Re:Sounds like a solid business plan
A solid business plan indeed! Sell off Easy CD Creator, which is popular and profitable to concentrate on new Napster, which is going over like new Coke. Here's a little something for whoever came up with that idea.

Will it do any good...
While at first glance this may seem like a good thing (at least for MS), i'm left wondering whether it will actually do any good...the MVPs who gain this access seem to be part of a rather closed community, being voted to their status by a bunch of people from other peer microsoft communities/groups.
Take a look at the MVP FAQ: http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid =fh;EN-US;mvpfaqs
Although some might say that sharing the code out, even among a closed community, might conceivably lead to improvements, from MS's track record with their multifarious products (some of which had oodles of people involved), there is no palpable confidence (at least in my mind) that it will get any better.
And in any case, even though microsoft shares the code out to the MVPs, there is nothing in the article that states that the MVPs will be allowed to modify the code...rather, the article explicitly states that they will "help" the developers. So even if some sagacious MVP does somehow manage to make a tiny improvement (unlikely, i know, but let's just suppose it for the sake of argument), wanna bet that he'd probably have to move heaven and earth to get someone who counts at MS to recognize this?
Also, as someon posted earlier, there is a good chance of the code getting leaked, even if MS uses the strongarm tactics that it is capable of to get the leaks plugged as fast as possible. What would happen then would be anyone's guess...
Anyway, here a link to the Windows 2000 source code http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/text/source.php. (if it's been already posted elsewhere on this site, beg pardon, i did indeed search, so my search skills are lacking...)
Wow, just as i hit SUBMIT earlier slashdot went down...is the big M already guuning for /.? -
Do we really need all these comparisons? How many deathmatches do we have to have?
Mac user Vs. PC user
Linux Vs. Windows
RIAA Vs. Their own customers
SCO Vs. Undisclosed code
Ashcroft Vs. Terrorists
Dell Vs. Gateway
Bush Vs. Grammar
Amiga Vs. Dead Horse
Kerry Vs. A mirror
Slashdotter Vs. SoapThe list is nearly endless.
Here's a somewhat relavent link to something I saw on ABS.
No, I'm not affiliated with them... I just dig that stuff. -
Re:Vote Demoparty 2004!
No word on candidates yet.
Here are your candidates for Triumph the Insult Comic Dog's next visit with the Star War nerds; I found then by clicking on the fame link in the article.
Please note -- the goggles will not work if you view Gimli's love child with Arwen or The Nerd Kids On The Block-Street Boys (by sure to scroll down for the full horror on this one). -
turn my phone off
If spammers start messaging my phone, I'll just turn it off. If they want to interrupt my life like that, I don't need a phone. I'll call you. No thanks, I'll figure out another way to keep in touch with my friends.
And this reminds me about a funny political satire flash animation at albino black sheep, very on topic here I think: Taliban Takes on Telemarketers... -

Re:pareidoliaHere's a recent and very striking example of fitting data to preconceived notions: zepplin backwards (flash link).
As with all of these things, the trick is that you're shown the message while listening to it, and you tend to make it fit. It's even more convincing after a few listens -- it really sounds like, "There was a little toolshed where he made us suffer, sad Satan." Almost poetic.
So, rings? They have the scientific method backwards. If, say, a meterologist was looking through some satellite photos happened to notice some rings, that is one thing. But some dude looking for rings in satellite photos is totally different.

Re:Retard?Cower? Let's have an example, other than in WWII, when France was defeated along with half of the world.
As provided elsewhere in this thread, check this link.
As part of NATO, part of their $29.5B protects us. And again, who's safer?
Oh wow, France contributed $77.6 million to the NATO budget in 1998 compared to $453 million by the U.S. Canada contributed more than France even though it has a population almost half its size, Germany contributed almost 4 times more than France even though its population is only about 30% larger, Italy contributed more. Heck, Bill Gates could have contributed more to NATO than France. I'm so glad the French are out there helping with the common defense.

Re:Terminal
Search on google for 'french military victories'. Take the first link, then the link that leads to a list of defeats instead. That'll put you here. Granted, that's a list of defeats rather than of surrenders.

