Re:Decentralize it
No it isn't. The USA owns the internet.
We also own the moon -- ever since our astro men landed there and planted Old Glory firmly on the surface. -

Re:Download the damn thing
Ahh, It's not happening anymore. Heisenbug!
Or I'm missing something.... I'll be back
Ahh... now it looks like it's only videos embedded on other sites that do it. That would probably explain my account settings not being applied. I guess I can't really blame YouTube for that. I would have sworn that I also had this happen on youtube.com directly, but either A) YouTube changed their behavior or B) human memory can be flawed. Pride makes me want to think that someone at Google read my post on here and instituted a change in YouTube's behavior, but reason tells me that likely my perception was simply flawed... some combination of logical fallacies with a smattering of confirmation bias would account for that. I guess there's also A.1) YouTube happened to change the behavior and I had nothing to do with it.
Anyway, Here is an example of it happening embedded on a link (generally video) aggregator site. Hit play, then pause. The resolution should be at 360p Wait for the video to completely buffer, hit maximize and it starts all over buffering at 480p. Only seems to happen with videos that have 720p and above available. Clicking on the video takes you to the YouTube page, and this apparently does not happen there. But, you will have to rebuffer... which doesn't really bother me unless I accidentally click the video rather than the maximize button, and I'm not going to blame YouTube for that. And -
Re:Russian propaganda channel
NILF. The Oz accent is puzzling, that and the curious garb, but the news honeys do the job. As per Monty Python: "Princes had become rare, indeed, as rare as an Australian virgin." But where's the 2 minutes hate? Even a piece on the 1983 incident that brought us all to the brink of WWIII is presented in a calm and reasonable tone, with nary a bit of invective. I was hoping for something along the lines of What fits into Russia.

Re:Is there anything they won't mock?
What are you talking about? South Park caved and did a whole episode about What Scientologists Actually Believe.
You mean when they blabbed all the deep arcane inner trade secrets?
Damn, and I had my heart set on paying $100K and living as a slave on Sea Org for 5 years in order to find that out.

Penn & Teller's bullshit did a good episode a while ago: Environmental Hysteria
Many of the followers are mindless zombies. You see them pretending like they care about the environment, while sipping $4 plastic bottles of water paid for by their rich parents.

Re:Baah
Even a small accident can kill thousands of people and make a place unliveable for millions of years.
Chernobyl, by no means a small nuclear accident, has killed 56 people so far... 47 workers directly involved in the immediate cleanup from radiation poisoning and 9 children in the surrounding area from thyroid cancer due to increased iodine-131 exposure, mostly through local milk. There have indeed been many cases of thyroid cancer which have been linked to Chernobyl, but it is actually a highly treatable cancer with a very good prognosis with early detection. The rise in the most malignant cancers such as leukemia should have been seen within ten years, but there has been no statistical increase found yet. Of the pregnant women who evacuated the area around Chernobyl who elected to carry full term, there was no significant increase in birth defects or mortality found in their children.
As for making the place unlivable for millions of years? Study after study shows that after the initial death toll the wildlife took, populations have not been significantly impacted. Specimens have been taken from the area which are so radioactive that they have to be handled specially... however studies on even these animals show little to no statistical increase in DNA damage over control specimens. Often times, samples taken from areas of lower radiation exposure surprisingly showed LOWER rates of DNA damage and associated cancers than control specimens not affected by the accident... the current best supported theory of radiation hormesis is that low levels of radiation exposure trigger DNA repair mechanisms which account for this anomaly, and studies have found that proteins responsible for DNA repair are indeed transcribed at a much higher rate in mildly irradiated organisms. Basically, it has been shown that the linear non-threshold model used to predict casualties due to radiation has been shown to be invalid at exposures lower than about 100 milliSeverts.
This video from the BBC has a pretty good summary. Am I going to attempt to get irradiated? No. But the current widely held fear of low dose radiation simply is not supported by evidence, but a mathematical model which is proving to be faulty the more we look at it. -

At least in the fan film Aragon looks more like the Aragon I pictured when reading the books.

Re:I think I know what the problem is....
Product placement is when a commercial product is placed in a show.
This was a poor choice of commercial break, not a part of the show itself. -
I think I know what the problem is....
Poor product placements. No doubt the reason this show is being canceled.

