Re:If you don't like it don't buy it
Good idea. Don't forget to tell them why you didn't buy it.

Minesweeper is good against bosses...
But MegaMan is better.

Re:Some games can't be 3d
But they're still making 2d platformers!
New Super Mario Brothers for DS
Gish for PC
Mega Man 9 for WiiThey aren't as common as they were, but there are still some cracking 2d platformers out there. While some are sequels from the big studios, titles like Gish (it's cheap and on Steam) show that indie developers can still produce innovative mechanics in one of the oldest genres.

Re:Well-rounded?
Objection! Okay, perhaps I've been playing too much Ace Attorney games lately, but when someone makes such a bold claim, the only thing that counts is evidence. So where in the bible does it say that the solar system is a geocentric one?

crude but effective
"...the threat of zombies to enterprises and other organizations, as that method can't be blocked as easily as the previous technique."

Interesting
The interview reads like Phoenix Wright but with less murder. It truely is a shame that so many judges seem to lack the technical knowledge required in these cases, but the US must be thankful that they are not criminal cases just yet and remain civil (criminal=prison, civil=fines). France has some very media-related politicians and are normally at the forefront of oppressive european legislation (along with the UK). One of the French politicians is actually married to one of the main players in the music distribution industry which is just a bit of a conflict of interest in these sorts of cases.

Biggest insult of the whole thing
The biggest insult keeps getting overlooked by EVERYONE on this. Capcom has refused to patch the game.... that's a slap in the face. The kick in the teeth comes from the fact that the SAME DAY that they announced they have absolutely no intentions of supporting the game.... they're throwing another $3million at the advertising budget to market the game. As long as DR keeps going out the doors, they don't give a crap.
TV Ad Buys Doubled to $6 Million to Increase National Exposure for Acclaimed Zombie Game -
Re:And unless you have an HDTV, DR is unplayable.
You are not the only person to complain. Check out the posts at Capcom's web site. http://www.capcom.com/BBS/forumdisplay.php?s=&for
u mid=142 My advice is to not buy this game and rent it instead. If you really feel the need to purchase it, just wait a few weeks for all the people with SDTVs to return it. I'd guess it'll get down to $20 for a used copy at EB/Gamestop within a few weeks. Some people are talking about a patch, but I don't see how they can push one out. They'd have to have designed the game to be patched and that'd still leave anyone who doesn't have a hard drive out in the cold. The only real way to fix this is to re-release the game and offer a swap for people with the old version. That'd cost a lot of money, so I don't see it happening. -
Re:Objection!!!
Well done. You get a golf clap from me.
-
Re:Not all of those things...
Besides what innovative gameplay are you experiencing?
The other poster mentioned Trauma Center and Kirby. But that's not all!
The game where you're a lawyer and can literally yell objection.
Yoshi Touch and Go which requires heavy use of the stylus.
Meteos which would be a different game without a touch screen (the ability to "launch" blocks with the stylus is half the game).
The Pac Man game where the action is totally controlled by drawing.
Lost Magic the first RPG with immersive spell casting.
Trace Memory makes use of nearly every DS bit of functionality.
The Princess Peach game which has levels and a mini-game that require blowing into the mic. Sexual innuendo, a lot of DS games seem to require blowing.
The Bomberman game where, in multiplayer, you can set bombs or blow them up by yelling nonsense.
Of course Warioware which has tons of way to play with the stylus. -
Re:Benefits of 'Virtual Console'
it is entirely possible to make a 2D game with beautiful graphics.
It sure is. You also can make LOTS of money doing it, too.

