New Netflix/BBC adaptation coming out in 2017

Re:Alternate Title
It's obvious that Bay grafted Megan Fox's character into the story to be titillating to male audiences and 'empowering' to female ones: ie a feminist view of what men 'only' want and what women 'should' want (it backfired however, there's no pleasing feminists). In the opening scenes, it's clear she knows cars and understands tech while Spike/Sam can barely handle the car he just bought. Throughout the movie, he's relegated to clueless idiot status. Even when he's entrusted with important tasks, the implication is that he's incompetent without her. This contrasts with the character from the original cartoon series who, at various points, was entrusted with critical tasks and challenges, no privilege checking needed.
I don't disagree with most of your points, but I would be wary about defending Megan Fox's character from Transformers. Some of what you said is certainly valid, but one of the biggest complaints feminists have with media is the objectification of women. And it's difficult to argue that's she's an empowered badass and not objectified at all when this is literally the first shot of her in the entire series.
I generally just try to take each complaint one at a time to assess if it's valid or not. Some feminists complaints about the industry, or media, or society, or fucking whatever are actually valid. Maybe even most, I don't know. But in my experience, there's roughly as many good arguments as bad from either side of these issues.

verbinski about why bioshock won't happen:
"I couldn't really get past anybody that would spend the money that it would take to do it and keep an R rating," he explained, "Alternately, I wasn't really interested in pursuing a PG-13 version. Because the R rating is inherent. Little Sisters and injections and the whole thing. I just wanted to really, really make it a movie where, four days later, you're still shivering and going, "Jesus Christ!"... It's a movie that has to be really, really scary, but you also have to create a whole underwater world, so the pricetag is high. We just didn't have any takers on an R-rated movie with that pricetag."

Re:Sony phailed
You'd think that, but it does - bizarrely - appear that, for example, Blu-ray is taking off
It does? I just saw an ad for Disney's latest re-release. They're now bundling a DVD and a Blu-ray disc in the same package. They are spinning it as letting consumers take advantage of Blu-ray while getting the portability of DVD, but a less charitable way to put it is that consumers don't want to be locked into Blu-ray and have stayed away in droves, so Disney are giving Blu-ray discs away free with the DVDs in the hope of hooking them.

Hmm... yes, that's because they are doing The Black Freighter and Under the Hood as a seperate DVD set to coincide with the movies release.

german tax shelter
that's how he does it: you can't lose money backing a money losing film made by uwe boll. he basically has exploited a financial loop hole that the german goverment instituted in a well-meaning way to get german movies made, but instead their law got raped by a troll called boll making bad non-german movies based on video games
the good news: the germans repealed the law awhile back
so how and why is he still making movies?
because of comments like yours. no, really: the first rule of public relations is that there is no such thing as bad public relations. he gets his name out there. he is now riding on his notoreity. hated and vilified, but his name still gets out there. that gets him interest. really

Hands off my music
What is this, whiner's week?
The only way you're going to keep control of the listening experience is by renting users their devices and using DRM to keep them from compressing it. ...um, on second thought, that's not going to work either, is it?
This reminds me of Michael Moore's rather novel objections to the Sicko leak. His problem wasn't that piracy would effect his bottom line, but that he intended the film to be seen in a theatre, and not on an mobile media player.
Well, guess what, buddy - if I paid for the thing fair and square, I don't care what you think (not that I'd care even if I didn't pay for it, but that's just me). I'm going to make my own decisions about how I enjoy my copy of the music you created.
Try being a little less of a tightwad and control freak about my life. -

Re:Shooting themselves in the foot
I have also seen a few occasions recently where there were no early screenings for films. There are various reasons claimed but I imagine it has a different reality. When movie studios spend so much money on advertisement and "buzz" having a small percentage of people (including critics) see the movie early is detrimental to profits unless the movie lives up to its hype. We all know how rare that is.

