Professional? Ballmer?!?
How is that less professional than Ballmer running around making everyone deaf or better yet, making a complete ass of himself on this shocking microsoft windows ad 15 years ago
There is a time and place when you have to be professional but it's not true that because you're in a business that you have to be politically correct 100% of the time.
Look at the way despair.com's faq is written and then think twice. -
Location is a meat game.heard that before? Yep it's Gibson. 2004 may be remembered as one the final gasps of the right. Globalization inevitable. It isn't some sort of wishful, after the loss doctrine for the Left elite. The neo-cons want to build walls against change and unfamiliar ideas.
Unfortunately for them, their own plans are about to lead them to cultural ruin. Bush's plan to provide High Speed internet to the nation should be read as what to him would seem akin to the Rural Electrification Project. Where the idea was, lets get power to the people out in the farms so they will be more competive and produce more. That sort of backfired. They got used to the power and started wanting more. More TVs, DVD, Fancy cars and the lowly Banana.
The upshot was that the young started to abandon the farms in droves. As they did the cheap labor of the farm children was replaced by cheap labor from immigrants. The old cycle was that the Farm would be inherited by the children of the farmer and next generation would take over. As the found new jobs as computer programmers and got MBAs they let their parents sell of the old family farm to large agro businesses. Large Farms got larger and Cities got bigger.
Wiring the rest of the county will give reason for companies to relocate to cheaper parts of the US and bring good jobs to town who's main income was the local speed trap. If your a Conservative Rural Republican in a Red State, visions of selling farmland to city slickers for housing and commercial parks must seem like heaven. Voting for Bush was voting your pocketbook.
Now here comes the other side of the coin. Unlike mining towns of the 19th and early 20th Century you really can't lock people in. Your neigbors will undercut your housing deals because they all got buckets of land and nobody to grow whatever.
City Slicker Programmers and the upper skilled workforce are not Conservative Rural Republicans, There those damn Blue State Liberals. They eat fish RAW!!!!, A lot of them aren't even from the USA, most dress like they were extras in that confusing movie The Matrix. As Techs and Tech businesses move to the boondocks they will turn the red states blue.
Right now the current FUD is that Liberals don't respect people with Faith. The fact is that the rural people can't afford to break the back of the liberal technology complex. Ever wondered why Strict harsh and very communist China hasn't stompped all over Hong Kong? China needs Hong Kong more then Hong Kong needs China.

CBC news report on "Internet"
That was interesting. At one point in the video, I saw a 1992 copyright flash across a screen, so this video must date from circa 1992.

Considering this monumentous occasion. I suggest everyone head on over to ebaumsworld and check out the 70's/80's video about "Internet" and how great it is!

They don't deserve it
If Australia wants to do things like knock out violence in their country by banning video games and blaming others for their own problems then they don't deserve to have it. I think many Americans had this point after columbine, yet nothing happened. As I stated before, video games are not violent, the people that play them are. Also, any video game can teach a person to have better aim, catch blocks, still teaches aiming techniques, so is it just as violent?

Aks Jeeves
They need to work the their technology a little though. -
2 things"The AP is reporting that Ask Jeeves is looking to distinguish itself from its competitors by adding new tools for visitors to save and organize links to Web pages they find through the company's online search engine. "
Ok, 2 things, first off, your web browser called and it wants its Bookmarks back.
Second, how ironic that this story shows up today when I just discovered Aks Jeeves on Ebaumsworld last night.

Makes perfect senseYeah! That post made perfect sense to me.
Reminds me of the Retro-Encabulator...
The original machine had a base plate of prefabulated amulite, surmounted by a malleable logarithmic casing in such a way that the two spurving bearings were in direct line with the pentametric fan. The latter consisted simply of six hydrocoptic marzelvanes, so fitted to the ambifacient lunar waneshaft that side fumbline was effectively prevented. The main winding was of the normal lotus-0-delta type placed in panendermic semiboiloid slots in the stator, every seventh conductor being connected by a nonreversible tremie pipe to the differential gridlespring on the "up" end of the grammeters.

