Re:Why?
Don't get me wrong this is a line we couldn't ethically cross but since he already crossed it... we should see the results and gather the data. Slap an ankle bracelet on him and have the facility take over his expenses so the lights stay on but he doesn't profit or have someone else pick up his work.
This unethical situation reminded me of Louise Wise Adoption Agency. The difference between these two is that the new situation occurs in China, not in the US. Though, the study will take a life time of the subject to collect the data.
The part I think that it is unethical in this case (and similar to the twin adoption) is that human subjects in the research, and they are treated as subjects all their lives. Would you be OK if you are one of the subjects? Would you be OK that you are forced to be in the study without any chance to contest the decision? If you aren't a subject or directly related to the subject, you would feel differently because there is no impact on you. I think that is the point why it is unethical.

Sad to see it go...
I've been in the habit of cross-posting stuff to FB and G+. I don't think this "breach" would have affected me, as my profile is already public. I also have a ham license, and at least one domain without "privacy" service on the WHOIS data, and listed my real home address as my registered address last time I ran for office, and use my real name as my Wikipedia handle, with my birth year listed on my user page.
There's probably a way to subscribe to some of the stuff I was following on G+ by direct push, or on FB. I have other contacts who had been active on G+ in the past but have already gone dark there, I haven't figured out where they moved to (if anywhere) yet.
There's a change.org petition asking for Google to keep G+ open, if anyone agrees they should.

Re:Consequences?
"I believe you are 100% correct in that the DNC will shortly start asking elections to not happen because they can't be done "fairly""
Yet it was Trump saying that millions of Dem votes were cast by illegals and that Russia plans to help the Dems in the midterms
AC has apparently not paid much attention to history.
Republicans wnat as few people to vote as possible. Their ideological leader Rush Limbaught was not at all facetious when He said that "When women got the right to vot is when it all went downhill" Here is audio of that from 2012. https://www.youtube.com/watch?... Anyhow, disenfranchising more than half of the population is one of their goals.
Keeping chocolate people disenfranchise is childs play compared to what they will do if allowed. There are indeed petitions to repeal the 19th amendment. http://fathersmanifesto.net/19... https://www.change.org/p/81-ma... But AC is either a Russkie Troll, or a very useful idiot of their fifth column.

Re: unfortunately...
Suppose, for example, that some highly qualified, methodical and determinedly unbiased researcher has conducted a brilliant set of experiments which appear to show that people of one race are consistently superior to people of another race in some important way. The work appears to be extremely well-conceived and well-executed. Now think about which universities you're familiar with would be interested in employing her and funding her research. TU would care only about the quality of her research. SJU would give at least as much weight to the potential social impact.
This is actually quite common, especially in medical and sports sciences. I don't really see any evidence of people arguing for, say, more diversity among Olympic finalist short distance sprinters or for women to participate in the Rugby World Cup, for example. Reason being that it's well understood that at those levels biological differences are an issue.
Where you do see it is where biology and medical science can't explain non-white athletes are under represented in things like cycling or motor racing, and where there are very clear issues preventing not just non-whites but also just poorer people in general and women from participating. And really Truth U would have to agree there, there isn't any reasonable counter-argument.
If social justice was not interested in truth, rational argument and careful wide-ranging research without artificial limits then it wouldn't be so strong in academia. It would be like the self-proclaimed "rationals", starting petitions against universities teaching stuff they disagree with.

No! Have not switched 57! AND I WONT!
I tested FF57 my second computer (the one not used by my kids). My conclusion: Firefox Quantum does not help me to protect my children! FF56 and previous did! ALL my parental control extensions does not work anymore!!!! ALL OF THEM! (Examples: Disable Private Browsing Plus, Public Fox, ProCon Latte, just to name a few...) I think that basic parental control related features MUST be implemented directly in the browser (they woud be password protected). Those essential features should be: 1) Disable Private Browsing menu option and keyboard shortcut. 2) Disable deletion of browsing history. 3) Disable the "disabling" or removal of any installed add-ons. 4) Disable starting Firefox in safe mode (including the keyboard shorcut). 5) Disable creating a new Firefox profile. Please sign my petition: https://www.change.org/p/https... Thank you very much!

