What about the Monkey Island Special Edition?
What about the remake of The Secret of Monkey Island? I thought it was terrific.
-
Re:Tales of Monkey Island
Actually, the original Monkey Island games are getting special editions too, with very nice painted graphics and a redesigned mouse interface. The puzzles are the same and can still be a bit involved, though, but otherwise they're classics with a modern flavor. You can also switch back to the original graphics at any time during gameplay, which is a nostalgic bonus!

Re:Try dos games.
The first Monkey Island game just got a remake earlier this year. Among other things, it includes the old DOS graphics/music as an option (as opposed to the newer graphics, music, and voices that it defaults to).
The newer graphics are 1080i (if Wikipedia is correct).

Re:hmmm
Video games can also grossly misrepresent evolution, driving, archaeology and just about anything else they're based on. They are for the most part a source of entertainment meant to create a virtual world that may or may not have anything to do with real life. That is the point. They're supposed to be fun. Sometimes the historical inaccuracy is the whole point; It can be fun to interact with a world that isn't historically accurate; alternate timelines for example.
I'm pissed that my video game misrepresents Elves.

Re:Please
Please don't ruin it.
The "re-imagining" special edition looks like a slam-dunk. Same locations, same script, same puzzles - you can even toggle between the original presentation and the new one on the fly. They've re-recorded the dialogue, arranged the chip music for real instruments and recorded that, painted HD scenery and animated HD sprites.
The video at http://www.lucasarts.com/games/monkeyisland/ convinced me: this is something I want to pay money for.
Conversely, Telltale's Sam & Max games were OK, but a pale reflection of the original LucasArts game, so I'm less excited about their new episodes of Monkey Island.
-
Re:It seems they are staying true to the original
Aww crap. This was about two different games... The telltale thing is new stuff for the Wii, but the remastered version is not... Oh well, SCUMMVM it is then...
-
Re:The second one was not critically acclaimed
Yeah, this is just wrong. EA had nothing to do with KOTOR II - it was developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Lucasarts
But I'm glad the moderators hate EA so much they modded you Interesting for being flat out incorrect.
-
Ummm
"Some of the titles they report LucasArts apparently have in this stacked pipeline, whether as publisher or developer, include: KOTOR 3, Battlefront 3, 'The Official Indiana Jones' game, another LEGO based game based on the Indy universe, and 'a lightsaber game for the Wii.'"
Where is their information coming from? Indiana Jones Lego game is all set for release: http://www.lucasarts.com/games/legoindianajones/ -
Re:nested particles
I hate Flash sites, but:
http://www.lucasarts.com/games/theforceunleashed/
Go in the Media gallery, pick the category Web Docs/Videos, and watch "Unleashing the force".
A little after 1/3rd of the way through, they talk about DMM (Digital Molecular Matter, or something like that), and thats what im refering to. I'm sure its nowhere as sophisticated as they make it sound, but still, it looks cool :) -

Re:"No Luke" FTW
Or like The Force Unleashed?
-
Re:I don't get it
I think it has to do with the fact that they're in the process of making a video game that is going to bridge III and IV for the next gen consoles. They even say on the website that both LucasArts and Industrial Light and Magic have been working on this game. The Official site is here: http://www.lucasarts.com/games/theforceunleashed/

They have some good looking concept art there, but I'd like to see in-game stills.
Also, this looks interesting:
Digital Molecular Matter (DMM) by Pixelux Entertainment
What is DMM? DMM -- exclusive to LucasArts for any game releases through September 2008 -- brings an unprecedented level of realism to the new generation of consoles by making completely interactive environments that react as they would in real life. From crumbling walls to shattering glass and even swaying organic plant life, in-game objects have material properties that behave realistically all in real time and without using a single frame of animation. -
Like...
this???
Eeeerrrwwww... -
No
Honestly? Will the original Trilogy ever be released in a non-craptastic form? Perhaps we will have to wait for the Blue-Ray HD-DVD battle to be resolved.
You know, I saw a recent 're-release' of Star Wars' Original Trilogy that was in pretty high quality. But there was something strange about it that didn't feel right. I mean, sure the picture and quality was excellent but there was something different about it that I just couldn't quite put my finger on. -
Bulls*t
We don't need to be scared at all to enjoy a game. Many years ago the most popular games around, and arguably some of the most inventive, were adventure games, a la Lucasarts, including Grim Fandango, Curse of Monkey Island, etc. These games were engaging, funny, and downright pleasant to play. Immersive as hell, too. I recently tried Quake 4 and was blown away by the stupidity of the game. Get bigger guns. Get ammo. Throw grenade. Shoot and kill. How bloody novel. Hour after hour after hour of the same old sh*t. I haven't like a first person shooter since I played Theif. Boy, what a rant, but games today suck ass because idiots think that adrenaline is needed or it won't sell. So we end up with shelf after shelf stocked with the same f*cking game in fifty different boxes. Hell, at this point I'd be happy to play Zork

