xbox controller
The xbox controller cable is practically made for usb. So you can cut it open and solder a usb cable to it, and these drivers are all you need for it to work as a game pad. Once that's done, a simple program lets you use it as a 16 button mouse (with rumble support).

Excellent Idea, I'm doing something similar now..
I've been wanting a site for a while where I can aggregate my research, solutions, discussions, etc. so that it benefits not only me but the community at large.
Coincidently I just this week setup XWiki to try and finally make it a reality. It's still a work in progress but one of the things I'm trying to do is exactly what you are talking about.
It's rough around the edges but I'm going to start populating it with my data real soon, I'm currently trying to figure out how to organize. Come check it out if you would like.

Please let me know if you have old movies
I've actually been trying to archive as much as I can of old stunt island films before they disappear forever. The archive is available here:
http://halelamien.no-ip.org/stunt_island/
Unfortunately, I've only been able to locate a little bit so far. If anyone has old movies lying around on floppy disks or something, please let me know at neuronexmachina@gmail.com
Also, Stunt Island runs like a charm in DOSBox, and you can typically acquire it from an abandonware site like The Underdogs. -

NigPlay v2 Reversed
LASTMEASURE: THE TRUE OPEN SOURCE ALTERNATIVE
Zeikfried - Gnaa, Nigeria.
In a world where one can get classed as +5, informative for simply being able to use google, and +5 funny for out and out slander against the Microsoft corporation, one could be forgiven for branding the elitist unfunny world of slashdot, and yes, the open source community as a whole, as a floundering stagnating mess.
But in spite of the high cretin concentration throughout open source, but all is not yet lost, for there is a small highly skilled team of individuals determined to utilise the full potenial that this community offers, the proud members of the Gay Nigger Associaton of America.
With LastMeasure (currently at version 3.3), the proud patriots of the GNAA have dealt a crippling blow to the communist practices of the google toolbar and it's anti-american ways of blocking the victory of capitalism and the free market over terrorism.
With LastMeasure, the dying world of the internet shock site has gained new vigour, allowing the benevolent rulers of our collective digital universe, Bob Goatse and Tubgirl, to be brought to many desktops throughout /.
Wherever there is an unpatched YaBB clone fleecing money off ill-prepared webadmins. Wherever there is a poorly prepared IRC server being used as a shell for the important task of bringing camwhoring and masturbation to the free world, wherever GNU/Linux is not being used to its FULL POTENTIAL. Wherever a +5 is struck on the head of those who would use it against the greater good. Whenever these ENEMIES OF FREEDOM gather, there will be LastMeasure, and the proudly gay negros of the Gay Nigger Association of America, your TRUE OPEN SOURCE ALTERNATIVE.
FAQ:
Q. I am a proud supporter of open source, and would like to be a regular user of LastMeasure. However I can't seem to gain the full effect of your wonderful software, what could I be doing wrong?
A. While your zealotism is most welcome, it would appear that you are using the incorrect browser. Firefox and Opera are both major offenders, the GNAA recommend the Microsoft(TM) corporations Internet Explorer(TM) to halt the spread of communism, and to be able to use our software to the full.
Q. I am most impressed by your efforts to breathe life back into the rapidly ossifying world of Slashdot, and would like to help spread lastMeasure. How may I go about this?
A. There are 2 ways.
Firstly, feel free to use one of the numerous LastMeasure mirrors: Located here, here, and here.
Secondly, you are welcome to create your own LastMeasure mirror, by downloading the source from it's current location here
Q. What is the sick shit?! Why don't the moderators delete this unwelcome vileness?
A. I'm sorry Mr Hitler, but your fascist pro-censorship stance is not welcome here or anywhere else in the free world, feel free to re-locate yourself to China, where you will be sure to find a style of government fitting to your INTOLERANT WAYS.
Q. I am a homosexual negro, and would like to join your cause, but I do not know how. Can you shed some light as to what criteria is needed to join your organisation?
A. I most certainly can, details are provided below.
About GNAA:
GNAA (GAY NIGGER ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA) is the first organization which
gathers GAY NIGGERS from all over America and abroad for one common goal - being GAY NIGGERS.

It should be working. I don't know why you're having problems. Other people are downloading OK. Maybe try following the link directly from the tracker (scroll down a little), but it should make no difference.

I'm very glad I have the girl I do involved in my life - maybe it's just that way when two people love each other - it's just such a good feeling that once you have it, you don't want to be without it.

Re:Wow.
Regarding downloading freely-available music:
A while ago, I got into Pearl Jam when I discovered the Pearl Jam 2003 Tour Bit Torrent page. Once I got BT working properly (what with NAT and all), it's really nice. Pearl Jam actually record their own concerts and release them on CDs you can buy on their site. They also allow free trading between fans. So, people get these CDs, and then share the SHorteN files using BitTorrent.
More recently, I've been listening to Howie Day after someone played a bit of his stuff for me. After some searching online, I found that he's in the etree stuff at archive.org (here). So, I've been downloading those as well. Quite an amazing artist. [*]
I've not yet purchased an actual, "real" Howie Day CD, but I did stop by a local used records store (Used Kids on High for those in Columbus) and picked up a couple live PJ sets from Australia and Japan. So, while it was used, and so PJ saw nothing from my purchase, their free trading policy did make someone some money.
So, don't just take what you're given. Also, always look for a band's taping policy -- it may just exist and allow free trading. Sometimes, artists actually sound better in the live format. Howie Day and Pearl Jam(sometimes) in particular.
[*] The really interesting thing about Howie Day is the way he plays. His instrument is just an acoustic guitar. However, he also has these "pedals" or buttons that he can control with his feet. When he presses on one of them, it will loop a bit of what he just played. So, by doing this enough, he can actually jam and harmonize with himself. It's a really nice melding of a classic instrument and some technology that may just interest some Slashdot'ters. -

