Re:"Untraditional moves?"
I've seen the game, and it really does have some new and unique mechanics.
For example, you start the game with a full Nihilism bar. Your bar drains by observing the pointlessness of the game and the honor of futile struggle. Once the Nihilism bar is fully empty, you become the dreaded Uberman. Your character no longer cares if he takes damage or not, and becomes highly motivated by his sheer superiority.
You win the game because your opponent secretly wants you to win the game. However, this victory can be countered by the Dread Scourge of Christianity (which you can learn from the local moneylender), which will cause your opponent to simply want everyone to lose.
There are other great moves in the game. There's the dreaded cafe attack, which will cause all of the other characters to beat up on the one with the most popularity. There's the dreaded Nirvana attack, which burns an infinite loop into the eprom of the PS2. There's the dreaded condemned to death move, which can be inflicted upon your own character and which will cause him to actually care about living. Come to think of it, there are quite a few moves that can be done against yourself, and a lot of dread. There's also lots of shouting in German. I'm not sure why it is in German, as Fight Club was made in Los Angeles, but there it is.
The manual is mostly written in redundant, repetitive phrases that repeat but enjoin more truth in seeking without soaring into the void of generality which deprives all thinking of death... A radical thinking frozen in time that turns to what is actual while first insisting bluntly on establishing the actual truth which today gives us a measure and a stand against the confusion of opinions and reckonings. There is also a move list, and a cute comic written by Penny Arcade.
Overall the game is a vacuous, empty hole of truth, an infinite pit of depth. Should you buy this game? Eh.

Re:Admit defeat
why can't you just do the nice thing and say "Good Job guys keep it up!" instead of "crap we better get our arses in gear before the japs send their robots to control us"
Because it's SONY.
If Japanese or American government researchers or universities build a robot that can run, the logical reaction is to think, "Wow, that is truly a step forward for mankind."
If Sony or Time-Warner builds a robot that can run, the logical reaction is to think, "OH HOLY FUCK THEY'RE GOING TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD ROBOT DEATH ARMIES
WILL BE RUNNING AFTER US HIDE SOMEWHERE".
Anyway, you should be afraid. Robots that can walk and run means mankind has lost their only defense against the robots-- climbing up a rope. -
Penny-Arcade, anyone?
Heh, probably has something to do with penny-arcade.

"I do not need an iPod"Actually, I admit that I'm not much of a music fan. And if I was, I would be humming/whistling my own tune. Try it out sometime, you might like it.
If you really think you need to have music in year ears everywhere you go, try blowing $50 on an MP3-CD player first before you think about spending serious dough on a music device:

Something to consider.
THere's been an article or two about it n
/., but mp3 trading can be good for business. Three years ago, when Penny Arcade had a radio station, I heard a song by Matthew Good and went out and downloaded about 20 of his songs. This was over the period of a week or so and in 3-5 song increments. After that, I went out and over another period of time bought almost every single one of his CDs. Sure, I had a burner but it's not the same quality. I've since quit file sharing (unless you're my friend and you know how to use scp) and for that matter, I've quit purchasing CDs. Anecdotal evidence but I'm very aware I'm not the only one that's done this. It's not a "thief's ethic" it's good common sense. -

It's the new Customer Service Droids. In all seriousness, that comic is 100% true. I was yelled at by a lady from Customer Service, I had to move the phone away from my ear because of how loud she got.

Re:A small observation
Watching movies, watching TV, and reading comic books were once looked down upon as deeply as playing games is today. In fact, all visceral escapist entertainment seems to start that way... from radio shows to tango.
From what I've seen, this won't change until the generations change. A group of people who grew up on videogames will necessarily have a different perception of the situation than a person to whom videogames were what "kids do." Of course, we need to draw more girls into the fold if we want to make that transition happen faster.
All we can do is continue to make the best, most enjoyable games possible. Tarzan was once considered pulp, just as Pac Man was. Fighting bad perceptions is important too, but in perspective one more Myst would do a lot more than any number of screaming developers to change public opinion. 20 years from now, we will probably be debating the social ramafications of Dune 2, and everyone will have "always" loved good games.
Insert obligatory Penny Arcade link.

Re:Another Canon GameJust so you know, you're most definitely not the only one who feels this way.
Gabe, of Penny Arcade, covered this about a week ago in their news section (fourth post down, second of Gabe's).
Having new games in unestablished territory would be great. Come to think of it, any games set in timeframes not covered by the movies could be extremely cool. Look at KOTOR. The developers were bound by some basic Star Wars rules, but they didn't have to worry about fitting the storyline into a movie's plot. Not having story constraints almost definitely made the game a better one. It's not a very fair comparison, but...
The Episode I Game = Crappy game
KOTOR = Great game
There's definitely support for games outside of the movie timeframe, but we'll have to wait. Look at how long it's taken to get the original trilogy on DVD.
The way things look right now, it seems like we'll get some non-canon Star Wars games...in 2008.

What I want in a tablet PC
What I'm wondering is why no one has thought to market tablet PCs to artists yet. Alias makes some fantastic tablet art software, but none of the hardware manufacturers seem to get it. Whose needs are better fulfilled by a tablet PC than an artist? As an artist myself, I'd love to be able to draw directly into my computer rather than having to scan and clean up my drawings. Yes, I have a Wacom tablet, but I really need to be able to see what I'm drawing as I'm drawing it. Gabe, from Penny Arcade got one for exactly this reason.
What I'm hoping is that Apple realises this, they have a long history with artists and designers, and designs a tablet from the ground up with artists in mind (I'm thinking a convertable design, built like an iBook for durability, contoured so it's easy to hold). I also think the OS X gui is damn near perfect for touch screen navigation, or better than XP in any case.
Oh well, just one of the many things that has been on my "I hope someone makes this some day" list for some time.

PA recommends it
I've never tried those services but I do know that PennyArcade recommends it (scroll a little down to read Gabe's post about it). Considering how many games they play and how they like to complain about shitty service it must be a testament to Gamefly's reliability that they haven't bashed it yet.

That's only relevent if you actually link to the strip. Really, if you're already putting <tt> tags around the URL, would an <a href> be that hard?