Re:'We are not the Star Wars company'
They can say "We are not the Star Wars company" all they want, but until they have more than one game on their current product list that doesn't have Star Wars in the title, they are the Star Wars company.
-
Re:Original games?
They also did Armed & Dangerous:

Original games? How many original games has LucasArts had in the last three years? The only one I can think of was the one mentioned in the article, Mercenaries.
Everything else has been Star Wars or Indiana Jones.
LucasArts used to be known for its Adventure games, but under Mr. Ward's leadership, they flushed that down the toilet in favor of more Star Wars. They got such bad press from the Sam and Max 2 cancellation that they removed the Press Release from their site. LucasArts can claim that the genre is dead, but when companies like The Adventure Company continue to make money off of them, it would appear that LucasArts is wrong.
The question is, will LucasArts put its money where its mouth is, or simply continue to be the Star Wars company?

What I Want to Know...
Is will it have a new version of Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi?
Or, as my friends in college liked to call it: Jedi Bitch-slap -
Two words:Matrix Online
Does anyone play that anymore? How well is it doing based against other MMOs such as WoW, Coh/ CoV, EQ, EQ2, etc.?
What's going to make these games unique? What will drawpeople to the game, or people away from other MMOs, besides licensing? Most gamers aren't fooled by licensing gimmicks anymore (Star Wars Masters of Taras Kasi anyone?), so unless there's innovation or new gameply/ mechanics involved that will appeal to old and new gamers alike, it will be an uphill battle.
Think the only appeal a games like this would have is being the lucky person to be on TV. But hey, if there aren't a lot of people who play the game, your odds of winning increas at least

Warcraft, Starcraft... even Grim Fandango
There's got to be better game material out there for a movie. I personally think that Warcraft or Starcraft could each make a fantastic special effects film... I always loved watching the cut-scenes in the game. Why HALO? While DOOM might end up being a turkey, there is good video game material out there. I would love for Tim Burton to make the LucasArts title Grim Fandango into a film... it would certainly be entertaining.

Re: Racing
But would you have to beat Sebulba to win the Grand Prize?
-
Re:What sort of "original" game do you propose?
"Civilization vs. Tie Fighter - "Imperial Civilization": Carefully establish imperial control across the galaxy from aboard your starship, as you subvert rebel partisan factions, dominate technology, and crush any newly developed forms of government"
http://www.lucasarts.com/products/rebellion/
Its not a terrible game, but then its not great either. -
Star Wars Battlefront
Star Wars Battlefront is what you want. Uses the BF 1942 game engine. It's basically battlefield, but with excellent John Williams score, and nifty Star Wars weapons. Excellent game, and can be found used all over the place. Online play with PS2 is fantastic.

Yeah, but what kind of Jedi is he?
Jedi Academy Student
Jedi Programmer
Jedi Religious Member
And did he use the Official Jedi Name Generator? -
Re:It is time for an updated re-release
Or X-Wing Alliance - flying as gunner in a freighter against your mates in Tie Interceptors is a laugh.

Sounds familiar...
I remember something about Harrison Ford using a Mac... I think they made a game about it:

Re:Update wiki with new information
Why would LucasArts, a software developer and publisher, complain about a book?

