Actually, Nolan+HBO might make a decent Foundation
Good for Heinlein and Pohl (Gateway-wasnt that going to be on TV?) and Andy Weir (The Martian). Too bad there is nothing on the radar for the more lengthy series like Ringworld or Asimov's Foundation.
Honestly, though, if anything Nolan's general failing has been in the emotional department, he's actually pretty good with grand, sweeping ideas. And anything to do with the Foundation series is going to work best as something along the lines of an HBO series, certainly at least in terms of budget and length (and we-don't-need-no-stinking-ratings). So although it certainly could go really badly, I think there's a chance that a Foundation series could work out.

TV Guide's list of TV shows status...
"Dark Horizons shares a TV Guide blog that shows a chart/schedule since the end to the three-month-old Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike is imminent. The networks have quietly begun outlining plans to salvage what's left of the current television (TV) season. Keep in mind that the following information remains extremely tentative and is subject to change (and probably will). Check the Web page often to see the up-to-date information." From my site.

Re:Now"currently, though bringing Dr. Who to the US is a smart move"
I know this thread is dead but, for the record, it irks me that Doctor Who is coming to SciFi. It forced their hand to delay a US DVD release that I was looking forward to and capping or VCRing anything on SciFi is worthless with all their flying ads during shows. Entertainment News

Re:This is insulting.
Yeah, sure.
Yeah. Sure.
It's just stupid, and people shouldn't put up with it.
Then don't buy into it. That's your call. But if this is to be a family oriented film I can understand why a studio would be concerned. Why is it that every slashdotter thinks that this kinda stuff should go unchecked and simply because they don't have an issue with it that everyone should simply accept their viewpoint? Get a grip. The vast majority of parents WANT to have a comfortable amount of control over what their children are exposed to and thus sexuality in films meant to appeal to minors is often slashed. That's the way it works. You want to hold your kids to different standards? You don't care about sex and violence in films? There's nothing saying you can't take them to any film you choose upto NC-17. -

The joys of fast internet connections ...
Can't remember the last time I actually watched anything on a TV (directly anyway). Pretty much every show I watch now is downloaded off the internet. I just use Dark Horizons and TV.com to keep track of what shows are currently airing that I want to watch.
Just my two pence worth :) -

Return of classic scifi: Land of the Lost
With a Land of the Lost movie in the works, this new Dr Who, and the success of "Battlestar Galactica", it seems that these are good times for the return of classic scifi. Except for "Star Trek", which hardly went away, and managed to wear itself out.

Trailer...
According to my old AQFL story and Dark Horizons, there was a WMV trailer on Screen Rant but the Web site seems to be down. You can look at Google's cached Web page. And here is the original Web site that hosted it (still works for now).

Indeed
If you don't frequent Fark.com you might have missed this, but here is some proof for your theory as to Vin's gamer background.
And here seems as good a place as any for my 3.14 cents: COR is a really good FPS. The first person fighting is top notch, the shooting scenarios are well done, the stealth is well implemented, and there is even a very nice little surprise if you make it all the way to the end of the game to. (the last stage is simply one of the best endgames I have ever played) -
Star Fleet Command?Dark Horizons recently posted this tidbit in regards to current development at Paramount (emphasis mine):
Seeking Writers: "Pro Nanny, "Au Pair", "Paranoia", "Star Fleet Command", "Stranger in a Strangeland", "Homeland Security", Peter Weir's "War Magician", Tony Scott's "Warriors" and an untitled Johnny Knoxville project

