Re:Thanks for nothing, CNN...
That should be US and Canadian military command. You'd have a pretty hard time protecting all of North America without Canada's vigilance in the North, you know.
You can see from this photo that Canadian military command means business:

Re:Apple Maps directions will lead you into a moat
I've seen other map software fail in major ways too. Take Waze for example. I was having it direct me to a large baseball park where we had a game. There is a 4 lane highway that passes over the park on a very long bridge. Waze took me onto that highway and at the point when we were crossing over the park on the bridge it said I had arrived. That was a pretty epic failure.

Re:It isn't the BT 5 that Counts, it's the AAC
According to Apple's documentation they seem to be using AAC at 256kb/sec. That's considerably lower than aptX at around 360kb/sec.
Of course you can argue over which sounds better but since most headphones don't support AAC it's really more of a choice of do you want shitty Beats/Earpods, or do you want some good headphones in which case the lack of aptX support in iOS is a bit of a problem.
ORLY? Amazon would beg to differ:
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=n...
and for the headphones:
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=s...
That took all of about 10 seconds, including typing in the amazon url and the search-term.

Indeed. Anatomy of a bubble

There is _no_ oversight. The US government did NOT create the Cryptocurrencies "coins" -- the have ZERO authority to tax them. Bitcoins are private property. PERIOD.
The IRS doesn't tax my World of Warcraft gold either -- because they don't own it.

Yes, because everyone wants to eat a couple of crackers, a piece of cauliflower and a few slices of meat. Which is considered a complete lunch under the Obama nutrition standards. I don't know about you, but when I was in school I would have been hungry again in about 45 minutes with that little food.

Re: Nope
Is it really that expensive? I know some people who had run a small startup automaker that raised 30-something million. They were about 3 months out from first commercial deliveries (having made a couple dozen prototypes to various degrees, ranging from empty shells to full builds), with about $10m still left in the bank - when the board decided to bring on a guy from Detroit (Paul Wilbur, the guy responsible for the Chevy SSR, and a bunch of other train-wrecks-in-car-form), who then proceeded to run the company into the ground.
Are aircraft that much more expensive than cars, that you can't even build a demonstrator for that kind of money? To be fair, the automaker's vehicle was technically classified as a motorcycle, so their regulations weren't as onerous as for most cars (but they still did full crash and crush tests anyway, voluntarily). But, I mean, they just churned out prototypes one after the next.

Re:Hillary did not lose because of fake news
You've got to be kidding me. The media were colluding with her campaign, they weren't reporting anything!
1. Lying: Benghazi was a spontaneous protest caused by a youtube video. Proof: See Wikileaks, she knew the night of the attack that it was a terrorist attack.
2. Unscrupulous: When Bill Clinton was done his 2nd term, the Clintons took over $100,000 worth of White House furniture and decor. They were forced to pay or return it.
3. Corrupt: Read Clinton Cash for a long list of examples.
4. Unlikable: See any of the likeability polls that were run in 2016 about Clinton. She's got the lowest numbers ever for a Democrat presidential candidate.
5. Arrogant: See the video she gave where she wondered how she wasn't up by 50 points over Trump.
6. Harpy: harpy image 1, harpy image 2, harpy image 3. The fact is, there are numerous accounts of her throwing huge tantrums when anything doesn't go her way. Cursing and swearing, throwing objects, smashing things, firing people. She's just a horrible person.
7. Only Accomplishment is marrying Bill: Hard to prove this one either way. She has zero accomplishments before marrying him. Would she have been elected as a Senator if she wasn't the wife of a former President? Impossible to say for sure, but probably not. -

I think you're being disingenuous. We not only don't want someone picked on the basis of their skin color, we don't want "liberal" justices, and we're not going to fall for this bait-and-switch.
And did a quick skim through his Wikipedia entry and nope, I don't want Merrick Garland either, I don't care if he's black, white, green, or plaid. Go find someone who judges per the Constitution, not from the regulatory POV.

3 consoles = XBOX, PS4, Wii U.
The graphic isn't clipped for me (I'm using Firefox 44.0.2). The axis is labeled from 2009 to 2018. Here is the raw image if you want to look at it that way. Your confusion probably stems from not seeing the axis. The graph shows both historical data and projected data. Since the discussion is about the historical data, you can debate if the future predictions are "made up" or not, but it makes no difference to the point at hand. The AC I replied to was saying that PC gaming is dying, which didn't match my experience. So I found this chart to see who was right. -

There's nothing wrong with different colours. Most European currencies have different colours, and they don't tarnish like the Sacajawea dollar does.
Odd-number polygons are better, so the coins can have constant diameter. That's easier for a vending machine to detect.
Changing the metal can be useful for more valuable coins. The £1 coin is quite thick, and makes a satisfying "clunk" if you tap it on wood, which the "copper" [plated steel] 1p and 2p don't.

