Well, I propose that mankind evolved its complex sense of language in reponse to an instinct to complain^W gossip. And then there's His Steveness (no, not Steve Irwin).

Re:Apple has been a leader in addressing this prob
(Side note: the reason why the iSight demos in Apple keynote addresses look so darn good is that the participants are looking at the iSight camera, and not at the actual screen when they're doing the demo. It's a very subtle shift, but it still matters. Kind of a clever, sneaky way to make the product look even better than it actually does.)
Could be they're using a SightFlex to position the camera better. -

I'm amazed the Mac Heads are still agonizing!I'm amazed the Mac heads are still agonizing over their "betrayal". Perhaps Apple will learn its lesson and not spend millions of dollars running televion spots with specious arguments about why Apple's "better".
I remember a few years ago at an Apple user group meeting here in Cupertino, CA. I asked someone if he every tried Photoshop on Windows. "EEEEW! Intel" he screeched. "It's thegmented! Everything is tho thlow." (The lisp was a result of a tongue piercing.)
So here was a computer user who should only care about ultimate usability of a system (something Apple may have been better at!) who was "brainwashed" by the Apple crowd into reciting silly half-truths about Intel whenever the subject came up. Face it, a CPU that only has an XOR and JNZ instruction and dealt in 64K memory blocks would work just fine if it ran fast enough. How the CPU works is of no concern to someone who just runs Photoshop all day long....

Dell Laptop Stampede - to the dumpsters...
In a related story, thousands of Dell laptop users were caught in a stampede to dump their Dells into the local Dumpsters.
"It was out of control, the blue screens, the worms and virus programs - to the dumpster they go before the next massive planet wide outbreak of malware and spyware shut down our school."
More enlightened users logged onto the Apple School Discount Store, and bought new iBooks at a discount for low monthy payments.
"Using the online School Apple Store sure beats pissing on yourself while getting batted in the head with a chair while running from some dude plowing through the crowd in a car."
- Buying a Mac Mini is a much better deal than live action 'Mortal Kombat!' for iBooks.
Currently $579.00 or $679.00 for the Mac Mini with the DVD burner drive... $479.00 for the cheapest Mac Mini with the 40GB HD.

Re:Well...wow. way to kill a decent joke on slashdot.
aw, c'mon, it's not like it was that good to begin with, or it'd have been harder to kill. The truth is way, way, more humorous.
something that is getting more rare by the day (a good joke that is, not the incessant pedantry)
wow! You want to discourage pedantry!?! This is slashdot, where did you think you were again?!?
Besides, I didn't kill the joke, I just flipped it. It's those Intel guys who like big bear hugs, see? Ah, never mind, look what an idiot I am, wasting time on ACs...

Re:bout fricking time...
The black powerbooks are arguably the most upgradeable laptops ever built. The wallstreet, with its dual cardbus bays and dual media bays, was exceptional. I ugpraded mine to a g3/500 which not only increased CPU speed by 66% but also almost doubled battery life. A CD burner was another nice ugprade for it. (I think they have superdrives for them now?) I don't know if the G4 upgrade works with the wallstreet, but I've recently seen a "G4 pismo", upgraded something like this:
http://www.geekculture.com/blurbs/reviews/XLR8G4Pi smo.html
Not only is that G4/550, but check out the memory. It's not a new laptop, but it's still not too shabby.
Upgrading a PC, you usually replace the CPU, the logic board, power supply, memory, and the optical drive. That means you're keeping... the case? heh, what's the point? -

Re:So what is a good ragchew site these days?
I'd suggest visiting forums where you find people with shared interests. The key is to find someplace big enough that it won't die out, but not so huge that you can't get to know people.
The Geek Culture forums are pretty good, if skewed toward Mac and Linux fans, and there's a Slashbox option. CNet's Builder Buzz community was great back in the day and is still pretty good in its user-created reincarnation, Hiveminds. If you've got a favorite TV show (or one you love to hate), check out the smaller show forums on Television Without Pity. -
Re:Cat Got Your Tounge?
They need just enough cats to make it to version 11, where they can easily drop the naming convention without criticism from stylistically obsessive-compulsive users like us, but in case Apple insists on keeping this up
....
They still have ocelot, puma, lion, leopard, asian leopard, mountain lion, white tiger, etc.
Once they run out of big-cats they could refer to several million years-worth of prehistoric super-big cats.
Sabertooth-tigers have ancestors and decedents.
By that time we can only hope that a mad-scientist would have created a diverse army of genetically-engineered-uber-cats, from which there would be enough species to temporarily satisfy Apple's cat-naming fetish.
Assuming that the world's combined armies can successfully vanquish the UberCat-Army, apple will need more cats. If animal-rights become slack enough, they might consider performing the Schrödinger's cat experiment to create quantum cats.
Eventually they'll be forced to use fictitious cats, such as: Mac OS Pink Panther .
Anything to avoid the marketing-department's nightmare of: Mac OS: Pussy -
