Re:Simple answer
I'm tired of waiting for the new Fallout game that does not suck and blow at the same time.

Older games
Right now I'm playing Fallout 2 with a high rez patch on a 22" LCD. I've also got a widescreen mod installed for Torment, but it works with any Infinity Engine game.

Re:It's shocking
Pete Hines: Yes, all combat is governed by die rolls. So if you fire in real time and aim perfectly, you might still fail a roll and miss your target.
Source:http://www.nma-fallout.com/article.php?id=38623
I second that I noticed that several times, that you still can miss with a perfect target. But using the sniper rifle shooter style still can give you an advantage in a plain shooter situation if you have the reflexes. There are certain weapons which work better in shooter style than in VATs style. The sniper type weapons for instance or the flamer, which is usually the close range combat option for me for groups of enemies.

Re:An intelligent game is you!
Oh, and get the Restoration Patch before playing; it fixes most of the bugs.
-
Re:An intelligent game is you!
The dialogue trees are generally better in FO2, and the free-form play is on better display there as well.
If you do pick up FO2, make sure to get the unofficial Fallout 2 patch (on top of the 1.02 patch if you didn't buy version 1.02) as it fixes most of the quirks in the second game.

Fallout
Get yourself a cheap version of the original Fallout 1 & 2. Should be around 20$US. And while your at it go to the fansite No Mutants Allowed look up the games projects that have the same non-linear spirit as Fallout: Arcanum, Age of Decadence, Zero Projekt.

Re:What happens to today's games?
Just this happened with Fallout 3 (Van Buren) years after the project was terminated...
(and we shouldn't miss an opportunity to mention that fact again and again!)

And I don't mean the Bethesda one, either.

What about a Mac version?
No Mac version

Re:Turn-based...
The people praising this trailer for being "true to Fallout" are really a mystery to me.
There's no way in hell this game will be turn-based; it's Bethesda and it's being developed first and foremost for game consoles, the larger and more profitable market. It will be a real-time FPS hybrid just like their other "RPGs".
The true Fallout 3 was the aborted "Van Buren" - a true, isometric-perspective, turn-based successor to Fallout 2 which died when Interplay axed the Troika guys. (Bugs aside, Troika went on to make the last 3 great PC RPGs before its demise. Idiocracy was correct.)
The "Van Buren" tech demo -
Re:Fallout 3 Design Documents
I would note that in addition to the original design documents, the original Fallout 3 tech demo has been leaked. That's right, it's the playable game that the original team was working on 4 years ago. It doesn't have anything to do with the new game that Bethesda is trying to build. Bethesda only came into the picture when the original company folded.

Re:Hmmm
I won't despute the lore and the quests being interresting in elderscroll games, some of the stories are even half-decent. Unfortunately nothing ties it together in a good narrative, the dialog is rotten and the NPCs are monotome at best - worse yet they're all goofy and dumb about almost everything that takes place. Of course the latter never truely comes to the test because you can't act completely morbid - and I guess Bethsoft should have the benefit of doubt.
Still, Fallout 1 is one of the few video games with a narrative that could go book or movie and come out rather good. Something no elderscroll game would be capable off, of course Fallout 2 probably couldn't either though I suppose it would make the perfect bad sequel.
Lastly, yes you should buy the original fallout games right now, I still play mine one a regular basis. Just remember to get the correct patches if you get the violated versions - available on http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php though I guess this would be illegal in a few countries where the government knows better than you. -
Fantastic - and funny. The tech demo guide is worth a read. It's good to know that those involved maintained that sense of humor that Fallout fans love about the game:
Corporal Armstrong and you will have to make due with what you can scavenge in case you encounter this threat. You will be safe once you reach the Vault, which has been created with the latest technology and incorporates redundant systems to prevent any possible malfunction.

