Obvious omission...
The sound effect in a flash animation of a honda civic vs a gti. The animation itself made it around quite a bit, but the sound effect of the honda has been used all over the place. Seriously, I've even heard that sound in a commercial!

What? That doesn't make any sense.
Oh. I get it. See, I thought you were referring to a linear sum of contant-scaled non-negative integer powers of a variable. -
Some additional restrictionsSome additional items were also listed on the locked metal chests:

And then there will be....
....Googlezon! Amazon appears to generally be off in a good direction, considering that it's still fairly young. It also has an interesting selection, including oddities such as a 1,082 volume classics collection that would be practically impossible to read in a lifetime. I just hope that they don't go too patent-crazy...they're supposed to be a book seller, not the monstrosity of a magnate! Maybe they will end up as some sort of mega-corporation in a technnology-dominated future. Frobozz Magic Book Company anyone?
-
Re:BSD is a great example of what doesn't work
A similar comparison with any major commercial UNIX will yield a great many such features (like working SMP support, journalled filesystems, NUMA support, logical volume management, realtime support, etc).
Numa support? Does that mean it plays the Numa Numa Dance every time it starts or something? Sounds like a neat feature :) -

MOD PARENT UP
This is another example of liberal antitrust hawks who hate America going after American businesses that are successful.
I think what is more galling is that "evidence" from a foreign country is being used to attack an American company. Liberals hate America and this is just the latest example of their contempt for everything that the USA stands for. Making up lies and tarnishing the reputation of a great company like Intel is the sort of thing these scum enjoy.
Support Intel and join the AMD boycott here. -

Yatta! The flash madness continues
The only flash movies that... ahem, struck me as much as AYBABTU were these:
Sticky Night of Love
And of course, the Yatta flash.
Original Yatta video for context.
Yatta Flash
Plenty of Engrish and epilepsia-inducing pictures.
Thank you slashdot. Oh, boy do I look forward to having my friends send me a link to this funny AYBABTU thing that they just discovered. ;-) -

I've already got my browser based OS of choice.
That's not a very Windows-like OS. It boots too quickly to be believable. And btw. Clippy is immortal. -

Amazon
Amazon, and they will become Googlezon.

Certain things caught my eye
Dodgeball - Google acquired this two-person cell phone social networking company in May 2005. The company was looking for investors, and Google apparently fit the bill. So far, nothing has happened with this company, but it will probably have something to do with Google Mobile.
Google Mobile? So are they making cell phones or something? I'm confused.
Buzznet - Yahoo! beat Google to the punch by acquiring Flickr, one of my candidates in the first draft of this article. Like Flickr, Buzznet is a photo hosting and sharing service that features unique tagging features. It is possible to browse by tag and see all sorts of interesting stuff. Buzznet would probably jibe with Picasa's Hello photo posting service, perhaps include some sort of photo-Blogger, and integrate well with Orkut.
I think this would do very well and could be a competitor to Imageshack.us. I also think they would integrate it w/ Picasa probably and Blogger.
Monster - Monster is the most popular job search site. Some bloggers have tossed this idea around, touting various forms of integration with other Google services. They also mention that Yahoo! owns HotJobs. However, one wonders whether Google is interested in this market at all.
Hmm...that'd be interesting to see
Anyone seen Epic? Epic is a mock 'history' presentation on Google from the POV of 2015. It's quite interesting and while the idea of this is creepy it'd be cool at the same time. -

Re:all i want to know
If it easy to develop, publishers won't invest $10 million to develop something any home programmer could write on their own PC
There is at least one Flash game:
Curiously Strong All Night Long
And there is Hapland, but that is probably more of a puzzle game.

sample video
Here's some video of Nintendogs in action. Umm, for some reason I don't think this is going to go over well in the US market.
-
One Word... KAWAIIIIII!!
I love games. I'm a typical guy (prefer dogs over cats). And Nintendogs (to say this in the most non-girly way) is uber-cute. What else do I need to buy the DS + ND?
;P But actually I think it's pretty cool from the AI/realism standpoint. Check out the flash movie of it. Even if you hate dogs or tamagotchi or pocket monsters, you have to admit they simulated the dogs darn well. They jump, run, twitch, wag, and bark very convincingly. I'll most likely get it, even though I might not buy many other DS games.
-
Unbelievably cute game
Check out this little flash presentation...

We are here to protect you.
From TFA:
Toyota Motor Corp. (7203.T: Quote, Profile, Research) aims to start selling robots that can help look after elderly people or serve tea to guests by 2010, the Asahi daily reported on Tuesday.
Reading this, I can't help but think of this excerpt from The Terribe Secret of Space:
Grandma is protected
Grandma has gone down the stairs
We are here to protect you
From the terrible secret of space
We are the space robots
Grandma is protected
Grandma is protected
At the bottom of the stairs
I am the pusher robot
Shoving is the answer
I will shove grandma
Outside into the snow
I am the shover robot
Pushing is the answer
I will push snow
On top of grandma

Re:There is a problem
Starting with Basic, Fortran or C is just going to turn off most kids.
Using Basic (with Atari, BBC, Commodore 64's, Vic-20's) was how most game programmers first started.
Setting up a graphics screen only required a single graphics 7 call. Playing a sound of particlar type only required a single sound command. Getting user input from the joystick, button or paddle controller only required a single call to the relevant command.
Then, for the more advanced programmers, there was custom character sets, assembly language, display list interrupts, vertical blank interrupts and player missile graphics or sprites.
Have you seen the website albinoblacksheep.com". They have dozens of simple but fun games written in Flash. -

Just in case no one recognizes this, it's the lyrics to System of a Down's cover of the Legend of Zelda theme song. You can hear it in an amusingish flash video here.

