Re:VR was more hype than reality
As the other responder noted, that is not necessary. Check THIS out. They are very accurate. The exact same technology could be used in a headset to determine your location and where you are looking.
-
I disagree completely.
There are lots of "virtual reality" scenarios that do not call for any kind of shape or image recognition. For example, have you seen one of THESE?
The Celestron uses its integral GPS, electronic compass, and accelerometers to determine exactly where you are looking, and it will identify stars for you.
Using the same detector technology, a heads-up display could overlay "virtual" 3-D objects onto your glasses, that appear to be in any location, anywhere. Those objects could move, you could see them in 3D, and so on. There is no need for image recognition at all, just to do that.
Further, if you had two such units networked together, they could communicate their respective locations, and you could see a "monster" image overlaid on top of your friend. Admittedly, this would be a bit rough without the recognition you mentioned, but it could still make for a satisfying virtual experience. All kinds of "virtual" objects could be inserted into your world, and there are a number of fairly trivial ways that could be rigged up for you to interact with them. -

Google totally dumped the Immersive Media VW BUG data footage and the company itself from Street View when the camera quality and function would not perform as advertized. Immersive Media then used the Google name to run up their own stock price and cash in for the Canadian executives. Google refused to even speak to the Immersive Media CEO after repeated lies and the stock games came to light in June 2007. Re:Linux ready?? Answer these
1. Will Flash media, WITH SOUND, work out of the box?
Been awhile since I've installed. However, I don't remember having to do more than install Flash (sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree). Sound worked, and non-Firefox browsers work also.
2. What about VPN?
This post will be submitted via a VPN. In fact, currently all traffic, including DNS, is routed through that VPN.
3. What about wireless?
Yes, and out of the box. That's more than I can say for XP.
4. Any specialty software?
Some yes, some no. However, at what point would Linux become ready? There is specialty software which does not work on the Mac, and no one claims that's not ready for the desktop. There's even specialty software which does not work on Windows.
5. Printing?
Point-and-click, out of the box, no need to install drivers or anything. Try to add a network printer, it'll even scan the local subnet for anything listening on port 631.
I don't print often -- I don't need paper often. But I often remember asking people, "Can I borrow your printer?" and being able to print something maybe 30 seconds after plugging it into a USB port. I can't ever remember this not being the case -- I honestly can't remember printing ever being a problem.
6. Educational software?
There are whole distros designed specifically for education.
7. Stuff to keep the kids away from nasty sites?
Anything on the local machine is doomed to failure. Kids know more about this stuff than you do. Hey, maybe they'll try Linux themselves, on a Knoppix CD, where your "stuff to keep them away from nasty sites" won't work.
However, filtering at the ISP level is quite common, as an option. Sure, in the long run, it'll be broken also, but it's really a bit more effective, and works equally well with all OSes.
8. Home automation?

