Re:I hope treasure makes a sequel to Guardian Hero
They did. "Advance Guardian Heroes" came out last fall for the GBA, but was met with mediocre reviews. It's now pretty cheap; I actually got it a week ago and my experience thus far is that while the game has potential, it's held back by its bad translation and a b0rked save system, both of which magnify the issues it already has with a messed-up learning curve and sub-standard in-game training/tutorials.
Advance Guardian Heroes release last fall was over-shadowed by the similarly-timed North American release of another Treasure GBA brawler, Astro Boy: Omega Factor, which is frankly a far better game (that is to say, it is a very good game, and close enough in overall style and gameplay to act somewhat as a substitute). Knowledge of Astro Boy's various stories in animation and comics over the years may improve your appreciation of the game, but I can tell you from experience that it is not needed to enjoy it; the game stands on its own. (Although, for those who are curious about how the game's story relates to existing material, the game actually includes something of a small, gradually-unlocked encyclopedia on Astro Boy and related works also by the late Astro Boy creator Osamu Tezuka.) -
Just got banned for pointing people to Slashdot
Title says it all..
Got banned from the SWG forums for one single post directing people here to read the article.
Anyway, players are fighting back by posting reviews to sites such as EBgames and Amazon

Re:Debunking a few things
I just called my store and got a quote of $30 trade-in for Jade Empire on the XBox. I don't know if other regions have differing trade-in policies, but that's the first I've ever heard of it. Even the website advertises higher prices than that.

better check..
..those EB Games pre-orders.
This could be pretty bad for EB Games employees, because, at least in my hometown, there's never a GameStop shop that doesn't have a competing EB Games shop nearby. In fact, GS and EB are only two blocks away from each other in my neighborhood. I guess this means a lot of annoying, "I totally know more about the PSP than you do" people are gonna be broke and living with their parents soon. If they weren't already, anyway. -

If you want a 1-4 player version try this Champions of Norrath: Realms of EverQuest. My sister swears by it, though I have only played the real version.

What a neato hack.
I doubt the developer intended Wipeout to be used for this purpose but it's certainly going to cause a lot more copies of the game to be sold. EB is offering a trade in for 8 different 1st party brand games, one of which is Wipeout. (3 POed XBOX/PS2/GC games for one PSP game) I took advantage of the deal by buying a bunch of games at a local Gamerush for less then $10 each which combines with their buy two get one free deal. Unfortunately I ended up trading all mine in including Wipeout for other titles. It looks like I need to pick up another one. (Total price per PSP game = less then $20) If you go for the deal, make sure not to buy any games on EB's excluded list.... http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/ads/shops/instoretrade
i n/exclusions.asp
It's a bit annoying to find cheap titles not on the list, but I had good luck with Enter the Matrix, Conflict Desert Storm, and Manhunt. (PS2 $10) These seem to be fairly common at Gamerushes. -
Re:Too Fast?
...incidentally, what happened to the Emotion Engine?
It was just a MIPS processor, a faster version of what the N64 had.
By the way, Sony said the movie that the PS2 could render games in realtime like was Toy Story. I imagine they will say the PS3 can render.... The Incredibles, maybe? (Although we already know how "good" the PS2 can render The Incredibles already)
(On a side note, Nintendo is boasting their system will render games something like Cars...) -
Why wait? Buy now!Why not just stop by your local EB Games? They apparently already have it in store
Is pre-ordering a game really that necessary anymore? There was >1 million pre-orders for Halo 2 and I still saw plenty on the shelves when it shipped. I can even find copies of WoW in my area and have been able to since it was released as well.
-
Re:Even higher?
Um, EB?
Check out the New Releases section of their website. There's nothing over $40 on the list. Compared to console games that all start and end at $49.99 for new releases... Wal-Mart is usually $5 less than any EB price. (Again, Blizzard and LucasArts titles excluded) -
Re:FUD
The price of the PSP is ONLY $100 more
Are you Canadian? Because in USD, the DS is $150, and the PSP is $185. That's $35 more.
but the games cost $10 to $20 more than the DS games (depending on the DS game) and $20 to $30 more than GBA titles (depending on the GBA game).
Like hell. New GBA titles are $30-35, as are DS titles (click the tab at the top). New PSP titles are $39-49, which is $5-15 more.
The UMD movies are going to cost in between $20 and $30 dollars
Maybe you're psychic, since no movie prices have been announced; but based on the other "facts" you've listed, you're not a very good one.
SanDisk memory cards required to play music cost between $55 (256MB) and $150 (1GB)
256MB memory stick pro cards are under $40 on Amazon.
The cost of buying the PSP and everything needed to take advantage of the PSP's features is well over double the cost of the DS.
While the EB site is forcing you to get a "bundle", that's not the only place you can get them. I've got a PSP alone on order from an EB store for $20.
Assuming you don't want to just use pictochat or play the Prime demo, you'll want a full game; that'll be an extra $30, putting your DS at $180. Double that is $360, so we've got some money to play with... $185 for the unit, $40 for the memstick, $50 for a game. That's $275, which is definitely more than your DS bundle, but then again you've got an MP3/movie player in the bundle too. Definitely not double the price.
And you have an actual selection of games to pick from, not... Mario64 DS.