Whatever happened to Spaceballs sequel?
What ever happened to the Spaceballs sequel that was announced a couple years ago?
Mel Brooks Writing Spaceballs Sequel
Source: Ain't-It-Cool-News
September 28, 2004
In a Q&A with Playbill magazine, Mel Brooks says that he's currently working on a Spaceballs sequel. Here's the clip from the interview which starts off by talking about the big screen adaptation of The Producers.
Playbill: Will you have a role in it?
MB: It's doubtful, but I'm writing myself back into the Spaceballs sequel that I'm now writing, so you haven't seen the last of my face. Why another Spaceballs? It wouldn't feel right have anyone else play Yoghurt and the first one was the best experience I've had making a movie since Blazing Saddles.
Playbill: When can we expect that?
MB: Best case scenario: a week before the new Star Wars opens. Worst Case Scenario: a year after the new star wars opens. -

I collected various critics reviews(Leeched them from rottentomatoes)
OK I read some of the critics reviews, And it seems to be safe. The movie DOESN'T SUCK (at least not so bad), some of the critics actually liked it :)
by Jeff Otto. 2.5 / 5
by Kit Bowen. 0 / 4
by Edward Douglas. 7 / 10.
by Moriarty. Doesn't give a rating, but he loved it.
by Mike Sage, Peterborough This Week. 4.5 / 5.
by Kevin Carr (2.5/5)
by Sean Means, Salt Lake Tribune (1.5/5)
by Brian Orndorf, EFILMCRITIC.COM (rotten, D)
by Peter Hartlaub, SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE. (Didn't like it at all)
by Peter Howell, TORONTO STAR ("The dumbest")
After reading the various reviews (I didn't watch it - yet), It seems Silent Hill has some flaws:
a) The action part is slow and repetitive (Well, that's what you get in the game, duh). Perhaps having shorter and less running away sequences would have worked.
b) Some of the acting and dialogue is bad (altho not always, the critics who gave it a positive review forgive this point)
c) The plot is too confusing, and these parts are VERY LONG. Most of the critics would have enjoyed having less confusing plot parts. It seems Gans tried to explain the whole concept of Silent Hill, and ended up spoiling it.
But Some of the negative reviewers gave it a 2.5/5 (that means in my lingo: "Not that bad", or "good enough for a fan".
However, there's one point that ALMOST ALL reviewers give to Silent Hill: It's visually astounding. In other words, if you enjoyed Star Wars: Episode 1 despites the horrible story, you'll LOVE Silent Hill.
I particularly liked Moriarty's review, because he's NOT a gamer, and did NOT play the game. However, he might be biased because he's a fan of the horror gender. But hey, maybe that's representative of the intended audience!"SILENT HILL worked for me because of the confidence and command of director Christophe Gans. I'm not familiar with the source material at all, so I'm not going to discuss it as an adaptation, except in the broadest terms. I can't tell you how faithful it is to the already-established mythology of the various SILENT HILL games, but I can tell you that there are certain touches in the way the film's put together that seem like a sly nod to the basic experience of gaming.
...
Roger Ebert seemed to find the film's explanations baffling even as he was impressed by it technically. I'm not sure why this would confuse anyone... basically it boils down to a vengeful spirit looking for payback against the town that did it harm... but I also think the answers are far less important than the way the questions are presented. For example... I have no idea what the fuck Pyramid Head is, or how he's connected to the Demon, or what purpose he serves aside from freaking my shit out, and frankly, I don't care. He's one of the most striking images I've seen in a horror film in recent memory, and both of his big scenes are exhilarating. If you're tired of teenagers in danger and you're tired of remakes of -

