Snake Eater
In all seriousness, I have quite a few game soundtracks. Both Jet Set Radios, FF VII, MGS: 3 (which works very well away from the game), Katamari (and the sequel), a Zelda or two... there is quite a bit of very good music in games if you are listening. My favorite is probably my Super Smash Brothers: Melee CD. I got it as a pack in with an issue of Nintendo Power a couple of years ago. It has a bunch of fully orchestrated tracks from the game and sounds fantastic. It has a Metroid track, Yoshi's Story track, Kirby track, Pokemon track, and many more. I'd have gladly paid $20-$25 for it.
Too bad it's not all like that. It's hard to get many soundtrack CDs in the US (have to order them from Japan). Worse is that some games that have soundtracks I want have terrible soundtrack CDs. I thought the music in SSX 3 was fantastic, so I bought the soundtrack to it. It has like 10 tracks, only one of which I like. The game it's self had a ton more. The GTA soundtracks had everything, there was no excuse. Then again, there were missing tracks on the JSRF disc too (where was Aisle 10 by Scapegoat Wax?)
Oh well. Great music.

Re:oblig
Just encase it appears to be offtopic to some, I believe it is referencing this strip, erm, no pun intended.

Re:Inherent problem with RPGs
VGCats once had a comic about that.

The very first scene
For me, it was that first piece of dialogue with Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. I listened to the clunky phrasing and complete absence of chemistry with this horrible sinking feeling. The original movies had scripts that made you feel like the characters were talking to each other. _tPM_ had scripts that made you feel like the actors were talking at each other. I mean:
OBI-WAN : I have a bad feeling about this.
QUI-GON : I don't sense anything.
OBI-WAN : It's not about the mission, Master, it's something... elsewhere... elusive.
QUI-GON : Don't center on your anxiety, Obi-Wan. Keep your concentration here and now where it belongs.
OBI-WAN : Master Yoda says I should be mindful of the future...
QUI-GON : ...but not at the expense of the moment. Be mindful of the living Force, my young Padawan.Ugh. This is a master Jedi talking to his apprentice. They have a close personal relationship. They're going to talk like they know each other, not in formal platitudes and lectures. Compare with Yoda and Luke on Dagobah --- or even the wonderful endless bickering between Luke, Han and Leia... now, that was good dialogue. This stuff? Blah. It's all too obviously glue to stick the actions scenes together.
Basically, the tPM script was just bad.

Re:Well, think of it this way
Hmm, I can't seem to find it on VG Cats. I think it was one of the "old" comics, before the author changed styles, and thus no longer on the site. A couple have been redone in the new style, and include a link to the old one, but I think not all.
Or, of course, it's also entirely possible that my mind is playing tricks on me, and I saw it on a whole other comic. It's been a couple of years, so... -

Re:Urination (Not OT)
Hmm, while water sports with Will Wright have a certain allure, I always think of this gem. And the Maxis guys liked is enough to do their own version of it with the Spore graphics.

Re:strange premise...
Given the Wii's proclivity for innovative controllers, one that sucks balls could be a huge hit.
I'm in!
I have no idea what kind of game I'd play with it, but ... I for one welcome our new ball-sucking overlords. :-P How about Wario Ware? -

MMO Design is easy
Just copy the exact same collisionless, boring click and sit back melee combat, click to cast spells, etc. gameplay engine that's been around since UO and EQ, give it pretty graphics or base it off some nerdy IP, and MAKE SURE IT'S A GRINDFEST. An MMO is built upon the principle that "Time spent in game is proportional to your character's abilities. Actual skill is a minimal aspect."
That's the easiest part. Make the game so long and drawn out due to grinding like putting all the cool content at the end of the level ladder so people stay on and continue to pump money at you.
The MMO market is generally populated by and catered to this style of repetitive, "addictive" gameplay, which is why there's not a whole lot of innovation in the past ten years. People just continue to throw money at people to do "work" and mine for fish. (as in http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=155)

Re:Good old HolywoodOn the current topic, I always thought it would be very hard to make a good live action Transformers movie. They pulled it off very well. Some would disagree.