Interplay to make MMORPG, not Bethesda
The only way i can undestand the following is that even though Interplay sold the licence they still have the right to the MMORPG and they will be making it, not Bethedsa, who will be making fallout 3.
http://www.nma-fallout.com/
Under the License Back the Company obtained an exclusive license, under certain conditions, to use the IP for the purpose of developing an Interplay branded Fallout Massively Multiplayer Online Game ("MMOG").
Interplay pledges to obtain funding for and start the development of the MMOG within two years and to successfully launch it within six (which entails securing the continual patronage of a minimum of 10,000 paying subscribers), or else forfeit this license. Some additional excerpts:
2.6 RESERVATION OF RIGHTS. Any and all rights not explicitly granted to Interplay hereunder are reserved by Bethesda.
5.3.2 Interplay shall not offer or provide any products or services whose nature or quality does not comply with the quality standards of Bethesda.
7.0 PAYMENT OF ROYALTIES. Interplay agrees to pay Bethesda a Royalty of twelve percent (12%) of the Net Cash Receipts derived from the sale and distribution of the FALLOUT MMOG, including sales of subscription fees or access fees to the FALLOUT MMOG or any other revenues generated by the FALLOUT MMOG, in the Territory during each calendar quarter following the commercial launch of the FALLOUT MMOG. -
The Fall?
How about finally releasing the English version of The Fall - Last Days of Gaia? http://www.the-fall.com/e/index.php
I mean... there is a fan-made patch but still no English version. http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action= file&file_id=861 -
There's some confusion here
First that's not an official announcement, but a SEC filling reporting the will by Interplay of raising at least 50 million (to 75 million) dollars from overseas investors to create a Fallout MORPG. Interplay today is one person, Herve Caen, and a couple of lawyers and a webmaster that do the odd job here and there. They have millions in debts to companies like Warner Brothers and their former employees, which they aren't paying, so this is an attempt to raise some money from overseas investors just to stay alive (well, sort of "alive"...). They don't have developers, they don't have staff, the last agreement they had with a MORPG company was with the developers of Ballerium, and they never paid them ( http://www.ballerium.com/community/showthread.php
? s=d493aea59c78ace9f73bb3d50b12ec34&threadid=2645&h ighlight=interplay>Ballerium ), so the project was suspended, it is being restarted without Interplay involvement. So this is not to be taken seriously, as you can see in the discussion from when the news was first released, this is just a financial move filled with vague promises and a few lies (Interplay had zero involvement with World of Warcraft, and in the filling they have the nerve to say they were involved in creating it...). Nothing really substantial has come of this and there is no guarantee that it will ever be made. More here http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3 3825 this is the original newsbit that was caught by gaming sites. -
Maybe.
Supposedly, although Bethesda Softworks licensed Fallout almost 2 years ago, it was not exclusive license, with Bioware still retaining MMO rights.
As much as I'd love to see it come out, I just know that if it does, it's going to suck days or weeks of my time that could be spent more productively. -
Re:Fallout 3?
I seen something a while ago about Bethesda picking it up: http://www.nma-fallout.com/fallout3/ It's apparently in pre-production according to the FAQ, I am really looking forward to it as well. I think they are the perfect company to develop it.

Fans have significantly patched Fallout 2
As a game developer, the community following that Fallout and Fallout 2 have sustained to this day totally amazes me. Of course when I've encountered some of the ex-Black Isle guys, I had my moments of being reduced to a fanboy as well. No offence guys
:-)
Anyway, the user community has slowly but surely reverse engineered most of the Fallout games with the intent of making mods and fixing bugs in the games. The release of the Fallout 2 Mapper (thanks to many of the former team, especially Chris A) help accelerate the process.
One of the great things that came out of their effort has been a few mods that fix most of the gameplay bugs in Fallout 2. Fixed Items, Quests, Dialog options, NPC's, missing encounters, and so on. I personally replayed the game last fall with Seraph's Fallout 2 patch, and _WOW_, what an improvement.
My recommendation: If this article made you think you would like to replay Fallout or Fallout 2, head on over to http://www.nma-fallout.com/ and dig up one the latest patches and play the game as the designers had intended it to be. -

Fallout 3
Fortunately, they've already begun pre-production on it. I'm guessing that Bethesda will start seriously working on it after Oblivion.
And yes, this is the reason my nick is PIPBoy3000. -

Fallout?
Maybe it's just me, but it looks more inspired from Fallout, than HL2 (other than the huge logo, of course). Especially the front buttons, rust, and yellow/black warning lines.

Fallout 3 WON'T Be Morrowind With Gunshttp://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=
7 969Seems like just about everyone is assuming that this is going to be just like Morrowind. Read the posts linked in the article above, and you'll see that Bethesda is making it clear that they aren't just going to be sticking Fallout stuff into the Morrowind engine. It's way too early to tell what they're going to do with it, and until we know more, it would be a good idea to avoid jumping to all these conclusions.

