E-Z Bake
If it can't be empty, you should definatly go with the "oven drive".

Re:Oh FFS!
True, it doesn't... but it does appear to have a handy solution if you do get sucked into buying one of these keyboards: just paint the letters back on with this stuff and type with your UV cathode lamp on. Turn it off in the presence of people to maintain your over-inflated uber-nerd reputation!

Um... thinkgeek?
ThinkGeek has been selling those for quite a while. I'm sure I saw them advertise it more than once here.
-
Yeah, it's been on ThinkGeek for a while..I was just as surprised. This keyboard has been on ThinkGeek for at least a year now. Is OSDN having a fire sale or something? Too many in the warehouse?
How is this news?
While we're on the subject, I've been looking for one of the old black, metal keyboards from the 80's. But to no avail. Does anyone have any tips? PS/2, AT, whatever doesn't matter. Thanks.

Re:I though these things went after market share
(I know, there is no real way for one iPod to infect the next, I'm doing a funny rant on market share is why windows is attacted)

Re:Human error
There is such a device already and you can pick it up at Thinkgeek for USD 269...

Re:NetBSD Toaster
A kilowatt is a bit light-weight for a toaster
Maybe for a four slice toaster. But for a two-slice model a kilowatt would probably be just right or even a little bit of overkill.
My two slice toaster uses 800 watts according to my kill-a-watt. If I put it on "bagel" mode (turns off one side of the heating elements in each slot) it only uses 600 watts.
In any case you wouldn't use a PSU for a toaster anyway. The highest voltage you can usually get out of them is 12VDC. At that voltage you'd need 66 amps to deliver the 800 watts my toaster uses. 66 amps would require a pretty thick piece of cabling. Of course since it takes in 1.4KW to provide 1KW of actual power you could probably slowly toast your bread off the waste heat that this thing will generate...

Re:Purpose
No, don't use a microwave - just slap them in the Foreman USB grill

Re:Regarding Portable HDs
Or maybe something like this:
Cipher Shield Secured External HDD

Not sure how well it works or how secure it is, but been thinking of checking one out myself. -
ThinkGeek better watch out...
A 25% tax on what the government calls pornography might impact sales. Be afraid, thinkgeek - you and your action shots.

Re:Different technologies, different purpose
And you can have the best of both!

Perfect /. Project
-
Exactly.
This is all fucking stupid. If I wanted to see naked people, I'd download some porn. I don't have the desire to watch pixels porking each other. It takes a lot more know-how to mod a game or install a patch than it does to get on Kazaa and download some hardcore stuff.
If this kid would mod his PS2 to watch the Hot Coffee game, I'd say he already has a couple gigs of porn on his computer. Who's gonna get sued for that?
I can't wait to get my Hot Coffee shirt tomorrow. -
Re:How about parts?
Even better, what happens to ThinkGeek since they are selling a Super Cantenna? From the description:
A Cantenna is simply an inexpensive version of the long-range antennas used by wireless internet providers and mobile phone companies. It is ideally suited for sending or receiving wireless signals in the 2.4 GHz ISM band (802.11b + g). Now, with your own Cantenna you can extend the range of your wireless network or connect to other wireless networks in your neighborhood.
Emphasis mine

Tshirt Already?
And as a keepsake for all of the madness... be sure to pick up your very own Hot Coffee t-shirt from ThinkGeek!
As soon as they're actually in stock, that is. -
Re:Do the Slashdot editors read?
All it requires is for the dupe editor to do a search on Slashdot to see if a story has already been posted...
All you should need for that is a small shell script -
Antioptimus keyboard
While the idea and look of the Optimus keyboard seems pretty geek-o-riffic (and I'm guessing it looks pretty attractive while humming along), how often do people look at the keyboard while typing anyway? Do you seriously need to be reminded that the shift key makes the letters CAPS? Also, at least for me, frequently used application-dependent function keys and other special character keys etc. are usually looked up and memorized early on in the learning curve of an application anyway. Perhaps I'm alone here, but I might prefer the rather elegant "anti-Optimus" Das Keyboard instead.
-
Great, if you actually LOOK at your keyboard
As cool as this is, I'd rather shell out the extra money for one of these. I rarely look at my keyboard.
-
Re:What would be really badass...
It's annoying to have to move both hands to the keys just to fill in a form or something.
Then just type with one hand.
I haven't tried that out, but it looks awesome. Expensive though.

Licensing/Implications?If anyone reading works for Logitech or some other big peripheral manufacturer please let your R&D department know about this and maybe they can license the design and technology from the good people at art.lebedev.
But seriously this technology could have huge implications for the future of peripheral manufacturing (on the high-end at least) purely because you can have it as QWERTY, AZERTY, DVORAK or any other english, arabic, cyrillic, sanscrit, klingon or other layout!
For the cheapskates there's always Das Keyboard!