Firefox Quantum has a big parental control problem
Firefox Quantum has a big parental control problem, which the previous versions did not have. I think that Firefox Quantum does not help me to protect my children! Thoses are essentials parental control features which don't find anywhere in firefox Quantum (57 and +) -Disable Private Browsing menu option and keyboard shortcut. (Password protected). -Disable deletion of browsing history. (Password protected). -Disable the "disabling" or removal of any installed add-ons (WebExtensions). (Password protected). ALL of the extension that helped me to activate those features are Not compatible with Firefox Quantum : -Disable Private Browsing Plus by RichieB2B. -Public Fox by publicfox. Firefox please help us protect our children! Those Feature should be included natively in Firefox ! I don't want my kids to be able to disable my Parental Control Add-ons like: -Enforce Safe Search / Adult Content Filter -ProCon Latte Content Filter by Hunter Paolini (Another problem! This one is Not compatible with Firefox Quantum!) I feel that Firefox Quantum does not care about the safety of our children. Please help us! Please let our children live their childhood! Please sign the petition: https://www.change.org/p/https... Thanks!

As I was really disappointed with this news, I've just made an online petition to see how many people would support it and how TLF would react.

Re:Encourage Simple Gov Regulation
A petition has been started to at least raise visibility of this to congress. Start the dialog at the right levels, and hope it will not get steamrolled by lobbyists.
Well since I suspect many congress people's and their relations personal information was in the breach, maybe we will finally see some real action taken. But the cynic in me thinks there will be two regulations, one for the powerful and another for the peons
-
Encourage Simple Gov Regulation
Regulation can be dangerous, but it seems this is a situation where it is called for: when a citizen's liberty is being trampled; and the Equifax breach will trample on people's liberty for decades to come – yet they are offering a pittance of one year's credit monitoring as if this will help for a lifetime of damage. Perhaps the EU's GDPR takes things a bit too far for the USA, but it can be used as a reference point, and we need something in our citizen's rights to their own identity in this modern world.
There are many technical solutions available, but out the gate, it seems like we should be seeking some greater level of culpability on behalf of those holding this data, perhaps even considering the GDPR in context. We can at least ask that of our government. A petition has been started to at least raise visibility of this to congress. Start the dialog at the right levels, and hope it will not get steamrolled by lobbyists.
-
Change.Org petition for better PII regulations
The free market will not fix this situation because the people they collect the data on are unwilling customers for the credit reporting agencies. We have no choice to opt out let alone easily manage our data, and those who buy the credit scores (i.e. credit lenders) are not affected when there is a breach.
Usually, I'm not a fan of regulation, but this might warrant such. Trying to get better congressional visibility with a new petition:

Re:These two canceled shows...
I don't know the cost of those shows.
Someone made a point earlier that is seems like Netflix cancels its most expensive shows regardless of quality.
Marco Polo - gone, expensive
Sense8 - gone, expensive (season 2, per episode price - 9 Million)
The Get Down - gone, expensive
I don't know the viewership of these shows but I know Sense8 had such a loyal and supportive following, that they finally pressured Netflix into producing a 2 hour final show to wrap up loose ends. (500K +) https://www.change.org/p/netfl... -

http://www.dailyuw.com/opinion...Look, I could keep going but I think that presents extensive proof that you're full of shit.
But since you apparently stopped reading after my first sentence, you don't know how your post actually PROVED my point.
I didn't stop reading. I merely went back and highlighted that you lied in your opening sentence, and since the rest of your illogical rant ridden with falsehoods was based on that lie I couldn't be arsed to go through and point out where you're full of shit.
Milo is offensive and a lot of people have tried to ban him. Many of those identify as 'left' on the political spectrum.
It's clearly too complex an issue for you as you can't properly articulate it. You're too busy throwing around labels like 'left' and 'right', and misrepresenting even those arbitrary positions, and you're operating from a bigoted ignorant base that will prevent you finding any answers, simple or otherwise.
Now fuck off and watch how adults do it.

Won't get updates. Not buying moto again.
Sure, it's cheap. The thing is, they're counting on making you buy a new phone with every single Android update.
I have a 2015 Moto G. I got it partially because I thought Motorola, having touted an 18-month support + update policy, would be better about updates than most of their competitors. But they refused to issue a Nougat update, even though Nougat was released less than 14 months later.
The issue isn't hardware incompatibility or development time. The "Moto G Play" is practically a rebrand of the same hardware, re-released a year later; it got the Nougat update. The issue is that they want to entice people to ditch their still-new hardware to buy the new shiny.

Re:Does Apple need better management?
Maybe Tim Cook is not a sufficiently capable CEO. Remove Tim Cook as CEO of Apple. (Oct 31, 2016) Quote: "Many products are announced in one quarter and released in another quarter."
I guess you are one of the 108 people who signed that petition since October. And that also answers your question.

Re:Just a numbers game...
You changed the subject to health care.
No. You used the term "hurry and up die," which is associated with the healthcare debate. On a related note, Congress extended healthcare for retired coal miners and their relatives in the recently approved budget bill.