Re:Time splitters 3?If you have either an Xbox or Playstation 2, pick up a copy of Second Sight. It's a 3rd person action/stealth game developed by the Time Splitters team.
The game didn't do well in retail sales, but it just feels like Time Splitters, and you can't beat EBGames online price of only $15 of either version. They may even still be offering free next day delivery.
It might make the wait for Time Splitters 3 go a little faster.

Yes -- you were a cowboy time traveler, and Merlin was there. He used to keep telling me "Turn before you shoot!". Here's a PS2 version you can play at home with 3d glasses.

If you can't use a credit card/pay pal...
You can get a WoW time/game card... This is what I found so far:
Amazon = $26.99
EB = $29.99
Walmart = $29.82
Amazon has a photograph sample.
I am not sure if they are out yet in retail stores (e.g., Walmart and EB). Does anyone know? Also, are there any other stores selling them?
This game is addicting. :) -
Re:what took so long? Then those stores are gouging GC customers, probably because they have less GC customers to sell to. Simple as that.
Check any online retailer, or the prices on EBGames.com, and you'll see that the prices for the exact same games on the systems are normally the exact same prices.
For example, Viewtiful Joe 2 was released with a MSRP of $40, new, on the GC. The PS2 version gets released in a week or so, and so we'll have to see the price difference, if any. But if those stores are charging $45 (or more) for VJ2 new on the GC, then they're simply gouging their customers to make more profit. EB has a history of doing this (on all systems), especially when there is no direct competition in the immediate area-- if there is no direct competition in the area they generally raise the price on their games by $5 to make more profit.
Amazon.com lists VJ2 as $40 for both the GC and PS2. It also lists LotR: The Third Age as a mere 11 cent difference between the GC and other consoles (why, I don't know). EB Games lists the LotR: Third Age game as the exact same price on all consoles, and Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is also the exact same price on the PC and all consoles on EBGames.com.
My advice is to simply stop shopping at those stores unless absolutely necessary. I'm sure that there's a WalMart in the area (even if WalMart is an evil, evil company), or Target, or Toys R Us, or Best Buy, or something else that will be selling the games for their actual MSRP.

Game/Time Cards...
Don't forget you can get these if you don't want to pay online especially for young people who don't have credit cards or parents won't let them. Ask your friends, family members, etc. for them as Christmas and birthday gifts.
EB = $29.99
Walmart = $29.82
Are there any more U.S. stores that sell these that I didn't list? -
Vampire the masquerade Bloodlines
I am gonna burn some karma for this fantastic game that was released, that is getting little advertisement because of the HL2 god like shadow.
Ironically, the second game made by troika using the half life 2 engine is more interesting to me than half life 2. While valve created a fantastic game, they should have been keeping an eye this game to get pointers on having some truly rememberable moments and characters. VTM:B http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/235706.asp is one of the BEST RPG's I have ever played, and it is in first/third person perspective! Normally I don't try to pimp a game but this is special. If you liked the original deus ex then you definetly need to try this. Three words of caution, the game is very buggy, but if you can ignore the bugs you will definetely like this, also this is a MATURE game, there is no kiddy stuff here, so if you are squimish about mature matters then you might want to aboid this, and finally this is an RPG mostly, and not really a first person shooter, RPG players will love it but those hoping for a FPS will be disapointed. -

Best buy
EB games
Amazon.com
toysrus
Wal-mart.com
All out of stock... Lik-sang and circuit city neglected to put out of stock notices on their respective webpages, but I'm sure they are too ;)
(they had will ship when available notices still)
Also to note, cnet's shopper couldn't find an in-stock DS, Fry's Outpost.com doesn't even have a DS entry on it's site, and if you absolutely must have one shipped out the current high bid for one on e-bay is $207.50 Only a $50 premium ;) better hurry auction ends in an hour and there is only 1 other DS auction on e-bay right now (no, it's not my auction but hey, you can't buy these things anywhere so some e-bayer might as well make some quick dough ;) -

Wake me when the sequel to Katamari Damacy launches.

Yeah, and like ebgames.com they would never allow reviews before the game is even released.

