Re:First I've Heard About This Kid
Check out the Matrix version (http://www.jedimaster.net/matrix_agents.htm). The Star Wars Kid (http://www.nndb.com/people/441/000031348/) ought to give some of the settlement to whomever made that video, as the SWK almost looks cool in it.
-
Eh...
If I was him, I'd have seriously cashed in on it. Honestly, people were laughing at him in good humour, not with disdain. He just feels fat, ugly, and underachieving; therefore has really shitty self-esteem, so he doesn't have the sense to realize it's actually working for him. In any case, he did make other people some money, http://www.jedimaster.net/ anyone?

SWK
Just pose the question to world renowned Jedi expert SWK http://www.jedimaster.net/ As you may already know, he knows everything Jedi, including the delicate art of saber handling, design and manipulation.

Re:Faith in numbers
A million monkeys will tell their friends "hey look at my cool video"
If it *is* cool, they will tell their friends
And before you know it you will have another Star Wars Kid
There are many short film festivals arounf the world that already accept public submissions, the panel does the job of the friends and apply their critcal talents to the submissions, here's the one I work on.
We've had quite a few success stories (Shame Meadows, Chris Cooke to name two) through our doors that were not part of the "film industry" for their first submission.
We are all very excited about the next phase of film-making.
Get your DV Cams out and get taping! -
Was expecting more...
The images were just kind of... blah. Just the name Quark sounds somewhat exotic and these pictures are anything but. It looks about like something I would have made years ago when I was first learning 3d Studio Max. Is this really what quarks and photons are supposed to 'look' like or what?
Maybe it was a case like this gem where some phycist was making a joke out of a colleague's poor artistic skills... -
International Move Like a Ninja Day - YES!
"What would it be, International Move Like a Ninja Day?"Yes! I'd give up my 401k to see everyone around my office move like a ninja for a day! Well OK, they'd all end up looking like the Star Wars kid but somehow that would make it even better.
Watching the tense action around the box of meeting donuts alone would be worth it.

It's a lightsaber.
More or less. Nintendo has already won this round of the console wars: every Star Wars fan will buy this system, because when the Star Wars game that lets you fight with lightsabers comes out for the Revolution, our living rooms are all going to look like this: this guy

Re:The Force is *retarded* with this one...
Did a jedi hit you as a kid?
Perhaps he was hit by the Star Wars Kid. -
Mod Parent Up!After watching that clip and thinking about myself and my geeky friends - it takes some courage to support your obsession by dressing in character and putting up with stares and criticism from others. It's amazing how one's individuality can be so uncomfortable to others.
Examples:
The moral of the story - everyone can "geek out" about something, but it takes a true nerd to do it in public.

It's all in the budget
This thing is merely a bigger budget version of this classical moment of the web. If this guy would have had half their budget he would have done great things
;) , cause I'll side with the rest on acting quality; amateur film, amateur actors, it was predictable but it is still disturbing to see geeks playing on screen wath they've been practicing in their bedrooms for years...
Although I would like to congratulate them on bringing us the first Star-Wars where women aren't a prize or a decoration... -
Re:Content?
Channel 1: The Homestar Channel. Channel 2: The Weebl and Bob channel. Channel 3 will be dedicated to various Star Wars Kid videos. Don't forget you have a couple thousand channels of porn...

Re:incestuous world of online writingJust as only a small percentage can write effectively, an even smaller percentage can present video effectively. Writing requires storytelling skills. Video requires storytelling, as well as camera skills.
"Home movies" have been around for decades. Have you ever watched someone elses without cringing? I don't care what you call it...videoblogging, PhoneCamVideo, MyVideoLife...its still a home movie, and almost always crap. Unless there is a lot of taut skin involved. Or something very, very humorous (and probably degrading to the subject)

Star Wars Kid
Evidently the author of the article isn't aware of how desired the Star Wars Kid is...

One Man Star Wars - Like the SWK?
Is this similar to the Star Wars Kid?
LMAO, love this guy. -
Re:Huh?
Star Wars Kid feels admiration.

