Myspace ad-servers to block
I have the following filters in the Firefox's Adblock extension:

http://debr.myspace.com/*
http://dehp.myspace.com/*
http://demr.myspace.com/*
http://desk.myspace.com/*

http://defb.myspace.com/*
http://desb.myspace.com/*
http://dewb.myspace.com/*
http://deeb.myspace.com/*

This filters pretty much all advertisements from myspace. Would it have protected me from this exploit, I wonder? -

The Loved Ones
My little brother's band. Please mod up, he could use the exposure and he definitely needs the money!
(note--dates from when MySpace was just a Web site for bands to share their music.) -

On the paranormal tip....
I have been on several 'ghost hunts' for a show I was editing. I witnessed first hand communication with a being. It was a very bizarre but real experience I shared with several other people. We all were amazed and didn't have any way of explaining it, it just happened. We documented it and have shown it to a bunch of our friends and family. It is always interesting to see their reactions and explanations for what they see. Most feel their is some sort of cheating involved. Now I spent a week with this Paranormal Specialist "Patty Starr", going on numerous hunts for this show. Now she is a very dedicated person and very adamant about achieving natural experiences. She is very against trying to plant or fake a paranormal activity. This communication took place the first day. We had no more experiences for three days. Now if you were a selfish person like a fortune teller, you would be looking for every chance to make something happen. Patty though was just as satisfied with receiving no results as achieving them. She even would battle abnormal activity on some of the video and pictures we took claiming it was dust or a bug flying because she knew what the actual paranormal instances look like and the properties they have. Being that I experienced several paranormal situations with her I fully believe in the concept. It is hard to explain to people but I can usually counter the people who look for instances of cheating or foul play in the footage we produced. For those who have never seen this first hand it is hard to process it I was totally skeptical at first. if you would like to see the episode we produced you can check it out at: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids

Re:MySpace
It just full of crap.
...
Can anyone point out a page that's actually worth looking at?
Here is a Myspace page kinda sorta maybe worth looking at... The Terms of Service Page. After that, it is all down hill.
Not wanting to sound like a troll, but I would describe MySpace as being something similar to the AOL effect (the legendary propensity of America Online users to utter contentless postings) plus Geocities (free websites for the masses) being applied to blogs. Sure, it gives a lot of people the means to say something on the net, but unfortunately the noise to signal ratio is very high. -
Re:Sounds Familiar
Right, Geocities did not go on to conquer the internet. Something even more kludgy and stupid than Geocities went on to conquer the internet. Your point was what, exactly?

MySpace is great
I'm 15 and myspace is great for kids like me to hang out and chat. I sometimes get help with my homework and stuff. Also I can talk to my friends and see what there doing. Also like it's a place for people to put up memorials for dead people. Like my friend Mitchell who killed himself. Like he was really depressed when his Ipod got stolen. They say he had like mental problems or something. But we didn't know. Anyway thanks to myspae we can talk to him and leave messages for him. Cause we know he be watching from heaven.

And the worst part about it...none of them friended me!
I'm totally gonna go emo!

Dear ABC - Learn from Volkswagen
While you're holding your breath, consider the following: 1. Why don't you ask the ad directors to make ads we actually might want to watch. For example, Volkswagen made some great ads that became popular as standalone downloads. Miss Helga has even become a cultural icon and even has page. The ads were some of the most popular downloads on YouTube.com The advertising model has changed - get over it and get on it. If an ad can attract more viewers than some of your regularly scheduled shows, you need to take a good look at why. The old model is no longer applicable and one could gamble and say the writing was on the wall with the advent of VHS recorders and remote controls.

Re:Woah
I would think that putting Apples market share down a couple of tens of percents would be worth a couple billion out of pocket. and I'm willing to bet MS doesn't have to pay the full dollar. It's not like their going to buy it from apple, strip the DRM and then sell it to you. the real problem will be making it any song. I mean will I be able to get unsigned bands like, say, (shameless plug alert) Dr. Doctor?

Re:It's worth how much?
I'm not an HTML expert or anything, but roughly how much does myspace.com weigh?
According to my googlebot:
[07:10:08] !google myspace
[07:10:10] [Google] #1 Myspace ( http://www.myspace.com/ ) size: 20k
[07:10:12] [Google] Desc: Meet people from your area in the country and keep in touch. Includes blog, forums, email, groups,...
20k if you consider myspace has "weight." -

Re:Get what you paid for?
your retarded myspace page says that your musical interests are as follows: Thursday, Flogging Molly, The Academy Is..., Death Cab for Cutie, Bright Eyes, Panic! At The Disco, Green Day, Brand New, The Matches, Elliott Smith, The Hush Sound.
your last.fm profile backs this up.
you have shitty taste in music, even if you hate itunes. you're an emo faggot, and you buy major label discs just like all the other emo faggots, while feeling high-and-mighty about it. whiny adults acting like whiny teens? no thanks. no have no license to an opinion on music, you smug little prick. kids like you are more loathesome than the corporations you pretend not to support. suck a dick. -
Re:How about?
"Our children" aren't being victimized. Our dumbass, horny teens are. They're old enough to know better. Show me a real kid, ie a person who is a prepubescent 11 year old or younger who has gotten really hurt this way. Where are all of the 7, 8, 9 and 10 year olds getting raped? Uh huh. It ain't children, just adolescents. People who are old enough to understand personal safety, even if they can't fully grok the ramifications of sex.
Surely you jest. The teenagers today are responsible, upstanding citizens, especially on Myspace! Why, just look at this profile!

