Nipple-aversion
Free Speech from the American perspective isn't a universal perspective. It is unique to our circumstance and our history. The EU has Free Speech but the details are a little different and that is fine in principle.
And we tend to be a little bit less nipple-averse than the US.
Our concept of Free Speech vs Censorship doesn't in any way go nut whenever there's a little bit of flesh shown somewhere (*).
Nudity isn't a reason to kick-ban you from European media, because of "Think of the Children" and "OMG! Femal Anatomy ! Run for your lives !".Indeed, based on past history, each side of the Atlantic pond has a slightly different approach on the Free Speech vs Censorship scale.
We can quibble over the details of where the line on free speech should be but you have to address how you plan to control hate groups if you let their rhetoric flow freely.
There are also other very valid trends in Europe that try instead to instil a little bit of critical thinking when exposed to bullshit on internet.
(This specific youtube channel deals more about fakenews and conspiracy theories, but the general approach of teaching critical thinking is also applicable for anything else going on the internet).
So instead of blocking the rhetoric of hate groups, you try tackling the problem from the other side by making the people less receptive to the king of bullshit that goes online.(And by the way the channel names happens to have some unfortunate implication in the US, but in its native France it's just a quote from a known author)

Their agenda is showing...
... how feminism forced women to 'turn to the state as a surrogate husband.'"
Here at last is the agenda they've been pushing for decades made visible. By simultaneously keeping up the massive pressure on men to identify their own self worth with their job (not work, just the job) and shipping millions of jobs out of the country, these lunatics are conspiring to reduce the participation rate to the point that all women in the country have to leave the work force. Because naturally the men will be taking the remaining jobs, not women. Then women will be forced to cleave to their husbands, as is Right and Proper and Biblical. No more of this evil "independence" and "thought".
The fact that it's not happening that way, and women have been the majority of the work force for years and the gap is widening in favor of women is entirely lost on these idiots, but that doesn't stop them from pursuing their social agenda to destruction, because they have faith. They certainly don't need facts interfering.
It's a reflection of the similarly insane situation in China, where the combination of denigrating women and the One Child Policy has resulted in a massive disparity in numbers between the sexes. The current generation of Chinese are learning to value women, whether they like it or not, because there aren't any to be had. This attempt at social engineering in the US may result in similar upheaval. The US could end up being a female-dominated society, because women end up holding a substantial majority of jobs. And wouldn't that be entertaining.

My Nominations and Choices
1) Best overall web comic series of 2012. (Any web comic that produced content in 2012): Gunnerkrigg Court is a brilliant webcomic that has a compelling plot, interesting characters and art that has developed superbly since the comic's beginnings.
2) Funniest web comic of 2012. (This one represents the single funniest comic of any web comic series.): Evil Inc. got the most laughs out of me this year, even if a lot of the humour was a bit Dad-joke-ish. Runners up would include: Penny Arcade , XKCD , Scandinavia and the World and Overcompensating .
3) Best art in a web comic of 2012. (Web comic from 2012 with the most amazing art ever): Dresden Codak is, without any doubt, the repository of some of the most geekiest and beautiful artwork the web has ever seen. Runners up would include: Namesake , Lackadaisy Cats , Sore Thumbs and Avengelyne
4) Web comic that was most relevant to you in 2012: Real Life , because his adventures with Harper are roughly mirroring my adventures with my daughter Hailey.
Honorable Mentions (because they'd likely win categories if there were a couple more here): Bad Machinery (Best Story), Eerie Cuties (Best Black & White), Three Panel Soul (Best Drama) and Wapsi Square (Best Main Character), and Sinfest (Lifetime Achievement) among others.

Fun idea
There is an online comic called Sinfest that occasionally has "cartoon-to-calligraphy" transformations that are interesting.
If you go to the archive and search for "calligraphy", you can pull up all the relevant strips. They will make more sense if you're a regular reader. Also, I probably wouldn't suggest using these for kids, but if you were creative, you could probably come up with similar types of drawings on your own.

