Re:Nope.
I still don't see how some people can read, "This could use improvement" as "I think this sucks."
That's a perspective thing. The two are pretty close in meaning, and it's all about which context the reader _perceives_ it to be in. A lot of people skim through press, and I'm scared for the perception those types would get. Not everyone is completely with the movement, so to speak, and not everyone hears exactly what is said.
After reading more of your work I totally understand where you're coming from and now have a lot of respect for the good questions you ask and the excellent research you do to find their answers. But, whenever politics (of any type) is involved, people's fleeting opinions (often more heart than mind - ref: the healthcare drama) are affected, and so timing is important.
In your valiant pursuit of human progress, truth and freedom in software, it may be easy to ignore the importance of such timing. It may even seem beneath you to give it any consideration, but that doesn't stop the other side from using it to their advantage. Just like how a white flag does not provide any defense against missiles. Oh wait, talking of missiles I had to search this one out from way back: http://membres.lycos.fr/aulon/fun/dilbert.linux.gif
All this is just my opinion, really. To the astute reader, your post signifies that open source is catching on and cleaning up its act to be truly purposeful and that is only a plus against the overcharging proprietary camp. No doubt it is a positive effort, but, I opine, not a well timed one. -

'Now tell me - where has anyone claimed that the author of TFA was a shill?'
'...most likely an expendable pawn'
This is what's called a 'metaphor', and is meant to suggest one under the control of another, more powerful entity. You may be confusing 'pawn' with 'porn', a common mistake often thought to be responsible for the (frequently observed) sharp decline in chess club attendance after the first week, when the terminology is explained. To illustrate:

In Ghent, Belgium you have the same only a bit more low-tech.

Flashback ported to SDL
A great developer did a full engine for Flashback in SDL, it's called REminiscence, and it even supports the MOD files from the Amiga version. His version works out of the box on Windows and Linux/BSD/etc.. I also ported the same program to Mac OS X so while it's not trivial to get the data files, it's at least playable on all major platforms.

Linux/OS X and the demise of raw
I have really fond memories of this game. Although sporting frustrating gameplay by today's standards, back then the graphics and atmosphere were nothing short of breathtaking.
More recently I played through it again on Linux using the now-defunct raw that was shut down at the request of Eric Chahi.
I see no mention of any versions of this updated release for anything other than Windows XP unfortunately. I'm hoping there will be a version for Linux/OS X as well because I just don't want to believe the original author shut down any hope of anyone not using Windows of playing this amazing game. -

Re:Hum... translate what politics sayActually, translating politics is a very serious business in multi-lingual countries like Canada. I read that at least one research group was using one of the Canadian Hansards to learn translation between English and French. Or, at least Quebecois and English, eh.

According to the friendly article, his life is not one big homage to "Star Wars," he says, and he has plenty of other interests, including classical music, modern dance, fine dining, dive bars, working out and reading about contemporary art.

Re:Have 4 Xboxes...some drives are just crap
http://membres.lycos.fr/zouu/Media_XBOX.xls/ i found the link for xbox media. Sofar I don't believe that there is a way to detect by serial number. I have heard of most people (including two friends who I've helped softmod) return them for the dvd drives, and models (1.0/1.1 are the best) although you can use the softmod on the new 1.6.

Re:thoughts
So this is what they call MagBeam. Sounds a lot like MagnetoHydroDynamics (MHD) to me. IIRC this was researched in the 60s (by US, UK, France, USSR...) then abandoned by almost everyone except the US.
Glad to see this technology making a come-back at a time when buzz is very high on the space industry :) -
Re:War in Europe - American entrythe common European viewpoint that the US's participation was less significant compared to the US's point of view
Participation can mean things besides actually fighting. Those Europeans should remember what Charles de Gaulle said on the topic:- La France n'est pas seule !

Driv3r
The game Driv3r, available on PS/2 and X-box has 3 cities:
- Miami
- Nice (France), and villages around
- Istanbul (Turkey)
The cities are quite well rendered. I know Nice so I can talk, but I can't compare Vice CIty in GTA and Miami in Driv3r as I've never been to Miami.
The game is not as fun as GTA, in particular free driving (out of missions), because it is separated from the scripted game (missions) , the number of secrets is just of 10 per city, and side missions are not interesting.
But the main game (missions in a scenario) is very entertaining and of progressive difficulty.

Another Example: SaGa Frontier
SaGa Frontier was a console RPG from Square for the Playstation 1 that passed almost unnoticed in the USA (the weird and argueably broken gameplay presumably had something to do with it). One of the playable characters was a woman, Asellus, who developed a somewhat romantic relationship with another female character. I remember finding out about this in the GIA review, and corraborated later when I had the chance to play the game.
For some reason I didn't consider this that shocking... I've always found that anime and manga are open to same-sex relationships and gender-bending characters (like the lesbian couple in Sailor Moon and the affeminate Pisces Aphrodite in Saint Seiya), so I wasn't that shocked to find it out in a japanese videogame. But it was pretty novel for american released videogames for that time - I don't think Nintendo would have allowed during the NES or SNES eras! -
Prior art
Probably nobody will notice this post but if you want to look for prior art there was a comic book where the villain's goal was to put advertisement on the moon.
He used hypnotised henchmen talking drawkcab (backward, that is) which led to a slight problem

Prior art
Zorglub did this already in 1961, although with limited success.

Where's Support for the PVR350's with OSD?
That's what I want to know... if you can't view the on screen display on the TV using arguably "the best" PVR card (consumer level) out there, that's pretty crappy and not useful for me.
From what I understand you can get this to work with MythTv but you have to find a X Driver for IVTV module and everything isn't a 100% stable yet (again from what I understand)
I guess I can only hope that the support of the OSS community continues and improves and makes a product that surpasses the propietary one...

In French...
Alexandre PUKALL published a free list of more than 10 thousand recipes about a decade ago. It's available in various forms on the Net. My take on it is an easy to search windows help file (.chm) (use xchm in Linux), but take it easy with my server as it's 7Mb (and it's all in French).

Re:Not just the same but even more so...
Morning Musume is the main group in a pop music production venture called the "Hello! Project." The songs you mentioned were by smaller groups in the project. Summer Reggae Rainbow is by "7-nin Matsuri" and the other song, called Mini Moni Telephone! Ring Ring Ring is by a kids' group called "Mini Moni."
Nevertheless, Morning Musume and its various groupings do tend to appeal mostly to young people. And middle-aged salarymen. (For the reason why, see here). Which I suppose, tangientally touches upon one of the major Japanese cultural exports.

Re:Pixar will be aroundI'd love to see Pixar put out something a bit darker, with a bit more complex character development and a bit less "free toy with your Happy Meal purchase" oriented...
So would I, but unfortunately cg animation is being treated the same as traditional animation in North America. Ie, cartoons are for kids, which is most unfortunate. The mediocrity of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within didn't help much either.
There have been some darker features made in other countries. Kaena and Wonderful Days (although technically Wonderful Days is more Anime than cg) are the only two I can think of at the moment. Both France and Korea have a more receptive audience for "serious" cartoons, somthing that North America seems to lack. That being said, perhaps the market for such things will open up.

Geez, I love Discovery channel sometimes. They broadcast a one-hour program about this last week (maybe it was a repeat). All flights going overseas from NA having to go through Gander; gulf stream, stacked, pre-determined flight pipelines, "on-ramp" priorities, etc. -
