That only sort of happened. AT&T Wireless was already spun off from AT&T when it was sold to SBC/Bellsouth (Cingular). Then SBC bought AT&T and renamed itself AT&T. Then bought Bellsouth and renamed Cingular to AT&T.

Hey .. I have Mr. Bunny's Guide to ActiveX and it actually was an informative book. I seriously learnt a lot about Active X and the Windows Registry when I first read it.

I was asking whether the defendant's right to remain silent is good for society as a whole.

I believe as a whole that it is. a few of my thoughts.

Without the Fifth, what prevents a suspect from being locked up until they confess? If there isn't evidence for conviction do we want to allow compelled confession.

If an innocent man is held, a guilty man may be free. Given overcrowding prisons and early paroles, one could argue that it's statistically true.

Is there data that we would convict more guilty people without the Fifth? Are the guilty going to confess if the Fifth didn't exist?

It is part of America's ethos that individual rights trump society's. Such that some of the harm done to society is mitigated by good done to our psyche. There is a hypothesis that this gives us a we can do anything mentality. An offshoot is getting away with things. We often idolize people that get away with things. We make fun of the Fifth. Depending on who uses it, we can love or hate it. It's part of our culture.

I wrote a script once that redirected traffic via a proxy to babblefish which translated it to English to Russian and than back to English again. :-)

It made all the emails from hotmail look like they written by a 6 year old. Unfortunately, security software started catching up with man in the middle attacks by the time I was about finished as this was technically a redirect :-( so I could never use it without antivirus software screaming today.

This is the FIRST time a botnet has been studied in captivity? Did they need an excuse? A hall pass?

Anyone got a good reason why it took this long to study a botnet in captivity when researchers have been able to purchase these tools on black hat sites for as long as they have? Otherwise I call shenanigans. Red tape, bureaucracy, what have you.