Re:Star Wars Rebellion Was A Great Concept
I loved Rebellion. It was the game that finally made me give up on my Amiga gear and buy a PC. Yeah, the UI was a bit ropey, but once you stuck with it for a while, it became second nature.
The only problem I found with it was the lack of knowing what you were supposed to do when you first install and play it. It seemed to be a case of "here's the galaxy, do what you have to do." Without any indication of how you're supposed to go about it. It took a LOT of trial and error to get to grips with it.
I remember a friend of mine calling me, excitedly saying "I sent a probe droid to Hoth!"
:)Once I got used to it though, I played that game until my eyes bled. I'll never forget the first time I won. I bore down on the last remaining Rebel planet with a fleet of: 6 Interdictors, 30 Star Destroyers, 14 Super Star Destroyers, and a Death Star. All completely decked out with a full compliment of TIE Interceptors and Stormtroopers.
I'm getting all nostalgic now. I wonder if it runs under Wine?
:)PS: Empire at War looks like it might be a suitable Rebellion replacement, but we'll have to wait and see.

Pushed To Retail Too Soon? Yes.
see the Obsidian Forums or the Lucas Forums.

Wrath UnleashedThere was a PS2/Xbox game released by Lucasarts in early 2004 called Wrath Unleashed. I wouldn't call it an Archon sequel or remake, but it certainly draws lots of inspiration from Archon. Pity about the long load times (at least on my Xbox). If you've got $10 and a preowned bin nearby, and desperately need some console hex-map turn-based strategy, it isn't that bad a game.
-
Outcast Star?!
"We're tempted to call it the outcast star because it was forcefully tossed from its home."
I wondered where all those Jedi had gone to... -
My 2 cents...
5 is a lot better than the previous releases. I actually uninstalled the release #4(?) because it was choppy and laggy when I played. I see the new one has better maps. I wasn't expecting it to be pretty (outdated BF1942 engine) as Star Wars: Battlefront, but it was fun. I actually got third place yesterday when I played on a new ice map.

Sequel == Game by same publisher?
Since when is Mercenaries a sequel? The article calls it Pandemic Studios' follow up to "its innovative strategy game Full Spectrum Warrior." Since when is a "follow-up" game a sequel? And what makes this a "follow-up", other than being developed by the same studio? Is Full Spectrum Warrior a follow-up to Pandemic's earlier games like Clone Wars or Triple Play Does that mean Full Spectrum Warrior is a sequel to a baseball title? By that rationale, id's Doom 3 is a sequel to their previous title Quake 3 Arena. Does this seem silly to anybody else?

Re:I left with King's Quest 6
Instead of me having to fork over money for a game that you see as the nail in lucas arts adventure game coffin, why not just tell us why ? I looked at the website, and it looks really fucking cool to me. gameplay may be a different issue though. grim fandango site.

Re:Form factor had nothing to do with it for me...No, I was talking about Star Wars Battlefront. Here's a blurb about the Mac version announcement, including system requirements.
It's a pretty fun game, especially for online play. (I rented the Playstation version and played for a few days.) From what I understand, it's pretty much just Battlefield 1942, except set in the Star Wars universe. A basic FPS, with land and air vehicles to pilot.

These are fakes (sort of)
When I first saw this, I thought, hmmm, cool. These look awesome. Next, I get home and look a second time and thinks yeah, these are neat, but there is something weird about them.
Ah HA! I got it! I have seen most of these pics before. Yet they were in actual videos that I have seen. That's right, They are from a trailer actually. The pics from the duel and space battle scene are from the Episode III game trailer. Notice have the people look animated? here here and here and the space battle.
Here is the game trailer
Some pics may be legit, but mostly, they aren't. But the game trailer does seem to give a little too much of the movie away. -
Darth Maul's appearance...
All of the red and black shapes on Maul were indeed tattoos, but the horns are natural to his race. You can see one of his people in this add for the new game from lucas arts. It's also illustrative of the effect that the dark side of the force has on the physical body. As you can see from the artwork, choose the dark side, and your body changes, making you grayish-wrinkly ugly.

Re:All i can say is...
Or if you don't feel like searching, just click away.
-
Re:All i can say is...
MobyGames.com used to carry it; it's well worth a try. Or perhaps the the Lucasarts online store.
By the way, LucasArts used to sell a bundle with DOTT, "Indiana Jones and the fate of Atlantis" and S&M, for something like $30 IIRC. Worth a search ;) -
At least until we get Star Wars: Galactic Jai Alai
For me there's really only one Star Wars game I'm looking forward to.
Now I know Bioware is no longer the developer, but I still have high hopes for Obsidian.
