Re:A politician holding someone accountable?
So you're telling me a CEO who is sitting on top of a corporation, who is multiple layers of operations removed is to be held responsible for data leaks?
Yes.
Sort of like how the military is happy to fire a base commander after a serious fuckup. The commander might not have done the fuckup himself, but he was in charge of those who were, so his career is effectively ended.

You've been told everything you have the security clearance to know.

No, that's not what I did at all. I want some evidence of good faith, of which there has been none.

Re:AOC
Story that says differently. AOC stole $1 million out of her campaign and pocketed it for personal use, hasn't been charged.
You're grossly mischaracterizing the Fox News story. Here's what it actually says:
- Saikat Chakrabarti (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez' chief of staff) transferred $885,000 from two PACs to two LLCs he controls.
- Such transfers (even large ones) are not uncommon.
- The PACs claimed the transfers were for "strategic consulting".
- The complaint (and that's all it is right now) alleges that this was an attempt to dodge FEC reporting requirements.
- The complaint was filed by the National Legal and Policy Center, a Virginia-based conservative organization. So no, AOC did not "steal" money from her campaign and pocket it "for personal use". And it's hardly outrageous that she hasn't been charged, because at this point it's still just a complaint.
Reactions from several former FEC officials appear to be mixed. Chakrabarti has been very forthcoming with explanations of what he did and why. So it doesn't appear he's trying to hide anything.
TL/DR: this looks complicated, but let's not jump to conclusions.

We all know if you are a DNC supporter, you can break the laws and not be charged. Thanks Somollett! So there you go, AOC did it illegally, not charged. It appears Sanders did it also, not charged. Selectively applied laws
The city will unofficially imply there's wiggle room, saying it only enforces certain ordinances against 'bad operators,' but that leaves businesses subject to shifting political winds
The real problem is that the laws nowadays are being applied selectively. Officials allow their political allies to violate the laws, but strictly enforce the same regulations against their political opponents. You can especially see this in the way that online mobs and violent protests are being dealt with: conservatives will excuse the alt-right mobs, and liberals will excuse the social justice mobs.
Personally, I feel that this should violate the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution, which guarantees all persons "equal protection of the laws".

Why would we, when Venezuela is overwhelmingly capitalist? A fact highlighted by right wing media when oil prices were still high:

Stop projecting. Sad!
"CNN "journalists" like Anderson Cooper describe themselves as unbiased newsmen reporting facts, when they are unapologetically regurgitating DNC taking points and injecting personal bias."
Same as Fox.
CNN isn't better than Fox. But as bad as both are, NEITHER is simply a propaganda front like these websites are.
"The people you listed describe themselves as opinion commentators."
Where exactly does describe it as just 'opinion' ?
https://www.foxnews.com/shows/..."There is absolutely nothing unethical about what they do."
They deliberately and knowingly lie and spread misinformation. Is that ethical?
Now CNN's full of opinion peddlers too who are equally out to lunch. Fox used to be way worse than anything on the left, but I honestly can't say that anymore. Its just as bad now. But lets not pretend the GOP is just catching up. It's the other way round.

Re:Why can't they assess the situation better?
Lots of points of response here.
"Rather than going in guns blazing and injuring people with excessive force, why not just pull the car over and talk to the people?"
First, considering no guns were fired, "blazing" might be a touch overstated, yeah?
Secondly, they DO 'just pull the car over and talk to people' thousands and thousands and thousands of times per day. How many times do you think that makes the news?"If they are going to be violent or belligerent it would be quite obvious."
Really? You know that from your EXTENSIVE experience as a police officer? Here's a very recent case (sadly, it's not hard to find lots and lots of examples) where a cop bodycam shows her 'just talking to the guy' ...who then proceeds to surprise her by pulling out a gun and trying to murder her. Watch the video, was it obvious to you? Because it wasn't obvious to this trained officer. (Spoiler - she's fine, she unloads an entire magazine into the guy and he's - happily - quite dead.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
Oh here's another:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
Or another:
https://www.foxnews.com/us/har...What strikes ME about all of them is how actually polite and non aggressive and under-paranoid these cops are all being?
I think by the news media playing up incidents like this, it wrongfully portrays cops as constantly looking for violent confrontations. I think it's extremely easy to backseat quarterback these sorts of circumstances from the comfort of your easy-chair at home. Finally, in re the OP it's either a STAGGERING coincidence that someone whose entire gig is fighting license plate readers happens to be pulled over by cops using a license plate reader in the most anti-cop, anti-establishment city in the US' or it's something more suspicious.

