You could use tinyurl.com. Takes a long URL and makes a redirect page using a much shorter one. For the above Microsoft link:

And here's a web site with more photos and an article about the toy.

I learned a great deal from this book. (Note: By saying this, I'm not pronouncing this book as the bible on China. Don't box me in. Slashdot is good for that.)
An excellent review can be found here.

Try it under UV Light!
You think that's cool? I got a copy of the paper version of the ad and the image revealed under UV light is pretty cool. I guess they used some kind of special ink (which must've been expensive). Very clever!

Re:DSLR == Narrow depth of field???!!!
As anyone who knows about photography would know this is total tosh. The depth of field depends upon the aperture of the iris.
Actually, the depth of field depends primarly on the size of the aperature, the focal length of the lens, and the size of the circle of confusion at the film/sensor plane. Any spheric and chromatic abberation in the lens elements can also have an effect, but this is not as important as the first three.
I sentence you to a beating with a copy of Photographic Materials and Processes.

very long article...
So now Monsieur Piquepaille has been shamed by scornful posters into including a link to the actual article (instead of harvesting page views), but he'd still really, really like you to click through to his page....

Question about dictionaries under GPL license
Some of the texts on the Free Dictionaries project are listed as being licensed under the GPL. Can you mingle public-domain text with GPL'ed text?
This is a matter of practical concern. I'm overseeing a project which is digitizing copyright-expired dictionaries of the early Germanic languages. Some of the texts on my site are in German, and I'd like to use the GPL'ed Free Dictionaries German-English word list to add a feature to my project which allows you to click a German word to get a translation for that word.
Question 1: Are there provisions of the GPL which would prevent the a GPL'ed dictionary from being intermingled in this matter with existing public domain texts?
Another problem. The texts in my project contain many rare German words relating to Iron Age technology which are unlikely to be in the Free Dictionaries list, so I'd like to add my own supplemental list of words.
Question 2: Can I assign my supplemental word list to the public domain, or do I have to license it under the GPL as a modification to the original word list? -

Red Hat has the highest marketshare out of Linux..
Well it is true that Red Hat has the highest market share out of all Linux servers.
According to Netcraft, most Linux servers are running Red Hat:
http://news.netcraft.com/archives/2004/07/12/sligh t_linux_market_share_loss_for_red_hat.html
The other distributions each by its own numbers do not make a difference at all!
Red Hat is single handedly the most easy to use and biggest known Linux brand name. Most of the IT people I know use Red Hat interchangably with Linux. It's like Kleenex or Aspirin Aspirin. It has become an every day household name. -

What's the point?
You can take your flash media into just about any place these days and have the pictures on it produced with the same machines they use to print negatives. And the cost is about $0.20 per print. At those prices, why mess with lousy inkjets?

run through a flock of penguins to see if it would it be anything like running through a flock of pigeons
hmm.... Pigeons - "flying rats" - can fly and penguins - "flightless wonders" - can't, therefore it seems that it would be a completely different experience.

Gate it off...
Get yourself a nice little corner desk at office depot or something. You should then be able to get a gate like this one at babies-r-us: http://tinyurl.com/4y3u8
It basically bolts to the wall on both ends and had a built in door, providing a barrier around your toys so the kid can't get to them and drool all over them...
And then you end up with walls and a door, but no privacy. It's just like being at work! Wheee! -

Evel Kneivel Stunt Cycle
I have no idea if the Evel Knievel Stunt Cycle is still being made, but it should be. This was the Evel Knievel action figure that rode on top of a motorcycle that had a gyro inside to keep it upright. You put it on the platform and gave the crank a couple of turns and hit the trigger, and it would take off and do a wheelie. It was able to make a jump and land properly, so we had hours of fun setting up more and more death-defying stunts for poor old Evel, such as the "Flaming Hoop of Death". We even did a remake of the classic "Jump the Shark" Happy Days episode starring our toy rubber "Jaws" shark.