Re:The biggest difference isIf they'd designed the GameCube a little differently, say with a DVD drive in it instead of their cutesy discs... If they'd not gunned for the kiddie games company role (which has always been a failing of Nintendo...)...
I always find it amusing when people slam the Gamecube because it's too kiddy. Invariably, people who make this claim don't own the console. Repeat after me: the Gamecube is not kiddy, despite repeated claims to the contrary.
Even if you're not looking at M-rated games, there are several excellent games that are enjoyable for all ages, including F-Zero GX, Mario Kart, Metroid Prime 1 & 2, Pikmin, and Viewtiful Joe. I'd also like to see a kid play Ikaruga for more than five minutes before moving on to something easier. Finally, the PS2 has games like Powerpuff Girls Relish Rampage, Monsters Inc., and Piglet's Little Game, while the XBox has such Triple-A titles as Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure, Tom and Jerry: The War of the Whiskers, and Fairly Odd Parents: Breakin' Da Rules. Does that mean that Microsoft and Sony were "gunning for the kiddie games company role" too? Cutesy graphics does not necessarily equal "kiddie games."

Re:Well...maybe
Grim Fandago
Oh, what a fabulous game.
if the games industry would make games worth playing
I agree. Now that the average gamer has the income to support the gaming habit, I don't think this "Gorilla" will hurt the industry.
In fact, I'm have been a VERY devoted FFXI fan since the US release. I have a 60+ character (much harder to level then WOW.) I maintained my account when WOW came out. I dealt with all of the server issues that WOW had at launch, but I stuck with it. I now have two max level characters (60 in WOW, but you can solo easily), but I'm bored. It is a very pretty game, but in the end it is shallow.
Sure, you can start new characters, try different allegiances. But I ended up going back to FFXI.
In the meantime, I've purchased EXCELLENT games such as Resident Evil 4, GTA:SA, Battlefield 2. All on different platforms, no monthly fee.
Afterall, I need a game to play while they perform maintenance. -

What, the Steelbattalion controller didn't meet your needs? http://www.capcom.com/newsletter/sb.jpg

Re:Huh?
Simulations that have more than 8 buttons worth of control.
... mechwarrior
You may want to look at Steel Battalion (XBox). I haven't been able to try it out, but it looks to be pretty much the ultimate mech game.
The controller has an eject button, and if you get shot down and fail to eject then you have to restart the game. Pretty hard core if you ask me. BTW the controller is probably the only that can compete with a Thrustmaster HOTAS setup in pure coolness. -

Re:Bah! Here's the real indicators of....
Will Nintendo pull it's proverbial head out of it's backside and develop games that aren't amied at 12 year olds
I wish people would stop beating the dead horse when it comes to Nintendo's console demographic.
Obviously someone hasn't played http://capcom.com/re4/Resident Evil 4. -
Re:As a tech-savvy Gamecube owner...

I reccomend STEEL BATTALION
Steel Battalion by capcom is an excellent game that would work well with a headmouse once you get the controller mapped out correctly.
-
Re:Control Freaks
Oh, and I forgot this, of course
:) -
Re:BaseBall games
Wow. So, quality is determined by complexity of controls or complexity of gameplay mechanics? I'd rather play a simple and fun arcade game that uses only one or two buttons than some complicated real-world simulator that uses every key on the computer keyboard.
People like you are the reason that FUN old school-style games are dying out in favor of something like this. -
Ah, but can you pilot it...
...via the Steel Battalion game controller?
-
Re:Odd
Nope. Viewtiful Joe (and VJ 2) is made by Capcom
-
Re:What happened.....
to the good old side scrolling games?
You mean games like Viewtiful Joe? They're still around. Plus there's a ton more 2D games on Gameboy if that's your interest. They also happen to have outstanding graphics, witness Castlevania Aria of Sorrow.
There's also many genres of games besides platformers and action games that are not affected by 3D: sports, racing, puzzles, RPG. Yes, I miss games emphasizing detailed enviornments and music rather than the novelty of navigating a 3D world with a 2D device, that's why I have a Gameboy along with GCN and PS2.
-
Re:What happened.....
Uh, 'Viewtiful Joe' is a modern sidescroller. It topped the charts here in the UK for a while, so they're still popular. 'Paper Mario' sounds like it might be basically a side scroller, too.
-
Pssss...Capcom.......
Abe also stated Capcom "isn't interested in developing more" Xbox titles, simply saying: "There are no plans... It's just not profitable enough."
Call me crazy, but maybe Capcom should try making xbox games for $50 instead of, you know, $200. -
Re:Like always...Well, then Nintendo should've run away with the winning title.
Or maybe it depends on more than just the best games... like actually bothering to advertise and get gamers' attentions in the places gamers go.
-
Not Mechwarrior
I think you're thinking of the 40-button monstrosity that is the Steel Battalion controller, which remains quite expensive even in resale.

