Kid Beyond
Back when AOTS was still watchable, they had on a beatboxer/live mixer called Kid Beyond. I was quite impressed, but I've never seen him live or really do much else outside that quick set. There's some videos of him over at Youtube if you're WMV-Impared and cant's check out his website.

Re:I'd like to say...
About the same time, actually. Taco was on Screen Savers in mid-November 2004, while Keven Rose supposedly launched Digg November 1, 2004.
-
Re:Cooking Oil PC
Let's not forget The Screensavers, either. They did a submerged-PC with hydrofluoroether way back in 2002.
It seems to me like using HFE is a much better idea than using machine oil... it's not a solvent, it's as biologically safe as water, and it's not dangerous or difficult to dispose of. Of course, it's probably more expensive, but with a sealed case you probably wouldn't ever have to change it, either. And because it evaporates like water, and it's got a low viscosity like water, parts inside would almost certainly be easier to work with. -
Already covered on The Screensavers?
Back in 2004 Kevin Rose demonstrated DefendAir Radio Shield paint on The Screensavers. It sounds like the same kind of paint.

On this list of lamest 360 Achievements http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/674028/The_
1 7_Lamest_360_Achievements.html, they list one -- worth 0 points -- that a gamer acquires for quitting 10 online games. Every game should have something like this, so a serial quitter's assmunchery is on his gamercard for all to see. I'm lame to middling in practically all online games, but I'll stick it out to every humiliating end. -

X-Play Saves: Sonic the Hedgehog
Here is X-Play's feature on how to save the series:
http://www.g4tv.com/pile_player.aspx?video_key=122 68MFrom a reviewer's perspective, the 3D Sonic titles are brought down primarily by technical problems and secondly by a lack of focus on what makes the Sonic series unique. Once you resolve that, I believe the series can be further enhanced by track-relative controls (as opposed to camera-relative) and the introduction of quick time events for complex maneuvers.

First of all, its not gruesome death, just the loss of an unneeded appendage. Second, its not just that I don't agree with Jack Thompson - the man is disgusting in his conduct.

Re:Exemplary prior posts prove potential
Why would people continue to want a PS3 given the complete shortage of games for it.
Not only that, but even the Wall Street Journal, had a main fold front page story (in print) on how the Christmas shopping season was dissapointing, with the exception of the Nintendo Wii and HDTV sales.
And, in the G4 TV program, they have only given one 5 star rating for the entire PS3 lineup - the PSP is doing much better, of course. -

Re: Are they defective or just console war smack?
Yes, a fact that he "heard on the radio" with no citation or supporting evidence given whatsoever. A fact that also disingenuously refers to "the PS3 lines" even though the statistic given is based on pre-orders.
I heard it on KUOW, the local NPR station. I can't remember what "show" it was, I was waking up at 9 after having been up until 3 playing the Wii. It was a national NPR news feed. The reference to lines was also from coverage on CNN. I also watched G4 on cable for game-day and release coverage, from The Show, from that review thing with Adam whoever and whatshername, and some other thing they do. I also checked Comcast's On Demand G4 game reviews and cheats they posted Saturday.
So I don't like wasting my time posting links. Sue me. If the truth hurts, deal with it. But don't blame me. I'm not the media. -
Re:And being the nerds they are...
Nice nerd-fu, but do you remember the episode name?

