Re:first on the list
Um,

Guy in Bar: See, there's three kinds of people: dicks, pussies, and assholes. Pussies think everyone can get along, and dicks just want to fuck all the time without thinking it through. But then you got your assholes, Chuck. And all the assholes want us to shit all over everything! So, pussies may get mad at dicks once in a while, because pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes, Chuck. And if they didn't fuck the assholes, you know what you'd get? You'd get your dick and your pussy all covered in shit!

and they might even edit some of the original content to "sanitize" it
I don't think Disney "sanitizes" anything except movies released under the Disney label and rated G.
Touchstone, Miramax, and Hollywood Pictures all made R-rated films, and Disney has released movies under their own label with PG-13 ratings for sexual content, such as Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Likewise, I'm fairly sure you would have heard from Joss Whedon about "The Avengers" being sanitized if that were the case.

On the positive side, we don't have to watch it.

As long as they can clone our leader from his nose, who cares if they can engineer this (see 1973's sleeper http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070707/ ). In case my country's secret services are listening, that was an attempt at a joke,

Re:What about censorship?
Trilogy of terror 2 is from 1996, the one I saw was in the mid to late 70s, so unless i have the ability to see the future it simply can't be that movie. The dead of night had the SAME story, only difference is I believe the child is named Timmy in that one, but as you can see here its the same story, complete with mother called son back from grave. In fact i think the picture on the box is the kid as he is starting to change, although from what I remember with each flash of lightning he becomes more and more demonic until he reaches the mother, truly fucking scary.

What that you say?
If everyone paid, or worse, if we got the average designer, we'd probably get bulky devices that look like something out of Terry Gilliam's Brazil.
I wonder what Johnny Ives would design?
I bet it would be something that looks remarkably like the latest Apple earphones, with some external reception membranes, a built-in battery and 20-20kHz amplifiers and a pair of sound production membranes. (It would also be remote tailorable/controllable via your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch.)
Price $129.00 a pair.

two counter-points
I present two points that indicate people are noticeably dumber today than in the past (without precisely defining how far back the past is).
First, consider an entrance exam (http://graphics8.nytimes.com/packages/pdf/education/harvardexam.pdf) to Harvard. The document is dated 1899. Take this exam then draw your own conclusions.
Second, the overwhelming amount of entertainment that is available 7x24 from an explosion of different types of devices sadly means that many, many more people have become consumers and many, many fewer people are producing content of any form (and by "any form" I mean, especially, knowledge and not simply entertainment).
I attribute the dumbing down of America to two main causes: greed (corporations want to sell you endless numbers of devices and all the entertainment you can afford, then when new technologies arise, sell you the same content numerous times (CD, DVD, Blu-ray, etc.)) and laziness (it's easier to consume mindless entertainment than to learn something new on your own).
Many people thought Idiocracy (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/) was hilarious. I found it a disturbingly possible paradigm of the future.
On a related note, I also find it disturbing that in spite of our spending hundreds of billions of dollars annually on education, today's students in America consistently place poorly among major industrialized nations. Citation: punch "worldwide rankings of students" into google (omitting quotes) and read some of the 84+ million hits. -

The same as any other arrogance
This is exactly the same as anyone else's arrogance. You're very good at something, so people who aren't as good at that thing seem inferior. But as other commenters have said, I'm sure that as you get older you'll run into more and more people who are much better than you in this field. You'll also run into people who are just as good in some other field as you are in this field, while you completely suck in their field just like they suck in your field. Everyone is a genius in some field(s) and an idiot in other(s).
The key is to remember that both of you have strengths and weaknesses. If you don't want them to be an arrogant prick to you when their field is involved, don't be an arrogant prick to them when your field is involved.
P.S. The Big Bang Theory is pretty good for a major network sitcom. It does a good job of capturing the different mentalities of "geeks" vs. "normal people". Sheldon Cooper is an extreme exaggeration of the geek with a superiority complex. He's always condescending to his friends, even though they have doctorates in astrophysics and similar. He acts especially superior to the one who only has a Master's from MIT. However, even his geeky friends realize that his behavior in normal social situations is severely lacking. Sheldon is also taught the lesson that there's always someone better when Stephen Hawking points out a simple arithmetic error he made early on, completely invalidating all of his conclusions. In one episode, another character has to study up on the game of football, so that he can go to his girlfriend's party and attempt to fit in. He sounded just as moronic to those people as these "inferior" people sound to you when talking about computers. To keep things in perspective, just keep in mind how much Sheldon seems like a jerk with his superiority complex, and realize that's exactly what you're doing on a smaller scale.