Steel battalion
Make sure to get a copy of Steel Battalion or four, so you can hook 'em up on LAN when Steel Battalion: Line of Contact comes out.

Why?
Why must the media constantly downplay the gamecube? It is not exactly performing poorly and it is not for lack of good games. Is it because "edgy" titles such as GTA: Vice City and Manhunt are not released for it? Perhaps it is too "cute"?
-
Didnt play it but ..
saw some videos and seen it being played: Vietiful Joe Game itself is full of "special effects" and all the reviews are boasting how great the controls are. Damn i wish i had gamecube.

Re:The rest of the Final Fantasies up to 6
What you mean like Viewtiful Joe? (without the flash intro still a flash website though). This is seriously one of the most entertaining games I've ever played. Or maybe more like Super Smash Bros?

Henshin-a-go-go, baby!
What happened to side scrollers???
Viewtiful Joe happened to them - and all I can say is damn!
Score one for Capcom. Maybe they're trying to make amends for the Super Street Fighter Alpha II Championship Ex garbage they were pulling before.

Not likely, but it can be done
Repetitive suspense scenes, godawful voice acting, and plots with holes Nemesis could hopscotch through without ducking have leeched much of the suspense away I fear. As with many horror movies and games, the first will always be the best. The most potent fear is that of the unknown.
Not to say that it can't be done, but it's gonna take a restructuring of Craven-esque proportions to bring back the chills and screams to the series.
And don't get me started on Resident Dino, I don't have the strength. Something has survived.... and it wasn't gameplay, plot, or thrills.
-
Viewtiful Joe
I don't have a GameCube, but I was really tempted to get one when I saw the Viewtiful Joe teasers. Maybe that'll help sales. Or better yet for me, maybe Capcom will release the game on Playstation2...

Steel Battalion
Now only if they would put Steel Battalion into a table top...

Re:Can I buy ROMs?i remembered that a joystick came with some licensed Capcom ROMs, so i went searching.
it's the HotRod Joystick which you can see on that page. Hanaho owns the rights to the following Capcom ROMs and you get a copy of "Capcom Arcade Classics" if you buy their joystick. i have heard good things about the joystick but have not used one myself.
the games included are: 1941 - Block Block - Commando - Exed Exes - Ghouls'n Ghosts - Magic Sword - Mercs - Sections Z - Side Arms - Son Son - Street Fighter (Hyper Fighting) - Strider - U. N. Squadron - Varth
i don't know if they will sell the Arcade Classics separately, but you could always ask. if you really wanted to get into this as a hobby you would probably want a joystick like the HotRod anyway, but the cost is out of "impulse purchase" range. i did search google and froogle for "Capcom Arcade Classics" and could not find anyone selling it, although the google search turned up this forum page announcing a review of the games released for PocketPC, and you also get the desktop versions included. the actual review link, however, is broken.
so, i think this exists somewhere, but other than with a HotRod joystick I haven't been able to find out where you can get it. the only other thing i could find were CD-based console rereleases, for PS2/PS/Dreamcast, etc. Namco makes one (perhaps a few), for example.
ah, OK, even further searching turned up this page on capcom's site where you can buy individual arcade games for PocketPC (which I think based on the forum linked above should also work on PCs)
... but each game is $15, so it's not a great deal. but, the link is here.HTH.

Re:Capcom with the same old formula
Well, let's just see what the Capcom America main page has on it. Sure, there are remakes of Megaman and Resident Evil, but there's also Viewtiful Joe, Auto Modellista and PN03 on there, which are hardly unoriginal. Let them make remakes of popular games for people who want them, as long as they also make new innovative stuff too.