Who cares?!?
I just wanna play God!
Why do you abuse my games so? - Will Wright -
Sure there is
You just can't quote him or play a soundclip without bleeping it. There's all sorts of amusing ways to describe with euphemisms what someone else said.
My favorite is to tell some one "to perform an anatomical impossibility," and there's always "dropped the F-bomb." -

Re:Wiis Still Selling As Fast As They Make 'Em
All that really shows is that Nintendo doesn't have good enough hardware-production facilities.
I like this to jab an irony stick into the eyes of fanboys. -
Re:Personally
I owned Blue, but never managed to find Sabrina. I bought Diamond a couple of weeks ago, and so far I am really enjoying it. Since I live in Argentina, local trading is out of question (it is pretty hard to find anyone with a handheld), however wifi trading is very, very nice, allowing me to, at least, hope to catch 'em all for once.
Besides the known clichés, it is quite good (even though my friend list is empty *sniff*). By the way, the Japanese love female combees. True, they are hard to catch, but I get around 3 per day, and every time I deposit them, they accept the trade (even though I request even rarer items). -

Harder to screw up
Twilight Princess was great, but isn't it past time to deprecate text-only dialog.
It's harder to screw up a game with text-only dialog than it is to screw up one with voice acting because of the choice of a flat and talentless voice actor or two (or ten). I can think of a few games that I've found seriously hurt by voice acting -- the first Grandia game and Shenmue immediately come to mind.
(Good lord was Shenmue's voice acting terrible. It was like a dry read by tone-deaf people.)
On a related note: Hey, listen! -
Re:"Rather touchy aren't they"
Wow, he really comes off as downright peevish, no? I mean, even if Miyamoto's comment wasn't out of context, and he meant exactly what he said, the response turns out feeling really childish.
Holy crap! It was a joke, people. A joke! He was essentially saying that they don't care, and was having a little bit of fun with it, having a little bit of fun with people like you who take this crap so seriously.
Frankie is the guy who draws Mister Chief as a parody of Master Chief. He's the guy who usually does the weekly updates at Bungie.net, in which he takes sarcastic potshots at Bungie, community members, etc. along with providing serious news about what's going on at Bungie.
In short, if you're complaining that Frankie came off as "childish" in this interview, you totally missed the point. Moreover, you probably ought to take a close look at yourself, if your reaction to a little fun poke at Potatamoto is to think the guy making the joke is childish and peevish.

Re:Yep.See, no problem. They don't even need to change the script.
brilliant! not providing effective support for linux costs the same as not providing support for windows. when you look at it that way, then inadequate training for corporate employees costs the same as well. i guess it should be noted that an unplugged computer won't boot regardless of the installed operting system.
i like the fact that ubuntu is brown... i think that is just in keeping with the latest advances in game design.

Re:Rule him vexatious already!Well, I actually don't think he does this to "harass or subdue an adversary"... The pettifogger follows that pattern:
http://www.vgcats.com/jack.php - Jack Thompson makes threats to press criminal charges for harassment - even though he initiated the conversation
http://kotaku.com/gaming/jack-thompson/penny-arcad e-vs-jack-thompson-131534.php - Jack Thompson requests a police investigation when Penny Arcade donates to a charity.
http://kotaku.com/gaming/legal/another-jackass-tho mpson-lawsuit-coming-202894.php - Jack Thompson in an infamous anti-T2 GTA case.
http://kotaku.com/gaming/jack-thompson/jack-bitche s-about-bullys-gay-sex-210938.php - Not satisfied with previous results, he repeats the same tactic hoping to get a victory.
The only way you can get away with pettifogging is if you have moles within the USA judicial system, as it is with one religiously fanatical organization. Since Jack Thompson does not have contacts on this level, he probably should cut losses by flipping burgers. That, and I think he's gone insane actually... Even if it shares the same characteristics, Arsehole isn't a form of insanity. Likewise, it isn't an excuse for being a massacre chaser. -
Re:the ancient cult of goatse.cxLast time I looked at the goatse.cx image was about 5 years ago, and it is still burned in my head. I know you said you wouldn't follow any links, but I think this comic depicts your pain amusingly: http://www.vgcats.com/othercomics/?strip_id=10
I got it from Wikipedia. It's safe. Trust me! No really, I'm not kidding, it's funny. Seriously, I'm not trying to fool you. Ah well, you'll never believe me :) -

Re:Does it matter?
For at the moment Easter Bunnies do not in fact have any legal rights in the USA or any other country. Many laws would need to be changed and the source of his/her easter eggs found and appropriately taxed!
Any other country? Check Esternia before you make such claims.