Yeah, American prisons are all about loving care, afternoon naps and breast feeding.
make our neighbourhoods shitholes
The people living in a neighbourhood make it good or bad. You live in yours; guess who makes it a shithole.
-
Re:Idiocracy.
The problem is not with the math, policing, the dataset. A criminal already has their data in the system.
Yeah they already have a Social Security Number.
Better detection will find the criminals, illegal migrants.
No better policework will catch the criminals. Police work. You know that thing that you're supposedly paying them for and bitch about how much it costs in taxes?
Slowly inner city areas see a reduction in crime. Fewer part RV, less waste and trash in streets. Fewer tents.
No. That occurs with a better economy. Guess what? Despite what the orange idiot you keep cheering for has said, it's crap.
Investment and tourism returns. Full gentrification sets in. Rents go up.
Now you're just living in a fantasy world. Crime isn't caused by "born-criminals" nor illegal immigrants. Crimes are caused by lack of legal opportunity, and stratification. I.e. Claiming you're above helping out another person because of the number of zeros, or lack thereof, in your bank account.
You want crime to go away? Quit being a selfish dick. It doesn't matter how many cameras you have, nor how many police officers are on the beat. At the end of the day, when you face down the business end of a shotgun barrel, the only thing that will let you live is the compassion the person holding the gun has for your life. Not any magic incantations, praying, or asswipes on a piece of paper made by a politician, compassion is all that matters. That's true of lesser crimes too. How bad are you going to feel about stealing that pack of gum? How about robbing that bank? Or driving over the speedlimit? How much do you justify putting yourself above others in each of those instances? Fix that, and you'll fix a whole lot of problems not just the criminal ones. Don't fix it, because you want to continue being a selfish dick, and don't be surprised when others return the favor.
Criminal know that cant just wonder around now safer city areas as they get detected and searched.
And as a result criminals are now much more likely to "tie up loose ends" and make more dangerous decisions to avoid being detected / searched. After all if no witnesses live to call the police, the criminals have more time to get away. If they take out the traffic cameras by causing a blackout at a nearby hospital, they can cover their tracks easier. If they kill you and take your car for their getaway, it's less likely to be flagged by a license plate scanner during their escape. Of course this also means heavier weaponry is needed by criminals to expedite these new tactics, which means there's even less of a chance of you doing anything to stop them, and it "necessitates" similar weaponry build ups with the police, while enraging the "Gun Ban" crowd even more and giving them more ammo to hit lawmakers with. Way to go dick, you've made the situation worse for everyone.
A set number of city police can then enforce city laws. Less non criminals get matched as the tech is improved all over the USA.
Because having less police do the work and moving it all to machines is the answer huh? If that thing ever gets hacked, I hope you speak binary.
Criminals and illegal migrants find their fake ID no longer work as well as they did for decades.
Hey mouthbreather, the site you're looking for is over there.

Re:That is a great idea
but honestly if I were a cook I would welcome something that alerted me if I could be doing better with food safety
And yet there are probably thousands and thousands of cooks who don't give a shit about food safety.
Like, oh, these idiots.
As much as I think this surveillance by AI and app is a little creepy, I as a customer have seen enough things from the dining room to know that not everyone who works in a restaurant knows or cares about food safety.
A few months ago, the wife and I tried a new restaurant for brunch. We were like "meh, it's a middling breakfast buffet, but it's affordable and not terrible". After we had eaten, I looked over and one of the waiters was standing in the door to the kitchen with his back to the dining area clipping his nails. And you pretty much knew those were just flying off into the kitchen.
I could tell, because pretty much only nail clippers sound like that.
As I was paying our bill, I discretely told our waitress that clipping nails in a kitchen was a good way to get your kitchen closed, and that unfortunately we would not be coming back, ever. There are no second chances when I see shit like that.
I've been in restaurants and had to tell the wait staff there was neither soap nor paper towel in the men's room, despite having seen kitchen staff going to that bathroom. Wait, what, there is no soap of paper towel but your cooks are using that bathroom and going back to work?
I've been to restaurants where within a few hours everyone at the table was having the same intestinal issues.
You give far too much credit to people wanting to do better or even caring. Half the time they know better, but don't give a fuck, and it's not easy to tell which places are which.