I know where you heard it.
Uh no. USB2 is crap at handling throughput. I wish I could remember where I saw it, it was ars technica or hothardware or something,
It was on TechTV. -
Re:Two birds with one poorly lobbed stone dept.
Sony isn't going to use force feedback vibration because of their suit with Immersion so calling it the anything-shock without changing the feedback to being an actual shock would be out of the question.
They also saw the buzz that Nintendo was creating with their accelerometer based revolution. So a quick implementation of this into their current controller designs gives them a new tout-able feature (ooh... the Sixaxis) and a lame excuse about why they can't implement vibration. Sorry, we had to remove vibration from the controller because it interferes with the motion sensor despite the fact that the Wii-mote will have both. Actually the Wii remote can rumble both sides giving it two vibration motors as opposed to just one in the Gamecube; maybe they should call it a "DualShockWiiMote" :)
Anyway, I'm glad that Sony was able to quickly implement accelerometers to make the Sixaxis controller. I would've hated to hear the alternatives coming from Sony's marketing department...
"Bundled with the Playstation 3 is the exclusive DodecaClick3 controller. It has a whopping twelve buttons which is much more than at least one of our competitors. Imagine the games that can be created tot take advantage of this."
Although now I kind of do like the idea of kids yelling "Mommy! Mommy! I want a DodecaClick!" Hold on a sec while I trademark that... :) -
Re:EM Pollution
I thought you meant Ethernet over Power(notice the overwhelming demand bit). Ethernet doesn't have any inherent powering, although it has some unused wires you could in theory use to power a device, but you would need to some funky stuff. Probably a bit ambitious
;) But anyway, I'm looking forward to devices that use EoP since most electronic devices in your home--tv, vcr, dvd player--already need a power plug so might was well piggy back off of that to feed HD. Also some great home-automation features seem really practical with that setup. My whole point is that wireless is most practical for mobile devices and what's the point of watching HD on a 2 inch screen? HD stays wired. -

Re:you are wrongHey, these days automatic rotoscoping is pretty common to see, in everything from insurance commercials to feature films. It's not real-time, but with enough processing muscle, it could be. They used something called Rotoshop.

Re:Just fine
Actually, they did make drives that used multiple beams. My friend had what claimed to be a 72x CD-ROM drive that used this technology. I guess it didn't really catch on so well, though, as I don't think I've seen any of these in the stores lately and I think Zen Research is out of business. Well, at least their website is dead.

Re:So Sad
Agreed, I'd never heard of this company before. What does it take to post stuff on the Internet, like maybe in some of the foums where people talk about these ROMs?
Really, I'd buy old ROMs on a CD for my MythTV, if I only knew where!
Interestingly enough, we get this G4 TV channel with our deprecated Comcast cable. On it, was a show called Icons, which had two great episodes that really caught my eye -- one looked at music-related games like Parappa the Rapper and DDR, and the other episode was on the Intellivision, which I thought was really neat, having had one. Intellivision Lives!, is this the way to success for old game companies? -
Obviously, it's because you abuse your power
I know a lot of people are concerned about Big Brother, but my response to that is, if you are not doing anything wrong, why should you worry about it?
How about one worrying about them doing something wrong with all the information they get?
It happens, quite frequently too. Just look at the RIAA suing deceased grandmothers.
But of course, they're *drumroll* the law enforcement and never makes mistakes... -
G4TVG4TV showed an excellent documentary on the life of Ralph Baer as part of their series Icons. He really does deserve the medal and the recognition.

Boll interview from G4's Attack of the Show
I don't believe this is the whole thing though. I remember him rambling on about how he wanted in BloodRayne to tell her story of where she came from, and that's why it's nothing like the game. And very seriously wanting to continue telling her story through time...the next era being Western. He was dead serious. Also, there is an article telling of the adventures the original screenwriters for Alone in the Dark and their encounters with Uwe Boll. Damn funny, and shows how nuts the guy is! Read it here.

Good to see you still feel that way...Slashdot is not a normal news site. Never has been.
I especially liked the way you phrased it to The Screen Savers last year...
(Yeah, selective quoting is fun... But I mean it with admiration, really. ... You can go to CNN and see very straight-laced, spell-checked, fact-checked summary of the day's events. Or you can go somewhere like Slashdot ... :-))
Since we have your ear, Rob, I'd probably like to make some insightful comment about the kinds of things we as a community would appreciate seeing... To be honest, I don't think that I could achieve that, but at least, I'll make an inane comment, and we'll see if anyone else feels like interjecting...
You've said elsewhere in this thread that you don't have time to comment here because you guys are so busy with running the site... I know that some of us would be happy with a couple fewer stories per day, in exchange from a few comments from you guys... It makes a world of difference when you can see that those at the top of the pile still act and feel like the rest of us...
(PS, to all those actually care: yes, that is the same article as in my .sig, and the paraphrasing there was done to fit in the 120 char limit, as well as to target the haters who complain about dupes, spelling and grammar.) -

Bobby Knight is my new VG coach.
Tournaments, Sponsors, Coaches... we're almost there. When will we get a station to televise gaming competitions with half-decent in-game footage and literate (let alone charismatic) announcers, preferably hosted by people who aren't retarded?