Sensationalists rant on!
People are willing to pay good money for a retro cassette drive for their computers right now to gain points with the geek crowd.
Wait a minute; I'm going to sell my "crap box" full of floppy drives on eBay for the retro crowd. I'll soon be a thousandaire. Or at least a hundredaire. -
Mini R/C Desktop Rovers
Sorry, but this is old news. If you guys have ever explored the mini r/c desktop rover's site (product description/photo at: http://www.thinkgeek.com/cubegoodies/toys/5776/ ) they had an online tech demo (through java of course) where you stood in line and got to control the rc car. It was stuck in a box with a bunch of ramps and obstacles that you could see with the camera attached to it. You were able to steer and push objects within the box. They even took off the top of the box and let you see the crummy living room that it was hosted in! The tech demo isn't working now, but I remember using it over a year ago.

Speaking from experience...
I now do all my typing in Dvorak. I'm a web developer writing mostly PHP, HTML, and CSS. I average about 50wpm. It took me 6 weeks of daily use to be able to switch solely to Dvorak. While I was learning, I tried to do everything in Dvorak unless it was time critical.
Before learning Dvorak, I was a 40wpm QWERTY typist, but trapped in limbo somewhere between hunt-and-peck and touch typing; I would use all my fingers, but I had to look at the keyboard every-so-often. Because I couldn't touch-type in QWERTY when I begun, I can't say whether I could touch-type in QWERTY. But I can still manage a swift rate. I do however, find myself reverting to Dvorak if I have been sitting at a QWERTY computer for a while without typing.
My biggest gripe is gaming -- Using Windows and using the keyboard layout switching capability I have to switch the input mode every time I start a game -- most games look at the letters.
Funnily enough, Quake III Arena is the only game I've seen that would ignore the input mode while you were playing, seeing WASD as WASD, but if you were chatting it would go Dvorak (,AOE) -- Why don't more games do this? Once again, id was ahead of its time...
A tip for those keen to learn: don't bother with re-labelling your keys! Just print out the layout and attach it to the bottom of your monitor and use that when you're unsure which key is F or G. Maybe think about getting a label-less Das Keyboard ;) -
Wanna do it with hardware?

Re:not a big surprise, but it's ominous for future
On the other hand, my Dad, whom I've spent countless hours coaxing and helping learn Windows and how to use his computer called the other day and said he had disconnected it, and didn't care to ever use it again.
All my relatives have Macs. Problem solved, and I usually don't even need to wear The Shirt

Code as art.

Now that code, is art. Most code is just craft, but to make a working perl program, that is an ascii-art of a camel, that is True Art.. -
Re:The Russian court has got see reason, here.
You're either a really bad shot, or a really good one. Or you can just buy one.
-
Re:The Russian court has got see reason, here.I hadn't heard of these things before. I don't agree that it was a disgruntled Christian that ripped it off - it was an envious Linus user (well, likely one of the Christian faith, in that area of the world) - those fishes look kool.
Same for the Darwin "fish"
... when I first saw one, I thought it was unusual as the car sported a most unreligious bumper sticker. When I figured out what it was, I laughed and figured "I gotta get me one." -
If you think that is good, see the duct tape theme
Stuff made of wood is not somthing I would want to wear. Duct-tape products are the new...hotness.
I don't see anything more (cough) inventive (cough) than speculating on the market demand for duct-tape products as...
You guessed it,
0) duct-tape iPods
1) duct-tape wallets
2) duct-tape jackets
3) duct-tape pants
4) duct-tape shoes
5) duct-tape condoms (just joking there, ladies (-:)
6) duct-tape hats
7) duct-tape gloves
8) ????
9) pro-fit! -
Re:Evolved preferences
First off I think the person asking the question has not read
/. Second I know there are women who read /. Third I don't think you can define what games women or men for that matter will and will not play and enjoy based on biology. Just because women traditionaly took certain roles in society does not mean that they are going to continue in those roles. So I think trying to determine the games women are going to play based on their traditional roles in society is BS. Does anyone else think that video games are assocaited or have been associated with the stereotypical geek. While we are all geeks here, or atleast trying to be. We must reember that /. is "News w/ a Nerd /. Fourth I want to say to the women of /. I'm sorry you have to put up with this BS. -
Still a t-shirt
For the beginning reciters among us, we at least still have a nice t-shirt with the first 4493 digits of Pi in the shape of the Pi symbol.