Re:Chinese Edition
A useless (and homophobic) response to an informative comment. Well done.
I assure you I'm not afraid of homosexuals... What I do fear is that humans may be well on their way to Idiocracy.
My fears were justified by the GGP's informative comment, which is remarkably similar to certain scenes in that movie...I'd "woosh" you, and the down-modder, but I was rather tactless, I can see how the reference would be easily missed (it wasn't a very good one) -- I blame my inability to give a damn about being P.C. or my slashdot comments. Also note: Just because someone says Fag, doesn't mean they're a homophobic. It's similar to how I can say "Nigger" without being racist.

Re:Been there, done that..
That's a very interesting summary of the video game scene from Never Say Never Again. There was a skill element, not just the enduring pain part.
Not exactly an "early" James Bond movie IMHO, but that's a mere quibble.
By the way, as a clueless teenager I thought Roger Moore was the best James Bond. Watching Never Say Never Again instantly converted me to a Sean Connery fan.

Nobody messes with the Ministry of Public Welfare!
Using repurposed military robotics and AI, create an unstoppable geriatric-mecha-juggernaut with the voice and personality of your deceased grandmother, who will then carve a swath of destruction through the city as it takes Grandpa on a trip to the beach. Or at least, that's what Anime tells me you should do.

I have a "gut" instinct that as long as humans are alive (yes, if we find a way to leave our bodies behind this isn't true), flora will survive....

Re:Now if only they hadn't banned Huawei
The traditional place has always been cryptome.org. Please note that that's the place where early Wikileaks leaks were leaked giving some of us an insight into the possibility that Wikilieaks would turn out to be less than fully competent. The question you should ask yourself is a) how do I get it there safely (the same applies to Wikileaks drop of points) and anonymously b) how do I make sure there isn't a water mark or some other code which makes the information traceable to me or someone close to me.
As far as "blow up in your face" goes, if you are relying on Wikileaks to secure yourself then you are demented. You need to make sure that any leak you do is absolutely untraceable, especially by the site that you leak through. God knows how you do that. Unsecured WiFi? Freenet + Tor? Some distant internet cafe whilst travelling in disguise by bus (to avoid license plate recognition). Whatever; keep it simple; involve the minimum number of people (that should mean one - yourself). Now that's what "inquiring minds" really want to know. The google searches around this are remarkably and interestingly useless. If you are planning to leak material then I wouldn't bother trying them
:-) Remember "the issue is whether you are paranoid enough". -

Re:Genetic diversity...
...perhaps the culture also is somewhat genetics based?I'll bet you a dollar that it's not
Humor aside, it's pretty easy to see what would really happen in this scenario. First off, the panhandler would take a paycut. Then, the poor financial skills (more extreme than these) that made him homeless would make him terrible at his job.
It's a common misconception that the homeless are poor because of low income. Some are disabled or suffer severe mental illness, but most are not (or at least that's not why they beg). Substance abuse is the most common problem. They can't hold a job, and need vast amounts of money to fuel their drug/alcohol habit.

so next up, banning for anything else that kicks up the insurance a notch.had a heart attack? don't apply. high risk sports? forget about it. maybe they should have instead asked for the employee to pony up the extras for the health insurance.