You're absolutly right that requiring effort will scare off 90% of the trolls. When http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/ started requiring logins for the forum, trolling almost ceased completly. The only reason we don't see more troll posts on

Nice limitations...
Starter Edition also prevents users from launching more than three applications simultaneously.
So, after surfing the net for 5 minutes with Internet Explorer, the poor user can't start any application anymore since all available process slots are occupied by worms and spyware...
Even Windows RG (Really Good Edition) works better. -

Try this, then.

Re:Silicosis? Pfft...
Can't be entirely sure (as CNB changes with every playing), but that sounds suspiciously like one of the intro words flashed by Chocolate Niblet Beans. You may have to play it 20 or 30 times to get the really long word to come up...

tally hall
I'm director of e-commerce for a band in out of Ann Arbor, MI called Tally Hall.
We use a five-pronged attack to establishing an online presence and it's raised our site's traffic from an avg 200/day two months ago to over 25,000/day now.
Don't want to give away all our secrets but here are a few crucial points of advice:
1) Give away mp3s free. As Microsoft gave MS-DOS away free when it initially emerged, it helps the product spread across the globe much faster than being a stickler for CD sales. A lot of bands are concerned giving free mp3s will reduce CD sales, in fact it's just the opposite. Yes, there are a minority that might not buy a CD once their mp3 is free, but it's been our experience that CD sales went through the roof as we released mp3s free and exposed the music to a wider audience.
2) If you've got a music video, see if you can get it featured on a huge site like http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/video/bananaman
3) Sign up at sites like myspace.com and acquire fans/listeners/feedback on your music free. We've earned nearly 25k fans through myspace.com alone
4) Penetrate the blogosphere. One person writes about your music and likes it, next thing you know you've got referral traffic coming from over 1,600 different blogs (or at least that's been our experience).
5) Just keep pushing. Three months ago almost no one heard of Tally Hall. Now they're scouted by some of the largest labels around. Starting as just a college band with a small fan base in Ann Arbor, our internet strategy's led us to acquire over 100k new fans in just a few months. When you first start it'll be very slow, but like a snowball pushed down a hill it will eventually grow enough momentum to soar on its own.
This is all assuming there is an audience for your music.
Best of luck.

Re:What the left hand takes away...
Here's a counter-argument: There are no major software companies in Europe because you dumbasses* think that "Windows XP Home Edition N" is a good marketing decision.
* - No offense to present company if unrelated to the decision-making process, but you always come and blast Americans for every decision of Congress that you don't understand, so it's fair game.
P.S.: You should have called it Windows RG. -
Re:France surrendering?Need I point out the most famous googlebomb ever?
http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/text/victories.htm l
FRENCH MILITARY HISTORY
- Gallic Wars
- Lost. In a war whose ending foreshadows the next 2000 years of French history, France is conquered by of all things, an Italian.
- Hundred Years War
- Mostly lost, saved at last by female schizophrenic who inadvertently creates The First Rule of French Warfare; "France's armies are victorious only when not led by a Frenchman." Sainted.
- Italian Wars
- Lost. France becomes the first and only country to ever lose two wars when fighting Italians.
- Wars of Religion
- France goes 0-5-4 against the Huguenots
- Thirty Years War
- France is technically not a participant, but manages to get invaded anyway. Claims a tie on the basis that eventually the other participants started ignoring her.
- War of Revolution
- Tied. Frenchmen take to wearing red flowerpots as chapeaux.
- The Dutch War
- Tied
- War of the Augsburg League/King William's War/French and Indian War
- Lost, but claimed as a tie. Three ties in a row induces deluded Frogophiles the world over to label the period as the height of French military power.
- War of the Spanish Succession
- Lost. The War also gave the French their first taste of a Marlborough, which they have loved every since.
- American Revolution
- In a move that will become quite familiar to future Americans, France claims a win even though the English colonists saw far more action. This is later known as "de Gaulle Syndrome", and leads to the Second Rule of French Warfare; "France only wins when America does most of the fighting."
- French Revolution
- Won, primarily due the fact that the opponent was also French.
- The Napoleonic Wars
- Lost. Temporary victories (remember the First Rule!) due to leadership of a Corsican, who ended up being no match for a British footwear designer.
- The Franco-Prussian War
- Lost. Germany first plays the role of drunk Frat boy to France's ugly girl home alone on a Saturday night.
- World War I
- Tied and on the way to losing, France is saved by the United States. Thousands of French women find out what it's like to not only sleep with a winner, but one who doesn't call her "Fraulein." Sadly, widespread use of condoms by American forces forestalls any improvement in the French bloodline.
- World War II
- Lost. Conquered French liberated by the United States and Britain just as they finish learning the Horst Wessel Song.
- War in Indochina
- Lost. French forces plead sickness; take to bed with the Dien Bien Flu
- Algerian Rebellion
- Lost. Loss marks the first defeat of a western army by a Non-Turkic Muslim force since the Crusades, and produces the First Rule of Muslim Warfare; "We can always beat the French." This rule is identical to the First Rules of the Italians, Russians, Germans, English, Dutch, Spanish, Vietnamese and Esquimaux.
- War on Terrorism
- France, keeping in mind its recent history, surrenders to Germans and Muslims just to be safe. Attempts to surrender to Vietnamese ambassador fail after he takes refuge in a McDonald's. -
