Re:other theories
I see that you matched my pedanticism of the word fact and raised me by the pedanticism of the use of the terms evolution and theory of evolution. I was using the two interchangably simply because evolution has been observed and for anyone to refute that is just silly. So I assumed that the grandparent to my first post was referring to the *theory* of evolution and not evolution itself, thus I used the two terms interchangably. If anyone wants a disclaimer in a science book that says evolution is just a theory then they might as well put a disclaimer in all geography books saying "Some people only theorize that the earth is not flat despite many observances of said phenomenon to the contrary."
That being said, I am still opposed to even a disclaimer about the *theory* of evolution, but certainly opposed to a disclaimer for evolution. I would be disappointed in the former, but give up hope on the latter. At that point I would start sending my kids to Strong Bad's School of Technology. They'd probably get more out of it then a science class that puts disclaimers on observations. -
Re:Meh.
When I think "independent game developer", lame little Flash-based games are what come to mind.

Re:And Yet
Well, wait until it's officially released? If http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/preed/2006/10/the_
a ntirelease.html (as of your posting) is still accurate, it says, for example, "I haven't finished posting the source tarball, for instance." Maybe if you're trying the preview release, though..
I'll just quote http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail100.html - Keep your pants on. For real. -

Wonders of the GIF.
In addition to flashing banner ads and stylish web sites, the Graphical Interchange Format has brough us another important wonder.
Imagine if we never had such a format. Would YTMND even be possible? We can only speculate, but I, for one, would like to thank Unisys for this valuable contribution. Afterall, 361,984—and growing—YTMND sites can't be wrong!

Re:Cheat or cheater
That depends on whether we are talking about The Cheat.

Wow..
I tried reading this, but the grammar center of my brain imploded. This would have been a far more intellegible interview had they actually interviewed The Cheat.

Merchandise
Here's a good example. 95% of their content is free on the internet -- 5% accounting for extra content on the DVDs and CDs. Never even had any ads on their site. And they make a healthy living off merch. They quit their day jobs on just T-shirts!
As people have said, no DRM doesn't mean everybody's going to throw a pirate party and that selling digital content is over. But there are even business models that allow for giving the content away. -

I would like to point out Dungeon Man 3. If you are a fan of old-school adventure games, this will provide some good laughs.

Good explanation
I never liked Babylon 5. Your explanation helps me to understnad why some people really like the show. It sounds like a good show based upon your description, and from all of the episodes I've seen I'd have to say you are correct. However, I still don't enjoy it at all. Can't really articulate why as well as the parent explained why it ws a good show. I guess as some troll mentioned the acting wasn't the greatest, but acting is rarely good in scifi and I still like many other shows with worse acting. Maybe, it was too complex for me. Perhaps, it was too much like a soap opera.
It had simular mood music. SciFi should have death metal -- ALL THE TIME. That would rock.

Flash websites aren't websites.
Yes, I said it: "Flash websites" aren't websites.
Flash is basically either used as an application, or an animation format.
If I put up an application as an
.EXE (or whatever Linux/Mac/etc use) or a Java applet, or if I put up an animation MPG/AVI/whatever, is this a website? No. It's just an application/animation which happens to be delivered over HTTP. Sure, hopefully it plays with a plugin in the browser, rather than needing to be saved to disk and run with a separate mouse-click / key-press, but that doesn't fundamentally change the facts.Same with Flash. Just an application/animation which happens to be delivered over HTTP.
There's nothing inherently wrong with this. Sometimes little applications (like this) or animations (like this) are absolutely great, flash is a great technology to build/deliver them in, and the web is a great way to distribute that flash. I have no problem with that.
Doesn't make it a website though. A website (IMHO) is 'onion skinned', I can take the basic text and parse it how I want. There's no assumption it gets rendered in a browser as opposed to downloaded, parsed, searched, transformed, translated. I can take the content but ignore the styles. I can take the text but ignore the images. I can open a page in the current window, in a new window, in a new tab, save it to disk, pipe it to a script. Flash does none of that. So to me, I honestly see "flash website" as essentially a contradiction in terms.

Beer is a part of college life, clothing optional
Beer is just such a part of college life that no one thinks twice about it. I mean, is it "in" to wear clothing or is it just something that you do? Sure, there are those who consider clothing (and beer) to be optional (like me), so perhaps a better poll would have been which things are considered more a part of life than a trend which may or may not fizzle out. Beer's not in or out. It just...is.
Now go watch Strong Bad deal with the near-tragedy of Dan, who "almost a one that was not cold." -

Inappropriate teen-2-peer choice behaviors
You are conveniently leaving out the possible correlation between debilitating gold rush era diseases (such as the cholera and inappropriate teen-2- peer choice behaviors.
It's too early to tell, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that those college kids that have come down with the mumps had engaged in littering, loitering, latering, lootering, and other things that cause inappropriate teen-2-peer choice behaviors. -

Using dual now... I'll never go back
I have two machines on my desk. Both are a little old now, but they are serving me well still.
#1 is a XP3200 (32-bit), and #2 is a Mac dual G4 (at a lowly 866 MHz). Surprisingly, these machines are fairly well matched, with SMP-optimised apps running about as fast on the Mac as on the PC. Single-threaded stuff is much slower on the Mac, no surprise. As for games, well I think we all know the real reason I have an x86 machine at all right?
But for general everday use, I prefer the Mac, not only for the GUI, but for the amazing responsiveness of it. Nothing fazes it. Everything seems to fly at full speed no matter what else you are doing at the time. This has everything to do with the dual CPUs. Watching Strongbad e-mail might not require a multi-GHz CPU to run, but that multi-GHz system can still allow the animation to become choppy when you do something which hogs the CPU for any amount of time. That will virtually never happen on a dual-CPU/dual-core system. Any single thread of execution, no matter how high its priority, can never used more than 50% of your CPU resources. To me, that is the strongest argument for dual CPUs, not against them, as others will argue.
The next PC or Mac that I buy will definitely be dual CPU or dual core. No question. -
Seriously.

Chicken Fried Hairy Lobster
adapted from Strong Bad's famous family recipe:
Ingredients:
3 or 7 medium sized Hairy Lobsters
2 salt
40 pancakes
Instructions:
Get down off smokestack. Then cook that
ugly thing.
(NOTE: For best results, dip the Hairy Lobster in egg wash before shaving or else he'll get those red shaving bumpies all over him. Ugh.)
Cheers,