Re:Now. How many average Americans miss it?
The problem with your examples are things that can (and in some cases actually ARE taken care of via private contractor).
Guess what happens when the program isn't funded? The contractors can't do it either because they can't get paid for it.
The contractors also will not get back pay.
As for the 800,000 people? What promise was broken? Did the government suddenly pass a law stating that these people had universal and irrevocable employment until the end of time?
We, through our elected representatives, promised we'd pay them for their work. We aren't paying them for their work. Hell, we are requiring that many of them work for free.
But as I said, you Randians are really not all that big on keeping your promises.
Are these people going to be paid for time they didn't work ANYHOW when the shutdown is over?
Again, that has to be explicitly appropriated. There's no guarantee it will be. Also, those contractors you are so fond of will not be getting paid and never got paid during any previous shutdown.
"Not guaranteed"
https://www.foxnews.com/politi... [foxnews.com]
You were saying?
Still not appropriated. It's not actually guaranteed until it is. This bill is as binding as legislation declaring National Taco Day.
But, you think calling and dealing with your creditors, as opposed to just ignoring it and hoping it'll end five minutes ago, might give them some breathing room?
You've never had to deal with unhappy creditors in your life, have you?
Also, which creditor do they call when they have that pesky desire to eat?

And they are going away
Not only are Saturn's rings young, but it appears they are going away soon (astronomically speaking), so if you think about it we are all kind of amazingly lucky to be around while they are here to admire the amazing beauty they offer!
It also completely removes any inhibitions to mine them for valuable resources.

Ps here's Obama's border chief
Ps here is Obama's border chief talking for about four minutes about the change in rhetoric from the Democrat leadership. He points out that in 2014 the Democrat leadership was calling it a border crisis and saying we needed a wall. As you know, years later they did a 180.
I don't necessarily agree or disagree with either position. What I personally think wouldn't fit on a bumper sticker, or in a tweet. I do think it's worthwhile to know their positions.

:) Found that pretty interesting in itself, very much so.
I did catch one mistake in my post(s), it was 8.5% of under 65 that sent fake news. And this if funny too... on another site they talk about parties. 4% of dems and 18% of republicans shared fake news... saying due to Trump stuff.
https://www.theverge.com/2019/...
And then on Fox News, they have a partial article that totally omits the 4% dems vs. 18% repubs. I find it hilarious, as more of a moderate myself, that Fox would leave out that stat but post most of the rest. The biased news on both sides is just sad... you have to laugh some so you don't cry. Anyway, stop reading the news, it'll ruin your day!

It's a good thing....
(Sarcasm intended.) It's a good thing that these problems were found in defensive systems, thus ensuring that Mutually Assured Destruction can continue to be our world security policy.
Even though this security audit found numerous problems, surely none of this kind of stuff is going on in our country's offensive ballistic missile systems.
...and it's not as if we have a President that goes around goading other country's rulers to lob a nuclear missile or few in our direction, so we have nothing to really worry about. On North Korea, it's clear that we have a very decisive and insightful President who is doing a great job staying on top of their development of new sites for launching nuclear weapons: "Maybe they are. Maybe they’re not. I don’t believe that. I don’t. And, you know, could. And which is — if it — if that’s the way it goes, that’s the way it goes. You know, I go with the way we have to go," [ Trump interview on Fox News with Chris Wallace, November 2018 https://www.foxnews.com/transc... ]
Besides, these defensive systems already fail about 20% of the time on carefully structured tests where everything is tuned up and the brass is watching, so we already knew we couldn't depend on them. https://www.mda.mil/global/doc...

Re:911?
Yeah, but they don't want suicides clogging the phone lines and blocking "actual" emergencies. That's what they're trying to say by creating a separate hotline.
But that's the situation already.
If you dial 911 to report being suicidal, they transfer you to the suicide prevention hotline.
The 911 line is "blocked" all of 30 seconds. And before you say that's 30 seconds too many, don't forget that providing a direct number for suicide would have no effect on the massive amount of other calls that do and will continue to block up 911 resources. Such as:
Nearly half of 911 calls being accidental, a good part of which are butt dials
https://www.cnn.com/2015/10/05...Drug dealers calling 911 to report their drugs being stolen
https://www.foxnews.com/us/sel...And people calling 911 because McDonalds ran out of chicken nuggets
https://www.cnn.com/2017/06/13...Compared to such things I have a hard time believing anyone at a 911 call center would complain more about having to redirect a call to a suicide hotline.

