Re:What to expect..
There is past precedent here for the parent entity to be associated with sibling companies hiccups - Dogma had it's distribution sold on from Miramax to Bob and Harvey Weinstein personally, then onto Lion's Gate, all due to some Christian types screaming bloody murder for Disney's decision to distribute a steaming pile of blasphemy. When Lion's Gate picked up Dogma, the Christian protesty types declared that they had "won", while the movie still got to play in theatres (as related by Kevin Smith in his Audience With
... DVD, cf JamMovies)IMO, DNA had it spot on - who actually cares if Disney, Sony, Fox, whoever were making this movie?
Note that Yahoo! Movies has HHGTTG listed as being distributed by Touchstone, so it's likely the central Disney brand won't be used for it.

Talk about interesting shows to make movies of...
They are in the early stages of making a movie of The Greatest American Hero.

Re:No Big Deal
As Wes Bentley was up for the role originally, this may be his shot. Based on his performance in American Beauty, it could be a darker, less happy-go-lucky Spiderman, which I would enjoy.

Re:Err, Maybe It Should Be Terminator 2.5
I was under the impression that T3 was going to tell the story of Skynet coming on-line and the war - taking place entirely in the future.
That's what Terminator 4 is for.

Re:Upcoming Pixar Movies.
Upcomingmovies.com has some good info on Pixar's upcoming films:
2003: Finding Nemo
2004: The Incredibles
2005: Cars
Apparently Ray Gunn and The Incredibles were an either/or proposition, and it looks like it's going ot be The Incredibles.
Here's a good overview of Pixars plans. -

If it lives under a bridge...and smells like billy goats....
That said, I have it on good authority he's the guy who wrote the screen play for The CoreWhen something happens to cause the core of the planet to change in temperature, threatening to stop the planet from revolving, a band of NASA "terranauts" (led by a geophysics professor played by Eckhart) is formed to pilot an experimental deep-earth ship to try to fix it by setting off a nuclear detonation. (Swank plays the ship's pilot; Karyo plays a Russian "high-energy" weapons specialist; Woodard plays a NASA control chief)
It's only missing Kathy Ireland, or someone else equally interchangable, and midgets, preferably australian. -
Terminator 3
The company is currently using these machines on
... "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines."
From the CNet article
About time. I can still remember the news about how advanced the Terminator 2 movie was in terms of Computer Graphics, breakthrough bla bla blah.

- What do slashdotters think about the popularity of a serious big-budget Hollywood superheronie movie?
Given the popularity of Alias, if Jennifer Garner doesn't get an Elektra spinoff from Daredevil then I'll be very surprised. However, if she does then I'll be very disappointed, but I'll be in a minority, I suspect.
Or, go and look at the plethora of rumours about a Wonder Woman movie. Front runner though is Sandra Bullock, another lips-on-stilts slipping clsoer to anorexia every birthday.
As an aside, how many superheroines aren't based to some degree on titilation?

Re:Sum of All Fears...
Umm... I'm not sure if your being sarcastic or not, but I'll assume your not.
:) Read more about the film at UpcomingMovies.com, the trailer is also over at Quicktime.com Shockingly enough, it doesn't look like it will be horrible, though I could think of other Clancy books I'd rather see made into movies (Cardinal of the Kremlin for instance, and the new Hunt for Red October thats supposed to be in the works). -

Tron 2.0 (Sequel information and possible spoiler)Anytime someone mentions Tron, everyone is quick to mention the upcoming sequel. Coming Attractions has some spoilers on Tron 2.0 that I will ruthlessly blockquote below:
---BEGIN SPOILER---
For those wondering, Kurtz is from Apocalypse Now (1979) where:
Jeff Bridges character does play a Colonel Kurtz-like character now permanently in cyberspace. The script also features a cyberspace ghetto where all of the obsolete software and videogame characters go when no one uses them anymore. This project had been cold for quite some time until recently, when Disney execs were surprised to learn of the strength of advanced sales for the 20th anniversary DVD going on sale next month (and which may be the best DVD ever produced by Disney). As a result, the sequel has apparently gained momentum as of late. Glimpses of pre-production material for Tron 2.0 will appear on the DVD."
---END SPOILER---"Burnt out Captain Willard is sent into the jungle with orders to find and kill Colonel Kurtz who has set up his own army within the jungle. As he descends into the jungle he is slowly over taken by the jungles mesmerizing powers and the battles and insanity which surround him. His crew begins to succumbs to drugs and are slowly killed off one by one. As Willard continues his journey he begins to become more and more like the man he was sent to kill."
There is also some good info here as well, but it's mostly a rehash of other sites. Surprisingly UpcomingMovies.com doesn't appear to have any info on this.

Re:Focus on illiteracy, too.
Let's hope that Frank Darabont has a better take on the book in the upcoming Fahrenheit 451 remix... Probably they should remake 1984 also; not because it was a bad movie -- I found it very good actually -- but because nowadays it seems that the only way to get a message across in this publicity saturated world is through massive propaganda. Oh, and a Brave New World film would be nice too.
But I doubt it that the people want to see this type of movies; most already know the problems and know they can do something about it, but are highly unorganized and unable to focus on a common objective (unless that objective affects their physical survival). And with the american patriotic -- I would call it idiotic -- outrage, I question if the government would allow such movies (I wonder at what temperature the movies burn).

