Penny Arcade are, as always, right on the money.

Re:I was at E3 and gaming journalism is broken
Because every developer on the floor knew that the most impressive demos for the PS3 were totally prerendered.
While I generally frown on blatant karma whores who post links to Penny Arcade strips in the vain hope that some of the humour will rub off on themselves, I think that this one is particularly appropriate :
http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?date=2005-05 -23&res=l
I will now spend the rest of the evening frantically flagellating myself with barbed wire in an attempt to atone for this act of rank hypocrisy. -
Re:Dev's Already Jumping Ship
Yes and we all know the video gaming industry and media are TOTALLY unbiased...
http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?date=2005-05 -13&res=l
I am sure ANYONE (you said you were media?) that regulary follows the online hardware zines such as [H]ard OCP, TOM, Arand, Sharky, etc, ad nasum, that this sort of practice IS common place in hardware as well. Cheating occurs, Video cards, etc... and generally competitors LIE (omg say it ain't so) about each other.
Besides I wasn't offering an opinion on the subject actually, I was mearly pointing out that you should think about the source. You comments mearly illuminate this.
So if a developer who is NOW solely developing for PS3 says the Xbox2 sucks, well you can go ahead and take that as a truth. Myself, I will wait and see. -
Re:Whats with?
The PS3 will launch with an already impressive library of games as it is fully backwards compatible. The Xbox360 will not be backwards compatible with all games. And the Xbox managed to launch with craptacular titles and keep them rolling.
I've loved my PS2 since I've bought it but lived with a roomate who had an Xbox. The Xbox rocked for modding but the "got to have" games were almost always PS2. Especially RPG.
I've also loved my Gamecube... but I'll admit I'm only going to buy the Revolution because: it is backwards compatible, we'll be able to buy/download older games (sweet sweet classics), and I am a consumer whore. Also there will be Zeldas and Metroids. I imagine. And maybe a return to Final Fantasy for serious.
But seriously... I favor the PS3 for its past library. Xbox360 can wait. -

Re:And...
And will again less because people still have the foolish "kiddy game" thing jammed in their heads?
-
I think Tycho said it better.
Curious but now the obligatory penny arcade reference goes to the written part
G4 coverage would have been great... if it wasnt such a huge infomercial for sony.
First sony tried to convince the audience you were seing a realtime demo in "killzone 2" after that they tried to convince everyone they were showing "real gameplay" sorry sony rep but how can you exactly control a character if the camera is jumping all over the place? also where the heck is the hud? But more important if Killzone 2 is so goddamn impressive then why the heck did they even bothered to show the u3 realtime demo?
Also why the u3 engine team even bothered to expend 5 years creating the engine for PC if it took 2 months with the SDK for the Killzone team (the fucking killzone team no less) 2 months with the ps3 sdk, to create a demo that goes beyond any other game ever created in terms of realism and complexity?
Sony has been awarded with the Now Thats Bull! award by IGN, Penny-Arcade and even Gamespot.

Re:Someone scoring geekpoints...That's J Allard's gamertag. Vice President of XBOX and Chief XNA Architect. And a lucky son of a bitch.
You forgot pirate:
I mentioned in my last post that J Allard looks like a pirate, which is incontrovertible. You only need to look at a picture of the man to see that he spends a lot of time swinging on rigging and generally being dashing.

no i didnt check the links, but since all of them supported one view about violence is contagious i assumed it was biased and therefore didn't want to read any of it, i think penny-arcade's interview thing about violent media research is good enough for me

Re:Dual-link DVI
Yeah, I read his initial post. It was wrong.
Then he admitted he was wrong after you flamed him, and explained his confusion. His post bordered on an apology.
Then you continued being an asshole, and further accused him of lying and karma whoring, even though what you were talking about had nothing to do with his reply.
Then I showed you that there exist monitors which take two DVI cables, so you had no basis for accusing him of lying on that point.
And yet, you're still being a total fucking asshole about it. What's wrong with you?
I'm not Ugulate, although I don't expect you to believe me, because that probably wouldn't give you as much of a hard on.
Yeah, he failed to do a little research and posted some incorrect information. That's no reason to jump all over him and be a dick about it. I hope you don't act like this in real life, because if you do, you're destined to lead a lonely, sterile existence when you drive away everyone around you.
Then again, that's probably why you're posting anonymously. -