Still just speculation
Earlier this week, Dark Horizons reported that he had learned the production office is open, but that he was unable to learn anything else. SOMETHING is going on but that article simply seems to be plagiarizing the Dark Horizons article.
There was a Henson press conference set for Thursday according to savefarscape.com but it was cancelled which leads me to beleive that perhaps whatever deal they had fell through.
There is a fan convention going on this weekend, so if there is an anouncement look for it soon. -
All hardcore fans will buy the DVD anyway...
I'm not sure what the big deal really is.
Like most long-time LOTR fans, I'd love to see the resolution of Saruman. But the fact is, like most long-time LOTR fans, I'm going to buy the DVD special edition when it comes out. In my eyes, the extended versions of FOTR and TTT are the real cuts of the films, not the theatrical cuts. But for most who haven't read the books, the theatrical cuts will be just great!
So this is only an issue to complain about in principal, not in practice. Those of us who actually CARE about the scene will get to see it as it was intended anyway.
So relax. The movie will be good. What we should really be talking about is what Christopher Lee said on TV about the premier of ROTK, and whether he would attend given that he is cut out of the film: "No. What would be the point?" link. THAT is kind of sad, if you ask me. -
Re:Still no word
Alien Vs. Predator
Paul W.S. Anderson (of Mortal Kombat, Event Horizon, Soldier, and Resident Evil) has signed on to Direct and Write - take that as you will.
The plot is outlined as "Hoping to lure a Predator clan to Antarctica using Alien eggs, a rogue team of scientists are caught in an intergalactic war between the two extremely violent species.".
Lance Henriksen, whom you probably know as Bishop, is signed on. Filming is supposed to begin in "late October" in Prague.
There are rumors that an AvP Teaser/Trailer will be released with the Alien: Direector's Cut theatrical release.
Planet AvP generally has AvP news. Dark Horizons is pretty reliable for any film news, and they state: "Last Thurs (9/11), there was a promo shoot for the teaser trailer or teaser poster(s) for the new Aliens vs. Predator movie. Now, I don't know when it will be released but what I saw was totally cool. Here's what I saw: A caucasian male, 6"2, in complete Predator suit/make-up getting ready for some still shots. When I saw him, he wasn't wearing the helmet but the costume pretty much was reminiscent of the last two Predator films. The only difference was that the mask (or helmet) looked more metallic than I remember it being (sorry to say it, but, it reminded me of the metallic finish on the Jason mask in Jason X, when he is turned into the SUPER JASON! BUT cooler). Anyway, the suit was only air-brushed from the waist down, which leads me to believe that the shoot was for a teaser poster. But otherwise, the tendrils of 'hair' on the predator were AMAZING. I wasn't ballsy enough to see up close but the crew was shooting the Predator first in 'attack' position, perfect for a sneak peak poster. Once all photography/ filming(?) was complete, the crew dumped a bucket full of see-through green slime/goo on him and took more pictures. This was either meant to be predator blood, or alien blood--couldn't tell, too far away.
"Later in the day, it was the aliens turn. What I CAN tell you (about this specific Alien shoot) is that it was NOT the Queen Alien; rather a more human-like alien who walked on two feet. It looked amazing because he was walking like PUMPKINHEAD (remember that one?) and he too--a middle aged geeky caucasian dude)--was not wearing his helmet. (The alien head itself is very faithful to the drone aliens in the 'Alien' videogames and the ones in Alien 3, with the elongated head going back, behind the body, round in shape; NOT the flared out helmet of the Queen. I found it odd though that the alien had NO tail. It made me wonder if they would add it later in post, or if it was part of the story, where it gets cut off. Here too, pictures of it were taken in 'attack' position, kneeling down w/head intact. This was by far the most exciting part of the day, although the Predator was 'gargantuan' in size compared to the Alien."

News at darkhorizonsFrom darkhorizons:
The Matrix: Special Edition (DVD): On April 29th, a few weeks shy of the first sequel's release, Warners will put out a special two-disc set for the original box-office smash with all sorts of stuff. All the extras that appeared on the single-disc release a few years back will be here, as will the entire "The Matrix Revisited" two-hour documentary. Joining it will be several new behind-the-scenes featurettes, three hours worth of audio music track, an 800+ still gallery, the Marilyn Manson music video "Rock is Dead", previews of the game & Animatrix episodes, and an exclusive preview of the second film. All of this will come in collectible foil packaging whilst worldwide release dates should fall along similar lines. Thanks to 'FanHalen'.
Ooo! Foil packaging!
Doesn't sound like a new edit. I really doubt I'm going to be replacing my old Matrix DVD. -

Darkhorizons dispels the rumor...
Star Wars: Episode VII: After recent speculation based on what sounded like a misinterpreted quote, George Lucas has finally and clearly ruled out further adventures after 'Jedi'. Lucas told Infobeat that he had PREVIOUSLY CONSIDERED the idea but has since canned it totally - "I thought it might be fun to bring Carrie (Fisher) and Mark (Hammill) and Harrison (Ford) back when they're 65 and make another movie with them. But I'm going to be over 60 when I finish this and it takes 10 years to do a trilogy. I'm not going to spend my last 10 years doing Star Wars". Thanks to 'Trey'.

