his review of systemd.

It does not take a genius to recognize film dirt and scratches. Look at the XB-70 videos for example:

Vertical scratches and specs of dirt on film. If it was horizontal white noise scratches then it would have been tape. The video also seems to have heavy amounts of dithering in it possibly from the video encoding filter. Magnify the video to full screen and when there is movement you will see the horizontal line band tearing typical of interlaced video. So, like the other guy said above, this was film converted to NTSC video, encoded with VP9 in .webm (at least the version I'm looking at).

Yes I get paid to work on video as a secondary occupation. I've shot and edited commercials. I've also converted old video on request for clients.
Quite possibly a large part of the original image was even cut in the transfer as most film is not 4:3 like that video.

That's the general fear about making salaries transparent - that high earners will have to justify their high salaries and thus see that it might be lowered. What really happens is those who make less start asking questions as to why they make less. Sometimes it's genuine skill and contributions - Employee A makes more because their work is high quality and people like working with Employee A - using his work output, working with them in general, etc. Employee B, however, barely produces output, and people hate using it because there are so many errors than it needs to be corrected before it can be used, as well as people just avoid interacting with Employee B.

Other times, there can be real problems. This is in general the bigger cauxe - perhaps they didn't negotiate their starting salary as much, or other reason. This is why companies hate salary transparency - they don't want high performers to know how little they're being paid compared to their peers whom were recently hired. One coworker made a mention that if he applied for a job the company was offering, he'd make more money. (He went to his managers and the company re-evaluated all their pay scales).
