Re:Santa's gonna be PISSED
You're officially on the naughty list, you Danish bastards!
Yeah
.. but everybody gets sump'n from Sump'n Claus -
Dream Theater (not the band)
1. What is the most unusual location you have written a program from?
Underneath a theatrical stage
2. What is the most unusual circumstance under which you have written a program?
Same place with a raccoon staring at me.
No knife, but I think I would have been less scared if had one like the 'possums in this skit . At least the knife won't have rabies
3. What is the most unusual computing platform that you wrote a program from?
The "Whole Hog" Lighting console.
4. What is the most unusual application program that you wrote?"
not an application per se but programming the lighting cycles for a penguin exhibit. Not difficult at all but the need for accuracy was vital. -
Empty Suit
Tune into http://www.whitehouse.gov/, just like any other idiot box channel be it http://abc.go.com/, http://www.nbc.com/, http://www.cbs.com/, http://www.cwtv.com/, http://www.fox.com/, suck up the corporate cool aide and be informed, of what you are meant to know, and about how you are meant to think and whom you have to vote for. All the channels with the same corporate message, all the talking heads reading off the same Teleprompter feed. The US no longer has a president, it just has another puppet, saying what it is told to say, pretending it thinks for itself, and working ever so hard at dumbing down the airwaves. Of course the rest of the world is looking at the office of the President of the United States and realising just how a empty suit really occupies that position.

This is not "Bag O Glass" is it?
Maybe this gang is too young to remember Dan Aykroyd and his SNL skits like: http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/irwin-mainway/n8641/

"9th Circuit Rules That Celebrity 'Rights' Trump"

Re:I never liked him but...
There is a reason so many people have become iFanatics (tm). Anyone remember Nick Burns our companies computer guy? That is the stereotypical image the average office worker had/has of their IT dept. Want to know why we have yet to see the year of Linux on the desktop? Just look at the forums where knowledgeable technical people (not n00bs) ask simple questions about how to do something and the responses from kernel developers scolding them for not scouring through thousands of man files (most out of date or written in elvish) and using a GUI when the command line is the only acceptable means of interfacing with the system. Technology is hard for most people but nobody likes to be reminded of their lack of competence. Jobs was fanatical about hiding the how of the technology and making the function and form of the device job1. Even most technophobes can pick up an iPhone and figure out its basic functionality with little technical support. With so many people afraid of asking Nick Burns for help how can you blame them for picking a device that lets them do what they need to without his help. It's also why Android has seen mass adoption DESPITE being Linux at its core where Mameo, Meego, and MobLin have floundered. (Have you ever seen a manufacturer's stock Android device ship with any shell apps preinstalled?)

6 months? Give it a rest.
Buy blocks or big Lego bricks. Puzzles with big pieces are good. Is the app-for-the-kid really for her or for you? Things with glass are not for small children (unless it's the Bag O' Glass from Saturday Night Live: http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/irwin-mainway/1185611/).

Re:No surprise at all
Do you mean this clip on NBC.com?

Nick Burns
I think SNL's Nick Burns series characterized people's typical views of Nerds pretty well: http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/nick-burns/2786.

How much more do we need before the public accepts that it's just a few guys driving around Nevada?
Not Nevada; Barstow:

Yeah, you'd think on Slashdot we could at least get Robocall's take on the issue.

Funny SNL Netflix sketch
This past episode of Saturday Night Live had a REALLY FUNNY sketch skewering Netflix and how fast they seem to be changing course and announcing new plans. It was unfortunately cut for time and didn't air, but is available on NBC's website:
http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/netflix-apology/1359563
It was the first thing I thought of when I read the Netflix email this morning. Very funny, apt and appropriate. Almost makes me respect SNL as being on the cutting edge again.

Re:Simpler explanation
Well since he was referring to "protean" I am pretty sure the following video will be quite informative:
-
Re:There will always be an Edgar Friendly
My next house will have two dishwashers, dammit.
(hopefully won't have to move to Utah)
I would now if I had the space.
And the "Christmas Tree Closet" is another favorite. I just now got the last box of decorations put away in the traditional way. And I have to do all of it the traditional way, because if the wife "helps" I'll just have boxes of broken glass for next year. Might make good fits for children.

9 months ago called
February called, they want their news back
Also your link doesn't say a word about pedophiles, and Fisher Price already makes little pink video cameras for toddlers 3 and up and the Nintendo DS has had a camera since 2008. Fisher Price even had a camera for kids 8 and up way back in 1987
If you're worried about children taking inappropriate photos or videos and uploading them it's too late, cameras have been marketed to kids for many years and I haven't heard any stories about young children uploading inappropriate videos. More fear mongering at it's best, what's next souping and trampolining? -

This happened on Law& Order seven years ago...
Lennie Briscoe was working on this care in 2003:
http://www.nbc.com/Law_and_Order/episode_guide/305.shtml
Elderly man owns his Harlem brownstone free and clear. Some scammer steals his identity on line, takes out a second mortgage on the house, hides the money, loan goes into default, bank forecloses, real owner is out on the street.
Then he finds scammer and kills him. Which is kind of interesting, since the victim is 79 years old in the story.
So, if they're doing it on prime time TV in 2003, it's not a story today. No matter where it happened.

A computer illiterate too.
In the last season of Celebrity Apprentice, he didn't even know how to type, use a MacBook, and Office! But then I am not surprised by these types of people. Heh. You can see the embedded video clip on here (probably only works for American locations).

I'm going to have to revoke your brainiac geek club card if you didn't have some immediate suitable comeback on that one

Saturday Night Live's Version
Saturday Night Live has a hilarious parody... The Woomba

Insightful? No, non-sequiter
Another non-viable approach: an ever growing population of any sort, in an environment of limited resources.
You know what else wouldn't be viable? A population of old people supported by NINJA-PANDAS!!!What does your comment have to do with markdavis's comment? He never said, 'we need to reduce the population through birth control' which is what you seem to be implying. As long as people have a little over a kid apiece on average, there's no problem. People die at every age, and so with replacement rate breeding, there will still be more young people than old people.
Besides, with more old people, there will be more old-people medicine for robots to use as fuel. The robots can support the old people, because they're made of metal, and robots are strong.