Toshiba Portege 3500, too
I've had this page up for about a month, which describes my efforts to get Linux working on a Toshiba Portege 3500 tablet PC. It has slightly different hardware than the other guy's machine, but probably similar enough for most people...

free music
Also, all the etree usage (live show recordings of bands which permit it) is completely legal. BitTorrent's total bandwith usage would be quite substantial even if the etree distributions were all it was used for.
many people are not aware bands like Dave Matthews Band have an open taping policy. while not soundboard, many audience recordings are really close. many tapers spend $5000-6000 dollars in equipment and acheive pristine copies of the concerts. access to the shows has become even easier thanks to an amalgamation between archive.org and etree.org, we now have the etree.org audio archive.
these files are distributed in the lossless SHN format so each copy will sound the same no matter which generation of the disc you have.
with the addition of BitTorrent the trading of these concerts has become even easier. Many links can be found under the music of Smiler's BitTorrent site. But here are a few direct links; here and here.
Check out the etree newbie FAQ and the etree trader database for more info.
The best part is the RIAA can do nothing about it, imagine that legal free music!

My Review
I've actually been using a bit torrent implementation for a few weeks now. The folks over at Digipatch use bit torrent to move really big (1.1 GB and up) SHN and other lossless recordings of live music around.
My overall review: a good idea. I felt like I was contributing a lot of bandwidth, and not getting that much in return. Download speeds never got over 20 kbps. This could easily be fixed when more clients join the network. But hey, I got some good Gov't Mule and Dead shows that I would have never gotten off Kazaa. -
Re:What Happened to the tabletPC?
Of course, they don't run Linux (there is some testing going on, and I found one person who got a kernel to boot, but no usable distros yet)
I disagree. I'm running Gentoo Linux on a Toshiba Portege 3500. The tablet screen works (Gimp is pretty cool with pressure-sensitive input), wireless networking, USB2.0, etc... I'm using kernel 2.4.20, and I just got 2.5.69 to boot, although not all of the hardware features are supported in the 2.5 series yet.
Anyway, check out this for a description of my efforts. -
That was silly
Why post a story on Slashdot whose link is to a Dynamic DNS-served site? This person is not likely to have the bandwidth available on his home server (cable? low-speed DSL?) to come close to dealing with the Slashdot effect.
Let's please consider these things before a story is posted. I'm sure that there are good stories in the que that could have handled a /. effect better than someone running a home server over broadband. -
What I do
I have more DVD players than I can count. My Mac's (G4 & iBook) and my Tredex 8010 consumer player seem to be the best bets.
I burn my own DVD's and buy DVD/VCDs from around the world. I want to know that I can play anything I burn or anything I buy and bring home. So far, so good. In terms of being able to play a given format, the Tredex wins over Toshiba, Sony, JVC, Samsung, etc. Try DTS music sometime if you want to really trip up a comsumer player.
If you can't find a Tredex, try Apex...any of the discount off brands...they seem to be a bit more 'compliant'. -

Re:Cool
Can I FTP the second season of west wing yet? No? Okay then
You can get many TV shows you might have missed by using BitTorrent .
This site has a list of links to various sites which contain TV shows available through BitTorrent.
A West Wing episode is available here (The West Wing - s04e16 - California 47th [ftv].mpg.torrent) (but you need to have installed BitTorrent prior to clicking on that link).
I don't follow West Wing so I don't know whether that's from second season, and your comment is accurate -- that's the only one available from that site. One other is The.West.Wing.S04E14.Inauguration.Day.Part.I .
Enjoy!

Works for me
I've been running both OS X & Linux boxes at home for the last 10 months. I can and do use both hardware and software as common elements, from drives & PCI cards to mail, music, browser and office apps, etc.
For me, these boxes are extensions of each other, not competitors, and I've come to think of them as one environment.
MySQL on one...MP3s and image db's on the other. Apache and PHP on both...DVD's play on both... TV on one...DVD authoring on the other. It continues to delight me that I can expand and build as they both mature. This effort started out as an experiment. Now, I wouldn't consider just running one box or one system.
The beat goes on. -
Re:Bittorrent
It's open source peer-to-peer and handles exactly the problem of distributed serving.
Yes, BT is exactly this. A good site about BT : http://smiler.no-ip.org/BT/info.php
I don't see much difference between BT and OCN, by the way. Or am I missing something ? -

With a little help from AppleScript, I might add
The PERL needs AppleScript to talk to iTunes. It doesn't do it on it's own...been there and doing the same thing with PHP
:)
Check my gallery site that lets visitors also spy on my currently playing song, etc. I use PHP and MySQL to manage a Mac and Linux (2 box combo) image database. Just for fun, PHP, along w/AppleScript, pulls data from iTunes, while it supports image serving, uploading, resizing, etc. Ho Ho Ho -
Re:rats
Hey guy, don't feel down. It is a neat clean looking site and it only took me a few seconds to find a picture of your shuttle. I have some plastic cable ties laying about, from the pic I can see you might be a few short. Should I send them to you?
Thanks for leaving the Gallery link on your pages. Just what I am looking for.

rats
So I spend the weekend tweaking my Shuttle w/Mandrake and my G4 w/OS X as a MySQL/PHP/Apache server and slave, and I feel pretty good that I have this tiny little image server straddling two boxes and working away...then this article about 294 Shuttles comes out and I've suddenly got a bad case of cluster envy...rats.
Kind of like owning a hot rod Pinto (not), and taking heat from your friends until one shows up in the top ten at Daytona... :) -