Myspace started with a group of 20-somethings and 30-somethings from the California area(1). It was all adults when I joined around 3M. They didn't even allow kids on.

Re:MySpace
Which MySpace are you talking about? PlanetMirror's offering is the only thing I know of called MySpace which offers file hosting (100MB these days). I don't know if it's in any way related to what you're thinking about, but today's MySpace is in no way related to any file-hosting service I've ever heard of... Maybe the domain got recycled?

LMAO! -
So, you're all anti-science?
OK, not "all", a few of you seem to have your heads on straight. But most of you seem to be deeply in denial. I don't blame you; most of your blogs are likely BAD (Sorry, Joe, but your page is entirely unreadable).
Nielson's views have changed as his research (real research using scientifically sound principles). For example, in the last century he advocated, based on studies of users, that long pages were bad design. Folks didn't know how to scroll, and long pages ate some of the primitive browsers (and computers) of the time.
He's changed this. Scrolling is now part of computing, and computers can handle it. Someone please tell ZD Net and CNET and the Chicago Tribune!
I'm a former art student (note that page was written 8 years ago, and yes, not having line breaks between paragraphs IS bad design). Admittedly my instructors were minimalists. One design principle they taught is universally ignored these days: Form follow function.
One poster above mentioned designing for your prospective audience, and that's exactly correct.
My old, long-gone (it's still in the wayback machine) Quake site broke quite a few design principles, but the broken rules were broken for concrete reasons... well, usually. Some things got complaints from readers, like the animated Strogg dancing to the Quake theme. I eventually moved the music to a different page. And got rid of one of the Stroggs.
Content is king! Nobody goes to your site for the way it looks. The Prisoner's number two was right- "we want information". (and porn;)
Some of you even deny your own perceptions. Nielson is exactly right; if it's animated, it's an ad and is dismissed. I know I'm like that, and eye tracking studies show that everyone else is, too. He's done the fcking research! There's no way you can contradict that, except by pointing to conflicting research. I haven't seen any of you do that.
My old Quake site was pretty popular, considering how sparsely populated the web was, and that it was a niche site. I had a Google Pagerank of 7. Its "cheats" page is still widely plagairized (I should hire a lawyer?) and I attribute a large part of its success to the fact that I wanted it to be useable. When people wrote bitch letters, I listened and considered what they were saying.
I got a lot more letters saying how much the site rocked than how shitty it was, and quite a few mentioned how easy it was to find INFORMATION (and humor and music and gossip and links and... and...).
Slashdot has always been pretty useable.
If you have a web site or blog, you ignore useability at your own peril. Nielson has done his homework. Few of you seem to have. The major newspapers certainly haven't. -
Well they have a small paragraph in the terms...
from the myspace terms and conditions

But huh, as all the others said, you need to get a life, and if you really suck at hookin up with girls in a club or something, find yourself one on Myspace or something (whatever people say about Myspace out here it's still the best thing on internet to meet girls), unless you're married (which I hope your not)

da vinci code- do i look like an idiot
photoshop - what do i need photoshop for does it run on ubuntu?
what files are we supposed to be busy file sharing again, rather than buying ?
one point though, when it comes to sharing files the point isn't RIAA=Good music. its I like this and will share with my friends without regard for RIAA representation or not.
Lets just say RIAA gets perfect DRM its impossible to play a RIAA members track without buying it. would P2P stop or would people just share what they could? -

A great, valid source of information!
What a great source for the NSA to rely on!
Because, you know, I certainly do know all 628 people on my myspace.com "friends list"! And I'm sure it won't be confused by the fact that Lance Bass has 9 "profiles" on there (all of which say he's a different age, by the way), or the fact that Harry Potter and Malfoy are "friends" with one another in their profiles. I'm sure the NSA is keeping a full dossier on them.
Why don't all researchers rely on online profiles for their data about people? I can see the headlines now: New Study Reveals: All men have 8 inch d!cks, and all women are D-cups!

Re:Beginning to wonder if this is a fake
Well if it is that girl who is doing it for fame and fortune... then this: video really doesn't help. Do you really think the girl in that video has the intelligence to go about doing all of this? Sure, they could be acting... but somehow, I doubt that. Plus, it's in NYC, where millions of people live and could easily drive by and verify for themselves.
Cynical perhaps... Maybe NASA never did land on the moon... it was all directed by Spielberg!