Planck secrecy
According to this thorough article in norwegian (since norwegian scientists are involved), there is a lot of secrecy involved, so that results from Planck will not be released to the public before 2013 or 2014:
http://www.dagbladet.no/2009/05/14/nyheter/vitenskap/forskning/astronomi/verdensrommet/6203165/
(Briefly mentioned also, in this blog: http://planckmission.wordpress.com/ )
Sorry, no proper translation from norwegian to english available:
http://tinyurl.com/orlkmu
In short, it says that because of competition between the scientists, there will be strict regulations and that scientist who forget to log out of their PC ("turn their monitor off") or bring any data off the premises, will be excluded from further studies and further monitoring of the Planck observatory.
Which I find strange, since there is only one Planck observatory like there is only one Hubble telescope, and there were no secrecy around the images released from it.
If one scientist give up his or her data, so that other scientists can get advantages which might make them "win the competition", why exclude scientists who "volunteer" information?
This, I don't understand, do they expect to find proof of alien presence? :-) -
Re:Sure, but IT'S IN THE GEARING RATIOS
We had a very heavy 1989 Oldsmobile station wagon. It got 25 City & 28 Highway! It was geared into the dirt. 3rd gear top speed was 45, but at that point it shifted into the 2nd speed of the transaxle. My friend, if SUV'S were geared even lower than that for front wheel drive up to say a 3rd or 4th gear then you could run a direct drive to the rear wheels for highway speeds only at the back tires. All vehicles could be made that way, lower gears and reverse on the front wheels, hi-speed at the rear but it only works if you have a powerful engine (see last paragraph). I imagine SUV'S and pickup trucks would then be getting maybe 45-65 mpg with no changes to the engines... especially with these new diesel engines they're coming out with.
Toyota came out with a engine for their little pickups that runs diesel but then it has a switch to jump over to METHANE. Damn thing is supposed to get 80 mpg. They could put a bigger one in SUV'S and Hummers. I presently only have a 1978 Ford Maverick and mileage is 14 or so, atrocious, but if I put some smaller diameter tires on next time I need tires I could IN EFFECT give it the extra/excess starting off power the Olds wagon had. That's where you need horses on the hoof, pulling away from a stop getting the car's weight moving with the least outlay of energy. Since I only drive it around town anyway & to work or the store I don't need it to do highway speeds. I can stand a top speed of 42-45 miles per hour. I'll tell ya something else you might not know this but I've read you can take the plugs and compression off a couple cylinders in the 302 and save gas that way! So with smaller tires I could have more torque to the road and make out well with fewer cylinders, probably double the gas mileage, if I chose to do all that.
IT'S ALL IN THE GEARING, THE GEARBOX AND DIFFERENTIALS IS WHERE YOU LOSE. They could keep every big SUV on the road. They just want people getting crushed into a bloody ball I guess. That's what they think of a man's family and children. Bloodsport without Van Damme. I'm too busy right now making a Gravity "Fuel" Home Engine generates electricity for homes to mess with it => http://tinyurl.com/GravityWheelOne but I invented a system for cars in 2003 that is a tornado engine, mixes super cold liquid air injected into a steam-filled hot cylinder (so th minus 320 degree air doesn't flash freeze the piston to the cylinder walls). Last year I designed the engine past theory to run like a mechanical heart. My son is making it up in 3-d Studio Max starting tomorrow. It's a Closed System; once put together no fuel in no pollutants out. I'm not much for making web pages but since I didn't have the bucks to pay anybody in 2003 I made this page telling the processes involved for the air-steam engine => http://www.newpath4.com/enginewow.htm . It's like an advanced steam engine in a way except the steam is no longer the "Prime Mover"; cold air takes its place => Steam pressure is replaced with air exploding pressure. It confuses people. Steam Heat becomes the catalyst that makes the liquid air explode rather than just expand. It's a weather cycle in an engine that should develop 600 horsepower. Here's the trick => all the cylinders fire at the same time PLUS another trick => it goes back to being a 2-cycle engine firing twice as fast. It's about 1100% more powerful than any diesel combustion engine. -

To AC
It has always been a basic principle, at least in the US: you cannot copyright a fact. You can copyright the way you word things about a fact, but that is not the same thing.
So, for example: your article about the beauty of yesterday's sunset at 7:45pm can be copyrighted. But anyone else can read your article, and in turn write that yesterday's sunrise was at 7:45pm, because that basic fact is not copyrightable.
That is a sufficiently thorough explanation, as it really is a very basic element of law. If you still don't believe it, http://tinyurl.com/2c9np -

I mean YetAnotherInternetToughGuyBashTehWee, everybody can go to various gaming websites to see this and NEWSFLASH : nobody cares.
And I mean I'm pretty nobody cares about whether or not you'll buy another wii (as a multiconsole owner you're a minority of a minority so...yeah).
And I agree that nobody gives a shit about my view on it too (which is why i keep it to myself). Now about the M+, the tech is indeed expensive. if it wasn't Sony would have integrated it in the Sixaxis instead of the accelerometers.

Re:All that and ruggedized?
Ah! The truth comes out!
Just pick yourself up a TRS-80 Model 100, and be done. It only uses about one Watt of power.
Or maybe an RS-232-equipped teletype; I have a TI Silent 700 here that uses thermal paper. It works fine after rescuing it from the hot equipment cabinet where it lived, powered up, for almost exactly twenty years. (Don't ask - you can't afford mine.)
More seriously: Perhaps looking to pro audio for the answer might be productive. You want physical durability, a fair bit of storage, and tolerance for hot environments, and dust. (I live in Ohio, where the humidity is rather high all summer, and I don't consider that to be a real concern since my stuff all seems to survive just fine.)
Nearly zero digging finds me this Ebay offering. I have no idea who really makes this case, but I've been seeing that particular design around for at least 15 years.
The important parts: Rack mount, lots of drive bays, ATX, dust filters, and (here's the clincher) hold-downs for the PCI cards.
Build the rest of the system as you see fit with whatever tradeoffs you want, and avoid copper CPU heatsinks due to the weight (and therefore stress) of them.
And then slide it all into a shock-mounted roadcase. Both Starcase and Anvil are capable of producing a shock-resistant, ATA-rated road case which will fit neatly with the aforementioned ATX case. Also, there is SKB. They don't do anywhere near as much custom work, and their stuff isn't (in my opinion) quite as durable as the others, but they're generally a lot cheaper and lighter, and they list several 4U shock-mounted racks as standard items here.
Does any of this come close to the mark?