Re:Shockwave?
I am assuming that ou are using linux as the shockwave and flash are readily available for M$ products. Interestingly enough macromedia also releases these plugins for netscape/mozilla/mozilla firefox for linux as well. I find these plugins to work just as well as there windows counterparts. I need the plugin to look at the motorcycle manufacturer sites and when I get writers block I go and play flash games at ebaums world. my point is that the plugin is available and it is easy to install. It may not be open source but the software is distributed freely and is activley developed for linux. WHen my nieces want to use my computer they can't tell the difference between thier dad's XP machine and My Slack Box for web purposes... just my experience!

Spoilers?
Didn't read it because of the spoilers warning.
Finally! A slashdot post that I can choose to not RTFA but still leave a comment without anyone getting too mad at me!
But seriously - I'm with the poster who made a comment questioning the writer's sexuality. Kirsten Dunst is amazing. I'd also suggest the original poster check this out.
But in all seriousness I'm quite eager to see this movie. It had literally been years since I last indulged in serious comic book or action figure purchasing - and I NEVER buy movie souvenirs - but I happened to spot the new Spidey figure with tons of articulation points and magnets in his hands and feet. Oh man. I must've played with that for hours. I never knew my fridge could be a source of so much amusement.
I love the series - it's definitely being handled better than Batman. All naysayers can eat my farts! -
Despite Kirsten Dunst?!?!

Re:Easy port number!
Perhaps, for those of us less Douglas Adams aware, 69 is 4 2 would be a more memorable
;-) However, if you see nine dolphins, maybe working on your Douglas Adams lore would be more appropriate. -

What about auto-generating step data?
Why not just analyze the music and create step data based on certain beats, patterns, etc... Don't they do this sort of thing in visualizations already? Granted, it won't be as good as hand created step data, since you can make it harder or easier depending on your preference. But then, you could just fine tune the data by editing it yourself.
DDR is a pretty cool game (especially to watch) except it can get very annoying after a while. Case in point, I was at the CPL in Dallas and they had a DDR2 machine set up close by. Not many people were playing it so it sat at the title screen with some annoying dj announcer guy repeating D-D-R over and over again. It is pretty cool to watch some of those guys dance, nut no matter how good any DDR player is I can't imagine they are better than this guy. -

Re:Better killers
On a less human note, it is occasionally more desirable to wound than kill. For instance, in the civil war many generals told their soldiers to inflict non-lethal wounds.
Yes, correct. Wounding your enemy is frequently militarily preferred to killing him. Not only do you force the opponents to spend immediate resources evacuating the wounded, but there are longer-term consequences.
Decades later, when the nation's leaders are proposing another military adventure to the citizenry, the sight of crippled veterans panhandling on sidewalks will serve as a graphic reminder of the horrors that can result. Wounded soldiers discourage war, but dead ones can actually encourage it: the victim can no longer speak for himself, so he becomes a tool for revenge-oriented patriotic pagentry staged by the government.
So we see that there are multiple reasons for military commanders to want the option of trying to maim the opposition rather than kill them. And that's what bring us to the "retarded logic" alluded to above. Because according to international treaties like the Geneva convention, it is illegal to choose weapons that are more likely to hurt than kill.
NATO soldiers are not allowed to use shotguns, hollowpoint bullets, or anti-personnel lasers, because, perversely, they might leave the target alive. The 5.56mm rounds fired from an M16 are required to be jacketed to reduce their chance of tearing off an arm or leg, making nonlethal injuries more treatable.
The "Laws of War" are supposedly meant to make war more humane, but they actually make it more common. By encouraging killing over wounding, they keep wars tidy, and make it easier for national leaders to initiate violent combats. -

I'm a 12 year old Linux loving girl :/
Considering that I'm both a 12 year old girl and a Linux user, this doesn't fare well for me.
