Another good game to re-release
Would be Dance Dance Revolution - Disney Mix for the PS1. It sells for a pretty decent price and they might make some money off of it. ddr disney

Re:Effective, but hardly practical.
Good idea, just a few modifications.
Use Naugyhide for the wallet rather than duct tape. Sew it together (if you don't know how to sew they lady in the house above your basement does). Use a few plies of industrial aluminum foil so it doesn't crumble after being folded over and over again.
Duct tape is good for some things, but not quite as nice as using good materials to make a decent product. -
Ideal Media Setup
A device that plays DVDs, AND can read files from a SMB (Windows, or Samba) share. Maybe something else. I don't care, as many of the available devices force you to navigate a directory heirarchy anyway. Plays mp3, ogg, mpeg2 and 4, avi (Divx and xvid), qt, etc. Preferably with the ability to update codecs/container formats as required, but even being able to play what was current a year ago today would be nice.
- Get an xbox for 100 bucks
- Softmod it
- Install XBox Media Center

Vaporware
Some remarks:
- The concept: Take a 12" iBook, flip the display onto its back, attach a Keytec USB touchpanel on top and fix it all together. No further hardware modifications, of course you will not be able to use the keyboard or trackpad afterwards, and one USB port is already used by the touchscreen.
- None of these have ever been build. From their site: "The iTab is not built yet. We will build them as they are sold." If they intend to sell 100 of them, shouldn't they at least build one prototype? All they have are some photoshopped mockups.
- Obviously Apples warranty will no longer apply. They will give you no guarantee either. Even more: "We will not fix any broken iTabs." Great service. Should you buy it and it never works, just throw it away. But of course this will never happen, because "we will do extensive tests on the iBook before modifying to catch any problems with it. Any problems with a computer are usually immediately visible after these tests. So the chance of your iTab breaking after purchase is lower." Exactly. The whole warranty stuff is overrated, vendor tested hardware almost never fails.
- Handwriting does not work. "The touchscreen technology used in iTab is not compatible with InkWell, Apple's handwriting recognition technology". Your only option is to purchase a third party virtual keyboard product.
- The vendor has a 14 feedbacks from buyers at ebay, five of them since 09/2005, most of which where books about tennis, none hardware.

obligatory eBay price analysis: demand not high
eBay listings for the 360, if they are any indication, seem to show that folks aren't willing anymore to pay much, if any, of a premium beyond the suggested retail price anymore. Which is pretty shocking, when you consider that retail outlets do seem to be completely sold out... wouldn't you expect these things to be selling for more on eBay if the demand was really there?
-
This is ridiculous
Why would anyone want to spend $2000 on a monitor? For half the cost (and this isn't even a great example), I'd sooner buy a projector that gives me up to 300inches of view space. Not to mention I can watch movies on it, too.

Addon HD-DVD is the new Broadband Adapter
Of course, the addon HD-DVD drive isn't meant to be used my consumers today. It is cleary intended to be bought years after the Xbox 360's lifecycle is over, and will sell for outrageous prices on eBay since nobody bought them orginally and few are on the market. Remember the Dreamcast Broadband Adapter? Same principal here. (I'd recommend buying three or four of them, and keeping them MIB.)

Re:Speculation, but an interesting thought
Would they buy a GoogleBox, that allows them to access their web mail, google office (assuming its not a myth) and various web sites "without a computer", and all they have to do is hook it up to a DSL/Cable line and a power line?
Sure, just like they bought all those "internet appliances" and "web terminals" which were supposed to be the next big thing a few years ago and now go for peanuts on eBay. -
Sick antique book Horse in Motion for auction
Speaking of animal motion, I just stumbled upon this antique book for sale from 1882. I remember learning about it a while ago from an animation class I had in art school. It's a fabulous book with loads of early photos and research into the motion of a horse. I believe it's a first edition as well.