Re:No sorry, please retake Sociology 101.
Force becomes necessary when people try to mix groups with materially differing beliefs, especially on things like ownership of property and conflict resolution, and they do not have the will to compromise.
In such a situation, I think the results would be a willful segregation of the populace into their separate factions (like the U.S. splitting into the Union and Confederacy) note that the Civil War was not actually a forgone conclusion to this dispute. The two of them could have amicably agreed to exist as separate countries (you might want to check out the independant film C.S.A.), but I daresay it was a measure of greed on both sides to "have it all" that caused the War to take place.
After all, if someone tells me to do something I would do on my own, am I under their control or my own?
I would say you were under your own control even if they told you to do it. The choice to obey them was yours.
But what happens in the hypothetical totalitarian state if the "ruling party" is strong enough to contain the population?
For that to happen, the ruling party would have to exist in a proportion great enough to actively control the entire population, and you end up with a government that may be bigger than the populace it's trying to rule. A situation like that would be more like a cult with an enslaved subgroup.
The result would still be the same, though. Barring a form of thought control, the decision to be ruled still rests with the people, they can revolt, and maybe they will die in the supression, but they wont be ruled anymore one way or another. It would be self-defeating for a ruler to kill all his own subjects.
The government is allowed to rule because the populace places that person or group above them (sometimes literally, a la carrying him on a throne above their heads). The moment the populace stops carrying him and lets him fall, he is nothing more than one of them.
Getting back on topic, Microsoft can demand a licensing fee for the iPods, Apple can choose to respect their authority to lobby such a fee and pay it. If businesses in masse decided the patent system was broken and to ignore it, what do you think would happen? -

The Creative Minds At WorkI have a friend who works at Google and he gave me a glimpse of the creative processes at work at the very top...
During the Christmas party, Sergey and Larry were driving a large radio controlled SUV around the offices.
Nothing unusual there.
So a few weeks later this same SUV comes bumping around the corner, with the top ripped off and a remote controllable camera mounted on the chassis. One of the two (Sergey & Larry) was navigating it, while the other was operating the camera.
I expect this is all part of their new Search Engine Strategy.

while you are at it check the other movies made by Timothy Hines.
They are almost all low-budget sci-fi movies, so don't get to mutch hopes about this film. Altougth a low budget/home made could turn out to be some great cult movies (Peter Jackson) this film doesn't give much hope on that happening.
So I think that Spielberg can handle the competition, and by he way his film was already rumored for a name change so it's probable that is version his very different from the book. -

Conan O'Brien is overratedas a Simpsons writer. While he's a brilliant talk-show host and did some good writing for the Simpsons, he is far too often given all the credit for the Simpsons' golden years. I think if you look at the writing credits you'll see that George Meyer's presence on staff is more closely correlated with Simpsons quality. He is attached to the movie, according to comingsoon.net.
With that said, he came back to the show a few years ago and the show didn't get much better. So I still don't have very high hopes for this movie. The thing that made the Simpsons great was its loving, hilarious-yet-almost-plausible depiction of a small town and all of its quirky inhabitants. It stopped doing that a long time ago and started sending the main characters on ludicrous adventures crammed full of celebrity cameos -- in a nutshell, situational humor rather than character-based humor. It became just another cartoon. There have been ups and downs in quality, but I think it's pretty clear to everyone that the series has never been as good as it was during seasons 3-6.
I would like to believe that a feature length film would allow the series' greatest contributors to sit down and really focus on their craft again, and create a legacy that can be used to put the series to bed. More likely it will be used as an excuse for a plotline that's even more outlandish than usual. I'm not looking forward to it.

Lawrence Fishburne InterviewI haven't read The Gospel According to Neo yet, but I've thumbed through it. (It sits on my shelf, and I'm currently involved in William Irwin's The Matrix and Philosophy -- great book!)
Switching gears... In an interview released today over at Coming Soon, Lawrence Fishburne gives a pretty detailed account of (some of) his experience with The Matrix and playing Morpheus.
What was it about the first film that struck the chord with so many people? There's a lot of things, and I think the major thing is that in crafting their story and structuring their story, the Wachowski brothers relied heavily on Greek mythology and primarily the old myths: the hero's journey, the reluctant messiah story, which is one of the oldest stories and has been with us in every culture, in every time in some way or form. And they basically put it in a modern context...
WARNING: The interview may spoil some minor plot details near the bottom -- the first six paragraphs are safe. When it gets to "Early audiences are already getting a different sense...", you might consider waiting a day or two to see the movie and then catch up on what he had to say about his character. -

Now for an on topic comment: haven't we had enough comic book hero movies for one life time? The answer seems to be no, as it was first Superman, then Batman, and now Spider-Man who have repeatedly broken box office records every time a new one is released.
Now the bad news: we all have to wait two years for the movie to develop. So why is it such big news now?
