Re:NPR sucks my bunghole
It'd be more accurate to say that NPR are the wikipedia editors of broadcasting stations. The very premise of their channel (National PUBLIC Radio) is foreshortened by those who have taken upon themselves the reins of content, editorial, and command. Now it's more like National People-who-must-hear-the-sound-of-their-own-voice-reading-the-news Radio"
At least they haven't made up their own goofy language. Reading the discussion[citation needed] tabs[citation needed] on any given[citation needed] wikipedia[citation needed] page is like trying read the comments on a Lolcats! page -- enough to drive any sane observer mad. -

Re:case and pointThis is called lolspeak, and was largely popularized by the lolcats videos. The theory behind it (if there is such a thing) is to say something that sounds phonetically just like what you want to say, but is spelled in a fun manner. Usually there aren't a lot of caps or numbers (that is mostly with l33t and similar) because it makes the text much harder to read. Readability is a hallmark for anyone who does this well.

Re:So is the cat dead?
I thought a tri-state cat would be alive, dead and high-impedance.
In lieu of mod points, let the record show that after going through a bunch of Schrodinger or Quantum jokes, the closest I got was this one, because I always thought of "high-impedance" as the TTL way of saying "you don't know, so don't ask, just remember that it's something that is neither 0 nor 1", and the HTML gag was as close as I could get.

Not having enough cat pictures certainly is a real problem with KittenAuth. If only someone were to create a site people uploaded an seemingly infinite number of cat pictures to everyday.

Re:1.6GHz?Everybody knows cats need fast processors to run extra grammar and spelling checks. For a cat, being caught spelling something incorrectly is the height of humiliation. The internet disagrees.
-
Re:This is great but...You wouldn't believe some of the depravity on the Internet. (Seriously, it's not a "safe" place, but if you're Puritan, neither is the phone book, and the only guaranteed safe TV channel is one that is empty. Even Senators have been known to use profanity live.)
Better education would be the smartest move (and not just about the Internet), followed by "safe" (as in: non-controlling, non-manipulative, non-guilt-tripping, non-judgemental) support from trusted adults - not necessarily parents, and in many cases parents would be the worst option.
Some (maybe even many) kids will have an enquiring mind that won't tolerate obstrctions and would rather burn itself out trying than to give up. The worst thing that can happen is for such kids to be forced to back down. It can destroy their mind. I'm not joking. However, most of the areas that are likely to give parents concern are unlikely to be areas that obsessive geek kids are interested in. It should be easy enough to do a little steering to maximize what the kid learns, rather than cripple the kid to stop them encountering something that might hold their interest for a few seconds if just let go.

Obviously the kind of people whose brains think at the complete opposite end of the spectrum as the folks who thought up this one. -
lolcatsIf you haven't seen any of those daft kitty pictures with captions, like a cat watching a washing machine with "THIS TELLY R BORING, WHERE IZ REMOTE?" you probably won't get it. I have seen them and I STILL don't get it... perhaps you could enlighten me. They're trying to be cute, sometimes in an ironic sense. Look at these pages: Lolcat@Wikipedia, Caturday@ED, Lolcats@Uncyclopedia, About@I Can Has Cheezburger, and Cats Can Has Grammar. I'd also recommend familiarizing yourself with The Far Side or similar comic panels. (Caturday.com appears unrelated.)