Plus, the over heating only happens when stuffed into an tight entertainment system with no chance of air circulation. My powermac dual 1.42 G4 would behave the same way if I cut off all chances to breathe.
I have 6 xbox360's in current use every day, 12+ hours per day. Not a single problem yet, other than one game title was stolen. The 360's are very nice and a pretty scary threat to Apple's Digital Hub concept.. But then, apple innovates, and MS takes that to the real market.
Any hoo, the 360's are being caught up in a sea of FUD and I just want to say it just isn't all true.

Re:Is this a gadget?
well, what's really cool, is that a lot of gadgetry that doesn't have a USB charge jack, takes the correct voltage such that they can be charged directly via USB. Like, for example, the PSP and the iriver iHP-340 both take 5v input, and can both be charged with the same ziplinq cable. And I can use that same 5-pin ziplinq cable to get pictures from my camera.
So rather than go to best buy, and spend $25 for a mobile charger for the PSP, another $25 for one for the iRiver, $15 on a "sync cable" for a camera, and another $20 camera travel charger, you can do all that with one $3 cable from hong kong. Usually, you can get ziplinq cables for $0.99 + shipping on ebay, because ebay is flooded with them. And shipping is dirt cheap. (With all the auction fraud, that's all ebay is good for these days. items under 10 bucks)
I carry a total of three ziplinq cables in my bag(4pin USB, 5pin USB, treoUSB) and they charge/interface every piece of gadgetry I have, both at home, and in the car (with the Car-> usb adapter). -

Re:The RIAA is listed as 1 of the losers....
Either way, the RIAA doesn't lose. It only loses if artists start seeing the RIAA as not the only way to distribute their stuff and earn a living (I gotta get signed man!)
It's getting to the point that less and less new artists are at that point where they "gotta get signed to a major label". Look at what's out there now - with the exception of rap, there's not a lot of bands who were big before they were signed. Most of the rock bands that have been popular in the last, oh, 5 years or so released their "debut" album on a major label. That's unheard-of - their first album released with millions and millions of backing, posters in Best Buy and Times Square, commercials on VH1, street teams, music videos...
It has happened because 1.) the major labels have figured out what sells and they replicate the same cookie cutter stuff over and over again - forming bands with the intention of selling records, or 2.) someone's brother's cousin gets a favor done for them, and a previously unheard band with 2 months of practice and no songs gets signed because they look good.
Well, real bands are more and more moving away from that. There was a rash of bands that went from indie to major labels a few years back (AFI, New Found Glory), but lately from what I see hardly anyone is interested. Bands don't want the attention of the people that MTV brings, and would rather keep their dedicated fanbase. Not to mention - lots of bands who have signed with a major have found themselves abandoned by both fans and label - Less Than Jake, for instance. The label owns distribution rights on anything they put out, and they don't match the current music climate (R&B, collegemetal). Same for Thrice, and others.
The RIAA and, moreso, the big 3, have not figured out that this is a try-before-you-buy society now. They push crap, and they charge whatever they want for it. Plus, tales like this and this are finally getting heard. They're scared, now, becuase we've all had a chance to hear it before we buy it, and it sucks. And as per usual, they're going to be late catching up on the next big thing, but the next big thing doesn't want any of it. They're giving their music away, before people can steal it. And you know what? It's working:
Hey, everyone. We've gotten quite a bit of flack from a lot of friends, family members, other bands and oddly enough several religious denominations on how we run things in Bomb The Music Industry!... no "merchandise", having everything available for free, making shirts and burning CDs and asking for donations if people would like us to continue to do stuff this way.
Well, we broke even. Again. That's the second time.
And yes, we didn't get FOOD every now and then. And sure we had to get drunk on our own money. But we did it pretty much.
So, they're just going to go ahead doing what they do, sueing their audience, and slowly, the major label is going to become obsolete - cause, really - what's the advantage of a record label? Distribution and Loans - that's all they do. Well, the internet is the new distribution, and the equipment to record worldclass music is getting cheaper by the day.

