odd that
EB Games just recently changed the 'ships on date' to 7/14....
-
Another possible date?

Overpriced is unfortunately right....and that may be why the majority of Lego-set-purchasers I know (myself included) are over the age of 21 and purchasing them for themselves. With most of the sets that kids would actually be able to squeeze a decent amount of fun out of being over $40.00, and most of the affordable sets being so rinky-dink, a child given the choice would probably ask their parent for a comparably priced video game instead of a $50 Lego set.
I had (and dearly loved) piles of Legos when I was little, but most of those came as hand-me-downs in buckets. Maybe we can convince the folks at Lego to stop spending as much effort in producing new, specialized blocks for new, specialized sets with fancy graphics on their boxes and start selling things in buckets.
On another note, I bet that if someone were to set up a PayPal account to donate to the Lego corporation, that the mobs of Lego maniacs out there would be able to generate a significant amount of money for them.

Re:Price?Don't worry about it; I'm crafty - it's going to be $39.99
Oh, and my signature states that you should not reply. It doesn't say to reply with a snide comment but simply to not reply at all. Please don't waste my time in the future! Have a good day!

Re:Just like the teracubes
according to EBGames doom3 is set to release on 4/14!! (hope thats true) here's the link

Re:n-gage? meh...
I forget the name of it, but a new n-gage like competitor is coming out that supposedly may cost as little as $100... It also won't require you to remove the battery just to change games...
Yeah, there is, it's called the Just Buy a Fricking Game Boy Advance Already, For Crying Out Loud. -
American McGee's Alice
Sort of a combo FPS / Role / Puzzler. Some of the most beautiful and imaginative artwork I've seen in a game. Good soundtrack too. Like Return to Castle Wolfenstein, it's Quake3 engine based. And it's down to $9.99 at ebgames.

strange?
Does anyone find it strange how little hype KOTOR has been getting? I only own a PS2 and a PC... I had actually considered getting an X-Box just to play it. About two weeks ago I was in EB and I asked one of the sales people when it was coming out for PC, and he said "oh, that's just an internet rumor...". I asked if he could double check for me, and to his surprise he said it was coming out in November. It's not even on the front of EB Games Website.
I'm frankly very shocked that such a highly critically acclaimed game, initially viewed as being X-Box exclusive, is receiving so little advertising this close to it's ship date. With so many quality games released this month, I'm baffled. Star Wars games usually sell okay just because of the name, let alone ones that have been this well received. -
Re:When
I'm not a moron. I know how to pick my hardware and build a 1337 gaming rig without having some company pick it for me.
And you can do this for $99?? -
This is NOT validated yet
from the IGN article:
At Nintendo's request, we have removed the package art from our site. With no official Nintendo announcement, this is still to be treated as a rumor.
Also, the link provided to EBGame's reference of this bundle has been taken down.

N-GAGE FUCKING 0WNZMike, when you go down to Long Beach you should take your N-Gage with you and N-Gage in some exciting Tony Hawk Pro Skater action! That game is awesome! The goddamned motherfucking N-Gage is so fucking good - it makes me and Mike Hawk, literally, shit our pants. It's just that fucking good. So all you niggaz out there, go out and buy one, right now!
Mikey, where's the love you cumdumpster?

Re:wrong #1 reasonI would think that anyone who was serious about playing a MMO on a console would already have invested in a keyboard, they're even available at EB so the gamers don't even have to go to another store.
The PC is king because the PC is a much more mature platform for these types of games. The online capability of consoles is still in its infancy.
-
September or Nov?
Is it really coming out September cause good ole ebgames.com is saying sometime in November...
Any word on a demo?

this is fud, eidos makes crap games
go search amazon for soul calibur 2:
gamecube - Amazon.com Sales Rank: 10
xbox - Amazon.com Sales Rank: 49
ps2 - Amazon.com Sales Rank: 55
similar reports have been echoed by major retailers such as electronics boutique
check out their front page and you'll see the #1-selling game is the gamecube soul calibur 2, followed by the xbox soul calibur 2, followed by...f-zero gx for the gamecube.
content counts, people. nintendo makes great first-party games, and people buy them. namco made a great third-party game with a compelling bonus feature, and people have bought it. -
Specifics on PS2 Greatest Hits
I didn't post this in the article, cos I had to find it from a few different sources, but:
This thumbnail index on EBGames.com clearly has a red-striped Greatest Hits version of the Kingdom Hearts box. The Kingdom Hearts page used to have it too, but they changed it back.
Also, last month Amazon.com accidentally released Greatest Hits packaging for Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, ATV Offroad Fury 2, SOCOM: US Navy SEALs. I also found an obscure release list or two listing Sly Cooper for Greatest Hits release in September.
If anyone can find all of this info in one place, with actual release dates, it'd be great. -
EBGames PS2 Budget Info
At EBGames.com, the only PS2 game out of the ones listed in this story that is budget right now is Final Fantasy X - it's even on their PS2 front page.

