Well...Aside from the obvious popularity contest this will turn into with nothing of real interest to watch, I wonder what legal implications this will have for those of us who use downloading tools for You Tube. All the server sees is a video download, and it couldn't easily tell from the legitmate Flash Player or Video Downloader, right?
Also, as someone who actually wrote a program to crawl YouTube and download what it finds (in Perl no less), what legal implications does that have for me? Am I now a criminal for "falsibly generating views"?
And what about various tricks I've seen on other sites like this where people just watch the first 2 seconds then exit out, knowing that that counts as a "view" and therefore inflates the view counter and enables the voting box?

Re:What Do Other Sources Say?
Had I not simply wanted to give just a few examples, I would have also included the FSM in the list, as well as C'thulu, the Great Green Arkleseizure (y'know, the coming of the Great White Handkerchief?), and this portrayal of "The End of the World".
Now, to book my reservation to the Floating Island of Mandango. -

H2G2 Confirms this fact.According to the Good Book (and by "Good Book" I mean The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams):
It's an important and popular fact that things are not always what they seem. For instance, on the planet Earth, Man had always assumed that he was the most intelligent species occupying the planet, instead of the *third* most intelligent. The second most intelligent were of course dolphins. Dolphins had long known of the impending destruction of earth and had on many occasions tried to alert mankind but their warnings were mistakenly interpreted as amusing attempts to punch footballs or whistle for titbits.

The terrible secret of space
Unable to sense him, the robot's powerful hydraulic arm kept on working and accidentally pushed the engineer into a grinding machine.
Yeah, "accidentally". Dude, that's what shover robots do. One moment you're working, the next, boom you've gone down the stairs, or into an industrial grinding machine. Beware the terrible secret of space! PAK CHOOIE UNF. You are filth. -
Re:Virtual bots
Self-aware robots shouldn't be made, because we'll eventually end up with things like Space Robots. I'm going to stop using stairs when that happens.

Re:O-Zone (Numa Numa)
Just take the Numa Numa video on the internet from a year ago. This is a potential hit song made popular in the US from the "Numa Numa" video at http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/206373 that went nowhere on the buying charts due to pure stupidity of the recording industry. If you liked this song, you couldn't buy it.
I know this is slashdot and the culture is to be inward nerd looking, but even then I think you are vastly overestimating the general public's interest in non-uniform memory architecture. -
O-Zone (Numa Numa)
The music industry doesn't seem to know how to make money anymore.
Just take the Numa Numa video on the internet from a year ago. This is a potential hit song made popular in the US from the "Numa Numa" video at http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/206373 that went nowhere on the buying charts due to pure stupidity of the recording industry. If you liked this song, you couldn't buy it.
iTunes only added it to their collection well after the interest in it subsided (and I bought it then). Sure it was in Romanian, but that really wasn't a big deal--just look at the success of 99 Luftballooons from 20 years ago.
The record industry is over-focused on piracy from folks who would never buy their music anyway. The positive word-of-mouth of a good song more than outweighs any piracy of a good song. And the greedy executives don't realize they'll make more money when teenagers grow up and *buy* music from nostalgia then they'll ever get from the same people when they are teenagers. But if the greedy recording companies force teenagers to get their music through piracy because they have no alternative, then those customers may be gone for good.
I'm old enough to know what I want in music, and as best as I can tell, the recording industry doesn't want to sell it to me at any price. They want to sell me their crap instead. -
Re:The 3rd Clause
The 3rd clause could basically be used to ban all sales of video games to minors, allowing only purchasing of educational software.
IANAL, but that's an incorrect interpretation.
In these games-as-porn bills, it must meet all three requirements. Thus, a game that sprays gibs as if they were popcorn could still be sold to minors with whatever marginal plots they currently have.
Ultimatly, this bill does not affect any game available on the market, and violates the first amendment regardless. After all "New Super Mario Bros" "...lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value for minors...",
Super Mario Bros contains Political content, as I mentioned in one of my previous postings. Even if the current version doesn't have this, it is still
It's considered fan-made, but it is still part of the game. Third-party animations may be another story, but still reinforce the point:
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/307402
A better example would be the game of Chess. It is violent without having any forms of gibs - and there's no literary, artistic, political or scientific value from the game itself (before it was treated as the target for basic AI systems.) -
Re:This is a tough business
We don't compete with the $10M projects.
I think that we do compete with the $10M projects, and very directly so. After all, we produce "entertainment," so we're already in competition with movies, restaurants, and fun gadgets for consumers' money. The potential customer doesn't separate indie games out from the AAA titles as much as we'd like. Their money is (presumably) finite, so their purchase of one game means that they're less likely to purchase another, regardless of who created it.
We're not after the same markets to begin with - there's a clear separation between hardcore and casual gamers.
Ah, but this further increases the competition, as a casual indie game is up against both the higher-profile casuals (e.g., the Lumineses and Tetrises) and the myriad free games available on Newgrounds and Miniclip.
I believe that small studios will do better once we get ourselves into the mindset that we're squarely in competition with larger ones. Which is fine, because while we may not all be able to compete at the cutting-edge on photorealism, there's precedence for our creating good-looking games that excel in other areas (Uplink, GalCiv).