Re:How do they know the size and speed of the obje
He asked the size and speed. All that can be inferred is the energy of the strike. The mass can be derived from that along a range of impact speeds, but the diameter is nothing but pure guesswork.
For instance, if the meteoroid was iron, it could deliver the same impact in a smaller package. If it was primarily carbonaceous chondrite, it would have to be much larger.
Note in the summary only the diameter is given (stated as fact), not the mass or speed of the object. The summary was weak from a scientific standpoint. You would think the danger of moondust is that it kills on contact or something. -
Re:lol. political awards anyone?
True, but then in the same since your theory of gasses just appearing is just as illogical as the theory of God always existing. Where is end of the universe? Is there a wall and a sign that say's the end somewhere deep into space? No and I don't think anyone believes that. So it is not any more irrational to believe in a God with no beginning and no end than it is for you to believe in an infinite universe that just happened.
I am actually reading a very well written book called God doesn't believe in atheists by Ray Comfort... I highly recommend it. Ray Comfort has been a platform speaker at the National convention of American Atheists. I venture to say that as an atheist it would be near impossible to read this book and not have your "faith" shaken considerably. If you doubt my claim, I encourage you to grab a copy and read it.

xbox 360 to support Charity Bike Ride to Alaska!
Not to toot my own horn or anything, but in the spirit of this thread...
I'm actually selling an xbox on ebay to raise money for the Texas 4000 for Cancer annual charity bike ride to Alaska. There's 50 of us riding our bikes (that's bicycles, not motorcycles) from Austin, TX to Anchorage, AK this summer to raise money for the American Cancer Society, and to raise awareness of cancer issues. It's a distance of a little over 4,500 miles, and we take 70 days to cover it. Comes out to about 80 miles per day. We also volunteer at a bunch of cancer wards and children's hospitals along the way, and give lots of cancer awareness and prevention talks.
It's a pretty awesome cause, so I'm hoping someone who is looking for an xbox agrees. :) Plus the auction is fully tax deductible because we are registered non-profit. :)

EU law is not applicable in the US.
1. EU law is not applicable in the US, if it is really even EU law (since you don't seem able to look up even the simple US EBay policy) at ebay.com.
2. Visa completely prohibits payment surcharges in the US. There are any number of references to this on the Visa site and all over the internet for anyone willing to look:
http://usa.visa.com/download/business/accepting_vi sa/ops_risk_management/rules_for_visa_merchants.pd f
http://usa.visa.com/download/business/accepting_ visa/ops_risk_management/visa_risk_management_guid e_ecommerce.pdf
Search for the word 'surcharge'. Trivial to find thousands of internet documents explaining this fundamental policy of Visa and other credit cards.3. EBay prohibits payment surcharges. http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-surch
a rges.html4. The seller would have to mention the surcharge in his listing, which he clearly did not either before or after the dispute when he claimed to accept credit card as an alternative to PayPal, because adding unexpected surcharges is wrong.
5. I tried and tried to get anyone to look at it. They are all complicit in the fraud because they would not. No one ever challenged that I had EBay, Visa, etc. policy on my side. They just completely ignored it, except when the Seller complained with no evidence (and I had already submitted multiple evidence that he would not sell), they jumped to issue a strike on me.
6. I would take you up on looking into it further if I did not consider it only a PR ploy to pretend to take it private because we happen to be in a public forum where EBay is getting a very justified black eye by many with similar experiences. Lack of trying for resolution on my part was never an issue at the time, and the records are long erased by now because in disgust I went through the multi-month process of having my username removed.
7. The much better thing you could do is try establish a credible system for getting responses and getting this sort of issue resolved, but you will be working against EBay's status quo. Until then, eBay will be fraud's best friend, punishing only the victims, and I will hold a discussion with EBay only in a public forum where their lies become more transparent, and I will continue to state that one of the most-effective ways to avoid fraud on the internet is adding -EBay to searches.
Try looking up your own EBay policies before responding. Are you really an EBay employee, or are you just trying to make them look bad? I accept the possibility that you may be honestly deluded about EBay status quo, but you are not trying at all. It was prominently linked from the first page on policies for sellers at ebay.com.

