Pocari Sweat - Picture
Well, the Pocari Sweat drink appears to be real. Ugh, and it's not even the worst one you can find over on engrish.com

Re:market-speak
Sorry...I just had to get an engrish example...
-
Re:market-speak
It reminds me of some of the engrish phrases. A sentence that says nothing surrounded by randomly selecting jargon.

Re:GMail will fail.
Dude, WTF is up with your sig? timecube.com has got to be the most incoherent, poorly written, worst layed-out website I've seen in years. I hope it isn't your webpage. Maybe you speak engrish... I dunno. That sig seriously sucks though.

Re:Cute, but M_e_bius?could you elaborate?
'Sony' was meant to be Sonny, as in Sonny Boy, a homey sort of name. The founder got the spelling wrong, though the name stuck. A fun site to check for stuff like this.

Check this out.

Re:The Link to the robot suit
Not only that, but they invented HAL!! Too bad it was at a university in Japan rather than at UIUC.
Though, It does appear that they're confusing evil robots with evil computers, at least as far as naming goes. But wait... This is Japan we're talking about? This might make some sense. -

the author obviously learned his grammar from engrish.com

Re:[OT] What the FUCK is up with these apostrophesthe WORST and MOST BIZARRE manglings of English seem to originate from America
I think that honor goes to the Engrish Speakers in Japan!

Here we go againHere's another reason for skinny white kids with pimples to think they are cool. Maybe someday they will realize that life isn't little Japanese chicks with big tits speaking Engrish, but rather somebody real.
Go away nerds.. Shooo... Shooo...

Who and how?
Who comes up with these names, and how does Japan manage to stay lightyears ahead of everyone else in wireless?
I came up with the name!! Why? What's wrong with it? You should have seen the Engrish they came up with the first time around!
And to answer the "How" question, the answer is simple! Smaller cost of roll-out, fewer zoning regulations (do they even KNOW what zoning is in Japan?) and a high-rate of initial adopters all spells a quick update of technology on their island nation.

Re:Racist
I suggest you check what engrish is, especially the paragraph where it says it has nothing to do with anti-asian racism in the faq, before posting your misinformed politically-correct, knee-jerk reactions.
Don't you know how to laugh a bit?
By the way, I'm surprised a man with such anti-racist convictions like you posts as AC... -

Re:Come again?
Can you not see I am respectful of the environment?! Do not disrepect the spirits of your elders, buy Mr. Power Extra Subueteo Batteries now!
This reminds me of stuff I've seen on the Engrish.com website. Full with very bizarre mangled English sayings. Fun for the whole family!

a bit mean...
I find it a little nasty that one of the humor finalists is a site which makes fun of people who can't speak english.
-
Re:I think you mean...
A good Japanese friend of mine says his favorite web site is Engrish.com and that many Japanese share his opinion.

Great Slogan!
"Drives Like Fun! Saves Like Crazy!"
Maybe Panther can adopt this as theirs - although maybe just overseas... -
Re:Plastic bags...
Many classic examples at Engrish.com
One of my favorites being this one which reads
"!DANGER! A dangerous toy. This toy is being made for the extreme priority the good looks. The little part which suffocates when the sharp part which gets hurt is swallowed is contained generously. Only the person who can take responsibility by itself is to play."
I'm not sure what toy that is, but I want one! -