George won't do episode VII for sure...
You probably heard this one before. Just to be sure for those who haven't heard it... According to Dark Horizons news (5/29/2002), it said:
Star Wars: Episode VII: After recent speculation based on what sounded like a misinterpreted quote, George Lucas has finally and clearly ruled out further adventures after 'Jedi'. I am fine with the six movies. :)

Hey! Editors! Little thing called a SPOILER!Geezus!
Even John Katz knows enough to put spoiler notices on his articles and hides the meat in the BODY, not the bloody header (never mind putting it in a completely unthoughtful, unoriginal title). For crying out loud Chrisd, thanks for ruining the episode for me.
Just about every other news site out there that deals with TV/movie info knows what spoiler warnings are and how to use them. May I politely suggest that the editors of Slashdot take a peek at Dark Horizons or Trek Today and get a clue.
Not everyone in this world lives by the schedule of the US East coast. Twit.

Amber and Forever War, too...This came across dark horizons today. Sci-fi will also be making versions of Zelazny's Amber books, Haldeman's Forever War, and Battlestar Galactica!
Battlestar Galactica & Many More (TV): The Sci-Fi Channel has issued a press release about all sorts of new projects it'll be doing shortly and there's quite a few in there that caught people by suprise. Along with the 20-hour epic miniseries "Taken", there'll numerous 4-hour mini-series in the works based on various things ranging the famous atmospheric computer game "Myst" to award winning sci-fi novels like "The Forever War" and "The Chronicles of Amber". One that caught many off guard though is a 4-hour mini-series based on the 70's TV series classic "Battlestar Galactica". Its been well known that "X-Men" producer Tom DeSanto has been developing Galactica for over a year now with Bryan Singer first attached (he pulled out of directing duties later on). The announcement today mentioned neither of them, rather people like Star Trek writer Ronald D. Moore penning, David Eick ("American Gothic", "Spy Game") exec producing and Breck Eisner directing. The worrying thing is that rumours are indicating this will forget pretty much all the old show's characters and rather be a teen 90210 style adventure in space, however the decision won't be finalised for a few weeks. In other TV news it seems David Caruso and Rory Cochrane will star in the planned "CSI" spin-off for next year, Marcia Gay Harden has joined CBS' "In the Echo" and Kyle McLahlan & Andie MacDowell will star in the veterinarian-subject show "Jo". Thanks to Futon Critic & CinEmpire

Shot by Shot
If you simply can't wait for the trailer tonight, you can read the shot by shot description on Dark Horizons. I haven't read anything about this movie so as to not spoil it, but I figure it's ok to read the description of the trailer we are all going to see tonight anyway.

Re:Here's a better article
Probably because any potential action's not based in copyright, but in trademark.
I'm not sure it is. I wasn't able to find a live trademark for Goldfinger as a movie title on the USPTO site, and I haven't seen the TM designation used with Goldfinger on any of the MGM sites I've been to. More likely it's a violation of MPAA rules, which are probably legally enforced through contracts with the studios (I'm guessing). Certainly the MPAA appears to be involved (see here). -
It's going to suck. Big time.
But don't take my word for it. Here, read this script review.

You want to see realistic? Okay, so it's not a *chick*, but still, I think this is impressive for a completely CGI character... check out the link:

Pretty damn amazing, as far as I'm concerned.

How's This For Real Looking? Here's a neat swimsuit pic of Aki, and for the ladies, here's one of Gray.
At first I thought it was the models for the characters, but it's the CGI.

Conflicting ReportsAccording to Dark Horizons, you shouldn't hold your breath for Indy 4;
Indiana Jones 4: The Calgary Sun talked with Steven Spielberg's producing partner Kathleen Kennedy who had some disheartening news for those eager to see a fourth Indy film: "The truth is there has been a lot of discussion amongst all of us connected with the film but to be honest there is no script because there isn't even a writer in place. It sounds like a slam dunk to do another Indiana Jones but you have to get everyone available and committed and then you have to get a screenplay that excites everyone. In reality that could probably take years".
