Aye, the exact reason Starcraft, Morrowwind, Baldurs Gate, Betrayal at Krondor, Commander Keen, Doom, C&C (list goes on) are all very fun games that i still play these days. They don't have the gfx of todays games, but heck they are still fun! And here is why Bloom sucks.

The problem with 1080p in video games is that unless the textures are equally stupidly-proportioned, the game's going to look like mud, and the reality is, surprise, surprise, exactly that. Granted, they've been getting around this quite nicely through various post-processing methods and pixel shaders that tend to mask the crappy quality of those textures and models, but still, it's a cop-out.

720p is about as high as a standard 17" computer monitor will go, and to be honest with you, with some anti-aliasing and a decent graphics accelerator, that looks A-OK, and most "High" textures on those games are designed for that in mind. But hell, anything's better than 480i.

But rats are even more convenient.

That's not hard if you only have one to sell.

The thing that's really hurting is that, depite all the hype and the astronomical price, it's not substantially different or better than what the XBox 360 is offering. At least the Wii can claim lower price + novel controller; all Sony has is their brand, and the market is showing that there are some $600+ pills it won't swallow.

Considering the major reason the PS3 is so expensive is so that Sony could use it as its main driver for Blu-Ray, you cannot really say that it does well what it was intended to do. We wont know that for some months and/or years.

I can understand that you feel children shouldn't be playing games like GTA and maybe Bully, I don't know what's in it yet besides bullies and boys kissing. But two things...

It doesn't matter if you're trying to put a criminal in jail or sue the family who broke his leg while he tried to break in, you don't get to take over the court. If Jack Thompson can't make a case without threatening, making blind accusations, and harrassing, then he should very well be held in contempt.

Also, it's not Take Two's fault that children are playing these games any more than it is the movie industries fault that children are watching R-rated movies or pornography. It doesn't matter how much you bubble up a kid, if you don't educate him and monitor his TV/internet/video game/whatever time, it's not anyone's fault but yours if he learns about killing and thinks it's a good idea.

But seriously, Jack Thompson is a mad man. I once thought that maybe there was some essence of good in him, that perhaps there was something more behind him than just video game hating and that he was trying to better our community. But then I did some research and found out he'll disregard your thoughts, intelligence, comments, and presence the moment he finds out you're affiliated to video games at the slightest. He will not only pass off what you're saying as insignificant, he'll insult and threaten you for it as well. Just look up some of his encounters with some writers, or my favorites, with VGCats and Penny Arcade.

The game console industry always has interesting business models

Selling out of pre-orders when you're shipping so few systems at launch (400,000) and most companies are being really conservative about how many pre-orders they take is not all that impressive.

Personally, I came to the conclusion after the XBox 360's launch that if you can't supply enough units that a person can walk into a store and buy a system 6 weeks after launch you were unprepared to release your system and should have probably pushed it back until you could supply enough units.