Re:Bah. Seen it all before
You are right, there have been no innovations in gaming in the last two years. And those are just the ones off the top of my head. Stop following the marketing hype crowd and look around for yourself.

correction -- Re:Jobs ain't stoopid
To make some of you whiners happy, the BYTEmark fiasco happened in 1998, under Jobs' command, so he can be blamed:

Also,There will be plenty of speculation on the new controller by the time that I post this, but it should be noted that an article at G4 says that the Revolution will have Gamecube controller ports. So if the major game designers find that the new controller doesn't suit them, they can design their games around the Gamecube's layout.
This means that, at launch, I will be able to use my old wavebirds, which I consider to be the pinnacle of controller design, to have a full compliment of controllers without having to lay down an extra $150-200. It's always irked me that it costs so much extra to get the controllers needed for the best experience in multiplayer games like Smash Brothers, and I'm glad to see that Nintendo is making their system backwards compatable in this way.

Re:Sig reply...Oh... Interesting.
For those who are interested, the sig in question was:chip n dip? Did you mean Slashdot?
More info is available from various interviews and magazine articles found via Google. The things you learn from the old hands... Thanks for the tip. This is the kind of stuff which probably should have made it into the Wikipedia...
Interesing Malda quote, which fell out from that research: "You can go to CNN and see very straight-laced, spell-checked, fact-checked summary of the day's events. Or you can go somewhere like Slashdot..."

Notice the "Copyright G4 Media" on both pages. Hmm.
Notice how they have almost the same shows. Hmm.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G4_Media
Notice that the American company has a 30% minor ownership in the Canadian version. Hmm.
Notice the fact that the Canadian page says "Call for Help - coming to the US!" Hmm hmm hmm.
Why, yes! It's the same show! From the same production company!
Anyone who's given Mr. Laporte money has given money for the production of "This Week in Tech," which is a podcast, and has nothing to do with his television shows. HELLO.
So you just run along and heat your retards, 'kay? Whatever the hell that's supposed to mean. -
Re:What?!?
A videogame network could be so cool with such little effort. Have people playing multiplayer online games and just televise it with maybe some commentating. Hell I'd flip it on to watch a cool deathmatch or Mario Kart or basically anything *other* than what is currently on G4. And the chance to get to play and have it televised would be pretty neat for gamers.
They actually already have this. It is called Arena, and it is actually pretty boring. First of all, all the teams have stupid names like "fragkillaz100" that makes them seem like idiots. Secondly, the specific multiplayer games they participate in are kinda boring to watch. They're so slow that they have to edit out a lot of the game time and just provide you with highlights. If they ever did a Street Fighter III or Guilty Gear battle I would be ecstatic, but I've never seen them do anything besides FPS or racing games. -
Re:Good
Maybe now G4 will be less based on re-runs.
Yes, I hope so. Nothing like watching X-Play only to find out it's Adam and Morgan letting you know when the PSP is going to be released. Reruns of review shows do not work very well at all.
I guess they are bringing back that Leo Laporte guy soon to do Call for Help. http://www.g4tv.com/callforhelp/index.html and Barbed Wire Biscuit looks pretty cool.
I do wish that would let people send in video auditions for the new host of Attack of the Show. Some of us don't live in New York or LA and we might make a good host. I'm here in the middle of Texas and didn't have the means to audition in person. Oh well, I'm going to have my wife apply to be the new fragdoll. At least they take email resumes. -
Re:A few days late...
That would make sense if it weren't on the ballot this year.

Re:It's about time!
Thanks for the idea. I think I'll go put out a mod for Barbie's Horse Adventures: Wild Horse Rescue now! According to the site (which requires cookies), it should get pulled from shelves just for being so very bad.

Don't mean to burst everyone's bubble but...
...remember when the news about a video game network came around?