You can't pin items correctly.
You can't pin items to the main list directly above the start menu, like you could in 95, 98, Me, 2k, NT, XP and 7.
Like so. Notice how the user has grouped similar items together.
This image seems to be of the technical preview of 10, but you can't have it like this any more.
This is the final Start Menu in 10.
You can't get rid of Places, the contents of the Most Used are completely beyond your control: you can't manually add items or reorder them, so if you had a palette of tools you had arranged in a nice order in any other Windows, you can't have that any more.
You can pin icons to the right pane by dragging it out and selecting Pin to Start Menu on them, but they have seriously ugly Modern/Metro boxes behind them. The All Programs (now called "All apps" because Metro apps and programs obviously don't require any kind of distinction RIGHT.) has a similar cascading to the Windows 7 Start menu but the icons all have the block coloured square background behind them, which makes some icons difficult to identify, the spacing between items is greatly increased which makes managing large Start Menus difficult.
In 95 you could completely customise the font used to display the start menu items and their size, and thus have a very dense menu if you wished.
In XP and 7 you could at least add and reorder them as you wished. -

Re:c'mon
How sick in the head do they have to be to want to satisfy their sexual needs without submitting to a long process of jumping through hoops for the potential for sexual gratification?
Bingo.
This is the real reason many feminist wish to either control or eliminate porn. It's not enough to protect themselves, they want to control men's sexuality and manipulate it to their own end.
The great thing about being a man over 35 or so is that you can be honest with many in your close circle of friends about such things. I'm in my 40s, educated, make a good living, had been married once for fifteen years and have no kids. I've been told by numerous female friends (many of whom I've either dated or they've *tried* to date me) that I'm a 'catch'. Then they get really indignant that I'm not currently going out with anybody, to which I've replied 'why should I put up with the demands of a woman in a relationship when five minutes of porn and five minutes of alone time with my hand will do the trick?'
No joke: they hate it. I'd rather be hanging out with my dogs, rebuilding an engine for my project car, writing code, or rehabbing another house than sacrifice valuable time playing their games.

Re:Hollywood is mentally bankrupt
Seems like they're not even trying anymore.
Oh, they're trying alright, but how many ideas for movies can there even be? By the time I was 6 (I'm from the 70's) I knew that eventually movies wouldn't be a thing as they once were. I figured that one day movies and games would merge. When I first saw that game "Dragon's Lair" I thought it'd begun. I was obviously wrong.
It seems like people take movies less seriously than they used to, and there really aren't that many ideas for movies that'd be very interesting. The result is that movies are stuck either trying to please the older crowd with sequels/prequels (where's "E.T. 2"), or will end up being about something that takes so much consideration that the movie isn't fun to watch ("Primer" anyone?). -

Re:American Exceptionalism and Moral Superiority
Basic math. It's like complaining that your friend takes out a bigger loan than you, but you neglect to mention that he also has a bigger salary.
No it's not basic math. It's deficit economy spending on an over inflated fiat currency system. It doesn't work. It never has worked historically and we are headed for the same repetitive bullshit because of idiot/delusional thinkers working on the same vein of semantics which have dreamed up this fantastic kaizen system which (like many) you've bought into.
Here is a little graph to wrap your head around.
Your debt has a little thing called interest which augments the overall value and preserves it's debasement. Your income DOES NOT you must rely on the things like CPI to keep your overall value on par with the debasement of the value of the dollar.
You do remember what a bank note actually means don't you? It's supposed to represent an IOU. Now it represents an IOU with a "shelf life" of value.

Wrong Direction.
Since I will not pay to see the paperI looked up maps of magnetic pole shifts. They all looked like this one. Since the turn of the century the North Pole has been moving toward Russia and is still going in a straight line. The article talks about a course change in 2005 but that is not shown on the map. Why is their information so different than the information available to the public?
The second point is that there are only 400 years of data to look at. We have no idea if this kind of change in the speed and direction of polar shift is a common occurrence and this time just happens to correlate with ice loss. Notice the major shifts in direction in 1700 and 1850? I don't remember any reports of major ice loss around either of those times. So why did the direction shift so drastically? This points to the shifts be more random that the authors of the paper believe. Correlation is not necessarily causation.
This looks like another study by climate scientists who look at changes in the earth and then look for a way to link them to global warming. By not looking at alternative explanation they are decreasing the validity of their study. To me, suspect studies like this do not strengthen the global warming case but weakens it as I am always suspicious about theories supported by suspicious science.
