Measure the Love in Dollars
I was an active collector of Infocom games until recently, but I had to give up because (1) I eventually acquired all 35 games and (2) the special edition versions of the game still sell for incredible prices. Check out this copy of Starcross that just sold on ebay for $500. People still have fond memories for these great games.

:)No, it's not. In fact it's explicitly mentioned as acceptable.

Re:I hope Google shit on ebay
ebay would love for me to sell myself stuff. They get $.25 + 3% + 1.25% + 4% of every transaction.
Unfortunately, you can't sell yourself. -
Re:God forbid eBay would clean up its own act
My biggest pet peeve with them is crap being in the wrong category. It makes it such a chore to look for something to buy.
For example lets go with wholesale lots of PCs
The first 20 results are single buy laptop computers and then we have
TEKTRONIX 840 850 860 AUXILLARY 500 SHEET PAPER TRAY
100 x Antistatic Anti Static Bags ESD (6"x9")
MAKE OVER £1000 A WEEK ON EBAY (100% PROFIT)
Mystery Box Of Computers
3 more single computers.
LAPTOP REPAIR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY
Wholesale Lots- Buy Computers and MAKE A LOT OF MONEY !
I mean holy shit, this reads more like spam then things to buy.
And it goes on and on and on like this. -

Re:DS Web Browsing
Then again, the Play-Yan is also only available in Japan, but you can get it through unofficial sources. Got mine yesterday, great little cart.
I'm pretty sure the Opera cart will be available too, if you search a bit. And if the Opera cart is anything like the Play-Yan, the only thing Japanese will be the credit screen (everything else is either icons or english text).
What would've been REALLY amazing is if the DS Lite had a built-in SD slot (with built-in Play-Yan micro capabilities) and built-in Opera browser (along with extra RAM built-in instead of on a cart). Throw in a PDF viewer (via the SD slot) and Nintendo would sell these to anyone... games, mp3, movies, ebook and browser on the go! -

Just look for mp3 players on ebay, that's where I got mine. Also, don't be in a hurry to get one - you'll end up bidding more than you need to. Try this link: http://electronics.search.ebay.com/usb_MP3-Player

I've bought a few of those as presents but they all died after about 3 months.
I don't know what they did with them but they all lost their mp3 playing ability, though you could use them for a while as 1gb keychains.
I got them all from Hong Kong via ebay for about 40Eu

I have a DS, it's pretty cool.
When the DS and PSP were revealed to the public, but not yet released, I thought that I would probably purchase both, but get the DS first. I got as far as the DS, and I don't think I'll be picking up a PSP. There's a lot of cool things about both systems, but when it comes down to it, I love the touchscreen. The PSP offers me a portable version of PS2 gaming, which is cool and all, but I don't really play video games away from the house, even with my DS. Since I have the PS2 experience at home, I might as well get the console that has totally different gameplay? If you haven't seen the bonus games that came with Super Mario 64 DS, they are a perfect example of what is possible with touch screen gaming. The ones where you draw a line, and it becomes a trampoline for Mario are amazing. There's some game coming out that's a RTS RPG (the stylus is a great replacement for the mouse, so PC style strategy and FPS games work quite well) where the player casts spells by writing runes on the screen. The better your handwriting, the more powerful the spells. It's quite cool to have a totally unique perspective on gaming like that, and the GBA support means I have Street Fighter Alpha 2 on it.

Re:I'm grateful...
Strange... According to you and many other people, Japan would be a foreign dumpster-diver's paradise. Maybe that's why there are new (by Chinese standards, and in terms of the tech used, not in terms of usage time) PHS, CDMA, and PDC phones on eBay here in China. I can get a phone that can play MP3s with video recording and playback using a SD card for $25 on eBay here (page will be full of question marks because eBay US mis-processes pages from its Chinese counterpart, but the price at the top should make a point) Perhaps Japanese dumpster-divers take these phones and sell them in China? They could not possibly be so cheap otherwise.