Communist Mario
I'll be the first to burn Karma by posting links to Communist Mario conspiracy theories. No reason why it couldn't be - it's popular enough that it could just as easily sneak in communist propoganda on unsuspecting citizens.

Tom Fulp's "Pico's school" was considered pretty ground breaking back in the early days of Flash animation http://www.newgrounds.com/pico/pico.html
It is certainly inspired by Columbine.
Tom himself says:
1999 also saw the introduction of Pico's School, hailed by many as the pinnacle of Flash 3 "programming". I say that in quotes because Flash 3 didn't offer much in terms of programming - it didn't even support variables. I came up with a very complex work-around for tracking events and data, making Pico the most advanced Flash 3 game I am aware of.
It's very entertaining! -

Telecom suits vs. Internet hackersThe Big Telecom industry is fighting to keep their dominance and their reign of status quo. To continue their oppression, they are now vying to take over the Internet industry for their own personal gain.
A fact that the general public does not realize that if oil wasn't so high that the government is now taking action against the Big Oil companies (who have anally raped consumers at the gas pump while raking in record profits), the government would be taking action against Big Telecom (which has been leaving dirty messages in our voice mail like a drunken Pat O'Brien).
Given that the House Committee on Energy & Commerce has done little to stop Big Oil from buttf*cking us, it is more than certain that they will allow Big Telecom to do the same.
Big Telecom's arguments for wanting to make the Internet it's b*tch.
First, they tell us that they "want to provide more services to consumers" and "are woking hard to bring it to consumers." For those who were not born yesterday, this is BS. The telecom industry generally says these things because they are also trying to take over the entire cable industry, not just part of it which they already own. They don't want a slice of pie, they want to whole thing.
Secondly, they tell us that they "want to help the government apprehend online predators". It sounds like a noble objective, but what Big Telecom doesn't tell the goverment is that this goal is at the bottom of thier list of things to do, which probably looks like this:Big Telecom's To Do List
- Lie to the goverment (if in trouble call George.)
- Screw consumers
- Distribute educational propoganda to children to gain influnece
When I was in the kindergarden and first grade, AT&T and some energy gave the school these fliers to pass out to children to teach children about energy conservation and tell children about some of the technology that is out there that AT&T used to help others especially the disabled and the deaf. In retrospect, this is nothing more than corporate propoganda. If you have children who come home with this sort of materal, file a complaint against the school board for allowing major corporations to sell out your children!
Big Telecom's To Do List (continued)
- Take over the cable industry (by force if necessary)
- Take over the internet industry (by force if neccessary)
- Provide wireless phone service to thrid world countries even though they could be used to trigger incidenary devices. (Terrorists are very bad people, but atleast they pay their phone bill on time.)
- Deny any corporate accountability (who need it?)
- Torture the world by giving Joan Cusak.
- Regret hiring Joan Cusak.
- Hire Catherine Zeta Jones. (Mrs. Jones is one of the highest paid actresses in her industry, but we don't care cause we aren't paying for these expensive 30 second commericals, our customers do!)
- Market phones to teenager. (Teenagers are stupid! They'll buy anything.)
- Market phones to children. (Parents are stupid! They'll buy anything for their children)
- Cut Lucent Technologies' budget (New techonolgy? Who needs it!)
- ... (dozens of other stupid tasks)
... - ???
- Profit
- Help government apprehend online predators. (Pray that they don't find our own stash of illict content.)
Generally, Big Telecom does not report any records of predators who work for Big Telecom. They also won't report anyone who works for any government agency in order to influence the government, at the right price no less. They will also hide any evidence that they themselves are engaging in these illict acts. Industries often use altrusism to coverup any corruption they are currently engaging in (see Big Tobacco).
Finaly, Big telecom also tells us that they "want to pr -

I'd have to say that was the most polished flash game I've ever seen. The gameplay was better than Streets of Rage or those other beat-em-up's. Graphics and music are stylistically excellent. It convinced me to check out their ps2 game next time I'm at a rental place. -

Re:I kill Gnomes and Dwarfs
10 hours a week isn't bad but you are a minority. Most WoW players are addicted and play in the 30 hours+/week range.
Take for example, this guy
He sounds pretty violent to me. Now, is it the game that caused him to be violent and aggressive or is that just his personality? My opinion is the guy has serious issues which he is able to suppress through gaming. Possibly he has no real social skills and he has transposed the importance of real life with his gaming persona. -