Viruses|Bacteria|Molds=Quality+Food+Source
Friend, I know your pain having trouble losing weight and I am finally losing weight at 57 years of age with a half-operated away thyroid gland (very low metabolic rate). Go to a website called MSSO => http://www.mysupplementstore.com/ and look up Guggelsterones in a product called Guggelbolic Extreme. It's made from the Guggel tree in the Orient somewhere. What it does is it converts the lazy thyroid hormone T-4 into activated T-3 => that will get you up off the couch, feel like exercising or doing yard work, plus it's great for complexion too, for the women a softer silky skin. Then locate a second product there called MELTDOWN. It is scientifically engineered to cause the outer membrane of Fat cells to break apart and be absorbed by your body. However, it is a powerful formula says you can take 3 per day. Do not take 3. Your brain relies of fat for energy so taking 3 will pull too much fat out of the brain and well, 2 is plenty. I only take ONE.
Now visit a website called http://www.vitaglo.com/ and get some Stacker II and Mega Hoodia or somewhere else if you want. These will help you HOWEVER they are also very strong, too strong for older people. Mix one capsule of each of those dry in a pitcher with aloe vera capos from http://www.wildernessfamilynaturals.com/ and Oxy-Nectar from Vitaglo again. These are extremely healthy and healing products. Take two of these a day or just one, your choice.
That will get you on track by building your health so incredibly high your body will begin using the fat but it will also begin eating the bacteria in your body as food source par none and cannibalizing the viruses for protein: you won't starve I assure you. Now if you want to go ONE STEP FURTHER add Hyaluronic Acid from http://www.puritanspride.com/ is a good site for that. Their hyaluronic is very high quality. Hyaluronic is a well-kept secret. It is sold for making women's skin nice and soft/smooth but I found out it STOPS COLON CANCER DEAD IN ITS TRACKS when combined with Oxy-Nectar and Ibuprofens a few a day... because Ibuprofen relaxes cell membranes that allows more of the Oxy-Nectar and the Hyaluronic to get into the cell. What that does you can find here => http://www.prleap.com/pr/91843 . Not only can you turn your ship around and lose weight you can turn your body into a Disease-Killing Machine that does not allow cancers to live. Oxy-Nectar will raise your IQ, an added benefit, so that one day you might develop a Gravity Wheel like I have => http://tinyurl.com/GravityWheelOne and am preparing to show one running online in a few months probably June 2009. God bless your efforts to turn those microbes|bacteria|viruses|molds into a quality food source and enjoy life again.
Yeah, I was the one started saying excess human bodyfat is a Benign Cancer, about 3 maybe 4 years ago. It has taken the researchers a long time to catch up to me I see. I'm The CloudSeeder and one of Jehovah's Witnesses so they avoid acknowledging me much less that I solved cancer by showing people how to build extra of their own new stem cells. Now if the hospitals start doing the rest of my recommendations and set up triage fat surgery interventions rightfully to be fully paid by healthcare provider insurance free liposuction, free modified abdominoplasty and free mesotherapy and free cutting off the excess skin we'll be talking some progress. Food addiction was caused in us, so somebody has to pay the bill besides us. The Food Industry? DUH. -

The first rule of Magpie: Don't talk about Magpie!Personally, I don't care if my followers pitch me now and then, but
a) mix it up. make the ratio one advert per 10 quality, humanistic, value-oriented tweets
b) be transparent. Some of those magpie ads in the article were a little misleading I thought.
b) be clever about it. I've never felt even remotely interested in any paid tweet because they're so crappy, or reduntant, or irrelevant.
I have personally used magpie for advertising, and with success. It's not as potent as pay-per-click (ala Adwords) because the intent to purchase typically isn't there. That's why marketing on Facebook is such a lame idea. Brands are only getting inbetween conversations with loved ones. Not cool.
Twitter has the advantage of having real-time search, so intent can be captured as it's happening.
You definitely can use contextual marketing on twitter and still look at yourself in the mirror each morning. You just gotta know how.
-
I've seen the future of Search, and it's name isTwitter.
Twitter provides realtime search. It shows intent realtime. It shows trends. It's faster than the news media and blogs, and, with a 140 character limit, it cuts to the chase. And it's growing like crazy.
MS and / or Yahoo should be looking at Twitter seriously. It's the real deal.