Re:Does anyone have the Klingon translation...
Reminds me of the Triumph the Insult Comic Dog lampooning all the Star Wars nerds. As a guy in an admittedly impressive Darth Vader costume talks to him, Triumph looks at his breathing apparatus and asks "Which one of these buttons phones your parents to come pick you up?"
Hilarious video is here. -
I can't believe this...While the implications of this treaty are truly frightening, the amazing thing about it is that it originated in Europe. Judging by all the anti-American trolls here on Slashdot, you would think that such legislation was only possible in a land corrupted by people like Jack Valenti and John Ashcroft. This treaty really goes a long way toward shattering my illusions of Europe as the land of the free and the home of the brave.

It does work if you type it correctly.
Just French Military Victories will suffice thank you.
What's really interesting about it is some of the less expected results.
From the top of the "french military defeats" link:
"(***Please note that the Web designer is not American and blaming the Web designer for America's history is illogical. Though you may critisize this oversimplified French history all you wish, blaming or threatening the Web designer is not nice.)" -- http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/text/france.html
That fact is, that all americans outside of limited american forums hear about that crap nearly constantly. Bitching from ass-clowns from other countries. Yes yes were all evil and it's all our fault whatever it was, and not only did your leaders and forefathers bear no responsability for what's transpired they were on the path to creating a Utopia that ran on dreams and starlight until nasty old US came along and keyed their car, shot their dog and stole their girl. -

Re:Correction...
It will never haul as many people as the A380. It will never have shops, real beds or things like that
Come back to me after the A380 has a proven safety record and actually makes money. Boeing still owns the mid-size aircraft market (does Airbus have an answer to the 767 or 777 yet?) and they will come out with something that blows the A380 out of the water. I'd stack American innovation against Europe any day of the week. We invented the airplane you know.
NY - LA in 2 hours for 10000$? You'd better order a dozen Concorde, they will always be full. By the way Concorde Paris - NY was always full and the companies were actually refusing customers.
I still maintain it wouldn't be economically feasible. Economics killed Concorde. Nothing else. This is an interesting article about the economics of the Concorde. Let me quote the most interesting section:
The governments of England and France underwrote the costs of building the 14 Concordes, which were then turned over to the two national airlines.
Here's another story that says pretty much the same thing:
The Concorde was designed when there was cheap fuel, 11 or 12 cents a gallon. Just after it started flying the early-70's OPEC crisis hit, and the economics never really worked after that," airline economics analyst Jim Craun of Eclat Consulting said. "It might have been profitable for a period, but it was only in the late 90s when everything was booming.
Branson originally had proposed buying the jets from BA for 1 each, the same price BA paid the British government for the jets originally.
Maybe your taxes wouldn't be so high if your governments didn't subsidize failed projects like the Concorde. They got to buy the planes for one pound? Must be nice. Maybe we should subsidize Delta, United, and American Airlines like that. Then again I suppose most of you have the luxury of doing that since you don't have to pay your full share of your own national defense like most countries do.
By the way your still ignoring the whole sonic boom problem. Would you be happy if you were woken up in the middle of the night by sonic booms? If it's such a good idea why aren't they using it for transcontinental flights over Europe? I'd be really interested to actually hear an answer on this problem other then you pointing the finger at me and saying "You banned it to kill Concorde".
You Europeans can be such fucking hypocrites it's disgusting. The German Green party opposes any use of nuclear power what so ever on the grounds that it's bad for the environment (hint: one coal power plant releases more radioactive fallout into the atmosphere then any hundred properly run nuclear plants do) but if we ban the usage of highly polluting supersonic airliners over our airspace because we don't want to deal with the noise pollution we're doing it just to kill the Concorde. Next you'll say that the CIA caused the Concorde crash in Paris.
Wrong, it's the US.
Oh take your anti-Americanism and shove it up the highest part of your Eurotrash ass. You'd be speaking German or Russian if it weren't for us. Your conveniently ignoring the fact that the Concorde was a wasteful polluting ozone-destroying piece of Government cheese and landing a cheap shot against the United States while you are it. What fantasy World do you live in?
P.S.: To any Eurotrash with mod points -- go ahead and mod me down. At least I have the guts to post this as non-AC -- more then I can say for 90% of the people that bash the US. Besides my fellow Americans will mod it back up. Bring it on I say!
P.P.S.: Here's a handy list of French military defeats going back to the time of Julius Ceaser.