Fake news vs paridoy
There are some "New sources" that seem like fully legitimate news sources however if you reads their terms of use " Company furnishes the Company Sites and the Company Services for your personal enjoyment and entertainment." Or in general stating what they say may not be true, as it could be parody. Then there is a wide range of editorial comprehension of the news, where peoples personal feelings of the news gets expressed, often by stating a sentience in a different way, such as "Government Shutdown" vs "Government Slowdown" vs "Placing a hold on paying most bills until a budget is signed"
We also have incomplete and often inaccurate "Breaking News" which is stating what it known at the time, and normal mistakes do happen in the news as well. -

Sanders is corrupt
Good ole' Bernie Sanders.
Before 2016, net worth of $300k. A "common folk" guy. I disagreed with his issues, but other than that I thought he was an ok guy.
Loses rigged primary to Clinton, and doesn't say anything about it (I think he quietly filed a lawsuit against DNC, not sure what happed with it).
Since then he buys a $600k beach house the month after he loses, with CASH! WTF? He didn't have that much cash 6 months earlier.
Today I see he spent $300k on private jet flights in ONE MONTH story according to FEC submissions.Yea, little ole Bernie. He questionably loses a primary to Clinton, and SUDDENLY he is buying mansions and flying everywhere in private jets. Meanwhile he is doing nothing for you. He ran to cash out in the cess pool of corruption that is the DNC in DC. Oh, and his wife also appears as corrupt as hell as well.
Sanders is as corrupt as they come. You are a fool to listen to him, but I have explained to you how your support of politicians is what is causing you the issues you keep complaining about. Sanders ran in a plan to get bribed to shut up about the rigged primary, cashed out, and is living large. You are too dumb to realize how he profited from the rigged primary that it appears he was part of.
Does ANY DNC supporter have an issue with the rigged 2016 primary? It appears they all welcomed it and cheered it along, and fully support all of those involved.

Re:WTF is "skyjacking"?
Much like the phrase "Jack the Ripper" was the creation of journalists of the time, but it's now the most-understood way to refer to that particular serial killer. The "DB Cooper skyjacking" is a similar phrase.
Thanks folks. As suspected the word appears unique to American newspaper headlines of the period (1970s), and a movie title.
It is clearer now to this confused foreigner. I guess the DB Cooper case, and attached term, must be a s famous in the US as Jack the Ripper elsewhere. But it is still not in common usage today.Wouldn't you be confused by an article that used "ripper" in place of "murderer"? Sure you get from the context that there was a murder, but be trying to figure out what specifically a "ripper" was. It would not be good writing.
Even Fox News has high enough standards to use the proper word:
https://www.foxnews.com/us/fre...Some other US sources use "skyjack" in the headline, but hijack afterwards.

The North Dakota Democraticâ"Nonpartisan League Party is running a Facebook ad in North Dakota that claims your hunting license is at risk. "Attention hunters: Voting in North Dakota could cost you your out-of-state hunting licenses," says the Facebook ad, which began running on Nov. 1.

The Facebook ad, paid by the North Dakota Democratic-NPL, warns North Dakota hunters that they may have to forfeit their out-of-state licenses if they vote in this election. âoeIf you want to keep your out-of-state hunting licenses, you may not want to vote in North Dakota,â the ad says, linking to a similar warning on the North Dakota Democratic-NPL website. âoeBy voting in North Dakota, you could forfeit your hunting licenses. Re:Did they even look ?
Banned ad on Facebook because of content.
Was paid for by an actual GOP candidate, but she was a minority. We all know how liberals are racists, so I have to assume that was why. Perhaps these reporters were all white.
Why assume when even a skim reading of the article you link gives you the answer: her ad contained images from the Cambodian genocide that were considered to be against Facebook's ToS. Oh, and the reporter of the Business Insider article appears to be a woman of South Asian descent, just like the GOP candidate in your linked article. So there goes that theory. The Vice reporter's a white guy though. I would say nice attempt at a troll, but let's be honest, it wasn't.