More info here
From HomeLAN:
HomeLAN - How much input will Interplay have in the development of Fallout 3? Can they say "yes" or "no" to things like game design, story, etc?
Pete Hines - We have complete creative control over the development of the game.
HomeLAN - Will any team members from the previous Fallout games be involved in Fallout 3?
Pete Hines - Too early to talk about stuff like that.
HomeLAN - Ok. Final question..has development of Fallout 3 actually begun and can you give us any idea of a release date?
Pete Hines - I'll take the last one first. WAY too early to talk release dates. Yeah, we've started pre-production on Fallout 3 development.
Also, from Bethesda dev Gary Noonan:
Being a developer at Bethesda, I am also a big Fallout fan. I played all of the titles from FO1 to FOBOS. Not so much a fan of FOBOs or FOT, but I did play them through. To this day, FO1 is still in my top 5 fav games, not just RPGs. The campy humor, the grotesque action, and the integrated pop culture, as well as Pip Boy (can't leave THAT out!) are what allow FO to stand out from other titles. I agree, without these, it is simply NOT FO.
Now, the fact is, this news is just that.... NEWS. I have known about this for some time now, and I have been excited about it since the deal was still in the making. I AM a fan of FO. Who better to have working on a game than a FAN.... someone who knows the game, knows what it's about, knows the mood, knows the setting and atmosphere. Now, as a new development even here in the office, it's still quite a welcoming shock and we are ALL eager to be a part of it. I can't put into words how much I am dying to be a part of it.
So, for all the existing Tes fans, welcome the FO fans. Everyone has their opinions about titles and developers.
For the FO fans joining us, give it a chance. Everyone (well, I really speak for myself) here is excited about this opportunity and it is talked about quite a bit.
And for all, let's keep it cool. As everyone who has been here for a long enough period of time knows, we developers listen to what the fans have to say. The forums are our link to hearing your thoughts and input on aspects of the titles.

Re:Think before you judge
The only problem with your analysis is that it still renders further development on my undoubtably future favorite, Fallout 3, in limbo. Interplay owns all the copyrights. Reading through some of the online chatter about the process at NMA showed that several of the people at BIS were really fired up about it, whereas management was not. Maybe people like me, who were looking forward to that game, could setup a fund drive. I wonder how much money it would take to buy the source materials that have been put into Fallout 3 so far, and turn that over to the people who still want to work on it? I wonder how many units would need to be sold to pay for those people to finish it? In this day and age of the internet, all this could be calculated and put online. If the target amount wasn't reached, perhaps the money could simply be paid to those developers anyway as a small way of getting them over the hump.

Van Buren
i stumbled onto this a while ago after hearing somewhere about Van Buren.
when Mr. Sawyer left Black Isle, i had a feelin sumthin shitty was abrew :( -
And I just heard about it, too!
I saw some of the unofficial stuff about Fallout 3 just a couple days ago and I've been drooling about it ever since. Fate is cruel. Of course, I also found this thing called IanOut, a third-party Fallout engine...

Re:Feargus + Bioware + Aurora = Fallout 3?
Fallout 3 (aka "Van Buren") is in development at Black Isle. If it's not, the unwashed masses are going to storm their HQ and go post-apocalyptic on their asses.
InXile, the new company of Interplay founder and former CEO Brian Fargo, is working on acquiring the rights to the classic 80's post-apocalyptic role-playing game "Wasteland." Fargo was one of the creators of the game. (Fans will remember his name from characters "Faran Brygo" and "Mad Dog Fargo.")
Finally, I just read on No Mutants Allowed today that there's a new post-apoc RPG called Shadow Vault in development.
Add to that Lionheart, Temple of Elemental Evil, and Knights of the Old Republic for the PC, and we should be set for awesome non-traditional hack and slash and talk and squawk action for the upcoming season! -
Fallout = Best PC series
I enjoyed every release of the Fallout series. Even though Fallout Tactics is not as much RPG as 1 & 2, I still enjoy playing it. No Mutants Allowed is an excellent Fallout resource. Maps, levels, editors, reviews, news...
