Yes, apparently Office products are tons more feature-rich than their open-source equivalents....

"working on the Help Desk..."
Owwww, Ouch! I know what you mean, since during part of my "network engineer" stint at said company I filled in on the computer department help desk. Ever read http://www.userfriendly.org/ ? Mike the network engineer and Greg the helpdesk guy. Been there, done that!
Imagine being on the help desk at NASA, and getting a call from the Executive Office of the President because they aren't getting their email. That was an interesting time!

Re:Conservatives vs. liberals?
With the
.xxx TLD available, if even a minority of the plethora of porn sites take down their .com sites and register on .xxx, there's that much less chance of someone who doesn't want to see that accidentally stumbling across it, especially if .xxx TLD blocking was in place
I just do not see why any porn site would want to do that unless all are forced to do it (which would bring us back to field 1: who should be forced). The fewer sites there are under XXX, the less the motivation to go there and just there.
I also do not see how having a minority of porn sites go there and the rest stay in .com could help "protect the children" (whatever that should mean and however you imagine it working) even just a tiny bit.

Oblivion, you say, Mr. Ballmer?
Well if you use Gentoo already then you're a prime candidate for using BSD, because like BSD, Gentoo is following BSD down the path to oblivion.
Oblivion, you say? Your opinion comes from a trustworthy source, I'm sure.... -

Ufie and CMYK
How about this:
http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20060430That's a bit vague. However, it was actually being followed up on before that strip even hit the web. And among other pertinent things, Little CMS integration into Inkscape started shortly after Libre Graphics Meeting not too many weeks ago. Illiad hasn't covered any of the features he'd actually like for his workflow, but he has been asked.
As soon as the next release of Inkscape is done (starting any day now), then more CMS support will go in and also hit the UI. (So anyone who might want to use this, be sure to drop a note or some such).

Rebuttle
Well FYI. I do have a B.S. in Computer Science, and Minors In Mathmatics, and Music. I am the process of entering Grad School. I work as a W-2 (AKA Full Time) Sr. Consultant and I aid many of the worlds largest and or fastest growing companies in Software Archecture with specilization in human User Interface and gentle migration from older technologies to newer ones. I tend to make more then then many of the PDHs make. But what you are missing is that PHDs are very focused in one area and are not nessarly smarter then any one else, and I usually get fustrated when they flash their PHDs to make them feel like big men. Where they should stick to their area and leave me to my area. The reason why I often get pulled to do these low level tech jobs is because the guys with the PHD intimate people in thinking the problem is bigger then it should and they will need to talk to the top person about the problem, while "Lowly" Tech support could fix the problem themselves just as easilly, they feel that they are above simple Tech Support and if they have a problem it is only something that only the designer can fix. So they call me and explain the problem, having checked it on my end and find that it is working fine, I normally go to their work station and see how they did it, figuring they may have done something that I haven't tested before. Then to see that it was a simple network issue. Having wasted my client hundreds of dollars looing into the problem which could be placed elseware. A lot of people with PHDs are really cool, but there are the minority of people who think the PHD makes them supior to any non-phd, person really makes me sick. They have an example of that in the archives of User Friendly that gives an exadrated view of this.

Re:Wont they be suprised...Ohh...the patent offices do refuse patents sometimes. I better suggest a slight adjustment for the patent (board) game in today's User Friendly (e.g.: two 6's in a row gets you a refusal).
The game is really educational for your kids BTW (if you want them to make loads of money when they're older, or go insane).

Re:Sounds like a good day. . .
As the parent alludes, bustage from patches is precisely why our corporate network admins have disabled automatic updates via group policy.
They download the patches directly and install them on some test machines, and verify that the patches don't actually break anything critical to our business. They then push the patches out to the rest of the corporate network via a software update service. Usually this happens within just a couple of days after Patch Tuesday.
As a local system admin, the bottom line is that I don't usually need to call out sick to defend my sanity. (or what passes for my sanity).
For that, I have this on my door. (I'm close to winning.) -
Re:Although this seems "reasonable" in light of th
Now, if I want to design my site in such a way as to be friendly to my users (say, a flash based site... please, no comments about how friendly flash is.. lots of usres like it), but not friendly to google, why should a competitor with a crappier site get a higher rank?
Because they used open standards and you used proprietary crap? If you want to be accessible to users, follow the standards. If you don't give a shit about your users but just want to show off what a clever web designer you are, don't complain of Google doesn't give a shit about you.

Re:Nice deal
Don't worry, Big Media still wins at being "evil" (make sure to read the follow up comics, it's a series). Still, the news of Google censoring its search engine in china does seem to bring into question google's philosophy of not being evil (anyone else notice that the google cache always seems to have "66" as the first two digits of it's IP

You can find the real reason why RIAA think they are losing money. Blame the Apple iPod!
-
Depends on the pigs...
Ones like this?
-
Start with some basic terminology...
Like the difference between copy, download, and install. Far to many people say things like: "Give me the cd so that I can download the program onto my computer", or "I'm going to download these mp3s onto my player"
Or the difference between memory and disk space.
Although, for a lot of people, no amount of explaining is going to help. -

Can't remember where I saw it, but somebody was painting flies near the drain holes of urinals, to reduce spillage. Seems men tend to get more in the receptacle when they(we) have something to aim at. I know I'd be encouraged by something like this