Buy a fucking PC.
[pc gamer rant mode, pissed at Mac users for whom I have no sympathy when it comes to lack of software on their platform]
Buy a fucking PC and stop it with the "I'm so artsy and better than you because I use a Mac" crap. When you get a PC you'll be able to play:
* Battlefield 1942 (plus the excellent Desert Combat modification)
* Planetside
* Tribes 2
* Counterstrike (ancient but goodie)
* Half-Life (superb for straight-out deathmatch)
* Half-Life 2 (when it's out and kicks ass in a few months)
* Unreal / Quake / Doom anything ..or many other shooters among the thousands of fine videogames that you can buy for the PC.
In conclusion: Stop whining. Anyone with a Mac is a lemming for buying into an overpriced, overhyped proprietary system that's way back from the bleeding edge when it comes to technology (just like the upcoming "64-bit" Macs can't actually run 64-bit code and will be stuck in 32-bit mode; older PC graphics cards being rebranded and resold for $100 more because it has the Apple name on the box; lack of letting companies produce Apple clones, etc, etc.)
If you want to blame anybody - blame Apple for keeping such a tight grip on their platform that nobody can do anything interesting with it.
Can't use a computer? Get a Mac. Want to play games? Get a PC. Think PCs are too complicated? You're buying into Apple's FUD. They aren't too complicated for millions of people. (What are you, retarded? - get a Playstation 2 or an Xbox and shut the fuck up).

Re:So now....
It worked for Nintendo with all the NES and SNES games. Didn't you pay $50 for Yoshi's Island just a few years ago, and you're paying another $30 for it now? Nintendo has proven gamers are willing to pay to take their favorite games with them. Nostalgia is also key here so perhaps we'll see Crash Bandicoot as a release title...
-
Heh
Well, most people don't realize that the game is buggy as hell until they've already dropped money down on it.
Now that Electronics Boutique (among others) have started revoking their return policies you're pretty much screwed if you purchase a lemon. -
Re:A dying trend?
Nah. This new release has some pretty bad cover art...
-
Re:It Friday "Dont Read Carefully" day
$5 million / 17,000 = $294 each.
The prices of the various playstation models are (source1) (source2):
PS1: $50
PS1+LCD: $150
PS2 (may2003) $179
(may2002) $199
(pre-may2002) $299
Sounds like they are using the older PS2 price even though the article didn't mention the exact model. The price could be valid; the date of that heist wasn't given. I don't think the original playstations ever sold for that much, but I could be wrong. -
Re:Where is a cheap place to buy it?
In my experience, the options are to either wait a couple weeks for the "newness" to die down and then try and grab a copy at ebay. When a game is as fresh and as popular as Frozen Throne is though, you'll probably be best off picking it up from a local shop or, as you mentioned grabbing it from ebgames.com. I mean if you're going to have to pay $35 for it anyway, might as well get whatever else extra that you can.

Re:Hollywood and the rise of the "blockbuster" gam
You know the most beautiful thing about that Slate article? The advertisment I got at the bottom of the page...
-
Re:SnoodExactly. Snood is a low quality rip off of a game that sucked to begin with. But if you are going to play it, I'd rather shell out cash for the real deal, not some cheap hack. Taito should sue this motherfucker.
Personally I'd rather play Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo.
-
Re:What else is new
Scratch that.
Don't order VJ from Gamestop. EBgames.com lists it at $40 as described.

Re:Great Machine, but...
Actually, I got the Madcatz "SP Pack" or whatever, which came with a metal case with a fitted foam interior, a travel charger, a set of retractable earbuds, and the headphone adapter, which has a charging passthrough so you can do both. While the earbuds are nothing to write home about, and the case is acceptable, getting the car charger AND the headphone adapter w/passthrough was pretty much worthwhile.
Here it is. The "Macro Kit SP". -
Game Boy Player costs $49.99 sold separatelyIt will cost $49.99 sold separately:
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/categories/products/pr
o duct.asp?pf_id=233034This is the same price as new games. So, basically this is the same deal as the bundled game deal I mentioned in my previous post:
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/ads/shops/createabundl
e /gc/default.aspSomehow, I'm a little disappointed, as I thought they would drop the price a little more. Regardless, I may still pick one up.

Will a free game still come with the $149 package?Any word on whether or not a free game still comes with the GameCube with this deal? Or will the Gameboy Player "replace" the free game in the deal?
If you don't know what I'm talking about, several (all?) stores have been bundling a GameCube with a game for $149.
For example:
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/ads/shops/createabundl
e /gc/default.aspThe Gameboy player is definitely cool, but being I already have a GBA, I'd prefer the GameCube + Metroid Prime = $149.