Re:Ninja Style
You are Ghyslain aren't you?
-
A better idea...
I could do without a star wars TV show. I would be much more interested in a show starring "The Star Wars Kid".
-
Turkish movies
Saying this is representative of Turkish cinema is like saying the Star Wars Kid is a good example of Canadian acting skill.
Turkey has some good filmmakers. I recommend Yol and Vizontele. -
What I want to know is...
will Ghyslain be in it?
-
Starwars Kid
I hope to God that the Star Wars Kid will come back for one more performance!
Swing that saber flabby! -
Star Wars Kid?
I wonder if the Star Wars Kid will make it in this movie?
-
Re:Internet voting
In unrelated news, the Star Wars kid is voted to the Senate. Pledges to destroy former friends. -
where the hell have you been?
Why is Jared from Subway a celebrity and this kidisn't?
Did you miss the last two or so years, or are you just really lazy about updating your sig? -
The advantage is in the forking...
Why would 'Open Source Movie Making' automatically be better than Hollywood's current trend of designing by committe?
Because in Hollywood, only one entity can "own" the title, and as such, only one "official" version can be released. (ignoring for the moment, director's cuts, edits for television, restorations for DVDs, etc.) In such a collaborative process, everybody thrashes it out until there's consensus - or until someone in charge puts their foot down.
In an open source environment, everybody thrashes it out until there's consensus - or until somebody decides to fork. Even better, you can get people who use the project as a springboard to something totally different. A cast and crew doing an "open source" movie might conceivably spawn dozens of movies and shorts, from all sorts of genres, just based on the same actors and footage.
If you don't believe me, take a look at the shorts spawned from the footage of the star wars kid. And this was just based on some joke footage. Imagine what you could piece together if you had some input into what to shoot? Along those same lines, Roger Corman (the B movie king) made a career out of reusing footage other people had tossed (or reusing footage that he and his crew had shot from other movies). You probably won't get Academy Award material out of it, but then again, the big movie studios spend millions of dollars a year to deliver crap... -
Matrix Any different than SWK?
Seriously now. Apart for "production values" is there really any difference between two fat old man pretending to be in a Sci-Fi movie and a little kid pretending to be in a Sci-Fi? The one lesson to be learned, perhaps, is that nerd never disappear, they just grow older.

Video Game animation
"I'm sad that Machinima isn't as popular as I thought it would be by today... the one thing that worries me is that Machinima will be seen as a hobby and not taken seriously, and that very much annoys me." She also mentions: "We may open-source an academic version of [in-house movie tool] Machinimation in the very near future."
I agree with the author of this article. I've really enjoyed a lot of the video game animation I've seen from hobbiests and students. I'm a big fan of the Star Wars Kid and Homestar Runner. It's too bad that more people aren't aware of the students and hobbyists who make these highly entertaining shorts available to us, between classes and during time off from their real jobs. Perhaps with the release of the anemic version of their tool, more students and hobbyists will be able to create short works placed on obscure websites for our enjoyment. Who knows, maybe one day they will rival the likes of SpikeTV and The Outdoor Life network for our entertainment dollar. -
One man show?
His name wasn't Ghyslain was it?
-
ACTUALLY the IMPORTANT question is...
Did the Star Wars kid make it in?
I think the MORE IMPORTANT question is:
Which version of the Star Wars Kid will they digitize into the final release of the movie? -
Possible relevance ...Back in late July, I submitted (and had rejected) this story:
Possible "Star Wars Kid" cameo in SW3?
10:30 PM -- Friday July 25 2003WCityMike writes "One of Lucasfilm's official webcams caught the Lucasfilm crew watching the infamous "Star Wars Kid" video (who, coincidentally, just filed suit against the bullies at school who posted the video to the 'Net). Fourteen minutes into the feed, the crew held up a sign that said, "We Love Ghyslain. You Rock!! Jedi Kid." A moment later, she held up a sign that said, "Ghyslain 4 Episode 3? C'est possible, non?" Wouldn't it be hilarious if something originally intended to humiliate the kid instead landed him the role of his dreams? (Hey, if Lucas filmed N*SYNC in Clones
... ) -
Link to movies
Suprisingly, the actual link to the website containing the movies has been left out!
It would seem unfair to link straight to the movies, because the poor kid wont get his compensation money ;) -
Original & Clones
Here is a link to the original and a bunch of clones.

Wonder if the Star Wars Kid is eligible for this?

Add one more thing...
We need to add one more thing to Slashback: Everyone's favorite Star Wars Kid is suing the friends who posted his super killer loser video on the Kazaa network for $100,000. You can read the story here on BBC News.

Re:I'm going!
Well, we'll look you up if we have time. We'll be scoring with hot chicks while you'll be doing the Ghyslain on the dance floor.

The Star Wars Kids Videos
Here is the original and remix videos
of the kid. Pretty funny stuff.
I guess this will teach him to leave his tapes laying around. Good lesson to learn in case he actually gets out of puberty and starts taping his girlfriends.