Re:We really need a slashvertisement section
I said most. I admit to a computer and an internet connection. I don't play commercial games, I haven't bought a DVD in years, my TV set from 1990 rests in the basement, I don't particularly "like" cell phones.
Even if I did like all those things you named, I can easily name plenty more that don't even cost a smile: -
- sitting in the sun,
- sitting in the rain,
- reading classic books,
- listening to music,
- playing a game of cards,
- talking to friends,
- talking to you,
- lushus nectareens,
- jumping up and down on my bed, and
- (drum roll...) long walks on the beach.
Really, though, I was trying to make a different point: My disapproval of our obsession over consuming distractions in the wider sense on a regular basis, and the general assumption that everything worth having costs money. I understand my value system might differ substantially from yours. Sorry for the guided idealism.
"He who never thinks of anything as 'mine' does not feel the lack of anything: he is never worried by a sense of loss."

Sinfest is also quite worthy. It's a spiritual (lol) successor of strips like Calvin & Hobbes and Bloom County. I've enjoyed Sinfest more than any other web or newspaper comic for years.

Everybody knows that cats have evolved to a level at which they obviously don't have to prove themselves anymore.
It's common knowledge that dogs have owners and that cats have servants... next to the fact that one always have to move the cat to get the best place in a given location.

Re:OT re: yer sig
Well, it looks like we've reached an impasse. I'll recap.
You say "atheism is the absence of religion" (as part of the setup for a funny tag, which I do appreciate).
I say "All the atheists I've met practice atheism as a religion" (because I find their non-negotiable base axioms to be indistinguishable from any other religious faith).
You say "Well that does not apply to me and I will accept no argument otherwise" (because you axiomatically define yourself as nonreligious).
I say "You just proved my point" (true given my axioms, false under yours).
You say "That's because you are a deluded, gullible wishful thinker" (true given your axioms, false given mine).
I think now is where we both say, "OK, you're wrong, but I hope that works out for you since you seem like an otherwise reasonable guy". :)
If we cannot accept each other's base axioms we cannot construct a mutually acceptable proof.
Incidentally, Buddhism and pantheism are extremely compatible. -

Re:This is evil
Indeed this could be the start of a slippery slope but there are certain ways to beat this system, such as putting the phone down and walking away.
Any kid could simply leave the phone in his/her bedroom and still sneak out the window while any surveillant parent using only this technology would only see the location of the phone instead of acting like actual parents and personally checking up on them once in a while.
There is a company called Digital Angel which is working on a product which is in essence an implantable GPS tracker that parents can place in their children. It is also described in certain circles as "The Mark of the Beast" because it is without exception the start of a slippery slope that as always starts out with the best of intentions.
On the surface it looks like every responsible parents dream come true because God forbid anything happen to my child (i.e. serious injury, lost in woods, kidnapping) the chances of recovery are greatly increased without the added cost of a wide search party. However underneath there are the obvious privacy issues (IMHO children are not afforded privacy) but thinking more long range, should the situation ever arise that the people would demand greater security in the wake of, for example a series of terror attacks and a viable and inexpensive solution would be to implant the rest of the population with such tags and authorities could easily track any terror suspects in order to prevent any future attacks, but any high school sci-fi writer could see ways that this technology could lead to stripping of all personal freedoms and anonymity and lead to total authoritative domination when the government knows where you are at all times.
Personally I don't see this cell phone as cause for panic...yet. Since this only tracks the location of the phone and if your child is anything like me, they'd forget and leave it at home all the time. Besides, popping the battery is an easy way to disable any cell phone, but I think it's important to keep a close eye on how this technology is used. -
Re:Finder!
What is NSFW about Finder? (This isn't a snarky comment; I honestly am unaware of what you are referring to.) I'll concede that I haven't read much of it, but to me it certainly doesn't scream "NSFW" at first glance.
I'll concede that Schlock is a fine comic if one enjoys a comedic twist on military SF, which, much to my surprise, I do. As long as we're recommending webcomics, my favourites are Scary Go Round and its precursor Bobbins, Sinfest, and dinosaur comics, though the latter is certainly pushing the envelopes of "webcomicness"(but that, of course, is part of what makes it so great). -
Getting a URL wrong in a public place embarresment
While this might not be in the direction of the article, getting a URL wrong can be equally as dangerous.
I was at a public access terminal in an airport. The terminal was set up so no new windows could be opened. Ever heard of the web comic Sinfest ? I read it daily. Did you know there is also a sinfest.org ? I got confused. Never have I had to close so many pop-up windows so quickly while also trying to click on the HOME button -

Although it's likely never to happen considering the author, Tatsuya Ishida, has been rejected 11 times by the syndicates. -