Re:Preordering on amazon - apparently impossible
Here's what I preordered (put a down payment on, and will be called when it arrives in the shop):
Half-Life 2: Collector's Edition | EBgames.com
Here's why:
- DVD means no CD-swap-dance. Why are apps still shipped on CD when DVD burners and readers are so inexpensive and nearly all new systems come with at least a DVD reader? I figure this is worth $45-50 to me.
- When my ex-husband and I split up we divided things pretty fairly and he got some of the games and I got some of the others (he got furniture too because he needed it more than I did) and he got the original. So since this version includes a remake of the first game, which I can replay before starting HL2, it's worth an extra $15 or so just for that.
- I'm a science geek so a T-shirt with the symbol for half-life on it is definitely going into my T-shirt pile, and worth $20.
- Maybe I might eventually actually play Counter-Strike, although maybe not, I tend to like to play games solo or with small groups of friends, although that even only rarely.
- The book I will read part of (I try not to use walkthroughs unless I really am stuck) and I like concept art, 'how it was done' stories, and so on. Worth $5 or so for me.
So it more or less breaks out to be even and a decent deal for stuff I will mostly actually play, read, or wear. I have a lot of T-shirts as it is, but some of them are a bit on the small side or just aren't as neat, so as I get new shirts, older (smaller, shrunken, worn etc) ones wander down to the local Goodwill. (Besides, I work at a university and I'm sure a couple physics types will do a double-take at the shirt!) -
Trust The Internet, It Doesn't Lie
How about online proof? Numerous game outlets (including EBGames) had moved the game back to the end of November for release. This morning, a brief search of sites (including EBGames and Vivendi's online store have the game shipping on November 1st!

Re:Retro games on X-Box Live
Street Fighter II/III on the way.
Midway offers MK I, II, III and Killer Instinct as part of different retro packages for Xbox already, though not online. Based on the existing relationship, it should be only a matter of time until they are part of Arcade.
This looks like a really cool idea and implementation, but the price for each game is just too high. Maybe it will drop soon if interest is not high when it launches. -
FYI...
They make is almost sound like other stores won't be doing the same thing, which is not true. If you've ordered a copy of Halo 2 from EB, you can check this link to see if your store will be doing a midnight opening too, which it most likely is. Other stores like Gamestop will be doing the same thing.

Re:No jedi - I hope this is NOT true
There's about a half dozen games out _right now_, most of them in the bargain bin, where you can be a Jedi, all sticking (for the most part) to canon as approved by Lucasarts. Note there that I said Lucasarts, and not Lucas himself, since he would known canon if it shot him in the face. Ba dum bum. But anyway, there's a shitload of Jedi games out there. On EB Games I found three: Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II And that's just searching for 'Jedi' on ebgames.com. Yes, I'm one of those 'fanboys' that thinks Jedi have no place in SWG as it stands now, considering the timeframe. I'm sure they could rake money in hand over fist if they just took all the resources from SWG, hired a few dozen codemonkeies to redo some of the graphics, and released SWG:The Clone Wars, for those that must have Jedis.

Re:Gleee!!Now I can play the game while I watch the game.
Actually, you could for a while now, Madden '05 is out on the GBA.
-
An even better idea, original games for a change!
I can't believe someone is actually recommending a rerelease of an old title. Yeah, it's got the game 'n' watch's dual screens, but how bout some new games?
I'm getting pretty tired of Nintendo rereleases for the Gameboy. They've done the original Mario 1, 2, 3, Super Mario World, Yoshi's island, original Zelda, a slew of classic NES games like Balloon Fight, Ice Climbers, Excitebike (and more) etc.
They've just released a new pokemon, which is a remake of the original, which isn't even THAT old. The worse part is these games come out either full price, or at cheapest, $15, which is still way too much for a cartridge with just the old Excitebike on it.
I'd be one thing for them to release bundles, like a collection of original marios, a collection of NES. But no, all seperate.
I really like the GBA SP system, but I can't help but think they're milking the classics way too much, and wasting time that could be better spent on developing new titles. -
Re:It's about GAMESWell, for the price of a single copy of WinXP you can go buy a brand new GameCube, a used Playstation2, or a used XBox. And that's comparing to the cheapest copy of XP available, an OEM Home edition. If you want a retail Pro edition or a non upgrade or OEM home copy, you'd be able to add an extra controller and a game or two to that console system.
I used to be an anti-console kinda guy, and played all my games on PC, but I switched to Linux and got a GameCube, which I have liked quite a bit. Also, from what I can see, consoles are where games are going to be at in the future. As more publishers become fed up with PC game piracy, and increased cost of technical support and development that PC games bring due to variations in hardware, they will see the console as being a better deal.
If only some FPS game maker would sell their game with a mouse and a keyboard (even a small keypad size affair that I could custom map to my liking)...
Oh, I forgot to add in the saved costs of not needing a $150-200 video card, and whatever extra hardware a gaming rig would have over a internet/office suite/multimedia PC. There's another 4 games at least!

That would be pretty cool
That's a neat idea.
The thing is though Nintendo's already released several of the single-screen G&W thingies as GB/GBC/GBA games as the Game and Watch Gallery series. So releasing the dual-screen G&W games for the DS would be a very natural thing to do... -

Re:Release date and price
linky.
Seems suspicious though - everything else (all games and periperals) have a ship date of March 2005. I wonder if this has anything to do with the Japanese launch date (hardware will be available then for those willing to import, as the Gameboy hardware itself is the same worldwide - just no US localised titles available). -

Note that it does state: "The ship date and retail price have not been confirmed and therefore are subject to change. If the retail price is decreased you will receive the lower price."