"Mod Parent Up" or "I Concur"Ico is, without question, the single greatest gaming experience I have had. Says David Smith in his review for ps2.ign.com:
Ico is a bit of a difficult study. Well, honestly, why beat around the bush? This is the damnedest game to come down the pike in a long while, and not just in the Buchigire Kongou/Drum Mania "ain't that goofy?" sense. In gameplay terms, it is an extremely simple piece of work. On the most basic level, the challenge is just to move from point A to point B, overcoming the inanimate obstacles in between. As an experience, though, it's almost impossible to describe.
The Ico team of developers made absolutely sure that every aspect of the Ico experience contributed to the atmospheric oneness of the game, as a whole.
Ico is short, Ico is quiet, and Ico is in fact nearly incomprehensible. It has an action quotient very close to zero. It has a story, but you see and hear only tiny hints and snatches, spending most of the game on one side of an impenetrable language barrier. So what is there to actually recommend this game, given that I do recommend it almost without reservation? The experience.
The feeling of simply being in the world that Ico creates is one of the most fascinating things I've ever seen in a videogame. The visuals, sound, and original puzzle design come together to make something that is almost, if not quite, completely unlike anything else on the market, and feels wonderful because of it. The sensation is like a very strange dream -- a little frightening, a little beautiful, intriguing throughout -- and its only main problem is the same one all dreams suffer from. It's over a good deal sooner than you might like.
Besides the simple elegance of the premise (a young boy with horns guides a strangely beautiful girl out of an enormous labyrinthian castle as shadowy abstractions of evil attempt to abduct her at every turn), the designers have managed to turn a very linear quest into something much more rewarding: they have created an emotional glimpse into a rich, complete (yet completely foreign), beautiful world. If you manage to get your hands on a copy of this now-classic title for the Playstation 2, you'll understand my words the first time you pan the camera around with the right analog stick and see, off in the distance, a part of this gargantuan castle you visited hours before. The sense of scale and of environment are nigh indescribable. -
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo for GBA
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo is coming out for the Gameboy Advance on March 31st (note: I don't make any money off that link... feel free to buy it elsewhere). One of my favorite games coming out on one of my favorite systems! (I picked up my platinum GBA:SP on Friday) If you've never played the game before and like puzzle games *at all*, you should definitely try it out.

Accessories
There are a lot of messages posted right now from people complaining about ergonomics and lack of a head phone jack. There are already 3rd party accessories out to deal with these problems... partially.
-
It's easy to show it's legal and proper...
If you can afford a lawyer, that is. Beyond that, it would seem to me that backing up your games to cd's or dvd's to preserve them, and then playing these copies, is a legitimate need for modchipping. (I know I'm preaching to the choir here)
THere's a market for items such as this Game doctor , but these only restored scratched copies. They do no good if the originals get stolen, are run over by your roommate on inline skates, etc. I think that protecting your investment with a $0.50 blank and a $50 mod chip (or however much it costs) is the only intelligent thing to do. Notwithstanding that you actually own the bloody hardware and can do what you like with it, this is an easy, direct argument that shows modchips aren't only used for piracy.
Of course, I'm not sure how much this line of reasoning jives with the DMCA, which should just plain be repealed. -

Re:Gamecube?
For example.
007 Nightfire for GCN: $49.99
007 Nightfire for PC: $19.99
at ebgames
You will find that's similar for a lot of games on both platforms. Ghost Recon? $49.99 GCN, $39.99 PC (GOTY edition even, for the PC). -
Greeeaaaaattt...
The Getaway (PS2) is already doing this kind of thing. They got licenses to use brand names for cars (BMW, etc). and there's a billboard type thing in the game that has Samsung, McDonalds, Sanyo, TDX, and Coca Cola plastered all over it.
Screenshot can be viewed here

Re:Huh?
Now only on XBox, with Mac and PC ports still nowhere in evidence.
Um.. Look here.
Note that MS isn't to blame for this most likely; i had to wait quite a while for GTA3 on pc. I think its the fault of all these dopes that buy a console thats outdated a few minutes after you get home. -
Yet more thanks...Yeah, I'll go search for a copy. Ebay only has some macs versions. EBGames has MOO2 for ten bucks, although it's jewel case only. (BTW, EBgames also has MOO3 for pre-order. Ships 2/25.) Dig those system requirements, too. I haven't seen a game mention Hayes-compatible modems or IPX in a long time.
Gamestop has MOO2 for ten dollars as well. Doesn't say whether it's jewel case or not.
I went and grabbed MOO1. Only got 5.1KB/sec. Still only took a couple minutes...

See? -
Best of 2001A look back at last year's Gamespot's Best of 2001 Games shows Max Payne at #2 and Serious Sam: The First Encounter at #1. Since both games were published by the now-defunct GodGames, they are available at a huge discount.
Do yourself a favor and go to your local EB and pick up the Pack 5 Action Games which includes Serious Sam TFE, Heavy Metal 2 FAAK, Myth II, Oni and Rune for the grand total of $4.99! (Forget what the price says on the box, it will ring up less than 5 bucks). Serious Sam is a GREAT mindless shooter!
Also, Compusa had Max Payne for $4.99 right after Thanksgiving, so for less than $10 I bought the Top 2 PC games of last year and a whole lot more!
It pays to be a year behind the curve...

Re:Get something out now
Why didn't you wait until the Linux client was released to purchase the game? NWN hasn't disappeared from stores yet, and in fact is cheaper now than when it was first released.

DHTML bug @ ebgames.com?
So, was the DHTML bug the reason why the image map (top right: Help|My Orders|etc) on the EB Games wasn't working for me in 1.2? It seems to be okay in 1.2.1.