A love/hate relationship
I've made big purchases (motocross bike for $1800 as well as bikes for my kids) as well as small purchases and also sold quite a few things. Here are some tips for sellers:
1) Change your "buyer requirements" to the following:
Block buyers who:
Are registered in countries to which I do not ship
Have a feedback score of -1 or lower
Have received 2 Unpaid Item strikes in the last 30 days
Are currently winning or have bought 1 of my items in the last 10 days
and have a feedback score of 0 or lower
2) Cancel bids with 0 feedback
3) Check the buyer's history to see if it could be a hijacked account. You can usually see a trend in the types of things they buy. If they buy nothing but dolls and then suddenly a IBM X330 server it should be a warning flag. Also, a hijacked account usually only has very old transactions. If the user has bought items recently and they are very small things be wary. They do this to get good feedback and then screw you with a chargeback.
4) Use PayPal and ONLY SHIP TO A CONFIRMED PAYPAL ADDRESS USING A TRACKABLE METHOD. I know it sucks, but it is the only way to get seller protection. I state in my auctions that the buyer must have a confirmed paypal address and I only accept paypal. I've had no problems since doing these things.
I tried to sell a motorcycle and the damn auction kept getting "bought now" by a scammer. I stated in the auction that I would not ship and a buyer from the UK bought it. I knew it was fraud immediately and put in a dispute which I won because the buyer unregistered. I tried to sell the bike again with the "I don't ship to other countries" option checked and some A hole from California bought it even though I said I WON'T SHIP!!! I knew it was fraud again. The kicker is that Ebay will only let you relist an item one time after a successful dispute. After this you have to pay the insertion and listing fees again. Ebay SUCKS in this regard but what can you do? They have all the power. Total monopoly. I would love to see them get some competition. I'd jump ship in a second. I can't give up on ebay though because I do make some cash there and also find great deals. It would be heaven if not for the scammers.
I've seen a company who puts out an "auction" that is basically just a public service announcement about scammers who sell items simlilar to theirs. These fuckers hijack an ebay account and put up an auction for $5,000 electronic drums starting at $.01 and when it sells for $1,200 the buyer gets scammed. Ebay totally knows about it and does nothing. The legit business owner who sells these drums puts up the auction just to warn people about the other auctions. What he is doing is great but Ebay sucks for letting the scammers rule the roost.
Here is a link to the warning auction
I'd like to see ebay lose a shitload of money over this stuff in a class action lawsuit. That would be AWESOME. -
Re:Someone please think of the sellers?
I do not see how from this table http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/fees.html, near as I can figured that is a 1.99 fee for 50 dollar sale. then lets say shipping is 5 dollars for usps, then for receiving funds in paypal is 1.9 to 2.9 % plus 30 cents. so if you are making under 3000 a month it is 1.90 for the paypal fee. Now that is 4 dollars total. to avoid paypal, do money orders. Pay pal listing of fees http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display
- fees-outside I do selling for friends all the time and never get bit on the fees by just following these calculations. For ebay you need to watch the listing fees. -
The eBay 'venue'Disclaimer: I sell stuff on ebay.
There are a number of things that are particularly prone to fraud on eBay. The most common are laptops and cameras, followed closely by cellphones and cellphone accessories. Unfortunately, the particular genre I have chosen (musical instruments) is also full of fraud (and borderline ripoffs). No way I would buy a laptop on eBay, if for no other reason than most commodity items are not really suitable for the eBay auction format anyway.
BTW, there is already an eBay-killer lurking in the wings. It's Froogle. Froogle hasn't really hit it's stride yet, but the Froogle business model has some significant advantages over eBay -- and is inherently superior for about 90% of the stuff you find on eBay now. The eBay auction format is well-suited for one-of-a-kind items with high personal value-add, and little else.
In addition, eBay doesn't scale worth a damn. In order to get twice the sales, you have to work at least twice as hard (assuming you are actually an honest seller). I have recently scaled my auctions way back (from 90+ active auctions to fewer than 20), and watched my sell-through percentage more than triple, and my workload cut by 90%. For a net reduction in eBay-linked profit of about 40%. I consider that a pretty clear indicator that I really need to change my approach to de-emphasize eBay.
eBay *does* have other competition besides Froogle. One of my favorites is Blujay, which is mainly a fixed-price aggregator listing/classifieds service. Blujay.com has grown large enough to show up on the watchlist at PowerSellersUnite.com (a forum of mostly disgruntled ebay sellers). Blujay.com also leverages listings with Froogle, which has definitely helped their traffic. I sell about 1/10 as much stuff through Blujay.com as I do on eBay, and it accounts for more than 1/4 of my profits -- or it did until this month (I just made a large volume sale to a school directly, without eBay or PayPal), mainly because the cost of selling there is much lower.
Craig's List was also a viable alternative, but since they have sold out to eBay, I expect that to change.
Unfortunately, in the Internet world, there is a strong tendency for the market leader to completely dominate, and #2 is way down in the noise. The #1 position can change, however... If GooglePay ever becomes reality, eBay and PayPal are going to be in serious trouble.
For now, eBay is still the place to get some real bargains -- if you are careful. That's because the typical eBay seller has no clue what her/his actual costs are, and is often selling at a loss. The vast majority of eBay sellers last about 6-9 months before the clue-stick smites them in the form of running out of money. Just stay away from the really huge ripoff-potential items like laptops and consumer electronics sold at ridiculous prices by people you have never heard of. And do some research on what you are buying; in particular, don't get in a hurry and skim through the auction description, and take some time to read the negs and neutrals in the feedback log. Check out the history of the seller. Use PayPal if you can't use a credit card directly. Don't even look at auctions with private bid lists or one-day limits (the one-day auctions with private bidders and private feedback are roughly 100% fraudulent, and there is no way that eBay can be unaware of this).

