In honor of Pi day...
There's this great, almost hypnotic clip that has been on the most viewed list at YTMND for several days now. I find myself just sitting there browsing the web with it playing the song in the background, and now that it IS Pi Day I bet it gets even MORE views... pi.ytmnd.com

Re:Indie gamesI suppose I'd rather load [organizer software, web browser software, IRC software, audio and video playing software, and drawing software] onto my mobile phone for various reasons. Not everybody uses a mobile phone as his or her primary telephone. I'm on Virgin Mobile's $20 every 3 months plan because I don't need a lot of minutes; I use my Audiovox 8610 phone only for urgent situations, such as getting a ride home, and a land line for most else. It's a rawther bare-bones phone, with no calendar functionality. What smart phone on what U.S. network works with such bargain-basement prepaid service plans? Google finds this discussion and this article, and they don't sound hopeful. One of them being not looking stupid when checking my appointments and stuff in front of other people. What specifically makes a white DS Lite look dumber than a typical flip phone or smart phone? Unlike the Game Boy and the original style DS, the DS Lite has all its Nintendo logos on the bottom of the unit. So is it the D-pad and buttons? PDAs and phones have some semblance of those. Is it the two screens? For everything else, get a PC or a Pocket PC. Google Products says a Pocket PC ($450 to $500) costs two to three times as much as a GP2X or DS (each about $180). Why is that?

Re:The irony is that it is great for TetrisI love Tetris. I love the fact that there are so many versions of it available that I can choose my favorite. I loved the C64 version from 1987 (especially the music) and I love many of the versions available today (which tend to have better playability). Since when does the requirement for infinite spin make playability "better"? Or which versions are you talking about?
-
I'm ridin' T-spinners, they don't stopTetris was added to EMACS?
But that highlights Mr. Pajitnov's real complaint: If it doesn't have infinite spin, it ain't Tetris.
Seriously: M-x tetris and see for yourself. -
When The Tetris Company screws with TetrisTetris. 'nuff said Apt analogy. As Shakespeare had Bowdler's edition, so has The Tetris Company been screwing with the game's formula, producing things like
- infinite spin (explained),
- spin triples (explained), and
- a randomizer that lets you play forever (explained part 1 and part 2).

Men Who Care
http://orangehammer.ytmnd.com/
This clip is a guy screaming his head off as his guild nears victory and then kills Ragnaros in World of Warcraft for the first time (and lots of his guildmates cheer too.)
Somehow, I can't imagine many women getting THIS worked up over what amounts to some orange pixels on a screen. -
Re:Risky Business
sure, if it helps. You may also use one of these in case you are only able to wave your hands like you do care.

print - radio - tv - internet - "convergence"
the Internet is just another distribution method, the beauty of the 'net is that it is inexpensive for individuals to have their own "station" (blog, youtube channel, whatever)
The 'net has/is fundamentally changing "media" in general (Dave Winer has been writing about this for sometime) - so the question is probably moot. as others have pointed out, there is a tv/web convergence going on
the "old media" (good ol' Time magazine) had "You" as the "person of the year" last year - recognizing the "user generated content" phenomenon
anyway, I still think ytmnd is funny

Re:Larger than a whale?
What next, a volcano with an area larger than 100 elephants?
That would be a pretty big volcano - remember, elephants are larger than the moon!
(yes, I know it's a hoax, but it's still pretty funny) -
Re:What the point of having gold...
if there's nothing to spend it on! That's the reason why the cap was hit, there's no large mansions, yachts, or expensive prostitutes.
Well, you're right in that there's no large mansions or yachts, but there are indeed expensive prostitutes. -

Razor blades dar numa numa yayHow many of the music/videos on your Romanian server are actually produced in Romania?
Razor blades dar numa numa yay
Nu ma nu ma iei, nu ma nu ma nu ma iei
Keep her down, she's like a slutty dame
Now I'm impressed, they all keep payingAt least that's what Romanian sounds like to me.
US of A invests huge amount of money into producing top quality music, videos, and other intellectual property. "Intellectual property"? What do patents, trademarks, and trade secrets have to do with the present discussion? There is nothing wrong with wanting to be paid. Other than that I have trouble finding a grocery store where some of the money that I pay for groceries doesn't go to the major record labels' affiliated music publishers for the background music that they play over the loudspeakers. -
Colonyyy!Or as it's known internally 'BG2 with facial expressions'. So are they using the "Colonyyy" engine?

The Tetris Company: It actually breaks TetrisOh and Tetris on the VC. Since 2001, The Tetris Company has dictated three new game rules in all new versions, which many critics consider to be game-breaking problems: People have even resorted to making fan games such as Heboris Unofficial Expansion and Lockjaw that let the user specify exactly how "broken" or not-broken he wants the game to act.

ProvenanceAnd that's different from downloading it how? A recording from cable TV and an identical recording from PP2P2P2PP2P may be bitwise identical, but one is legal and the other is not. Unlike patent law and trademark law, copyright law considers provenance. If you time-shift from cable TV, your use is likely fair. Sony v. Universal. But if you record from someone else's computer, it is not.

Did Episode III redeem the series?
-
PP2P2P2PP2PFor example. Dokuro-chan, the Club to Death Angel. Holy hell, are you in for it. That storyline will drop your jaw to the floor with it's near-pedophile intent. So is there any way that people outside Japan will see it other than PP2P2P2PP2P?

WRONG
Wal-Mart sells physical items. When you steal a physical item from Wal-Mart, someone looses money. When you copy information from someone, they still have everything they did before and suffer no loss. It's your pencil, your blank piece of paper. You should certainly be allowed to write whatever you want on it. You should certainly be allowed to hand out copies of that piece of paper without worrying about a $10,000 lawsuit. Intellectual Property law does nothing but hinder the growth of the publics' intellect.
The original purpose of copyright was to motivate people to produce creative works. It was not intended for these creative works to be restricted from public use until 70 years after the death of the author of the work. We also notice all over the internet that people are creating all sorts of creative works with no compensation. Look to sites such as jamendo, YTMND, or Something Awful. Look at all of the hundreds of thousands of blogs. Look at the Free Software movement. All of these communities are built upon sharing information and media with the community. There is no form of compensation to the users of these communities, yet they still produce works. There is no need for copyright. -

You can't download Dokuro-chan w/o PP2P2P2PP2PSome people immediately associate P2P with illegal activity. Can't they at least take away that bit of the inevitable PR campaign against the new "P2P" protocol? It depends on what Dokuro-chan says.

Tetr[omino tenn]isI doubt they are really worried about non-commercial homebrew games, since they are very unlikely to match up to commercial games. Define "match up". Do you mean graphically, or otherwise? A lot of people are sick and tired of Tetris Holding changing the rules of Tetris to allow things like infinite spin, spin triples, and a randomizer with a nearly foolproof method to play forever. That's why they play fan-made tetromino games capable of implementing old and new rules, such as Lockjaw and Heboris, just like people still play court tennis the way it was before it became lawn tennis.

Do a barrel roll!and R2/L2 (rotate camera) could be mapped to R/L
... losing R1/L1 (roll left/right, which I never used afaik.) Unless you do a barrel roll like in Star Fox 64 (press L or R twice!), and you turn the camera by holding L or R. -