Re:Hitachi electric drill...That's the funniest thing I've read in a while.
I had a mini Char-G car, but a pirate version from China. It had some fantastic comedy instructions, but sadly it's at work.
Some from engrish.com...
On a Yo-Yo...
- Don't put into mouth to prevent from choking
- Don't tie string around neck to play in a rough way
- Don't leave the string alone with children under 3
- Don't throw the yo yo at people
- Be aware of people coming close when you play yo yo
- Be careful of the mental parts when dissemble the yo yo
And from a Doorbell...
Cordless Designs. No neccesitities to dig holes and arrange the wires, avoiding the eletrical cirucit bothersome of Laying out as well as paying-out, not affecting the decotating beauties.
Remotely controlling from ultra-distances. The length reaches sixty metres, satisfying the requirements of high-stoueyed buildings.
The sound is quite Loud, charming and ear-catching Presetting many sorts of sound for selections.
The doorbell and the buttons code must be matched.
After the button is installed the nine-volt battery, using screws, glass glue or double-sided sponge paper stitcher to fix at the gate, pull the antenna straightly (make sure not to be too close to the metal things. if the door is hardware one, the arial cannot approach the metal), Preventing the rain from showening diretly. When not pressing, don't ecaicsg the power. The battery can be used for one yaer (counting by twenty times daily)
Opening the battery lid of the doorbell, the batteries. The batteries which you are invited would better akalined ones (Three No. 5 batteries, "AA" size. Ift is shorter in lives and easier to seep the electrolyts for using the oudinary batteries. There fore, they are not suitable to be used) Exausing the power is extremely Low. the doorbell can be places with your desires, or installed at any positions in the interior.
After using for a long period of time, pleace change the batteries which are out of normal uses.

Re:I Am A Pen
Always find it fascinating to see one culture's interpretation of another.
This site is a celebration of the misunderstandings that always take place: http://www.engrish.com -
Re:What the hell is wrong with those people?
Because in Japan, throwing random English words into product names / posters / conversations is the cool thing to do.
See also Engrish.com. -
Re:wow
Yeah, I agree. For more fun and senseless translations, try this.

Engrish
... many Japanese speakers reverse their R's and L's
Here are some nice examples of this and more. It also goes the other way. -
Re:English = exoic

Dinosaur?
Is this a case of engrish? Looking at some of the pictures in the flash animation, the text on the machine seems to be Banryu Neo Dinosaur. Or something very close to it.

Re:Manga
As a fan of the manga I really wish to see this new Appleseed - the old movie was quite awful.
Half the fun in the old one was all the Engrish. I think they spelled "Olympus" about 8 different ways in various scenes. Olumpis, Olumpas, Olimpus, etc. I think they finally got it spelled right towards the end of the movie ;-) -
Re:OK... a lot of us like anime...
I will keep wearing t-shirts that are complete nonsense in Japanese until they stop first!
But to keep this somewhat on topic, Appleseed needed a high-budget remake as the first one was so cheezy! The political machinations and the obsessive detailing of technology that Shirow is best at was totally lost on the first Appleseed anime. -
Wait.
Will they be speaking ENGLISH or ENGRISH?
-
Re:Translation"Used Babelfish and then paraphrased it so it wasn't as engrish: "
When mentioning engrish too bad you didn't link to the awesome site of the same name.

Not Engrish
That wasn't Engrish. Rather, it was automated translation, mapping words to words instead of re-framing the concepts being communicated natively in the destination language.

Am I the only one who had a double take when reading the title of this article?
I guess not being a fan of Doctor Who made the title not click immediately. The way I mis-read it the first time (almost in engrish) was "Lost Doctor, Who Episode Found"... -
Good Grief...I could see this as a boon to the tourist who travels to places where English speakers are uncommon."
Spoken like someone who has never taken a foreign language class. Suppose that thing is going to get the accent right? Emphasis on the right syllable? Not likely, mostly good for translating some text message into the PDA holder's tongue (and doing an Engrish job of it anyway.)

And they influencing ...
english too!!!

Re:The Papercraft Elephant's..."assembly instructions are in a PDF called "elephant-asse.pdf".
Now I know it is Japanese. Still I prefer the Angel Sweet Asse
Origami is one good thing from Japan...but Engrish is better!

Re:Coming back? No.
Does the primary language of the person who programs your dialog boxes really matter?
Not at all, unless THIS starts to happen frequently, that is. -
Re:Coming back? No.
Does the primary language of the person who programs your dialog boxes really matter?
Yes, imagine buying a new scanner, having something happen, and getting an error dialog like this.
How would you feel about having to suppport 50+ users using this software?