Below is my complaint to FBI...FYI - I new this guy was a scammer, but I had to fuck with him. FBI did nothing. IFCC COMPLAINT REFERRAL REPORT Complaint Number: I05083009025669
Date of Contact: 08/29/2005 Contact Information:
Dear Sellers, I'm writing to inquire about bidding on your G5 powermacs: I am curious though, how is it that two different sellers have identical description headers? The following description, "Only used once for mixing down an album and returned to the box. FULLY LOADED!! Tons of software (contact for details) The computer and monitor were purchased at the same time (end of March 2005), so both the computer and display are eligible to be covered under AppleCare. Both the computer and display are in new condition, and are in the retail box," seems too unique to be authored by different individuals. One Mac is in NY and the other in DC, which should decrease the probability of duplicate descriptions. Please explain. Also, I know this a strange request, but please bare with me, would you mind registering for a free gmail account at google and using that for email correspondence? I am serious about a G5 powermac purchase and I'm excited to place a bid or to buy-it-now.

Dragosi, I'm really excited about the new G5. I live in Ash Fork, Arizona. My street address is 704 Pine Ave and the zip is 86320. We don't have western union here. It is a small town in the desert, we do have a post office though, so I can overnight a money order. The closest place that has western union is Williams about 20 miles away. I have been saving up to get a car, but I figure with a new computer I might be able to get a real server up and running and start a small online business selling the local crafts. There are a lot of native people here and they make crafts but have no way to sell them online.

Below is my complaint to FBI...FYI - I new this guy was a scammer, but I had to fuck with him. FBI did nothing. IFCC COMPLAINT REFERRAL REPORT Complaint Number: I05083009025669

Re:Speaking of fraudulent eBay... PriceRitePhoto
Actually they have now changed their name on eBay to BarclayPhoto
The blogger that this all started with has been doing a good job of tracking these guys down, including all of the aliases they operate under. -
Speaking of fraudulent eBay... PriceRitePhoto
Rember our friends priceritephoto.com? They are a full fledged eBay dealer. Though not as obvious as most other eBay scams, fraud companies like them are operating on eBay.

Blatant Advertising?
Would this be a bad time to mention certain ebay auctions by incredibly reputable individuals which contain said game?
Alright so I'm hard up for cash and want my games to get a good home. Mod me down then (but take a look anyway!) -
He just posted another auction

Apparently he is a researcher that was looking to find the true market value for an exploit by selling it on ebay. Was gonna write a paper.