The true patriot is the first to question the government. -
I'm supprised...
No one mentioned the game's original slogan...
In space, no one can hear you clean.
Which was a take on the slogan for a certain Ridley Scott film...:)
Which, by coincidence looks that it might be in for the 5th installment of the franchise. -
Mike Myers should have stuck with...... his plans for the sure-to-be-awesome Dieter movie...
And yes, I'm just kidding... it would have been as bad as the other bottom of the barrel SNL movies (anybody ever see that 'Pat' one? Not just a zero-star rating, negative stars were in order for that one.) Too bad that the Bond camp has to insist on bleeding the Bond turnip to the last drop... I loved the Bond films while growing up, but the whole concept is now, sadly, anachronistic. Hang it up, Bondies, and let Mikey have his fun.

up side
Well look at it this way everyone:
We only have wait until next year to start seeing Maxtix 2 ripoffs in every other movie. And then by this time in 2004 they wont be cool anymore either ... -
Re:try watching channels besides SciFi network
It is all over comedy central too. I watch that channel more than any other (by far) and Impostor is being promoed to death on that channel as well.
I would have thought comedy central, sci-fi, and dimension (film distributor) was all owned by the same company, but that is not the case, so actual money did change in promoting this movie.
Sci-Fi is owned by USA Networks (which was just bought by Universal/Vivendi, the same company that owns mp3.com)
Comedy Central is owned by Viacom, says this site.
Dimension is owned by Miramax, which is owned by Disney -- says this site and this site.
I don't watch too much tv, but you would think that Disney would plug the movie on ABC and ESPN, which it also owns, especially since they are hurting for cash right now. Why not promote in house?
How is this related to Impostor? Only tangentially. But be aware of the Big Six media companies. Three are involved in this film. It's more than six, but the other companies are AOL/TimeWarner, Sony, NewsCorp, and Bertelsmann (of Napster fame).
Others would add GE to the list, because they own NBC.
In any case, the entirety of our information and entertainment world comes nearly exclusively through those 8 companies. -
Re:What's up with that?
Helloooooooo brain..... FF the movie was a huge bomb, and lost 115 million dollars. Dropping the whole shebang only makes financial sense.

Oh....dear....god....
From the Upcoming movies website: Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
"Shaquille O'Neal (in talks)"
Ohh....dear....god.....
Not another basketballer trying his hand at acting. And *again* might I add. He had some godawful thing that I dont think anyone ever saw, because they (should have) known how bad it would be. -

Re:Hitchhiker's Guide
You can probably go to the video store and check out the BBC series. As for a new one, Upcomingmovies.com confirms that they're not sure if the movie, due in 2002, has started filming yet, or will even come out.

Re:There will be a good movie this summer...Maybe because that is what it will be called upon its release in the US?
In the U.K., the first book in this series is known as Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and the movie version will have that title as well. How is that possible? Well, they're going to film any scenes that mention the "stone" twice: once with "sorcerer's" for the USA, and once with "philosopher's" for the U.K.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Hi! How are you?
I send you this .sig in order to have your advice -
Re:Dear Katz...So if one assumes that most people who are fans of the game go to see the movie, then yes, they are justified on makeing a big budget movie just for the fans of the game.
Run the numbers.....you're wrong.
Going by the above discussion, let's say Final Fantasy sold 6 million copies. Let's say the movie cost $115 million. Let's assume $10 average ticket price. Every fan would have to see the movie twice. Here's the catch, not all of your $10 goes to the movie, a lot of it goes to the movie theater (salaries, etc), only a portion goes to the production company. Even adding in merchandising (I haven't seen any yet -- McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell), you are still operating at a loss. They had better plan on a TON of people going to the movie that didn't play the game, or that everyone goes at least twice.

We don't know much...UpcomingMovies.com has the full scoop, saying it won't be out until 2003. They make note that there are currenty eleven plot/premise possibilities, so it could be just about anything. And as for a writer:
"(2/6/01) By way of the fan site, HarrisonFordOnline comes the news that the New York Times reports that Steven Gaghan (Traffic, Rules of Engagement) is now in talks to write, which means M. Night is out."
Of course Spielberg will direct. As for Lucas producing, Upcomingmovies says:"Producer Note: George Lucas has been part of the Indy process for all three of the previous films, and would surely need/want to be part of the 4th film as well. This is noteworthy, as he's already quite busy with another project: Star Wars. (6/22/00) If things work out, Lucas would have a gap in 2002 where he could produce this movie in between filming of Episode II and Episode III."
There ya go. Basically we know nothing. -

Re:No, no, no!

There. Apparently they don't like the TARGET="_top" tag here... -
Re:No, no, no!
For info on that, check out upcomingmovies.com. http://upcomingmovies.com/hitchhikersguide.html Usually, when something is taken off IMDB, though, it's because it's either a hoax, or the plans for that aren't really solid at all. In this case, according to upcomingmovies.com, it's just not very solid. No real cast announced yet, 2002 is a *tentative* filming date, and the most solid thing is that "author Douglas Adams expects a 2002 release, which suggests a production start sometime in the next 18 months"

Ad for mission to marsI thought the ad (quicktime video) for the upcoming movie Mission to Mars was pretty good. Special effects looked great, but hopefully the other Mars movie will have a better plot.