Re:What I would like to know...
Anybody in Kentucky? See if you can pick this up:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ATM-used-Omni-490-Mas-Hamilton -Group_W0QQitemZ7603537770QQcategoryZ1271QQrdZ1QQc mdZViewItem
and reprogram it so that instead of dispensing money, it allows you to select a candidate and print out a receipt with that candidate's name. I think that with a working model available, states would ask Diebold why they couldn't modify their own ATMs to do the same. This would have several advantages:
1) If everyone received a voting card (with random "account numbers" not linked to your name) in the mail a few days/weeks before the election, and you had to swipe it to vote, you couldn't vote twice without stealing someone else's card.
2) You'd have a paper trail via the receipts printed out.
3) ATMs are designed to communicate securely over a network, so having them report votes into a central collection center should be feasible.
4) I assume most people have used an ATM before, so there shouldn't be any "confusion" votes for Pat Buchanan due to the formatting of the ballot.
The one thing that an ATM wouldn't allow that a paper ballot would is a write-in vote, so maybe a credit card machine where you can electronically sign would be more appropriate, but an old ATM would certainly serve as a good proof-of-concept. -

Lobbying efforts center on legislation being drafted by Rep. Lamar Smith, a Republican from Texas who chairs a key House subcommittee.
Ironically, Lamar Smith is available on ebay with "Buy It Now" options. I'm surprised Abramoff hasn't bought out the whole lot.

Re:A what?
What the hell is a ring oscillator, you ask?
After reading that WP article, I think I'm still asking
;)After reading it, it sounds like a project from one of the Radio Shack electronics kits I had back in the day. One of the components in this kit was a 7400, a quad 2-input NAND gate. By tying the two inputs of a NAND gate together, it's the equivalent of an inverter. By using one or three of the gates wired in a loop, you could make a one- or three-stage ring oscillator.
I don't recall if the documentation identified the circuit as a ring oscillator, but I think some projects used it (maybe with a capacitor somewhere in the loop to slow it down) as a clock source.

Re:When they will deliver
or some other place where I can actually buy it
Some other place like eBay? -
Re:Grow up? Hello!Totally agreed. As for myself, I type much faster than I write... like 5+ times faster. If I actually need to take notes, it's a real pain in the backside to do it by hand. I stopped doing that by about my second year in college and never looked back. While the professor may -think- that the students are less engaged because they are taking notes, speaking as somebody who has been there recently, I can assure her that many students are far more engaged with a laptop in front of them. Why? Because every second I'm writing something on notes is a second where I'm distracted. Every second where I'm typing notes, I'm distracted. If writing takes ten times as long, I'm ten times as distracted writing than typing.
And it's actually worse than that. As a pianist and touch typist, I can very nearly turn my brain off when it comes to typing. When I'm writing, I have to repeat what I'm about to write in my head so I don't lose track of what I'm writing down. When I type, the thought is already on paper before it gets out of my short term memory, so that isn't necessary to the same degree. This means that, when writing a note that takes twenty seconds to write, my brain was unable to listen to the lecture for all of that 20 seconds, but when typing it, my brain was able to listen and process the lecture for almost the entire 4 seconds.
I understand that in a class where visual communication is critical, a laptop can be distracting. For this reason, college professors should demand that the universities install proper lecture halls with tiered seating instead of flat classrooms. This improves visual interaction even when the students have laptops on their desks.
And, as you mention, providing lecture notes in these cases is a great thing. Heck, even when it isn't, it's a great thing. In the rare occasions where I've taught something, I've made it a point to always make my lecture notes available online afterwards because I wanted students to pay attention and interact in class to create a more rich, immersive learning experience. That works very well.
However, IMHO, you should not provide lecture notes until after the class session that covers them. If you given them all the notes at the beginning of the semester, students will feel less need to attend classes (unless, of course, you make regular attendance part of the grade, which itself has pros and cons). I often found myself adding things to the lecture notes based on questions and discussions that came up in class. By making those part of the online lecture notes, the students can take an more active role in driving the learning, which IMHO is critical to the learning process.
Anyway, my advice is for some of the students to have fun with this. I know I would if I were in that class. Maybe something like this. I mean, what you'd really like are glasses with really obvious fake eyeballs painted on there, but these were the closest thing I could find.