There's a petition to revive 3D
Link: https://www.change.org/p/lg-pl... It's asking LG to include just one 3D-enabled TV in their 2018 OLED line-up. (LG is singled out because their 2016 OLED range was easily the best implementation of home 3D there has ever been).
-
I died laughing when I saw the petition
Here is the part that made me laugh:
There are hundreds (if not thousands) of us across the world with large 3D Blu-ray collections who have paid literally thousands of dollars / pounds / euros for these disks which we paid a premium for over 2D Blu-ray do not want to lose access to these when our 2016 OLEDs bite the dust.
Yes...I'm sure the manufacturers are going to jump right in and support those HUNDREDS (if not thousands) of people AROUND THE WORLD who want this feature.

Petition link
If anyone would like to sign the petition mentioned here's the link:

Re:Because Programmers Make Bad Decisions
The language changed for one big reason, that being making strings work properly - i.e. without magic encoding and decoding, silently losing characters or worse. This was a much needed change for anyone except for those assholes who 1) use a language for which ASCII is good enough, and 2) don't care about anyone else, and don't care if their code breaks on non-ASCII locales.
Unfortunately, it was also a breaking change, but there was no way around it. And since they already had one breaking change, they figured they might as well clean up the rest of the language and the core standard library - which they did with great results.
As far as developers sticking to 2.7 - some do, true. And some people still stick to VB6, and keep demanding that Microsoft brings it back. I suspect the "Python 2 forever!" crowd will eventually end up in the same boat - we're getting close to a similar timeframe, at least. In the meantime, anyone who is actually following the ecosystem knows that all the major libraries and frameworks are now available on 3.x, most smaller libraries are as well or else have replacements (often API-compatible), and the overall trend is that 2.x usage keeps declining, and 3.x usage keeps trending up. So, painful as the transition has been, the community had powered through it, and reaped the rewards in form of a better, cleaner language.

Re:I just bought one last week
Oh god, does anyone else remember that cringe-worthy petition to get Bloodborne released on PC?
https://www.change.org/p/from-...
I'm still not sure if the submitter was being serious when they created the petition.
Nope... but I do remember the petition to release the DLCs for Skyrim for the PS3. Bethesda, at the time, said that the PS3 wasn't powerful enough. I ended up having to buy the PC version of Skyrim and migrate my save games to the PC. Of course, going from the PS3 to a PC with a GTX 970 made a big difference in graphics and load times.
This experience reminded me of the limitations of consoles. It didn't stop me from upgrading to a PS4, but it did remind me why I use my desktop as my main gaming rig.

A way back
Change.org has a petition to encourage electors to vote for Clinton. I really think the electoral college needs to end. States tend to be locked in for the most part which results in micro targeting people in swing states for their votes. That is _not_ better than just letting everyone have an equal voice. I encourage everyone to sign the change.org petition, not because it is good for our country, but because it would give us a foothold in ending this electoral college nonsense.
People need to be more educated in the issues and in what is true and not, but they also need an equal voice.

The point
The point was that climate change over 100,000 years is less challenging to the biosphere than a similar amount of climate change occurring in 100 years.
That's not assurance that said 100-year change is going to actually happen as the various attempts at models depict -- those are predictions, and none of them take into account any ameliorative technolg(y/ies), because of course no one has any good way to measure what the impact of such things might be.
One thing I am pretty sure of is that we'll be transitioning to EVs fairly rapidly now (in terms of a 100 year time period) and that will push the rate of human-generated CO2 downwards by some significant amount [waves hands.]
Personally, that's what I'm looking for from whatever leadership we end up with next year: get us off the oil teat as fast as possible. For many reasons. It may be Trump and crew or it may not be, but whoever it is, that's the responsible thing to do.

Re:Frivolous lawsuit
Well then obviously you need to immediately contact the defense council and inform them that, via your rigorous research, you have determined that Snapchat does not offer a trophy for posting while moving faster than 100mph, that there is not a speed filter, and that the passenger in the car who described exactly what the driver was doing is delusional or lying. I'm sure they will offer their profound thanks for your services.
You should also contact change.org to have them remove this petition, since it is no longer an issue. Again, thanks to your exhaustive research.
You also need to get in Wikihow and amend this page, which describes how to use the non-existent speed filter. Make sure to note that this is based on your extensive personal use and deep understanding of the Snapchat app, and clarify that it's not just based on you doing a couple Google searches and thinking you know all the features of Snapchat.
Oh yeah, when you contact the defense council, make sure you also give them your evidence that there was no trophy offered by Snapchat at the time of the accident. The judge might ask for something like that, you just want to cover all of your bases. I'm sure they'll be happy to take you out to lunch or something.