Re:Are they making an error ?
The majority of their videogames are single player (or at least not networked) children's games. Flashy disney/fisher-price style games with playability but no real content.
They're not going to spend that kind of cash on a console that basically just plays a bunch of mario spinoffs and tetris.
Which Nintendo games have you actually played personally for more than 5 minutes? Apparently not very many, since you seem to have no clue whatsoever about what's available.
But if a gamer adult wants to invest money in a console, they're going to spend it on a console where they can play games like Doom3
PC port.
CounterStrike
Another PC port, and of a practically ancient game at that.
Halo2
If you don't mind it being a sequel and a game that started life as a PC/Mac game.
Neverwinter Nights
Maybe i've missed something, but this isn't even available on any consoles, only the PC.
How amazingly original these other consoles ( or in your case, the XBox ) are! Surely nothing Nintendo produces could ever come close!
Their sales are pushed not by quality games and interesting products, but by the fact that people who buy a gamecube are usually buying them for a child and the adult doing it thinks "videogame" and "nintendo" are synonymous and don't know better.
Once again this comic is ever so appropriate. And for the record, I'm 25 and own both a PS2 and a Cube. -

Re:Nice MacOS X advert...
With the advent of better graphics, this UI uglification has gone through the roof. Apple's stuff on Windows is equally bad. The old UI standards were good. Why did everyone abandon them? Usability? Hardly, apps are harder to use now that it's hard to tell what's a control and what's just chrome.
The thing about Apple's UI that annoys me (well, apart from the whole chrome thing, which is just a bit nasty because it's inconsistent) is the way they bark at Windows developers like they're small children when they port their apps to Mac OS and don't conform to every Mac OS UI convention...but when Apple port their apps to Windows? Well, screw the standard UI furniture and behaviour! We're Apple!
Case in point: focus behaviour. Windows and Mac OS deal with focus switching differently. In Mac OS, you click on a window that does not have focus, it switches focus to it, and that's it. It doesn't matter where you click, a Mac window will eat the click. Whereas in Windows, all controls are 'live' even if the window does not have focus. So if you click on a button in a window that does not have focus, the button receives the click (as well as the window receiving focus).
Now, you can argue about which is best all you like, but the important thing is: Windows does it one way, Mac OS does it the other, and users on both platforms are used to that.
Until iTunes for Windows comes along, and it uses the Mac OS focus model. I've only started using iTunes again for a week recently, and I've already lost count of the number of times I've had to double/triple/quadruple click because the first click was eaten etc, and then my intentions were misunderstood by iTunes, and it's let me rename a track instead of playing it as I want to, etc.
It's either ignorance or sheer arrogance, and either way it's annoying. Don't screw with platform standards, just because you think you're so great that you can. iTunes is the only app I run on Windows that behaves like this. Great. Just great.
And don't get me started on why the fsck it uses Aqua scroll bars on Windows. What the hell were they thinking?
Answers like "it's branding" don't wash. To most people, that argument plays in their heads like this: "We don't give a fsck about the users."

Re:Game Speed?
This is the classic debate between "slow" and "fast" FPS games. The classic debate is between Unreal Tournament Classic and Quake III.
obligatory penny arcade link: http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?date=1999-12 -15
UTC is slow and tactical. QIII is fast and twitchy. I prefer slow and tactical. Everyday at work, during lunch, we play QIIICPMA. I hate it, but everyone here seems to prefer fast and twitchy. UT2k3 took a big step towards fast and twitchy, so I'd be very happy if the next iteration of the franchise moved back towards its roots. If you want a twitch game, play quake. Give me back my slow and tactical UT. -

I think they have a big reason to criticize. No one likes symbols in place of letters. I can live with failure to capitilize, but symbol useage is even worse than punctuation. But I believe Penny-Arcade said it best...
