Are you kidding? xkcd is total shit. Let me sum it up for you: whimsical stick figures white knighting on the internet!!!!! But with pop culture references!!!!! LOLOLOLOL. Penny Arcade is better, but the blogs are frequently better than the actual strips. PhD comics is alright, but it's not exactly what I'd call great.

Let me introduce you to a real webcomic: The Parking Lot is Full.

Honorable mention to Gone with the Blastwave, Sexy Losers, and Perry Bible Fellowship, even though PBF is a pretty much a ripoff of PLIF. Still, it ripped off the best, so it gets an honorable mention.

If you're into insipid, warmed-over Monty Python references and "internet culture", then SMBC is probably what you're looking for. It's alright. It's shitloads better than xkcd, at least. And there's no desperate, low self-esteem white-knighting, which is a huge bonus. There's also Bob the Angry Flower, if you crave nerd humor that's got more substance than someone making fucking graphs.

I could mention a few others, but I was never that big a fan of Ghastly's Ghastly Comic (maybe you need to be a weeaboo to really love tentacle rape jokes... and Sexy Losers did it all first). There's also Subnormality, if you don't mind preachy, TL;DR strips about the totally wacky and off-the-wall adventures of a sphinx that -- get this -- likes to EAT PEOPLE!!!! LOL. What craziness!

But, really, xkcd is total shit.

Definitely. I went through a minor version of this a couple of years ago due to repetitive motion disorder ... He'll start slow but if he practices he'll get good enough in no time.

As for being offended or amused, Sexy Losers is hands down the greatest web comic evar! Clay is a comic genius. The only comic that comes close to being as great is Ghastly's Ghastly Comic.

Populous II taught me about reproduction, the relationship of people to their god, and landscaping! The Incredible Machine was a 100% accurate physics simulation, including trampolines that impart energy to objects that strike them. Space Quest taught me plenty about security, resourcefulness, and the capacity of my pockets. Oh, and not to disrespect janitors.

Before that, SimCity taught me that even with infinite money, running a successful city is still hard. There's nothing like a 20-lane highway to ease your troubles!

Maybe The Sims is a better representation of interpersonal relationships than Strip Poker. If you get that joke, god, you're old. :)

Before anybody accuses me of being a snob, I wish to point out that my absolute favorite online comic is the offensive, gross, disgusting, tasteless -- and extremely funny -- Sexy Losers.

Sometimes, when noone's around, I check out the SexyLosers (NSFW) comic. It has the some of the weirdest NSFW humour ever. Again, be warned, this is not for the faint of heart.

I'd take a once a month (if you are lucky) gem like Sexylosers over something that's updated just for the sake of it. Clay (aka Hard) sends a mail out when he's finished a comic, and it's always a pleasant surprise. Be warned it's the least work-safe comic imaginable - the warning says If you are offended at all by full nudity (both sexes), images of sex involving consenting adults, images of sex involving only one person, risque humour or human secretions of any kind, this is NOT the site for you.

Wigu does manage to be good every weekday, but it takes something special to keep that work rate up, which might be why Wigu has just reinvented itself for the 2nd time, becoming "Magical Adventures in Space", now that the Wigu Tinkle storyline has reached it's natural conclusion... still full of topatoey goodness though!

The other one I check every day apart from the usual Dilbert (ocassionally very funny - but a lot less often these days) User Friendly (thank goodness for ad blocking!) and Diesel Sweeties is Scary Go Round which is beautifully crafted, and has a quirky English humour that appeals to me, being a quirky Englishman.

Only half apropos to the topic at hand, but the double-standards imposed by women is a good point to make. Besides, you just can't help but get a good laugh out of that comic! :)

Now what's wrong with dead people and naked chicks?

While I like very much the concept of PayPal - which allows me to quickly send money without revealing my CC number, they do behave like nasty monopolists and terminate accounts without telling the reason why.

Look what they did to Clay, the artist of Sexy Losers - they terminated his account just like that, without explaining anything besides claiming he violated their TOS.. and they did that to many other people.

I should point out that I didn't even consider uploading anything indecent until I was warned against doing so. What the hell can be indecent about a face? Then I thought about it for a minute. Hey, what celebrity does my ass most resemble? A bit more thinking, and I realized that I could get instantly matched to Darl McBride by uploading a pic of my schlong.

On a more general note, non-face-specific image recognition software would be handy to have for a lot of reasons. I'm envisioning an object recognizer, where you take a picture or scan of, say, a circuit board. It could spit back something like "That's a SB16 ISA PNP, drivers are www.some.where and compatibility info is www.over.there"

Such a system would need a distributed database, I don't think it would make sense to centralize it. With the right moderation system, you might even be able to keep every circuit board from matching a porn site. ;)