Mario Culture
Now that I'm in my 30's, married with kids, I have to be a bit more "cultured" or so my wife says.
If you *must* go to "the theater" to watch a live performance, I'd recommend Mario Live!
Lots and lots more Mario fun at MilkAndCookies. Mario on two guitars is not to be missed. -

The Pinball Song
Ah yes, The Pinball Song, featuring the Pointer Sisters! (Link goes to a remix version with a remixed video as well.) If that link doesn't work, I've put a copy on my DSL. Don't hit me too hard, or I'll remove it.
Oh, and it didn't come from Sesame Street, apparently. It came from The Electric Company.
Back when I was still in college, I'd walk around the EE lab and hum a bar or two under my breath as I walked by someone. The target would often then start humming the tune and have it stuck in their head the rest of the day. Mission accomplished. :-)

Re:ATM Much
Err, yeah. Meant Oregon. That's the problem with being a visual thinker as opposed to verbal: I actually pictured a map in my head when I was trying to remember which state this was in. Ahh... and after a little research, it appears that it's not so much a job creating measure as a safety measure. Oregon (along with New Jersey) implemented the law because they only wanted professionals pumping this possibly dangerous fluid into your car. Makes a little more sense to me, although I really can't recall hearing of any accidents accidentally caused by someone pumping their own gas. I suppose it will also lead to less incidents like this.
Waaaay offtopic, but found this odd little site examining how spaghetti breaks while trying to find the video clip. (Not like I was ontopic anyways, talking about pumping gas in a barcode topic.) -

Ahem,AFAIK, mages didn't prove very successful in actual battle in real life. That's why we see so few of them in battle nowadays...
Don't count on it. This mage is very effective. (Except for the friendly fire) -
this will pass without anyone noticing
They'll only be talking about gay marriage in the news, a bill that is also scheduled to pass before summer break. -
Re:Hopefully Sarah Lane stays behind...I used to be a faithful watcher of TechTV esp. TSS. I don't care for video games and sure as hell don't have any interest in watching other people play games on TV. I curse G4 for buying out TechTV--only to kill it all (I just don't get why they even bothered). Not to mention, at least in my market, they really screwed the pooch on the channel they got. At least for my Time Warner cable, TechTV was channel 44, G4 was 143. For a little while after the merger, they had both channels but after a bit, G4/TechTV got moved to 143 and they lost the much more prime channel 44 (to BET). I don't bother surfing all the way up to 143 (only channels beyond that for me is Fine Living Channel & a few home shopping channels.
Anyway, re: Sarah & Kevin, I still watch the clip evern now and then from the fill my box bit awhile back. Laugh out loud funny every time.

Steve Ballmer, gentle?
Critics claim that today, we see a much 'gentler' side of Microsoft and Ballmer seems to have received an "A" in Wall Street's eyes."
Gentler side? Yeah....gentle like anal rape. If selling software like a used car salesman does is called "gentle", then I don't know what is. Take a look at this http://www.milkandcookies.com/links/16366/

More copied ideas
I seem to remember seeing a homemade leg-built trailer for Revenge of the Sith (Rise of the Empire) a year or two ago (I'm sure someone has a link to it). Some guy actually went through the trouble of building and animating (using the same animation style as the old school claymation movies) it all by himself. I wonder how many Lucasarts and Lego execs saw this before they jumped on the idea of turning it into a game themselves.

The only OS for POS is DOS
I'v used loads of different POS systems, both as a user and a Admin.
The best and most stable are DOS based. Running on pure DOS 6.2 or under Win98/2K..., the best and most stable was a old Dos program running under Win98 on Tills and 2K on back office, on a Novell Ver 3 (on top of Dos 6.22) on a PII servering 40+ users...
Windows versions are normally just FrontEnds for the Dos program and run a hell of a lot slower and are crap to use....
Flash on a POS the system will have tobe P4 with 1GB of Ram and ATI9800pro's......
Leave flash where is belongs..., Cartoons that are fucked up....

Re:Java still sucks with Firefox
I haven't run into any Java problems with Firefox, Java works great for me using Sun Java (1.4.2_05) on Windows XP Pro SP2. The thing that sucks for me with Firefox is Quicktime. Websites that embed Quicktime movies like Milk and Cookies and Kontraband always seem to crash my browser to the point of unrecoverability (and I am using the latest Quicktime PRO).
I am curious why you use IE for online banking, as Firefox will actually support 256bit SSL encryption if the servers certificate supports it, and will do 128bit SSL otherwise (just like IE). Why do you use IE for banking? -

Fill My BoxI bet Kevin Rose from TechTV could hit fill 100GB pretty quick if he mentioned it on TV again. Then again nobody watches anymore since they killed TechTV by merging with G4...but anyway, for a gutwrenching laugh check out the video. If you've seen in, watch it again, every time it still has me rolling...