Ridge Racer VI?
Here is the only article (in Italian) I could find on Ridge Racer Next: Ridge Racer VI. It has a rare few pictures. The parent article above is better.
The only reason I mention Ridge Racer VI is that it was slated, originally, to be a cel-shaded cartoony RR game. I guess since Capcom did this first with Auto Modellista they have changed their plans? I got this impression researching the title two months ago, but now all the articles are pulled of the Web.
I think this RR might be a deviation from the Ridge Racer series into the "reality" department. Why? The RR series, though not realistic, was fun because it was so easy to get into, felt really fast, and had fun tracks. It is the model of arcade racing today. I heartily recommend Ridge Racer V to anyone who doesn't want to fine tune their car for hours just to shave off .73 seconds.
Auto Modellista has realistic, but extremely annoying power drift that makes the game not fun. I hope the assertion of realism with this new Ridge Racer is a good thing and not fishtail city. I also cross my fingers for the return to arcade racing with Ridge Racer VI down the road. -
P.N.03
What about P.N.03. Was there any mention of it? I've been waffling whether or not to buy a GameCube, but when this game comes out, I will probably buy it.

Re:Nonsense. Nobody has the Xbox to play games...
It's an oversized mess with lousy games and decent graphics
Two words: Steel Battalion.
Of course, if you think the XBox is oversized, you probably couldn't stand the custom controller =). -
Electronic Arts no longer artists...
I once read a very well respected Japanese developer said (I think it was Yuji Naka) [Some companies]"...make games at the desk." He was refering to game companies making games to make money, not to create something fun to play.
Electronic Arts is in the video game industry making sound business moves and producing disposable rubbish for an eager consumer base. They are no longer Electronic Artists and they no longer make great video games. This shows in the huge amount of crap they spew out each year.
Other companies were getting to be guilty of the same thing, but they seem to have realized it and are trying to make a turn for the better. Capcom, for instance, has pledged a shift towards quality and innovation, and shortly afterwards announced 6 new fairly unique looking titles.
3DO claims to be making a similar shift, and has cancelled many projects to focus on a few unique titles. Trip Hawkins even forked over his own personal money to help fund the company further along. How many CEOs do you know of who would do that? (Well, the President of Sega did that, too, then died shortly afterwards.)
Many of the more respectable publishers and developers are making this shift towards quality, but Electronic Arts openly clings to "tried and true" titles, even if it means saturating the market with crap.
I don't rant about it like I used to. I just stopped buying the shit. After all, there are other great video game developers out there. -
Or maybe
Maybe DC will get their act together, and then CowboyNeal can fufil his wildest dreams as the Green Lantern.
Or maybe Capcom will get around to producing the much wanted Marvel Vs DC game. -
Re:It's the games, stupid.I couldnt agree more. The reason I bought the PS2 back in October was that their selection of games on the PS one was simply outstanding. Each genre had its standout title:
- Sports: Madden
- RPG: Final Fantasy
- Driving Sim: Gran Turismo
- Fighting: Tekken
And now, we are in the midst of an ultimate gaming revolution with titles like Ico, Grand Theft Auto 3, NBA Street,Devil May Cry, and SSX Tricky available. PS2 games seem to be at their peak, but according to Playstation magazine, no one has harnessed the full power of the ps2 as of yet.
It was published this month (in playstation magazine) that Sony has introduced a resource usage program thingy which gauges how much of the ps2's power is being used. It was first thought that Gran Turismo 3 maxed out the ps2's power but this new tool from Sony only showed 25% of the ps2's power was being harnessed. Say what?!!? It was written that Sony will be providing this optimization tool to third party developers.
The best is yet to come people.
- Sports: Madden

"point and shoot"
"Point and shoot" seems vague to me. Does this mean galaga would be taboo, but games like street fighter are ok? The answer is that they will blacklist whatever THEY want.
-
Re:This is ironic...
Capcom has been very supportive of emulation. They allowed HanaHo Games to distribute a CD of roms for old Capcom games with their HotRod Joystick. I don't think Sega ever really did much to support emulation.