Unoriginal, check eBay!
He's not the only one to do this:
Search eBay for Patriot Act Game. I was expecting to find people packaging and selling his game, but it turns out it's a completely different game....also based on Monopoly, also poking fun at the Patriot act, civil liberties, and the terrorist threat.
I like the free one better, though, it seems more thought out. -
Joga invite
I tried to sign in at the site and get the same thing you get at Orkut:
"Joga is unique, because it's an organically growing network of trusted friends. It is one of a kind network that focuses solely on a common interest around the game of soccer. Joga will help you connect to people who share the same passion for the game and also access exclusive content around athlete profiles, video clips and photos.
If you know someone who is a Joga member, he or she can invite you to join as well. If you don't know a Joga member, you will still be able to join the network by visiting www.joga.com.
We look forward to having you join us in the Joga community."
Uhm, ok, so I have to find someone who is on Orkut/Joga to even get into the community? But how can I find someone if I can't get into the community to do a search?
Then I recall that Gmail account invites were for sale on eBay, and sure enough, you can get Orkut on eBay. It's only a matter of time before Joga account invites are available on eBay.
Anyway, if you have a Joga account, I'd love an invite. My first dot last name @ google.com. -

Loads freaky ebay stuff that's too good to be trueCheck this "dragon chopper" motorcycle. I'm sure that there'll be a number of buyers for these that will end up disappointed when it comes time to actually register and plate them. (For one thing: no place to hang the plate!) Little details like no break or turn lights, an EPA certification that's probably virtual, might make it hard to get on the road. Which is good
.. because if you do get it up to the claimed 128 MPH (from a 200cc aircooled 1 cyl engine, narf!), slowing with the cable front breaks could be problematical even if the frame holds up. From a seller that got a shipping container from China, and once they're sold, he's gone. All these warning signs, and people still buy them online, sight unseen.Still
.. beautiful plumage! -

Re:24-hour watches
This watch is not super cheap (starts at about $400), but it's not too expensive either considering what it does:
Yes watch (tech specs page)
http://www.yeswatch.com/wrist-watch/timekeeper/tec h_specs.html
They show the time with one hand, as well as digitally on the face. The face also shows daytime and nighttime by shading in the face of the watch to indicate when the sun is down, depending on the city you're in. Also shows moonset/moonrise/moon phase. Take a look, it's easier to understand from the pictures on the site...
The "Cozmo" line seems to be the least expensive, at about $400, although there is a "Zulu" model on eBay right now for about $300. -
Re:24-hour watches
Look a couple comments up from yours....the poster got this watch on ebay, and it looks like the seller has more. Frankly, I'm tempted myself, except for various reasons I prefer a pocketwatch to a wristwatch.

Re:Amazing features - Yes
Nano ITX.. yes. What do you get with nano itx? A 1gz VIA process, 2 usb ports, 100mb network, minimal sound, minimal video. How much does this cost? $350-$400 (yes those 8 layer boards arnt cheap) for the motherboard alone. No hard drive, no wireless, no ram, no case. Build me a nano itx computer that compares to the mac minis for anywhere near the price. I will buy 1000.

Re:First Post"...and schedules can easily end up with 6 hours of classes with no time to charge. "
most modern laptops offer hi-capacity double run time batteries that'll last 6+ hours on a charge. Here's a good example. They claim 7+ hours with the 12-cell battery which is double the capacity of the 6-cell battery that comes with the laptop.
Those laptops start at $629, easily affordable.
Also you might not need the laptop for the entire duration of every class, and when I was in college I rarely had a class schedule that spanned more than a 4-hour time frame anyway, usually I had at least one hour throughout the day to take a break before the next class.
-
This is why they are still hard to find...
It's because of people like this , who go into the local Target or Walmart and buy every system that comes in, just to try to make a little money on Ebay.
